The original had Princess Leia standing off to the side bitching about letting Han's friends come over to work on the old broken landspeeder and that they weren't doing anything besides dancing and singing that stupid song.

This tiny gif is something I found trying to find a site I used to love that did action figure theater using Star Wars Figures. That site made me laugh so hard that I cried on more than on occasion.

I saw the site back when I worked for the Bell Atlantic Internet Solutions help desk, so it's part of my formative help desk years (probably 1997 or 98). It seems like the site is long gone, damn it, and I've gone through probably three hard drives since then that I never bothered to recover, so the best stuff I don't have any longer.

      Man, that shit was funny!

      Poor bastard
edit: You have GOT to read the whole thread and look for the link he put up to the photo he took with his cell phone. OMFG, that is the funniest thing I've seen in AGES. (direct link to guy's nutsack stuck in slats of chair) DO I REALLY NEED TO TELL YOU THAT PHOTO IS NSFW?

UPDATE!!! The poor bastard has managed to get his nutsack free of the grips of the evil slat chair.

So, on to Eric's current situation. Infection. This is gross, you were warned. smiley3.gif

He accidentally dropped his tray table on his incision. He said the bottom of it popped open and it looked like something out of House. Lots of blood and lots of gray pus. Yep. Gross.

This happened about 20 minutes after the surgeon came in to see him and all but said he was just trying to stay in the hospital longer (yeah, right) and that nothing was wrong with him. The guy didn't even come back after that happened to take a look and he was still on the floor.

They did hand a new antibiotic and left his pain control in place, even though Dr. Surgeon said that they were going to switch him over to pills. Oh, and he had to ask the nurses for dressing for the damn thing because it kept oozing pus all over his sheets and underwear.

      Nice. smiley7.gif

Well, Eric might have an infection. The surgeon who came to see him was concerned enough to order antibiotics for him, but not concerned to look or sound alarmed. Of course, then I get home an look up what they hung for him and it's Ancef - an antibiotic intended to be used in septicemia. I suppose that wouldn't be uncommon in bowel surgery. Heh. The Internet is a very bad place to look up information like that because all you'll ever do is scare yourself ;) Of course, then I read a little farther and find out it's commonly used in patients like Eric. Oh. Ok. Cool.

Other than that and a very low grade fever, his blood pressure was up almost to normal today. He's in a lot of pain even with the epidural and extra narcotics, but that is probably because he's up and around a whole lot more. His guts are still working and he hasn't had any problems with nausea, partly because he has a scopolamine patch, but it's more important that he doesn't puke than why he's not puking. Oh, and the toilet seat has left bruises on his butt. I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate me sharing that, but I find it really weird.

The potato soup my sister made was a huge hit. His nurses agreed that it was a correct and proper thing to feed him and they let me put enough for his lunch in their fridge.

As for me, I could not stay awake at work to save my life. I have no idea how many calls I dropped because of it, either. I even slept through my lunch hour and that didn't help.

That said, I'm going to bed now instead of at 2am. The dogs are guaranteed to wake me up at 7a to go out, but they should sleep through most of the night.

Updates when I get home tomorrow night.

Eric walked around five times today, his blood pressure is still low, but it's way up from yesterday and his surgeon is very happy with his progress. Eric will probably be home either Monday or Tuesday - YAY!!!

I went to lunch with my mom, Katy and Shelby today. We had a lot of fun, and then had more fun shopping. I got a couple of nice shirts, a box of band aids that look like duct tape, a Kong with spray can liver flavored crap for Tippy, a big pillow for Eric (and big pillow case), a book, and some other stuff that I'm too tired to remember at this particular moment. Tippy didn't appear to have torn up anything today, but the mini blinds at the back window are a total loss. They were already a little torn up, but now... well, they look like a dog has ruthlessly clawed and chewed on them. Imagine that.

My wonderful sister (that would be Katy) is making Eric some Baked Potato Soup since they're letting him eat stuff like cream of wheat and cream of mushroom soup. This may very well save his life because the food in this place is bad. Not regular hospital food bad, but really really bad. Eric knows hospital food. He's been in and out of them since he was 9. He figures, all tolled, that he's spent a full year of his life in the hospital. He knows hospital food (repeated for emphasis).

Tonight they brought him cheese soup that was completely inedible. It was BAD. Not only was it bad, but honestly, do you want to eat CHEESE soup if you've had surgery on your guts? He ended up telling them he had to have something else - and they brought him Cream of Wheat and Cream of Mushroom soup. The same thing he had for breakfast (CoW - heh) and lunch (CoMS). He enjoyed the CoW and made do with the CoMS - with the added salt and pepper I smuggled in for him. In addition to the really bad food, they consistently bring him tea and coffee, even though he hates both of them and has told them he hates them. They bring him Jello which just brings back horrible memories from when he was a kid in the hospital.

As it turns out, if you are on Diet A, you get what everyone else in the hospital on Diet A gets. There is no selection.

Hell, he stayed at another hospital in Austin and they essentially had room service until midnight. They had a fairly extensive menu for each of the diets and you could order what you wanted form three or four choices with decent side dishes and snacks. It was amazing.

In Kingwood, the hospital had such good food, that we'd get an extra tray for me while he was there and I'd eat dinner with him every night.

Even in Houston proper, the worst hospital he stayed in (Northwest Medical Center) had better food than Seton does.

Heh heh. The sad part is this time around he's had excellent care (last time he was in, it was abysmal), the nurses have been wonderful, his surgeon is awesome and the pain control people are simply amazing. The food, though, is enough to make you never want to go back. The cafeteria food is just as bad, by the way. Worst in any hospital he's been in.

All that bitching out of the way, go give SierraSunset some positive comments for being such an awesome sister (and a good cook, heh). She sure deserves it.

I'm off to bed to pass out. I have to be at work at 10a, but I'm going to try to get there early to see if I can pick up some time. I'm not burning all my damn vacation time (first I've had in five years) on this if I can afford it.

And you know what? I haven't even had time to play Oblivion at all.

      Right, off to bed.

Let it be known to all that Eric B. Donaldson is a Bad Motherfucker.

He was up an walking around some today. Considering that he's still got an epidural in his spine, is on three different painkillers (Fentanyl, hydromorphone and Oxycontin -and a numbing agent that numbs the nerves to his abdomen) and walking still hurt like hell. He couldn't even stand up straight.

The Bad Motherfucker part is that he got up three more times and walked farther each time KNOWING that it would hurt like a son of a bitch.

On the pain scale, Eric's general level of pain with Oxycontin is a 4/5.
      pain_asesss.jpg

He was rating his pain at rest, in bed, at a 5. They asked him after he'd been up walking and he said a 7 to 8. If it had been me, I'd have said fuck it and gone back to bed for the rest of the damn day. Knowing that something is going to hurt that much and doing it anyway? Damn.

So today's funny story comes courtesy of the Anesthesiologist. She came to move around Eric's epidural to get a little better coverage (it worked, by the way). Eric has a little birthmark on his back just above his waist line. While she was taping everything back up, I pointed to the mark and said, totally dead pan and entirely serious, "That's where they removed his tail."

She took a half step back and said, "Tail? What?" Eric said, "Oh great, thanks a lot!" She got the joke when I started laughing. Good for us that she has a highly developed sense of humor and laughed, too. She said that I totally got her and that she was looking for where his tail had been. She also said she was going to have to use that herself one day. smiley0.gif

Sometimes my sense of humor really surprises even me, heh heh.

    • Good news, everyone!

Actually, it *is* good. Eric's surgery went well. It was four hours instead of eight hours, so that was much better than expected. They only had to take out maybe three inches of intestine and they broke up all the adhesions where his guts were stuck to each other and other ooky things. So yay!!'

He'll probably be out of the hospital in four or five days. I'll probably need to stay home with him when he gets out for a couple of days to make sure he's ok. I'll probably manage not to kill him in those days :)

Bonus, Tippy didn't eat anything, but I think that was because my dad and my sister were good enough to come by and let the dogs out during the day.

quick edit... I'm going to go pass out. It was apparently much more stressful day than I thought. I've fallen asleep like three times in my chair trying to eat dinner :)

Well, next journal from me will be a short update on how Eric's surgery went. We're about to leave the house for the hospital. Surgery starts at 10:30am.

Eric's in a positive mood, not so much about the surgery but because he talked to his buddy this morning and has something new to look forward to after surgery. More story there than I have time to type out, actually.

      Talk to you later...

    • NOT a cup and plate theft simulator!

      bugdog

Woohoo!! The Elder Scrolls are back with a real winner this time. Oblivion just plain rocks. I haven't been able to play more than an hour and a half because Eric's been hogging the 360 (heh heh, I got a 360 finally!).

I enjoyed Morrowind and bought two PC copies, an Xbox copy and the one with Bloodmoon included, but oddly enough, I didn't like it nearly as much as I liked Daggerfall and Arena. I didn't like it that it was dark all the damn time and that the colors were so muted. I probably played a good 20 hours to see if I'd like it better, but I didn't. I felt bad that I didn't love the game as much as I'd loved Daggerfall and Arena, but I just couldn't seem to get into it. Someone somewhere said that Morrowind was the best cup and plate theft simulator on the market, and that was kind of how I felt about, too.

You see, Arena was the very first computer RPG I'd ever played. It was so amazingly cool, so much fun and so 'real' that I was totally hooked - even though I mostly watched Eric play and only got to play when he was asleep or at work. Daggerfall only made things worse - and it was the first time I had to seriously upgrade my PC to play a game - in fact, that was when we decided we needed two PC's, because I wanted to play and not just watch Eric play :)

Now... well, I'm sitting here watching him play Oblivion. He's getting away with this because he's going in for major surgery on the 12th. That's also why I decided to spend the money to get the 360 (not the base one either - that's just a rip off). Eric seriously needed something to keep from going nuts waiting and he'll need something when he gets back home. (hey, sis, don't tell Mom. The rent and all the bills are paid, got enough gas and food money, blah blah, but I don't want to hear it from her... heh...)

So, who wants to buy me a 60" HDTV?

    • A little concert weirdness

      bugdog

I forgot to mention this, but one of the strangest things I saw at the NIN concert was the proliferation of cell phone cameras. From where we were, it look like about every other person in the place had a cell camera and was using it.

I've never seen anything quite like it. You're at a live show, but you'd rather watch it on your tiny little cell phone screen? Sure, I get the occasional photo, but these people had their phones up and open for long amounts of time. It was bizarre to look down and see all the little squares of light... It probably wouldn't have been so strange to me if there hadn't been so damn many cell phones.

      People are weird.
