    • Vlog Automation

      burnie

A number of people have asked me about the automation in my house. I think a lot of people beliece I live in some kind of unobtainable future house but 95% of what you saw was installed by me and purchased off Amazon. In fact, the most expensive individual piece of tech (besides my car) is the Roomba, which isn’t an outlandish piece of tech.

The whole purpose of that section of the Vlog was to show that really futuristic seeming tech is available right now. And some things that are really useful automated tools like programmable coffee makers and garage door openers have been around for decades.

I’ll try to go shot by shot here and break it down.

      In bed

      Amazon Echo $39-115

      Spotify account $10/month

      Kitchen

      Lutron Caseta light switch $55

Cuisinart Coffee Maker w/ timer— $70

      Roomba 960 — $650

      Living Room

      9 Phillips Hue Bulbs — $540*

Logitech Harmony Remote Hub — $300

      Library

Phillips Hue Lamp bulb — $25

Phillips Hue bulb (Joe The Cat Painting) — $40

      Bookshelf

      Caseta light switch — $55

      Nest Thermostat — $230

      Bathroom

My Smart Blind motors — $99 each

      Echo Dot — $39

      Garage

      2015 Tesla P85D — a lot

      Using the Summon feature

Controlled via third party app which communicates with Alexa

Hamilton Garage Door Opener — est $250 (came with the house)

*I really dislike Hue bulbs and wish I had never bought them. That room was the first I did and I quickly switched to the Caseta light switches after that. Could have done that room for 1/10 the cost and it’s a far more reliable solution.

So besides the car (and the blinds which are cool to see but not really worth the time and money) you could replicate that whole set up for about the cost of a mid-level gaming PC and a weekend of work. It’s not cheap, but also not an impossible leap to have a “house of the future”

    • Introducing RTX Ambassadors

      burnie

One of the best parts about working at Rooster Teeth is interacting with the community and finding people that are doing amazing work on the Internet. In fact one of our brightest stars in the community just hit 10 million subscribers on YouTube. I think that kid is going places.

So, I am proud to announce that we are launching a new experimental program to make some of our talented hard-working members of the community a bigger part of our RTX events. This year we will be introducing RTX Ambassadors, people from the community who will be the faces and hosts of  RTX. We’re launching this in Sydney, so we’re still in the process of figuring out exactly how all this will work, but you can expect to see the ambassadors introducing panels, interviewing people from Rooster Teeth and generally being the online guides of RTX.

Our first ever RTX ambassadors will be the crew from Boneyard Arcade -- a lovable group of miscreants gamers based out of Sydney. We’re really excited to be working with Dan, Lucky, Chloe and Josh. We have met them at several events over the years and everyone here has fallen in love with them. We think you will too. If you’re not familiar with their work, please check out their channel Boneyard Arcade and follow them on all the appropriate following places.

      nTyDsCi.jpg

After this trial run at RTX Sydney, we plan on opening up the selection process to the community as a whole. We will have more for information about that in the future. If you're interested in being an upcoming RTX ambassador: stay tuned.

And be sure to let the Boneyard Crew know what you’d like to see at RTX Sydney if you’re not attending. I’m sure they’d love the input on what to spotlight.

    • The Final Vlog

      burnie

As I write this, the last vlog is in processing and preparing to post to the Rooster Teeth site. It was A rare treat for me to work on the last video in the series, knowing that it was the end. An odd side effect of all your ongoing support is that not many of our shows come to a conclusion. So, it was a new and enjoyable experience to plan the end of a series.

This final vlog is a little different and I think you will see how pretty quickly. I had this idea for something called a “quiet vlog” and this seemed like a great chance to make it. Since the series started with the Monday vlog, I felt it was appropriate to end with the Friday vlog. This time, we follow just one person through their day. I could easily see us doing it a few more times with different people, if people like the format.

I hope that’s the case. Thanks for supporting me for a year on this project. See you on the next one.

      burnie

If you bought a Burnie RT Store gift for someone else for Christmas before Dec 16th and it didn't get there in time, I want to try to help make things right for you.

If you bought a merch product that has my name on it (which are: the Burnie hat, the Burnie sticker, the Burnie bobblehead or the Be Nice Work Hard shirt) as a gift for someone and it did not arrive in time to give to them for the holiday, I will personally call them and wish them a Merry Christmas and apologize for messing up your gift to them. I won't be able to talk very long as I expect to be making a few calls but I feel it's the least I can do.

If this applies to you, just use this Google Form I have set up to get me all the relevant information.

Played a couple of rounds of PUBG last night. It's a pretty steep learning curve going from PC to console. The inventory system seems like they did their absolute best put there's no way they can make it as quick as it is on PC. However, I do like that you can attach/equip items straight from the ground with one button. That's pretty convenient and would be cool to have on PC.

    • Vlog coming to an end

      burnie

if you watch today’s vlog then you know that I announced in this video that I will soon be ending my weekly vlog. It’s been a tremendous amount of fun making the vlog for all of you every week. But it’s time to move on to new project and I really need to focus on that. Like I said in the video, I don’t know what the future of the vlog is – –  it could move to Ellie, or some other people at the company or it could just end all together.

I’ll be wrapping up over the next few weeks, so if there’s anything you would like to see an upcoming episode please let me know the comments. Thanks for watching, it’s been a really fun adventurous year.

We all need to get better as fans of things. On last week's podcast, I said I liked Justice League, but I guess I didn't like ENOUGH for some people. I've been getting blasted on social media for daring to criticize the portrayal of Superman in the movie. I was actually way more critical of the Flash, but OK.

Plus it's always oddly disappointing to get blasted by someone who has a cartoon avatar. I make cartoons as part of my living, but when someone is just furious on the internet and they choose to represent themselves with a picture of a cartoon character -- it's really hard to take it seriously.

    • Holiday Gift Guide

      burnie

Among the exciting hires we have made recently is a gentleman named Eric Vespe, who is a longtime friend and for years was the primary editorial voice behind one of the worlds oldest entertainment sites.

One of the things that Eric is known for is his extensive Holiday Gift Guide for people who love movies, comics and video games. I’ve mentioned the guide many times on social media (especially when he was kind enough to include RvB boxsets). I’m proud to say that Eric’s 2017 gift guide will be debuting on RT this week.

I also think it’s important to disclose that the Guide has always been supported by retail affiliate links. This is not something we have widely implemented previously at RT but I think it’s important for us to find seamless ways to support new content that don’t impact the community. Nonetheless it’s important that we be transparent when trying these things.

Basically the way it works is that if you click on a link from the guide it will take yiu to the product’s site and if you were to buy anything during that visit, Rooster Teeth is paid a fee. This does not affect the price of the item nor does it influence the products Eric chooses to highlight. Proceeds from the Guide will be used to fund new productions and hopefully hire new people at The Know.

We will also include a disclosure at the bottom of each installment of the Gift Guide.

Hope that you’ll support Eric’s incredible amount of work that he puts into finding some really amazing gift ideas for the geeks in your life.

      Burnie,

I just wanted to say thanks for all the laughs you given me. I started with RvB when i was 12 and I have grown up watching the series until today. No matter what has happened in life RT and RvB have been the constant source of smiles for me and it would not have been possible if you hadn't had the guts to try and make a show in a video game. Thank you for being awesome, can't wait to see what you have coming up soon. I will miss church but I look forward to any new charter you decide to bring life to.

      Thanks

      Varun Shah (bfett9)

PS. I don't know what I said that made you block me on Twitter, but I am sorry! :P

Also will you ever post the original death of church recording you made back in the day? Even as BluRay/DvD bonus?

      Dear Burnie,

I have made a discovery. If you watch the end of Return of the King, during Aragorn's Coronation, you can see a guard making a funny face and a humping jester behind Arwen. He is on the right hand side in the background when they reveal her. Thought it was funny. Check it out.

      Burnie,

As I was finishing the last few minutes of Red Vs Blue Season 13, all I could think about was how much life, you gave to the show in your impeccable acting and creativity and the incredible way you could touch the hearts of so many people. Thank you so much for everything you did for RvB and showing the path it had potential for (especially from season 6 onwards) because I grew up with the show and its a beautiful and very very sad thing for me to see a whole Generation... a whole story being closed for good, but knowing that you handed off your baby, your creation to people who can care for it as much as we all did, gives me the largest amount of respect for you. To me, Church/Alpha/Epsilon will always be my favourite character and the best character ever... of all time!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart,

      Andrew

      Burnie,

Thank you so much for breathing life into one of my favorite characters. Church was an inspiring character and had a huge impact on my life. Your writing of Church during the Recollections and the Project Freelancer Saga was beautiful, and as Church continued his development under Miles' influence, your performance continued to excel. As Church became a more complicated character, your skills, not only as a writer, but as a VA, grew exponentially. The pure, raw emotion in your voice when Church went to spend his life away in a memory, when he forgot, when he met the Director again, and when he deconstructed himself bring tears to my eyes every time. You taught me that we can't spend our whole life chasing a memory, that our past doesn't define us, and that, in the end, all we can do is have faith that we made a difference.

      Thank you

      Michael

When you first started, how did you have enough motivation to continue? Granted, you were probably one of the first ones to do it and it just caught on. It was an instant spark. But with everyone fighting for a view or a sub or what have you nowadays, should you just quit or keep making 100 things even though it won't necessarily go anywhere?

I saw this earlier this week and thought you would appreciate the clever idea and intricate detail of it. This production company called Realm Pictures connected with people on Chatroulette with a live FPS where they would give orders to the protagonist in this zombie world. It's pretty awesome and I thought it may be a cool thing to talk about on the podcast or something.

Figure here was as good as any. Thank you for talking about Uber. I am a driver for Uber and every time you all talk about it on the podcast it helps me with my service. Most of what you all talk about I don't do anyway, but it still helps. I've been a driver in Salt Lake City, UT for about 5 months and it's been great and horrendous at the same time. I have had 5 different rides puke inside of my car; 3 on the outside; I've broken 4 different fights in the car that got out of hand (couples fight in my car all the time); and I've even had someone try to jack my car as a rider. On the other hand, I usually have a bottle of water waiting in all of the doors for every rider. I keep my car ridiculously clean and as fresh smelling as I can make it. And I usually don't talk to the rider unless it seems like they want to talk, or they talk talk first. I do stand-up comedy, so sometimes I try some of my material just to get the rider laughing and having fun. Regardless, I still love driving for them. I'm sorry that you and others have had some pretty messed up experiences and hopefully it gets better. Maybe someday I can give you guys a ride when you or somebody comes down.

By the way, I've only listened to part of the RT Podcast as of right now. As a driver, we get a general phone number for every rider that forwards to your cell. We never have your real number. I would assume that you as a rider get the same for us. Didn't know if you guys found the answer, but there it is.

Worked night shift, two young girls sitting on a bench for 3 hours, so come around lunch I asked what was wrong, they needed a ride home. So I spent my lunch going across town with two 16 year old girls. I got a little scared when the cops called me asking me about the girls. I told them and I gave them a ride home and showed them the place I dropped them off. Turns out their parents drop them off got drunk and forgot about them. Even though doing a good deal, I was still scared since I was a 22 year old guy.

Yesterday I was on my way to work and I stopped off at the gas station to get some gum. As I was walking in, I held the door open for the guy behind me. After looking at gum for about 30 seconds he came up to me and asked for money. He told me the only reason he came up to me was because I held the door open for him and I seemed like a nice guy. I gave him a dollar and told him it was all the cash I had. He kept telling me to go to the ATM to get more money out to give to him.

It reminded me of the story you told on the podcast about helping those guys push their car. You're right about what you said. No good deed, no matter how small, goes unpunished.

      Mr. Burns,

I know you have a very busy schedule, so I'll try to keep this as brief as I can.

I was watching podcast #333, and heard of the story about the two men who rudely unappreciated the help you gave them on the road. The very next day, I was delivering a four inch wide and twenty-foot long piece of cast iron pipe, which I can assure you is rather heavy. A man in a truck drove up and offered to help, which I gladly accepted. After setting the piece where it was needed, I made sure to shake the man's hand and thanked him again for his help. I've always tried to thank one for going out of their way to help whenever I'm in a pickle, but at that point I was thinking, "I kinda wished Burnie was here right now."

Hope your week is treating you and the RT crew well.

      Burnie, or Mr. Burns,
Listening to RT Podcast #329 I'd like to say that as a sponsor I appreciate all that you do for us. I am not among the group that thinks you don't do enough for sponsors. In fact given my limited time around work I can't keep up with all the videos and etc I have access to!

I understand that dealing with the people who want something for nothing and that speak out of turn when they just want to be that complaining internet voice*in greatest internet voice impersonation* "gosh, why don't you do more for sponsors? geez it's like you don't care..." is part of the job, but in the end it's not fair to you guys who work so hard to make us happy. Don't Listen to them sir. You guys are so awesome and those of us who can understand what's what appreciate all that you do.

Burnie, as a sponsor I prefer to watch all RT videos through the site. However, I find that I watch more videos on YouTube because it has the "watch later" function. It helps to manage what videos I've seen and which I have not. I almost feel guilty for not watching the videos on the RT site because the RT business model is so oriented around the site. Would it be possible to implement a playlist feature to the new site to make viewing the content easier?

I'm sorry Burnie but there's a very simple reason why no one else knows about Robotron: You're old and they're all young smiley0.gif .

Hey Burnie, I'm pretty certain you get quite the volume of messages so heres to hoping this gets through, but I have a game suggestion! I'm probably going to mention to add it to the patch game club but I know I'd like you specifically to try it if you haven't already. The game is called Antichamber and it's akin to portal as a great puzzler however it's a game that just makes you happy to play it with a relaxing tone and great philosophy. It's on steam for I believe 20$, oh and if you choose to look more up about it i advise NOT looking at any videos and just reviews because the puzzles twist reality and how you expect things to work so the videos may give some of it away. Well hope I get through to you and hope if you do try it out, you enjoy it. Antichamber is quite the experience ^^. Thanks again for all that you do -Nerv

Mr Burns, I am super exited for Lazer Team but I was wondering, when will Day 5 be released? This is a show/movie that I check information on daily and I was just hoping for an answer. Honestly I realise that you likely won't be able to say anything about it, I just wanted to check that you guys didn't forget to simply upload it. Super stoked to see it, absolutely can't wait.

Also congrats on hosting E3, thoroughly entertaining!
