I pretty much like everything, but I guess I have to start somewhere.

I like reading. My favorite authors are John Grisham and Robert Ludlum, but I love discovering new authors. Honestly, I like just about all genres of books that do not include Twilight. :-)

I love to play games. Most games are pretty expensive, but I'm going to mention them anyway. My preferences tend to be toward party or strategy games.

I'm a big sports fan, particularly Minnesota teams. I love baseball, hockey, football, and to a lesser degree, basketball.

I like movies and TV shows. My current favorite shows are Dexter, Modern Family, and Castle, though I watch many more. My movie preferences vary depending on my mood. Mostly I like intellectual/psychological thrillers (not so big on blood and gore), action/adventure, and *gasp* Disney/animated movies.

I guess that's about all I can come up with.

The bad: My grandma and grandpa both died 5 weeks apart. My grandma had battled cancer for a few years, so it wasn't really unexpected, but my grandpa died after having a heart attack. In a sense, it's nice that they went so close together because my grandpa really didn't want to go to a retirement community, and he was pretty lonely for the little over a month he was without my grandma. It's difficult to think about family gatherings and such without them though.

The good: I got an internship at a company called OSI in computer engineering. I was able to quit my tutoring job and reduce my hours at Best Buy, but now I'm working full time hours in addition to attending school full time. I don't have much free time, and my classes are actually pretty tough. I just have to make it through 2+ months of this and then things will get a little easier.

P.S. Baseball is just around the corner. I hope to go to more than the two games I went to last year.

P.P.S. If you haven't watched the Living Wake, do it.

So as many of you know, MN got a huge storm Saturday. I was supposed to work 3-11, but I only made it as far as the gas station next door before turning around and heading back home. I got stuck twice moving about 500 ft there and back. It was not good. I felt a little better about calling in "snowed in" because they ended up closing the store at 4, so I would have worked for an hour and then turned around and gone home.

I'm sure you've seen it somewhere, but just in case you haven't, here's another result of the storm.

And finally, this morning, I caught the 9:20 bus downtown. We had to go slower because of the roads, and we even got stuck twice. The second time was ON THE LIGHTRAIL TRACKS with the rail car headed right for us, specifically right at me. I got a little panicky, but the conductor saw us and waited for us to move out of the intersection. All in all, we didn't arrive downtown until 10:35 (normally 10), so I missed half my class.

      Viva Minnesota!

On Monday, I was using my computer outside of my classroom. When it was time to go to class, I gathered up my things, but apparently, I forgot to grab my headphones. I'm not sure how that happened, but when I went to grab my headphones to listen to my Ipod, they weren't there. I stayed after class to look around, but I couldn't find them.

When I couldn't find my headphones, I dejectedly went to catch the bus home. However, my delay to look around made me miss the bus, so I had to wait an extra half hour to catch the next one. Without my headphones, I couldn't listen to my music or watch my movie on my computer, so I spent the ride home sulking about losing them. When I started to get off the bus, my hand brushed against my jacket pocket where my Ipod was, or at least where I thought my Ipod was. It wasn't there. I quickly looked through my bag and around me on the bus. Nothing. Now I was really upset.

I got home wanting to vent about my problems, but my roommate wasn't home, so I went to the computer to check my email. I found a message waiting for me titled "found Ipod." Apparently, a guy found it at the bus stop, as it must have fallen out when I stood up, so we arranged a meeting. I saw him today and got it back. What once was lost, now is found. Of all the people who could have found it, it was picked up by one of the few people who would have returned it. If God cares about Ipods, he was sure looking out for mine.

Hey, definitely have your friend look over his keepers. He had a bunch of players he picked up from free agency that were drafted. He had a huge increase in salary added. For instance, Tex went from $0 to $36 since he was drafted last year for $36. I assume he won't want to keep him for that much. He had others too that saw a decently hefty increase due to being drafted last season. I'll send him and email too when I'm officially done.

This is the first year that I filled out more than one bracket. I usually just fill out the exact same picks for all of my pools. You know, live by it and die by it. I switched it up this year. Thankfully, I didn't have Duke beating Baylor in more than one pool. I thought I had Mizzou in the Final Four in a bunch of them, but it turns out I didn't. I am rather pissed though because now Florida has a relatively easy path to the Sweet 16 yet again and Michigan State looks like a shoe-in for another Final Four appearance. Which I did put them in most brackets anyway, but it's annoying. Obviously though, upsets can and will happen.

Holy crap...I don't even remember typing that. I was actually thinking this morning of typing a journal. I don't even remember being that drunk. My brother did all of the driving last night and he even said I was fine. Hmm, that's weird. I remember everything too because it wasn't even a heavy drinking night.

Alright...Let him know the team he's taking over isn't exactly...I can't think of anything nice to say. I know he does have some good pieces though. Just send me his email address and I'll add him most likely sometime tomorrow morning then drop Spot when I see he has joined. Make sure he knows that the keepers need to be set ASAP. Once he's in the league, I'll send him an email too describing how things work.

Finished updating the prices for your keepers. You will probably want to look at it. A few notes that might come up for you...

Joe Nathan was drafted and his price is $23.
Fister, Freese, Espinosa, Baker, Kennedy, and Venters were FAs that you're keeping. So, their base was one. I believe everyone else was drafted. Obviously, you had a ton of inflation since you had players with good years as evidenced by you winning the whole thing. Actually, you have less than one would think. I believe it was only $34 added in inflation.

Also, if you know anyone else who like to join, Spot (Pyro Spot) wants out.

Meh, I actually blame Harbaugh for the game being that close. The Niners moved the ball when he wasn't calling plays like a pussy. That's been his problem all year though. He has a thick playbook, but he doesn't use much of it. He opened it up a bit and Alex Smith showed he's capable of handling it.

Now, I still think Alex Smith sucks, but you can't perform much better than he did those last two drives. He's still the Kyle Davies of NFL QBs in my book.

    • sphinxter

Dude, he balled out...What he did was baller...He deserves credit....The defense played well, but Alex Smith wont that game for the Niners.

I can't even consider myself a hardcore gamer. I would say I used to be able to play at least fifty hours a week...Often time much more. That was when I didn't have a job though. So, I could do that and still do everything else I wanted to do. Now, I'm lucky to get fifteen hours in a week unless I really put forth an effort to. There are just too many other things I still need to do that I would have to abandon them completely to be able to just play games and/or read everything I need to play and/or read.

Just saw that you received The Pillars of the Earth. I loved that book. It's a hefty one, but was very, very entertaining. There's a sequel out too. I think it's a sequel. I know they're linked...I think they're linked. Either way, I have that, but it's quite a ways down my queue and I only read at work now. I don't see that changing anytime soon. The end of the month and early February see Final Fantasy XIII-2 and The Kingdom of Amular...Those will take quite a bit of time and should run me into Mass Effect 3...Which I will play forever and ever.

So, either way there is no way they didn't know that they didn't have enough by the time I pre-ordered. On top of this, once they sold out of all the copies, since they would've had to pull them for the pre-orders, they STILL made no attempt to let me know.

Now, I'm not going to necessarily blame the employees at that store. Calling to inform people that they didn't get enough copies might not be policy for all I know, but it only takes one employee who gives a damn to just do it out of courtesy.

Thanks man. I wish I would be making a little more money, but I can't complain. $20-$22 K a year is perfectly acceptable for where I'm at right now. That's actually a pretty good amount in Nebraska since the cost of living is relatively low.

    • sphinxter

Yeah, you can never argue balls and strikes in slow pitch. In fact, I wish balls didn't exist. I loathe people who take walks in slow pitch. I've taken one in my life and that's only because I was literally pitched around. The first two were in the other batter's box and I couldn't reach them. The third one was behind me. I often swing at things above my head and people know it.

    • sphinxter

Yikes...That is...Well, you would make a few guys on my team feel better about how they've started the season. It happens though. Especially if you haven't played in a long time. It takes time to get back into the rhythm of things...Although, you should never, ever strike out looking in slow pitch softball. That's grounds for having to buy the team a case of beer...If you get another chance to play, you'll improve. It actually comes back quicker than you think.

    • sphinxter

That was a nice touch. It shows that even though they all basically hate him as a boss, they all love him as a person at least.

    • sphinxter

That's what happened to my buddy that I was playing in the finals. He had LeSean McCoy, Calvin Johnson, and McFadden not play. He actually started McFadden and Johnson. It didn't really matter though. I outscored him 86-68 in week 16 and 116-78 this week. So, even with those guys, he probably wouldn't have beat me. I owe that to Ryan Mathews finally making it worthwhile to keep him. I drafted him in three leagues. For some reason, that was the only league I kept him the whole season in and he rewarded me.

Besides, like I said, I scored the most points in two other leagues and didn't make the playoffs (with a 6-7 record) in one of them. So, I don't feel bad about the way I won.

    • sphinxter

Well, they technically are, but they aren't traditional trivia questions. They're basically, apply logic of things you know questions. The only actual traditional trivia question I would count was on today's episode. Which of these fictional characters would be the highest rank in the U.S. army if real: Captain America, Colonel Mustard, Sergeant forgot his name, and Private Ryan. I knew it was colonel from years upon years of video game playing.

    • sphinxter

Eh, it isn't as much of a trivia show to be honest. Most of the questions involve knowing some trivia, but then being able to apply it. Like, What magazine has the most paid subscribers in 2009: Motor Trend, Playboy, Sports Illustrated, or Men's Health? Which slogan was first used: "Just do it," "Melts in your mouth, not in your hand," or "Where's the beef?" What product was introduced first: Bayer Aspirin, Band-aid brand bandages, or Nyquil? According to a Time magazine poll, who was the most trusted newscaster in 2009: Brian Williams or Jon Stewart? Which of these athletes is the tallest: Peyton Manning, Alex Rodriguez, Michael Phelps, or LeBron James? Then, of course the two I mentioned in my journal.

There has been three couples, all three got to the last question, and there are seven questions. Of the twenty-one questions, I'd say all, but one or two involved something like that. I could be wrong too. I honestly can't think of a single question that was a straight trivia question. The first question they asked might have been the closest. "On a standard U.S. telephone number pad, what numbers spell out the lead singer of U2's name: 1666, 1667, 2666, or 2667?" Obviously, you had to know Bono was the lead singer, but then you had to apply that knowledge to the phone.

I got the word of someone who asked Pepperidge Farm directly. He's a guy whose word I trust. Either way, I'm positive it's either "the" or "gold" since most people seem to hear an extra syllable in there. I do think "I love goldfishes" makes the most sense now.

It is weird though that no videos of the original jingle seem to be out there.

    • sphinxter

Oh yeah, someone in my Goldfish journal just told me that the official lyrics are "I love goldfishes..." So, you were closer than I was. It still works as a haiku though. It's strange that almost everyone hears "the" instead of "gold" though.

I just saw on Borders.com that all five books are available for less than thirty bucks total. Books one through three are together and then the last two are as well. Both "sets" are under fifteen dollars.

Meh, it would obviously depend on who the director ends up being. I'll admit I don't remember too much about it though. I definitely have to get my hands on them to reread them.

HOLY CRAP!!!! THAT'S IT!!!! I have read that series. I checked all of the books out of my high school's library like my freshman year. I read the first for a book report and got hooked. I completely forgot the name of the series though. I couldn't remember anything about it though besides that I loved it. However, reading about the characters and stuff brought it all back to me. I'm definitely going to track those books down and reread them now that I know what they're called again. Thank you.

so dilemma for me. a long time ago my mom and i got a 2-pack toothbrush from sam's club. sonicare. i love those. we had 2 toothbrushes and 1 charger to share. the toothbrush heads are removable and you buy more. now that i'm moving out, i can just buy a new one to get a charger for $89 :( or get another 2-pack at sams but i don't know who would want it. or my mom said she would sell you hers for $20. then of course you would have to buy the toothbrush heads to replace on hers. and we could share the charger of course. would you be interested? the sonicare brushes are soooo good, you won't want to go back.

I watched more of his videos. He's actually pretty funny. I feel fine saying that now since I'm pretty sure that's his goal. Some of the comments on his videos rip him apart though. They almost all have over a million views though. So, he's doing something right.

    • sphinxter

Oh no, I don't feel like that at all. That's why I even implied as much in my essay. At one point I even admitted that I'm not one of those guys who would refuse to quit a job and be a "stay at home dad" so my wife could further her career. I wouldn't feel emasculated in the least. In fact, that's my dream. Sure, it wouldn't be as awesome with having to look after kids. That's especially true when they're younger. However, from all accounts I've heard, once you have a kid that's actually yours, you actually grow attach to them. I'd love to stay at home so I can read, sleep, and play video games all day. I know I'd have to wash dishes, clean the house, and do other errands, but that's much better than an actual legit job. I'd love it if the roles of the sexes were completely reversed.

However, sexist jokes work surprisingly well with the ladies. As long as you don't over do it and they know you're kidding. I have never figured out why, but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that women like feeling inferior and when guys act like jerks towards them. It baffles me. Like I said though, being able to balance the douchiness by making it clear you're joking is key.

I agree that Fallon isn't funny on his own, but his cameos almost always bring out the best in others and involve other cameos as well like his one with Fey last night.

I wouldn't call her a slut. Sure, she dresses like one and can't sing. That's the first time I have ever heard her sing live and she is horrible. She wouldn't even win a high school talent show. She dresses in skimpy clothing because she knows what sells her. I don't think she is a slut though. She is a giant cocktease though. She's also overrated in my opinion. Still hot of course, but not anywhere near #1 like Maxim, FHM, or one of those magazines said she was.

I was trying to send you a Mauer for Santana and Victorino trade, but ESPN basically told me to eff off due to an error or something. Anyway, I'll send what I was going to send to you here. I'm just looking for your thoughts.

I was going to add a player, but I thought it would be too much. I was even thinking about Mauer for Santana straight up, but that is way overhyping Santana's start. Granted, Santana has been more valuable than even Strasburg to start. So, I'm at a loss. I'm not sure how you're valuing Santana right now. I want though. I can even afford to throw in Marcum, but that would obviously require more from you too. Just let me know what you're thinking.
