To officially announce myself as Matt J. Kriebs, R.N., B.S.N.!! Found out I passed my boards. After some set backs and trying times (failing boards by the slightest margin possible the first time), I have passed with flying colors.

One of the most momentous occasions of my life.

Felt like it's been longer since an update. Not a whole lot going on in terms of my Japan trip, but this past week I had a few milestones in my career.

The first and largest accomplishment is winning the best student research presentation at the local Nurse's Expo. This is the same Alzheimer's Nursing Research that I am taking with me to Japan. I honestly thought the research was marginal, at best, compared to some of the other student research that was done, but apparently the judges didn't agree with me! Really a major morale boost for the last couple weeks of the semester.

Next, I presented my research on Quiet Time in the hospital to a Nursing Quality Practice Care Council at a local hospital. I had no idea the magnitude of this presentation when I walked into it, turns out the NQPCC is composed of nurse managers and hospital executives. Apparently, this presentation went well also, which is pleasing to me.

Finally, this week we took a board exam predictor, which lets us know our chance of passing our NCLEX board exam on the first try. Since I was hurrying from one of my presentations to the test, I was not in the right frame of mind for test taking and still got a 90% chance of passing on the first attempt. I'll take it! By the time I graduate, I am expected to have a 97% or greater on that same exam... should be cake now that I know what to study.

Anywho, here are some pics from Nurse's Expo...

Me and my award for best research presentation:

And my group and I with our professor that facilitated the research, in front of our professor's award winning research, which she is taking to Japan as well! This is the prof I am going to Japan with and the other student going with is on the left:

Just got news that I will be housed for one night in a bed and breakfast in the UNESCO World Heritage site in the Toyama prefecture, Japan. For those, like me, who are wondering what a UNESCO World Heritage site is, my brief research shows it is something that is set aside by a world committee for it's particular cultural or natural importance to the common heritage of humanity. UNESCO considers the preservation of such sites to be in the interest of the international community.

The UNESCO site that I am going to is recognized for its cultural importance signified by the unique architectural style known as gassh0-zukuri. The Gassho-zukuri, "prayer-hands construction" style is characterized by a thatched and steeply slanting roof resembling two hands joined in prayer. The design is exceptionally strong and, in combination with the unique properties of the thatching, allow the houses to withstand and shed the weight of the region's heavy snowfalls in winter.

This is a very unique opportunity funded by my research. It really feels great to know my research is getting my places in life, gaining experience for me, and really just opening my eyes to cultures that I know nothing about. Keep in mind this is all being paid for by a professor at a college in which I get to present my research.

Here are some pictures of what I will get to see:

      Of something good?

I've got my first date in about 3 years tonight. Hopefully it goes well. My over-analytical brain says things should go well and she's a good match for me, but I have been wrong a number of times before. We'll see. Hitting up the microbrew for dinner, then a bar with some friends after, should be a good time.

In may, I will be blessed with the opportunity to go to Japan for 17 days. I am going with 3 professors from my college (one who is native Japanese, thankfully!). I will be going to experience the Japanese medical culture and to present some research I have been doing on nursing care for dementia sufferers. Hopefully I get to do some sight seeing too, but regardless, I think this is a unique opportunity.

I leave the day after my graduation and I will be flying into Tokyo, then flying southwest to Kumamoto. I will be in Kumamoto about 14 days, then I will be going to Toyama for a couple days for some seminars that my professors are doing.

All in all this is extremely exciting. It's the first time I will be in a foreign country (aside from Toronto, Canada... which doesn't really count), and it will be immediately after I graduate. This will also stack my resume like nothing else I could do! Wish I could have more time to tour Tokyo, but this is alright.

      So yeah, that's exciting.

That's what we're here for. Going through a little pain and frustration in the short term pays off in the long term when you know that you willingly did what was right even though it hurt. It will likely spare you from a lot of potential heartache, build a healthy sense of pride, and strengthen you to be able to do so again in the future.

Ill have to see if I've got any cars with m50/m52 engines in them tomorrow at work. Definitely NOT the Vanos though. Oil pressure sender port, maybe on the oil filter housing. My head is full of s54 shit right now, I can't remember. On the s54 you move the oil pressure sender to an unused plugged port on the oil filter housing, and put the turbo oil pressure line where the factory pressure sender was. Also since the turbo shaft was below the oil level in the pan, it uses a scavenge pump to pull the oil out of the turbo so it doesn't smoke.

Yes, the m3 has been running well. There is alot less room on an e36! Another swap i've recently learned about for the bmws is the 2jz. I actually have an 03 M5 coming this week with a 2jz already in it, 800bhp. Its on youtube if you search for 2jzM5, its the light silver one. Built by some shop in new jersey. (Ewww!) Not sure if im gonna like it!

It wouldn't be an issue if I had it mounted in the center of the windshield, but keeping it tucked over by the pillar is causing the problem. I may move the whole assembly over, but I like having the phone right there in easy reach.

What sort of mount are you planning to build into the console of the truck? My iPod lays flat for concealment, but when I build a proper version of my mount I think I'll make it so I can lock the iPod at a 45* angle to reduce glare and such. all it would need is a slot for the cord to travel through in the bottom, and a snug cup-style mount sunken into one end.

    • IA3471

Ah, yeah, I have my iPod built in to the console and wired into the head unit, never really use my phone for music. GPS, however... I wired in power for it a couple of weekends ago so I can use it without draining the power, but the mount is still giving me grief. the suction cup screws down relly well, but the curvature of the windshield near the sides plus the angle of it makes orientation a pain.

    • IA3471

Yeah, the Incredible has an 8mp with the 2led flash, but I've started getting into photography again (yet another expensive hobby... far too many of those...), so my d3100 and other kit goes with me most places. Helps having the work excuse, too. What kind of car mount do you have for the X? Mine is still giving me grief with the angle of the windshield.

    • IA3471

Ah, I have the HTC Incredible. I love being able to upload to PhotoBucket and facebook and emailing pics in just a quick card switch. The camera on the phone isn't shabby, but I take my camera bag with me most places anyway. I keep my fix-it kits in it, and a first aid kit too, for minor stuff that may happen during setup and whatnot.

      Stupid mobile posting

Yeah maybe a gene is a marker known or unknown. Also possibly it's rate of incidence and all that.

Small sample but also specific bc again as you said it's highly prevalent amongst yas.

    • SorvatS

Yeah I agree with that. Also that there needs to be new proper legislation dealing with genetics. Like you can't copywrite DNA which may be in anyone.

But I was thinking more broadly in that you said your fam has it a lot specifically. Maybe from a sample of all your DNAs they can find a specific marker gene or reinforce what is a marker gene for CD.

Also just bc you have a gene you won't always have it's effects.

Would be interesting to take your whole fams DNA those with and without cd just to see if maybe a gene(s) which may kr

As IBD's go it's case by case basis, I hope it all works for you.

I would look into working with your doc(s) to take like a family wide DNA test to see for any marker gene's. Could help a study or wtvr, maybe someday down the line. Since as you say you guy's have it so much.

Yeah hope you feel better and don't have any chronic illness.

Think you meant UC as both UC and CD are both labeled as IBD's.

Well the original settlement is just a monthly check from the company you settled with. There are a lot of companies that will "buy" it at face value and give you a check, then the company you settled with sends the checks to the company that bought it. Idk if they're even up there because Jordan said he'd never seen commercials for those or pay day loans before he moved down here.
