      Yes no?

Drop me some comments on when a good time in the next month is. Cheers.

This is part of my travels, and is something I used for an assignment at university (still don't know if I passed the assignment, I have my doubts)

Ignore any parts that seem to be trying to sell travel to you (I wrote it as an article that was aimed at selling travelling to people...) actually tell me whether it had it's desired effect, personally think I missed the mark by a long shot... but it would be good to hear other peoples opinions.

Taking the time out to travel to Brighton is and always will be one of the best decisions that I ever made while studying in the UK. It’s 6am on a Sunday morning when everyone gets up, I know I know, 6am you say, that is insane who could wake up that early. Not me thats for sure, so I decide to instead ignore my body telling me it’s bed time (which usually kicks in around 4am anyway) and forced myself to stay awake through to the departure time. I used to think that showers helped wake a guy up, not anymore. Ignoring the temptation of food I hurry out the door catching up to my mates as they board the tube to Victoria Station. The hustle and bustle that is vacant on the tube lines during the weekend is just as present and just as apparent when we reached Victoria Station proper, people waiting patiently for their trains, crouched over bags with steaming coffee in hand. Everyone ignores one another as their eyes search for gate numbers next to the names of far off cities, the screens more alive than many people at this hour flashing stops across the boards and every now and then moving up as the latest train pulls out of the station. We wait 30 minutes before the train finally pulls into a platform, delayed by some technical glitch, and disgorges its early morning passengers, grabbing our bags up we race towards the train dropping our empty coffee cups into a cleaners waste bin as we rushed by. Sliding into the first empty carriage we all collapse into seats. At this point my mind goes blank and I slump forward resting my head against the table. The hour long journey to Brighton is a blur, filled with snatches of conversations and a fuzzy recollection of sights. “The largest brick building†flows to the surface, then white noise.

We get off the train an hour later my head still in the clouds as we walk through the gates, a guard asks me for my ticket 5 times before I show it to him, a stupid grin on my face the whole time. The smell of the ocean overrides everything even this far from the beach as we wander down Queens Rd, taking random corners we end up in a park buskers playing in the background. While this part of town is interesting the sea draws us onward. We have a short stop at a guitar store so my mates can stare in envy at the Gibson’s lining the walls. After a while the sun draws us out towards the sea again. The beach. It’s funny how you expect beaches to be filled with sand, all glistening and fun. Definitely sandy, there is an expectation that there will be sand involved. Brighton is a little different, full of the water and the glisten but not so much the sand. I would describe the landscape as rocks, lots and lots of rocks. My next 1 of adventure on the beach involved many memories that I will cherish always, the traditional group leap into the air photo, which never succeeded, several minutes of me screaming at the waves in defiance. Which let me tell you is quite fun… until the waves fight back and drench you and your boots in water. Being the crazy sleep deprived fool turned this part of the so called lesson (that being, don’t stare down a wave) into a game. Chicken… with a wave. Who will give first.

Most of these memories are not transferable to paper, or even photo properly. I might argue the merits of video for a couple of minutes before giving in and admitting you truly cannot capture the mood and the feel of any one moment in amateur footage. What I am truly trying to accomplish with this piece is to tell you, the reader, that you should experience these places with mates. I did nothing of significance this trip, and I usually don’t go on drinking runs, but what I do do is create lasting memories with mates. These are the formative years of our lives, live a little. Go out and organise a day trip with mates to a place you haven’t been before. Trust me anything is worth it if you put the effort in.

(there you go Talia a snippet of what is to come. enjoy)

    • Short update

      canon_fodder

I am halfwayz through writing up a journal of the last 6 months, it does take a while though, and I have a fuck load of assignments due in the next few weeks, hopefully I will have it done soonish (oh and totally going to have pictures! lolz)
      Anyways onto updates.

Bad things first. My visa runs out on the 29th of March, and getting it renewed has stolen the last month and a half of joy from my life. Anyways my university has screwed me around on whether I am enrolled in this second semester and whether they can get me the forms I need to get a visa extension.

You know what this stuff is boring.

      Exciting things.
I am going to Canada for Easter... well Canada till the 9th, then I am in San Francisco from then till sometime before the 18th. (unless my visa gets refused, then I am going to bunk off back to aus... I suppose.)

Any American friends live near San Francisco??

It's 3am and I need sleep which is why this journal is so... confusing. but yeah enjoy this random update.

      HOLY SHIT! IT IS COMING!

      I am so fucking excited.

      Steam on Mac

I can basically get rid of my windows side now, (well not straight away, but it does mean I can use it less often, which fucking rocks)

It's going to be interesting to see who embraces the cross platform releases alongside Valve. From a business standpoint it makes sense, they have in one felswoop cornered the entire Mac platform for gaming. Can't wait to play me some Left 4 Dead on my mac!

Not quite kind enough, though - I can't quite believe you've been in London almost a whole academic year, and we still haven't bumped into each other somehow.

Where do you stand with all that? Is the visa/enrolment headache sorted now?

Well... when I pull up a map of the US mainland on my 17" monitor, I'm about 9-10" away from San Francisco.
Or ... about the same drive as Perth to Adalaide.

As for the gun shows... there's supposed to be a background check but if we assure them you don't have a criminal record in the US, that should prolly take care of it. I mean, we'd be telling the truth, so I don't see an issue.

Heh, I'll have it clocked by the end of the weekend. I wanted it all done so I could fully concentrate on Final Fantasy XIII in a week and a half, when it comes out :)

Also, thats the only downside to playing as a soldier, you have no powers :-/ Sure you can get one of your loyal team members powers, but I always take Barrier, because I get shot a lot... My initial biotic playthrough was a lot more fun :)

Also just got the latest Borderlands DLC, so I'm looking forward to checking that out sometime soon :)

    • Phoenix

Have you never seen it before? Or are you using this as an excuse to see her again?

Yeh, you are probably right... I don't really recall running our of ammo for my SMG in my last playthrough... I guess the enemies took less bullets to kill, tho...

    • MineIsAnEvil

Haha, how can you not want to go everywhere? Exploring is the best bit! =P

And okay, when you get back, its a weekend. =)

    • Phoenix

I still don't like the ammo... I am constantly running out :-/

I'll snipe 6 or 7 enemies and then have hardly anything left... And then start using the assault rifle... By the time the battle is over I am down to my last clip in my pistol... And that includes using my shotgun on a few enemies that charged me... Which itself only holds like 20 shots, and most enemies take a minimum of 2 or 3 shots to go down with that thing...

Although this is probably because I am playing on Insanity now... Which I am almost finished :)

'watching Friends'? Is that what we are calling it now? :P

    • MineIsAnEvil

Haha. Well, I still play BioShock with some regularity, but you would be welcome to play it here. Although I wouldn't want to watch, because I would go silly either wanting to play, or trying not to tell you which way I think you should go. =P

    • Phoenix

The thing with the cover system is that whilst it is easier to get into cover, it also creates other problems. I repeatedly found myself getting hit in battle and thrown back from cover, to then try and push up against it again, only to vault over it... Into the direct line of fire of my enemies... I would then die and swear a bit... Possibly it could still use some refining?

I'm being bad in my current playthrough, so I'll let you know if I find anything. I don't really intend to die, tho... I would prefer to play the 3rd game as both my good and bad characters, and you have to play as a new Shepard if you die at the end of the second :-/

When are you coming home? I miss our time together :-/

    • MineIsAnEvil

I am loving BioShock. I have finished the story twice already, and by the end of tonight should be at level 30 in multiplayer, which means I will have one achievement left- level 40. I go through stages of loving multiplayer, and hating it... Generally based on how I am going. =P Its just some games go really well, then the next it seems like EVERYONE is ganging up on me, or my team mates don't play as team mates, or there is horrible lag, or I am going really well, but the connection to the host is lost, or something else stupid. But when its all going well, I really enjoy it. =)

    • Phoenix

I know you CAN be killed, but I have no idea how :-/

There are about 10 or 15 worlds you can explore... The old game didn't have much more on world missions to do... Just more maps where you drove around for hours trying to find turian insignia...

And ME1 totally had a cover/shooting system... To the point where it was almost identical to the current system...

    • MineIsAnEvil

Also.... How awesome is it that you get a fucking Geth on your team!

I was like, 'that guy looks cool, it would be awesome if he could be on my team'.

And then a few mins later they were like 'should we save him'

and I was like 'FUCK YES!!'

and it was the best day ever.

    • Phoenix

Someone IS supposed to die each time. If they are not loyal enough they die at the end of each sequence :-/ And they can die when you are crashing through the debris field if you have not fully upgraded the Normandy.

      How is england treating you?

      You coming home soon?

      Just clocked it last night.

      Pure awesome :)

Story is amazing... So many surprises :)

And I actually like most of the new team mates :) Although I still miss the old ones that wouldn't re-join with me :-/

There are some worlds that you can land on, but they are few and far between, and you have to search for them... I think I found ten or fifteen or so... Not including loyalty missions.

As far as exploration goes, I am really friggen glad that they got rid of the Mako... I hated that thing...

Where abouts are you up to?

      Hahahaha...

      You are in trouble!

      =P

Sif being with Glod isn't awesome. Mass Effect will always be there at a later time. =)

As for Bioshock... Uhm, I have finished it at least 5 times. I 100% the achievements two years ago...

So yes. I do know who you are, and about the plane. =P

    • MineIsAnEvil

Haha, Jarrad is actually playing it (ME2) right now. =P

It was by $20 a week- the most they knew they could get away with. =/ If it was any more, we would have started looking elsewhere...

But we decided to stay here. There were similar places to this, for similar prices to last year (ie cheaper)... But I decided it wasn't worth all the hassle of going to inspections, applying, probably not getting them in the first place, not to mention moving etc. Besides, I like it here. =)

Haha, don't worry, it is nice to read you talking about your favourite games. =) And of course mood does affect it a lot. I go through stages, but Bioshock just seems to be a game that I can play and play, and have gone back to it a number of times now, and still enjoy it as much as I did at the start. KOTOR and Warcraft 3 are both up there as well. =)

The house is going well, although we have just agreed to a new lease agreement (which included an increase in rent, which sucked :-/ )

And yes, the stupid piece of carpet is still here, tripping people (mostly me) over. I think it misses you and takes it out on me. =P

Mass Effect only came out here today. As soon as he gets home he will be playing it though. Until Bioshock comes out. Then I get the xbox, because I only have a week before I go back to uni (so he can use it again then)

I am not really scared by it any more. I initially used to play it at night in bed in Adelaide (Jarrad would fall asleep, and I'd stay up playing). That was scary. =P Now I know where all the scary bits are, it generally isn't so bad. I know I'm going to be scared in 2 though! Can't wait for it. The first one is possibly my favourite game ever. And that is saying something!

    • MineIsAnEvil

Yeah, I have been playing a bit. System Shock 2 and BioShock mostly... Can't wait for BioShock 2! =P

Austin, almost! oh well. Its close by though right? the one down the hill??

Yeah, thats the one. And it is close, which is really useful. Compared to the 45 minutes to uni, plus walking time, this is about 10 mins all up. I have to admit, I am looking forward to that. Not to mention not having to pay for transport. =)

    • MineIsAnEvil

Haha, yeah. I hate organising stuff too. =/

I haven't started yet. I am enrolled in honours at the Austin (you were close! ;)) which is going to be really hard, but should be good too. I am going to have a crazy year, but it is worth it. =)

I start mid Feb. Until then I am trying to make the most out of my holidays, by doing not much. =P Not looking forward to constantly being busy til November or so though! =/

    • SloeBombFizz

Yes, yes I did. I wrestled the HELL out of that kangaroo in the snow.

Apparently it was quite the show too... I saw the neighbor's window curtains pull back while I was out there setting up the tripod. I hope it was their cat.

It's one thing to be willing to embarass yourself wrestling a large inflatible kangaroo in the snow in your back yard... it's another thing entirely to be willing to be seen staging the battle for film.

    • SloeBombFizz

There's like a bagillion different versions of that same story in different movies, and you haven't seen any of them? Did you grow up without electricity? Did wild dingos come and steal the television away every Christmas?

      Crazy!

For the full, boring Dicken's version there's plenty to choose ~ Patrick Stewart's the BBC's or the George C Scott. But for a fun movie and maybe you'll cry too (if you have a soul), I'd suggest watching a Bill Murray movie called, SCROOGED.

    • TottWriter

Yeah, we don't often get snow like this. Normally it just hangs in the air but doesn't settle. This is a lot of snow by the South-East's standards. Still, I tend to forget that there are places which just don't get it at all.

    • MineIsAnEvil

I TRIED THAT!!! I swear I tried that.

It came up with nothing- 404 or broken page or something.

      But now it works.

      >_<

That video was fantastic. I laughed a number of times. Thankyou for showing me some of London. Especially the upside down green. =P

Except now I miss you more. =/

So the next part was something about going backwards to go forwards or something?

    • MineIsAnEvil

Well, I haven't read the comic for a while now- haven't had time, but I still like what it used to be. Plus she was always awesome. The awesome doesn't leave. =P

And the stickers are great too. Now I just have to find somewhere I can put them that wont later be thrown away or unused. =)

As for the clues etc, they were fun to work out, but I didn't get very far. Still stuck on the same part as before though. Haven't progressed any further. Partly because I was studying etc, then I kind of forgot about it... Mostly because I couldn't figure it out. I mean, the folder obviously had something to do with it all, but I couldn't work out what.

So if you wanted to go through it all step by step with me, that would be awesome. Then I will probably do a face palm at how obvious it is. If it is step by step, I can get the help I need, then try to work out the rest on my own... If that doesn't work, I can come back to it and get more help. =)

Either way, the small amount I did get through was fun, and it was fun trying to work it out, even though I didn't manage to.

Plus, the present is awesome. =)

      Thanks again.

Sorry, haven't been online for a few days. I am glad to hear you are having a good time. =) I wish I was doing something new and exciting like you. Only sharing mine with Jarrad of course. =)
Talking to you on Sunday would be nice. =)

As for the whole chain thing, I am not very good at this it would seem. =P
The only thing I have managed to work out (I think) so far is something I found the first time I read it- that the name of the picture is pw-Talia. I assume that means my name is a password for something. What that something is, I am unable to find. I thought it may have been something else on your website, but couldn't find anything that looked like it could be for me. I thought it may have been something on Vimeo, but couldn't see anything on there either. I wasn't sure which Rob made the picture, but I couldn't see how that can be something to do with it, or Liam, because I don't have any way of seeing their pages on the internets.

I have been trying, just haven't gotten very far is all. The annoying thing is if you do tell me what it is, I am sure it will be something painfully obvious that I have just missed. >_<

As for the hint, feel free to give me one if I haven't told you I have worked it out in the next couple days. I don't want to miss this part of it. =/

Even if you just give me a hint like I need to contact someone, or the next part is also online, or something like that. =)

Hope your face feels better soon.

Also, I miss you. =/ I have finished uni, will be finishing my exams in a month, and I want to have a gaming night or weekend or something.

Wont be the same without you though.
