    • Poor little frog.

Well, for the second time in my life, I have killed a poor defenseless frog because I thought it was something else.

The first time I killed a frog, I was 17. I killed it with my truck. Ran it right over. I thought it was a rock and I had this thing where I liked to run over smallish rocks, lumps of dirt and plastic bottles. I knew it wasn't a rock when it went "pop". I felt bad for a week and I quit running over things with my truck.

Tonight was the second time I have killed a frog that I thought was something else. The dogs were poking at something over in the corner and Eric made me go see what it was (lazy bastard). Well, it was in a darkish corner on a dark brown bookshelf and it was scrambling around in a way very reminiscent of an injured roach. So, without checking to make sure, I grabbed the nearest walking staff and squished it.... only it wasn't a roach, it was a very small frog.

Now I feel really really bad. In all reality, I probably put it out of its misery after being dog chomped... poor fucking frog.

    • 100 Episodes?

      bugdog

      Holy crap. Who knew?

I ran across RvB some time just after the second or third episode, I think. It was April, I know that much. I think. Anyway, I had the original trailer and it was awesome. It made me go get the first episode. I lol'd and made my husband watch it.

I learned to convert the videos to some other format so I could watch them on my TV and not have the husband leaning over my shoulder watching them. I hung out in the forums, mostly being a smart ass. I bought t-shirts and wore them all over the place. I got to know DarkSchneider. I met Gus and Geoff once while standing in line to see RvB at the Alamo Drafthouse downtown (RIP). Eventually Gus asked if I wanted to be a mod and I said HELL YEAH!

I'm not as active in the forums as I once was, but I love the series and this place as much as ever. It's a total badge of geek honor to be a mod here and I admit, I judge how cool someone else is by whether or not they've heard of the site. (After all, how can I impress someone if they don't know about the site?)

So yeah, congrats Rooster Teeth on 100 excellent RvB episodes, a number of PSAs and many misc. other things that have made me laugh smiley12.gif

in Forums > The Rules | Follow this topic

      bugdog

The only real rules here are:
      1) No flaming
      2) No duplicate threads
      3) Don't mod down someone because you hate that book/author
      4) No NSFW images, ever.

      Some friendly suggestions:
      1) Use spell check, please!
      2) Use normal English when posting here. This is not a cell phone text message.
      3) PM me if there's a problem
      4) Any moderator on the site can help you, not just me. I do actually work a normal job and sometimes leave the house in my off time, so if you come to me for a non-emergency, don't freak out if it takes a few hours to get a reply.
      5) Of course, in an emergency (spammer, NSFW images, things of that nature) contact whichever mod is online.

The Rules used to contain a set of punishments for those breaking the rules. I've removed that list. Punishment will be fairly handed out depending on the severity of the offense. I'm not going to ban someone for creating a single duplicate thread, but if they create 12, then there's going to be trouble.

PM me if these rules are unclear or if you really think something needs to be added. You guys can discuss the rules here, I'm not locking this thread yet, but keep it on topic.

6/22/07 - I'll probably be cleaning up the forum this weekend, so don't panic if something disappears. I won't touch active threads, promise.

    • Best Ranger 2007

      bugdog

aka - The Military Channel Sucks.

So, yeah, the past several years we've watched the three hour coverage of the Best Ranger competition on The Military Channel. An hour for each day of events. I could have watched six hours, but hey, three was pretty good. This year it was ONE FUCKING HOUR. ONE HOUR!

I love watching the road march and cheering on that one guy with the fucked up knee/ankle/shoulder. I love cheering for that team lost in the woods/swamp during the night land nav. And I'll be damned if this year they didn't have a father/son team - I would have LOVED to see them followed a little more (oh, wait - followed AT ALL! Hell I didn't even know if they finished the road march or not - they did and came in like 16th).

You got less of an idea of what was going on than you do in the highlights of the day's baseball games.

You know, as much shit as they repeat OVER AND OVER on the Military Channel, you'd think have three fresh new hours of video to show would be a good thing. Cheap ass bastards.

They totally skipped parts of the competition, glossed over some new things and generally sucked monkey nuts with the coverage.

      Can you tell I'm pissed?

    • So, it's now 7:05pm

We had to be here at noon. They took him back for surgery around 2:30. He was out of surgery around 4ish. He was supposed to be in recovery for an hour, then get a room. Well, he got a room about 15 minutes ago, or so they say. I'm in the room, waiting for them to bring him up. No bed, so I'm guessing it's coming up with him?

They called a code purple in the ER earlier today. Depending on what you read, that could be a child abduction, a threatening person, or the ER is full up and they need to start pitching those who can go home OUT. I'm guessing it was the third.

We're not on the typical surgery floor, either. That's 4 (been there enough that I know, heh). We're on 5 which has "quiet hours" oddly enough. I thought hospitals were quiet zones all the time. Has there been some major shift in the last few years? Can I go tell people to shut the fuck up between 10pm-12am? Why isn't it a quiet time from 10pm to like 7am or something?

Hell, last time Eric was here (on the 4th floor) they were doing construction from 5am (no shit, 5am) until 7 or 8pm EVERY FUCKING DAY! It sounded like they were in the room with a fucking jackhammer pounding on the metal framework of the building. It was so loud that you couldn't hear the nurse, you couldn't hear the TV and you sure as hell couldn't rest.

I complained to patient services. They were good enough to come up to his room to survey the noise. It was so loud when they were there that they couldn't even talk to Eric because they could not hear each other.

Patient services brilliant solution? Ear plugs. Because, you know, communicating with the staff effectively is just not important in a hospital setting. We didn't get a fucking dime off the bill either.

I swear if I so much as hear a hammer in this place the next day, I will kill someone (on Eric's behalf, of course).

I am curious as to what floor this is supposed to be. It's not kids, there's not enough noise. I suspect it's old folks, but I'm not going around to look.

It's all of 10 minutes later now and still no Eric. WTF? Supposedly they were wheeling him up when I left from downstairs and I stopped to get a bottle of water.... If you are ever in Austin and have to go to the hospital, stay away from Seton on 38th. Seriously. If this wasn't the only place his surgeon worked, we wouldn't have come back.

    • Also good to know

      bugdog

Although this hospital is run by some sort of religious order, they either don't have a web filter or don't know the sites I know...

Come on! You know I had to check! They used to have NUNS as nurses here not that many years ago!

    • let's see....

      bugdog

      Ok, count with me...
5 bowel resections, 2 vasectomies (first one - bad reaction to silk sutures), one gallbladder removed, two incisional hernia repairs... um, gee, it almost doesn't look so bad when it's put like that!
Anyway, Eric had another incisional hernia repair done today. That would be the second one done. It was just under the first and like 8 years after the first was done. They cut that part open about a year ago, actually. I talked with the surgeon and he said they had to open about an inch more than they planned because when he was making room for the mesh to lay flat, he swept part of the small bowel loose where there was an adhesion and it sort of put a hole in it. So he has like an extra four staples. Yay.
In spite of that, he was very positive. Eric, on the other hand, will be extraordinarily pissed because nothing ever goes like planned. I could write an entire journal for every one of those surgeries listed above and how it didn't go as planned. Clearly the vasectomy didn't go as planned, because who the hell wants that done again? (I must admit, I was impressed when Eric removed his own staples. Talk about hard core!)
So anyway, I'm not looking forward to telling him that part when he wakes up. He's still in recovery right now. I don't plan on saying anything until much later tonight other than it went fine because I know from previous experience that he won't remember. It's much easier to keep saying "It went fine" than to continually explain what actually happened. Heh. Watch this be the only time he remembers...
So I'll actually probably be on here most of tonight. The have free high speed wireless in the hospital (fucking finally!). I'd have been on here earlier today if I could have found a working power outlet anywhere in the waiting room that hadn't been monopolized by someone actually trying to do WORK! The nerve of some people! My battery had died from Farking for two hours and there they were, hogging all the outlets doing WORK. Some people!

    • Yay for new cars!

      bugdog

So Eric's headed back to Austin. We're moving at the end of the month and will be selling a lot of his RPG collection between now and then, so he says. That should be interesting. I'm not looking forward to the move itself, or the fact that I won't have a fenced yard for the dogs, but the neighborhood is pretty good (for a mobile home community) and the dogs will love going for walks... and it's like 300 less a month so I can afford my new car. Yay, new car!

Anyway, if the weather lets up, we're going to Scarborough Faire on Monday. I get to drive my shiny new Mustang a long long way! Heh heh, I'll probably let Eric drive because frankly, it's easier if he drives. This way I don't have to kill him for saying, "Get out from behind this car." and "Slow down." and "Why are you in this lane." and "Can I drive?" every five miles.

Here's a sign that your new job is teh kewl.

Tonight after work, we went to Dave and Busters. The company paid for food, games ($30) and gave each of us two drink tickets.

Free beer! At a company event! All prior jobs have been so gun shy about booze that if it was a company event, you could have NO alcohol.

So yeah, I had two beers paid for by my place of employment. How cool is that?

So yeah, it's not a GT because it would have been way too tempting to go really really really fast. It's the bright red one, no spoiler, tan interior and it's a stick shift. I'm coming down off an all day NEW CAR high right now. I'm really tired and it's a really cool car :)

I'm going to go pass out for a while...
