The way I see it, as long as you keep your mind set on what you want, you can get it. If you want to be a video game developer and you put the time and effort in for it, hot damn, you'll be ready for the job when the opportunity arises. It's a hit-and-miss game for both video game development and writing: you either launch or crash. It's definitely better to have some experience beforehand, and that's what you're getting just learning about it.

The fact that you're already in communications with a game developing studio is good, because that helps forms connections for you to use in the future. I've made it a point to branch out and speak to three authors: Karen Traviss, Timothy Zahn and Duncan Prescott. Two of them are(or were, in Traviss' case) Star Wars book writers, and excellent authors. Traviss told me to stick to what I had, because just by speaking to me she could tell I had a lot of potential. Zahn wasn't as helpful, as he's so clocked with books that he's unable to work with me. Prescott, though, has been working extensively with me to get my books reviewed and hopefully sent to a publisher. We'll see what the future holds.

With kids, though, everything's so different. I look at it this way: you can only learn how to raise a family through experience. You can't read how to love someone; how to nurture them. It all comes from yourself. So I'll go with my English and Education degrees with my minor in Creative Writing, and hopefully establish myself as a teacher somewhere. Family is just another stone on the path.

Oh you have no idea. I want to be a teacher for my profession(I'd like to be an author, but I can't ride on the hope of becoming successful right off the bat.) However, I'm hoping to teach high schoolers, not grade schoolers, simply because I can't see myself being able to convey education to people not in their teenage years.

As for it being the last week, it is upsetting, but I'll just keep it in my head that I get to see them again next year.

Oh, just enjoying my weekend. I work at a local art program, basically babysitting 40-60 kids from Monday to Thursday, so Friday is my crash day. I'm sad, though, because this upcoming week is our last week, meaning I won't get to see these kids(who quite literally are the reason I bother waking up in the morning) for another year.

I figured many people would be in the same boat. It was announced on Twitter with little fanfare, when most of the people pestering RT about it were posting in Burnie's comments it seems.

Someone should make a news announcement.

Eh, nothing lately. I've been caught up with work, weddings, and vacations. Now, though, I got myself a functioning network switch, so I can return to my Xbox and play some Halo 3 with my friends.

First, I'm really sorry to hear that. I've never truly lost someone who was close to me forever, so I can't relate too well, but I do offer my prayers for you.

However, when it comes to coping, I might be able to help: Sometimes it's best to just think of the things you did with that person. The good, the bad, everything. Remember how you cherished those moments until you couldn't anymore. Remember why you were best friends. Remember that even though they're gone, they'll never be forgotten because they live on in you, and their family and other friends.

And always remember(though you may not be religious) that they're always watching out for you, from now on. Even when you think you're alone, they're with you, and never will leave your side.

Feel free to talk to me if you ever need someone to just talk to. I am, according to others, a very good listener.

You're an idiot. We follow staff member comments etc, so when someone comments on them (or Burnie's FAQ) we get little notifications. The reason it's annoying is because we get the notifications and then when we check the comments, we see the same thing repeatedly. So, especially when the question is pointless, poorly written, and makes very little sense, it's annoying. Notice that people agreed with me as well. So stop being a smartass n00b, especially when you don't understand what you're talking about.

I also find it amusing that you blocked me from commenting on your profile.

Here's the basic format (with spaces added):

      [ link=linkurl ][ img ] imageurl [ /img ][ /link ]

For example, to make your image a pic link, it should be like this:

      [ img ] images.roosterteeth.com/images/B514c0f35f49773et.jpg [ /img ]

If you want to link to
      [ link=http://www.ugo.com/the-goods/visit-blood-gulch-with-geoff-ramsey ] thislink [ /link ],
you add the image in place of 'thislink'

The final product should look like this (again, with spaces added):

      [ link=http://www.ugo.com/the-goods/visit-blood-gulch-with-geoff-ramsey ][ img ] images.roosterteeth.com/images/B514c0f35f49773et.jpg [ /img ][ /link ]

Removing the spaces, the final product should be a pic-link:

      B514c0f35f49773et.jpg

To grab a link for a pic, just right click on the pic, and copy 'image location' (or whatever Windows uses).

Oh yeah, Fallout 3 ranks up there in my top 10 favorite games of all time, easy. The 360 version is great because of Achievements, but I had the (mis?)fortune to play and beat the PC version first, and trying to go back and beat it on the 360 without all those mods is tough. I so badly wish I could get just a few mods onto the 360 version, to make it just that much better.

I got lucky with Borderlands, having several friends who enjoy the game also, and are willing to play it with me. It's very Diablo-esque, if you've played any of those games. There's a story there, but it's really all about the loot, and who can find the biggest, baddest weapon.

Totally the same here. I'd say over half my games are used, the rest bought new because I saved up. I also tend to only buy games brand new if I think they will occupy me a long time or if I can go back to them years later. Fallout 3 and Borderlands, for example. Others like skate or Mercenaries 2 looked fun, but I was right to buy them used, since I got bored of them after a while.

I think there actually is at least one Tactics game for the PSP. The FF series has been traditionally on Sony consoles, but the PSP was never as big as either the GBA or DS, so I guess Square Enix decided to branch out a bit in the handheld market.

Also, I'm the same way in games - I can never seem to finish a game before I'm distracted with something new and shiny. I'm trying to finish Borderlands, Red Dead Redemption, and just recently finished Mass Effect, which means I now have the second one hanging over me.

Hm, I never played the Fire Emblem series, unfortunately, but yeah, the battle system does look like that. As far as I know, none of the Tactics games are currently being planned for the 360. However, if you have a GBA or DS, there are Tactics games for both those systems.

The biggest thing is probably the battle system. They don't have everyone stand in a big line across from each other when you fight. Battles take the form of a large grid-like map, and you use a combination of ranged, physical, and magical attacks to take out the other team. Everything has a certain range, some you have to be up close for, some further away. Things like bows can have their reach extended by firing from high ground. Also, there is a twist added by bringing in the rule system. Most battles have one or more rules that you have to follow, or face the consequence. The rules can be nearly anything, from "No fire magic" to screwed up things like "No ranged attacks of any kind". When you have a magic character that knows nothing but ranged attacks, it can cripple your team to get the wrong rules. You can, however, change their chosen job pretty easily, and can train characters into getting new jobs but equipping them with the right combination of items.

It can get pretty complicated pretty quickly, hence being called "Tactics". It's really satisfying to master the system, though.

FF7 was the first time they stopped using the straight turn based style, and started using a sort of real time style. You get a meter that fills up and when it does you can attack, but enemies can also attack at any time, screwing up your attacks if you aren't fast enough. It's kind of complicated, but you get used to it.

The FF Tactics games, on the other hand, are straight turn based. Each character moves and attacks one at a time on the field, and who moves when and how often is determined by level and speed and such.

Well dude, my story basically kinda happens like this. In 2007 I ended up in the hospital with some life threatening problems, when I got out after three weeks and feeling like I have a new lease on life. I remembered a friend told me well playing my DS about child's play. I kinda just started getting involved anyway I could. I would say do some research and see what charities meet with your beliefs/choices/etc.. and start from there does that help a little?

You could always do some research to see if there is a charity like what you suggested in the Child's Play news post. As an organizer of that said news post...I would be happy to put a call out to some game studios to get you some stuff if you do find an organization.

First of all, I fucking loved Dead Space. The best sound in a video game ever. BioShock was sweet until I got to the fake ending, then it just got repetitive and old. Was gorgeous to look at, though. So I am a gamer but not hardcore, I just don't have enough time with all the writing and marketing I do. I'd love to write a Dead Space novel.

The book comes out June 22, but I'll be in NYC then. My tour doesn't hit San Francisco until June 30. Where you at? Maybe I'm coming to your area - click here for the tour list.

What I meant with Borderlands Books is you can pre-order from them, I sign all the books, then they ship them. So, even if you can't make the tour, you don't have to be in San Francisco on the 22nd to get that tasty, signed, first-edition copy.

My scintillating vocabulary prophetically punches donkeys of all superciliousness ... uh ... nevermind. No, I don't use big words.

Like you, I hate authors that try to make the book about how awesome & smart they are, and not about the story. I'm all story here, big fella.

Actually, if you pre-order from Borderlands Books, I do go down to the store and sign it. You can even ask me to sign it a specific way, or do what most of my fans do and just ask me to write in a general insult. We're a strange bunch.
