Hey Burnie, I was watching the latest RT Podcast and overheard you mention lightweight trailers that aren't a part of current culture anymore. It made me think of Scamp trailers: https://www.scamptrailers.com/

My family and I have found a few of these for sale in the outskirts of Texas, and I have to say, if you are looking for an awesome family bonding project/investment, these things are so much fun to customize and take on vacations. You can easily pull it with a V6 engine or less and they are a blast for weekend getaways.

      For The AMA:

What are the biggest misconceptions about the behind the scenes of Rooster Teeth as a company?

    • The.Grand.Poobah

      For the AMA:

Based on how large the company has gotten, and how many areas of entertainment Rooster Teeth now covers, Is there a job or task at the company that you no longer do, but miss doing? Things like machinima work, writing, merch. design, etc

For the AMA: How have you dealt with being the boss when your employees and team are some of your closest friends? When a friend falls behind on a work deadline, or you have to negatively critique something they've done, how've you dealt with it? With so many people looking to embark on creative careers with their friends, what are some pros and cons that you've found along the way, Best of luck post blog mate

TLDR version: You're awesome, keep being you. I'm trying, keep moving forward.

So, a new year is coming and I plan on making it a new one. It's a scary time to try and do what I want to do with my career and amateur company between this whole Net Neutrality debate and the Ad-Pocalyspe on YouTube. It really is scary to have a dream since you were a child, one that you recently have made so many sacrifices for but still have the odds ever stacked against you and it's ever changing. But it's hard to build something solid with just sticks.

I don't have a reliable staff or crew, I have no noteworthy skill with computers, I barely have any real experience or formal education besides what I experienced in school and what I have taught myself. It's a process, one that gets both harder and easier to try and shoulder over time. I've been writing tens of thousands of words on different projects, lore, history, and things of that nature almost by myself, or managing the few that signed up to help and just waiting for them to contribute. I can't make them do anything until I can pay, nor do I have the right to try until then. I can't pay much of anything right now, so I can only rely on myself. I have plenty of doubts, plenty of reasons to stop, and plenty of reasons of just giving up and trying to live my life with no real goal or dream. That's not living to me, that's just existing.

With that being said, I know that this is a hard thing. But, I will give it my all, as I have done all year, as I will do. Keep Moving Forward may had been Monty's words, but the mindset has always been there before I ever watched RWBY or really anything Rooster Teeth related. But I can say it's been people like you, Monty, and Jessica Nigri, which is ironic because I do not cosplay or have the intent to do so, that inspired me to not just let things be a 'in the future', or 'one day' when I could try and make them happen.

The latest Vlog episode -'Inspiration', to date this post-, and the Vlog itself showed me why you're one of my personal biggest role models and I always try and remember the advice you give in whatever you're in whenever I'm trying to produce a story or series idea or how I deal with it not working out.

So, thanks for being inspiring is what I am getting at, I'll miss the Vlogs, but I will still watch whatever this company makes in support from one dreamer to another, even if it doesn't appeal to me as much as something else.

Hey Burnie a while back you mentioned that you didn't understand the Kekistan thing ... this this an explanation of it from Carl Benjamin, one of if not the creator(s) of the "movement" ... Hey Burnie,

I'm a massively long time fan, with a couple of questions.

Firstly, how are you able to make time for video games with all of the company things you deal with?

Secondly, what is the RT video you are most proud of? I love going back through old RvB vids, it gives me nostalgia like you wouldn't believe! But what video/s are you most proud of RT for producing?

    • DCMaloney

      Hey Burnie,

Longtime fan from up north here- I know you're probably busy as hell, but if you get a chance at some point, my production team just finished its first short film and if you have the time, I'd really appreciate any feedback you could give us. I think your more honed comedic sensibilities could be a big help in giving us a sense of what works & what doesn't in the film. Runtime is 11min (fair warning), but it plugs along at a good pace.

Have a great day man, hope to hear from ya.

I don't know where else to post this, sorry.

Can you try and get rid of the new banner ads that pop up at the bottom of the screen? If you want us to use the RT site than please don't make the site even more annoying to use. I already cancelled my First membership because of the constant problems and annoyances with the site/ app. I try and watch as much Rooster Teeth content on YouTube as possible which defeats the purpose of having a First membership.

A really long time ago on a podcast you and Gus were talking about a customer support line that starting trying to sell Gus something when he was already annoyed and irate (I think it was Sirius support). I feel like this is similar. We've been complaining about problems with the RT site for years (slow loading, the video player, lack of HTTPS, terrible search, so on) but we just get more annoying ads and limited improvements to the site.

I would love to renew my membership to first if the site worked better and was less annoying.

      Hey Burnie,

Wanted to leave a comment about podcast 445 a few days ago but I hadn't verified my email yet after creating my new account. Side note: used to have one then kind of fell out of the rooster teeth orbit for like 4 years. But now I'm back and frankly very much liking the more thoughtful viewpoints I see and consideration for other peoples lived experiences. When I originally left I fell rather put out; I'm a trans woman and many of your jokes in content back around 2013 were hurtful and felt aimed at marginalized populations. That has changed for a large part now, though not entirely.

To paraphrase my deleted comment: I love the consideration given (around the hour mark) about the current issues wrt trans people and how the current administration is working against our rights and progress that has been made through the blood sweat and tears of some of the most vulnerable members of society - Black Trans Women. I want to agree that drag and trans-ness are not the same but also not mutually exclusive.

As for a question that popped up at the 1:10 mark or so, I wanted to give some perspective. I'm white so I'll keep my commentary about race to a relative minimum because my opinion won't be very nuanced or informed. As for LGBT rights, I have more experience to speak from. I believe that the reason that social movements and their victories in recent years haven't had much momentum or engendered sweeping change of policies and viewpoints is that fundamentally the changes that were made were helpful but superficial. That is not to downplay the tremendous effects of legalizing gay marriage and repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell had on the LGBT community. Unfortunately, for trans and nonbinary people, that progress didn't change the basic danger in our lives of discrimination and violence. What those two victories in specific did was to allow people to assimilate into an oppressive structure and society without examining or changing that structure. I don't think it's right to lay blame for that focus so I won't; many people have priorities for many reasons and I don't want to talk your ear off about all that argument lol. However, I did want to add that because it felt like a question made in good faith and I wanted to meet you there and encourage the changes you have made and further change to happen.

I'm a newly back on the bandwagon fan, and seeing your progress through the years about being more socially aware is really re-invigorating my passion for your content. I hope you have a great day!

PS. If you'd like to get in contact about anything I said here feel free! I'd love to talk to you further <3

Cancelled membership:  Hi Burnie...just can't support giving you guys $ anymore.  The constant Trump bashing is  getting just too frequent (just finished your 2 man podcast with Gavin) and you have NO dissenting opinions anywhere in your company.  While there are many salient talking points involving this administration, you, like so many members of Hollywood offer no alternative thoughts that do not meet your narrative, I have not even heard them discussed by any member of RT.  50% of this country voted for him, and we are getting so weary of the demonization and myopic viewpoints that offer no other alternative.

Get rid of the Thor's hammer I gave you at RTX, I don't think you or Gavin are worthy of it anymore.

Hey Burnie, I'm doubtful this will reach you, but I have to try. I'm part of a podcast called the Fandom Flux Podcast. Our 'leader', Casey, started up a show with a fellow cast member Zero, introducing him to the show of RWBY. It's called Zero Interest, a name we all giggled at like children and patted ourselves on the back for. This is done by them watching the episode, and then having a discussion about the show's themes, characters, tones, etc. The show is set up like a VLOG, with both Casey and Zero being recorded in a face-cam style, their discussion broken up by bits and pieces of relevant parts from the episode they happen to be talking about.

The reason I'm writing this comment, is because one of our episodes was recently hit with a take down notice. We naturally appealed under fair use, our show is all about using the show of RWBY as a vehicle to share our opinions of your company's work, we are absolutely not re-uploading full episodes or stealing your hard work. Unfortunately, that appeal was flat out denied with no reason as to why.

We aren't a huge group, but we love what we do and we have a few dozen fans that we wouldn't trade for anything in the world. Please, if you have a few minutes, can you look into the matter, or get someone to give even a cursory glance at our work so you know we're not thieves, just fans.

I've been looking into the whole "How many senses are there, really" question.

Some of it you're right about, where under certain definitions they can all be sub-divisions of the sense of touch, but neuro-scientists have started to re-define touch and separate the individual somatic sensations and define them individually such as pressure, heat and pain. This is mostly because there are conditions in which people can feel one, or more but not the other, (someone who can feel pressure and cold, but not pain)  so that means that they are independent of each other.

They have also now included what they call interoceptive senses into the definition. These are senses that are internal in your body and don't necessarily rely on external stimuli, such as balance (the sense of your body's alignment), proprioception (the spacial awareness of your extremities) and organic sense (i.e hunger, thirst, nausea).

Proprioception is actually very interesting in and of itself. Reduction of your sense of proprioception is the reason for the walk the line and finger to nose sobriety tests. Complete loss of proprioception is the cause of what most people describe as an "out of body" experience.

The bottom line is that most scientists agree that there are at least nine senses, but there are arguments for as many as 21.  It's all in how you define things and scientists currently disagree on this issue, just like back when they were debating what defines a planet. R.I.P. Pluto

      Hey Burnie,

A few months ago in the podcast you mentioned a viral video that I've been looking for for a really long time. The 'Kitty is a Very Bad Mystic' video. I don't know how, but it seems to be one of the very few pieces of media that has truly completely disappeared from the internet. I've opened a challenge on /r/GoForGold in hopes of finding it. When I do, I'll shoot you a link, if you're still interested in seeing it.

Yo Burnie, a while ago on the podcast you talked about how when you were a kid your family went to Asheville in North Carolina and that you want to go back one day. It's genuinely only gotten better, so you should definitely take a trip out this way someday!

When is the schedule trailer happening?

  • Questions answered by burnie

I know this question is older but I have been using a drone in lots of the vlogs.

About 3-5 times a week, depending on if I travel that week.

Exceed definitely. Outlast is a different animal. Fifteen+ seasons is very, very rare territory in any medium.

Going to answer this with a quote from a fitness magazine. I think it's a great way to look at motivation, which is not something you can control:

"Fuck motivation. it’s a fickle and and unreliable little dickfuck and isn’t worth your time.

Better to cultivate discipline than to rely on motivation. force yourself to do things. force yourself to get up out of bed and practice. Force yourself to work. Motivation is fleeting and it’s easy to rely on because it requires no concentrated effort to get. Motivation comes to you, and you don’t have to chase after it.

Discipline is reliable, motivation is fleeting. The question isn’t how to keep yourself motivated. It’s how to train yourself to work without it."

Thanks, Gus. Just keep pluggin' away. You'll get there.

I'm usually racing to hit my calorie move goal by the end of the day. I don't drink really. So I basically just browse the web. The say you aren't meant to look at screens right before falling asleep but I do it a lot.

Nah. Part of the Q&A sessions at live events are about the interaction. I know people outside the events will often criticize the question askers, but it's not their job to be entertaining. That's our responsibility. If questions get too bland, we'll just talk for 15 minutes before taking the next one.

The only thing I hate is the fake "oh is it my turn?" "is that what my voice sounds like?" performance garbage that some people do. I have warned audiences many times that once you get to that mic you are part of the show. I have no problem blasting you in front of 5000 people the same way I do to Gavin or Joel or Gus. It's how we show love. Basically, if you do something to slow down the energy in the room we will quickly move to get it back.

Ashley's cat Nutmeg loves me, but she wakes me up every single day and yells at me. We get in an argument every morning. Somehow, Ash sleeps through it.

The single hardest I have ever laughed was when I interviewed Kara for the What Do You Know show about guy movies. Her Back To The Future answers were so funny and when she said which way the car travels through time, I lost it. I literally could not stop laughing for ten minutes. They cut all of that out because my host character is meant to be supportive and deadpan, but that was just too much for me.

Nope. Vines are hard. I have lots of respect for Vine artists.

This might sound rude, but I've been trying to find a way to say this for a long time: I never open the flash drives people hand me. It's not that I don't like to review people's work, it's that I don't trust a flash drive I don't know in any of my computers. It's far better to have an online repository and just send that to me in a link. Sorry.

I also don't eat baked goods that people give us at conventions. But I do appreciate them. And Blaine eats it all.

Games is our fastest growing division. Follow Michael Hadwin on the site and/or Twitter.

Sure, I will be the guy talking about Tharsis non-stop and not knowing what The Witness is.

Walking Dead, Jessica Jones, Mr Robot

I have been working through a huge backlog of movies as well. Just watched John Wick. It was great.

Sure. Reviews don't scare me. I think I said this on a podcast after our festival run, but it's inevitable to get some bad reviews. People are brutal when talking about movies. A videogame can have parts that are broken or missing on day one and still get a 9/10. Movies don't get that same pass. I am just very happy the audience likes it. It may seem like a forgone conclusion that the RT audience would like it, but that's not at all the case. There's been plenty of shows our existing audience hated. If that had happened with Lazer Team, we would have had a big problem on our hands.

We have tested cooking in a couple of different formats. I think the people who enjoy cooking most don't really have time to pilot a new show that far off the beaten path.

Pancake podcast is this week and I am super excited.

Just keep using the site and posting awesome stuff. I saw that Awesome On Its Own was making a return and that made me very happy.

Actor -- narrative shorts and our featured productions like LT and Crunch Time

Director -- not really directing much these days, but as a Producer I will say Immersion

Writer -- Featured Productions and developing new series

Sure. We moved in the middle of last year so we had to change our setup, but I can tell her you would like to start again. I'm a little reluctant to admit that I don't play that many games anymore. In the last six months I have played FO4, some Just Cause 3 and a smattering of smaller Steam games. It's one the reasons I'm not ever on The Patch. I don't have much to talk about.

Last few years I have focused on work in front of the camera rather than behind. 2016 will put me back in the Director's chair.

    Boobs or butts?

    | Asked by: WildLemon 3 years ago

Thankfully, I don't have to choose.

Probably the Carribean for vacation and Australia for just general travel. Once, I went down to New Zealand and rode the train from Christchurch to Greymouth. It was an amazing journey. If you go, eat the whitebait.

It depends on the job. If you mean a personality/artist job then there is no requirement. A lot of our personalities never went to university. Some didn't even graduate high school.

How old is Joe the cat now?

    | Asked by: Paul_Lee 3 years ago

Joe The Cat is about eight years old. He's getting super fat in retirement.

Matt was telling me that the box office numbers in UK were higher than in US even though it has 1/5 the population. My response was "RTUK?", he punched me.

I would love to have the US show be a traveling show the way MineCon does. But I know how radically inefficient that model is. Hopefully we can do more touring-style events like the LT screenings, Let's Play Live and Dude Soup Live.

I wish I had a better answer than "I know it when I see it" but that's really the main answer. Also, our writers have to be fast. It's just the nature of what we do.

All better. Stitches out and just stretching it every day.

There's nothing you can do about it. Some things are constant on the internet. You can't ever say what the weather is like where you are, because people will just tell you why it's worse where they are. You also can't mention an event without people being upset that you aren't coming to where they live. No one sees all the other responses and obvious jokes when they are making their single post.

I could not be happier. Watching fans all over the world have mini-meetups was absolutely mind blowing.

Ashley, depending on how nice Ashley is to me that day.
