So like if you see The Real Bugdog playing Gears of War on Live 360, that's probably not actually me. Eric's found out that he can actually enjoy talking to other people while playing a game - something he SWORE he'd never EVER get into, ahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!

I knew that with the right game (and playing really late at night when most of the younger set is in bed) that he'd enjoy it and he is.

So if you see him on there, listen for me yelling RELOAD RELOAD GODDAMMIT!!!! in the background.

The hardest part was getting the bats in my hair.

This is the first and possibly only photo of me you will ever see on RvB. I much prefer the way you guys think I look than the way I do, but I had to share. I let DSchneider help pick which photo to use. There is a slim chance I might have some better ones tomorrow, depending on how my makeup looks today.

Ok, I give up. Here's the link to all five photos. You pick your favorite :)

No better photos today because before I got around to taking photos, I screwed up my hair totally with some sort of glow in the dark gel that made my hair look totally nasty in the light, but completely cool in total dark. Sometimes you just can't win.

Well, on Monday morning, we had to take Mouse to the vet and have her put to sleep. She's been doing poorly since we got back from vacation and the last few days, she'd quit eating and pretty much quit caring about anything at all.

Mouse didn't even take any notice of riding in the car. I felt horrible, of course, but the poor girl was in bad shape. Mouse was almost 16. She had about the best life a dog could ask for, and she was the best dog a person could want.

She'd bark at me when I'd cry and claw at me until I forgot about what was bugging me.

It's been a couple of days now, so the sharp edge of grief has worn off, but I'm still looking for her all over the place. I still look for Bug sometimes, though, so I expected this.

Anyway, still down to just a laptop and I haven't felt like getting online in the last week or so. Hell, I've hardly been out of bed for the last two days. I'm going back to work tomorrow, having switched my days off... but I don't want to go. I just want to sit at home and be unhappy for a while longer.

But, hey, Mouse had a great life and it was time. I'm glad we had her company for nearly 16 years.

      man, I wish I drank.

Ok, I\'m accessing this through an \"illegal\" proxy site from work because both our PC\'s at home are down and I don\'t feel like spending the money to fix either of them (in otherwords, don\'t have the money). I\'m not gone, I\'ll be back when I get a PC working...

BUT - here is a link to all the photos I took, good and bad. I used Picasa 2 to upload them to the new goole/picasa web album because it offers enough space and it worked from work (again with the web blocking stuff)

      picasaweb.google.com/bugdog

cut and paste because the proxy doesn\'t let me use the tags and I\'m too lazy to write the simple code.... plus I don\'t want to get busted for being here.

I\'d appreciate any feedback you guys have on the photos. I know some are out of focus, but I did a mass upload rather than weeding out anything. I also haven\'t done any \"fixing\" on them, so the color might not be what it should be. Again with the dead computer excuses...

meh. I have about 10 minutes before I go to bed, so I thought I'd steal the laptop and say hi.

I have great pictures of our trip (and some not so great) that I hope to be putting up soonish. I'm not in a great writing mood because Eric just did his whole "living here is killing me... no money ... tried to get you to "step up to the plate" and get a better job ..." thing and it's pissed me off (again). Uh, I'd love to have a better paying job, but there aren't any. Oh, wait, I could have gotten a level 2 job where I work now (pays more) but he didn't want me to work the extra hours involved or be on call. Funny how that happens.

Gah. Fun fun. He's on the move to Indiana kick again.

Anyway, photos coming soon. I'm going to bed. Got to work tomorrow, you know, because it's all about the money.

We're in Ashton. They appear to have a motel and a burger joint/c-store/gas station and nice views.

Eric and I both slept all day yesterday. Went to sleep around 11p the night before, I got up to walk Tippy in the AM and beg for a later check out, went back to bed, then got up to pay for another day. Walked Tippy again and dragged in about 100lbs of bags from the truck so we'd have all our clothes and pillows and misc. comfort things. I think I was a burro in a previous life.

So once I did that, and we had a brief conversation about how bored we'd be and how I'd end up doing laundry later and we'd play a couple of the card games we brought, we both passed out. And suddenly it was 8pm. We dragged our lazy asses out of bed long enough to go to the burger joint. Came back to the motel and watched a couple hours of the 10th Kingdom (I brought a few DVD's with me just in case), then passed out AGAIN until 10am.

Right. So today we are headed for Moab. This has been a weird trip for Eric because he is remembering trips he took as a kid with his Dad that he had completly forgotten. The only reason he knew he'd been some of these places were photos he'd seen of himself there. It has to suck to have that sort of memory lapse at his age - bad prednisone stuff.

      anyway, got to go.

    • Somewhere in Idaho

      bugdog

Well, we're at some place in Idaho that costs way too much. Eric needed a camping break :)

We've been to Dodge City, The Royal Gorge, Little Bighorn Battlefield, (also the Washita memorial site our first night on the road), Little Bighorn National Forest (where we camped in the rain last night), drove up Beartooth Pass (holy hell, it was high - over 10,000 ft), visited Yellowstone - I saw 2 moose, three elk, a million bison, several chipmonks, a big eared deer and a coyote (and some HUGE ravens).

the park was surprisingly crowded, so we drove out after seeing Old Faithful... and here we are in Idaho. Nice motel, used to be a Super 8, if the phones are anything to go by.

We're headed down to Moab (so Eric says) and then back to Colorado and Grand Mesa. It was raining when we were in colorado the first time, so we decided to drive north and get out of the damned rain.

Photos, a better journal and spellchecking to come later - i'll be back in Austin on Friday because I have to be back at work on Saturday.

I've seen amazing things on this trip and I'm looking forward to writing about it. :)

    • Who's your flat daddy?

      bugdog

Life sized 2-D likeness of Guard members used to ease separation pain

Um, I'm so torn between hysterical laughter of the funny kind and hysterical laughter of the really sad kind.

I honestly can't decide if this would be a great idea or something that would totally scar children. I mean, seriously, if I had a life size 2-D stand-up of my husband in the house when I knew he was gone, I'd probably have accidentally shot it (assuming that Tippy didn't chew it to shreds first).

I guess I can get the idea that it's a good thing for the kids, but isn't it just a little alarming that the 3 year old mentioned continues to hold conversations with his "flat daddy" even though his Dad is back home? How long do you let that go on?

What if, gods above forbid, his father had died? How long do you let that child go on talking to his Dad's avatar?

I dunno. This is either brilliant or so totally creepy that I just can't get my head around it.

(oh, yes, the part where one guy's wife took hers to her gynecologist's appointment... well, that's just weird. At least the flat one couldn't crack embarrassing/annoying/stupid jokes on the drive over.)

Another link - same topic, different article.

I love this photo. I'd have a fucking heart attack if I got in my car and there were someone in my backseat like this*.

      1156918134_2399.jpg

In the end, I guess if it actually helps people, even if it just helps them keep their sense of humor (like the woman who took hers to confession), and if it actually helps kids instead of seriously fucking them up mentally, then it's a good thing.

Ooo, hey, Booyaa Lefty and Firedrayke, I just had the best fucking idea!!!! (heh, you know I love you guys, so don't kill me...)

*reminds me of a Jesus of the Week story - a woman had a Jesus head with a sucker on the back that she had stuck to her rear view mirror in her car. She said she had to take it down because of the number of times that she thought Jesus was a mugger in her back seat.

seems like ever since I started working a 10 hour shift (yay for 3 days off, but boo on getting up at 7am), I don't even want to look at my computer when I get home. So what the hell have I been doing?

Reading - I've read all the Dresden Files books by Jim Butcher, all of Kim Harrison's books.
Watching - Eureka, Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis. Especially enjoying watching the Sharpe series on BBC America. If you have any interest in what war was like for the Brits during the time of Napoleon, pick it up. Awesome awesome show. And Sean Bean is hotter than hot fuck. Seriously. Hot.

I've also been minorly nursing multiple crushes on fake people. House (who is a regular bastard, but has really awesome eyes), Carson (the doctor on Atlantis, also has awesome eyes), Sharpe (er, I think I mentioned him), and ... uh... Huh, the Sheriff guy on Eureka. Sheriff... uh... hot guy. Yeah. Did I mention I've been reading a lot? Mostly while watching TV.
Playing - Champions of Everquest; Return to Norrath on the PS2 and still playing Oblivion on the 360.

We haven't gone on vacation yet. The current plan is to leave on September 7th. Yay!

Eric is having bad days with a few good days thrown in. The dogs are crazy as usual.

I dunno. The whole 10 hour shift is kicking my ass I think. If it were 10 hours at a job that I either loved or didn't have to do anything besides sit in one place and NOT answer the damn phone, I imagine it would be better. Or if I didn't have to get up at 7am every day. I so hate that.

      but I'm gonna spill.

I worked 63 hours a week ago so I could take a UNIX Fundamentals class. I learned all sorts of neat crap and got 23 hours of overtime. I also happen to have a full 40 hours of vacation time.

Eric and I are taking a vacation. The only plan we have is that we're going to Colorado. I want to see mountains, damn it. I've got 10 full days off (since I work a 4-10 week, I get that extra day) and overtime and vacation pay, so we're outta here for a week.

It won't be until the middle of September, but we're going. There is a very good chance that we will go from Colorado up to Yellowstone, over to see Devil's Tower and Mt. Rushmore... but we might just stay in Colorado. No hard, fast plans. Our expenses will be gas, food and park fees because we're either sleeping in the car or in a tent :) I have some small hope that gas will drop after Labor Day.

This is not the way I usually travel. I usually have everything planned almost to the hour. It's sort of freaking me out, but we both need this trip. Eric is feeling good enough that he's having at least as many good days as bad days, and that's a huge deal.

I also got a new camera. It's a Canon A-520 (4mp 4x optical zoom) and I'm seriously looking forward to the photos I'll be able to take with it. I've already dicked around with it and it does macro like a mad thing and the flash has a good 20-30 ft range. I don't know half of what it does, but it has full manual controls. I'll be reading the manual this week, I think :) It's not super duper top of the line, but it's 1mp more than my last camera. YAY!!!

My kind and wonderful sister is going to watch the dogs for us. They're what I'm most worried about, actually. I *know* they'll be fine and my sister will take care of them, but I'm still going to worry.

Work is going well. My old manager is on a project so our group has been assigned to a totally different manager who KNOWS WHAT SHE'S DOING! OMG! She's not one of those people who over compensates for whatever it is that last guy was overcompensating for. She listens to you when you talk to her. She works with you - she's the reason I got to take that UNIX class instead of just being told no.

She knows about my situation with Eric's health and has actually said that I can work a few hours of overtime when I need to - compared to our last guy who would freak if you had 15 minutes of OT, this is a huge policy change. I hope we get to keep her and that our guy stays on his project forever.

So that's what's been going on. I've been working a lot, Eric keeps taking my PC and I've been sleeping whenever I can. Oh, and I've been reading a ton of books. I highly recommend the Harry Dresden series by Jim Butler. Go get them all - go on!

I should be in bed and asleep - I've been getting up and out of the house by 7am and that pretty much sucks. I love having 3 days off a week, but damn, getting in early is freaking hard.

Right, talk at you guys later. I'm going to try to get back into the swing of things here as soon as I get my brain back in order, too.

Hello, long time no talk. Hope things are going well, and that you can work out crating your dog. Hopefully, she will get better behaved. I know it sucks having to drag my dog into his bed, cause he hates it and makes me damn near choke him on the way in. But, it's for his own good.

Anyway, I was just wondering, based on all those threads you have made that I don't have access to, what goes on in the MOD forum? Is it some really interesting, inspiring stuff, seeing that there isn't the mindless drivel that gets poured into 20+? Just curious......Well, take it easy.

I finally saw Serenity. Now I'm pissed cause I didn't get to see it in the theaters. smiley5.gif If it owned like that on my TV, I think about how a THX, Dolby Digital projection movie theatre would have made it look and feel. Especially near the end with the Ion Cloud. Dayum!

For those of you who haven't seen Serenity yet....Don't wait, don't even stop to think about it, just rent it. It's that good.

The user numa on the most modded list has been passing off poets work as his own in his journal, I noticed and provided proof and he's now deleted all the journals.
