theres a very odd noise coming from the outside of my window. It sounds like those alien spacecrafts in "War of the Worlds". Perhaps I should be afraid, it's making my chest vibrate.

I'll give you the details of my awesome/not so awesome west coast tour in my next journal. I've got a cold so I am too busy blowing my nose to write a long journal.

      In other news....

Halloween is a month away and I have yet to start on any sort of get up. Usually I start to contemplate what I should be 2-3 months in advance, giving myself ample time to put together a kick ass costume. This year I am running a bit behind.
What are some good ideas for a Halloween costume? It's gotta be for a couple,...nothing cheesy...nothing expensive...OH and nothing provocative.
In the past I’ve always done something cutesy. i.e. - bumblebee, snow white....So I would kind of like to do something a little spookier. After all, it IS Halloween.

Lonely Saturday nights are anything BUT lonely for me.

Nothing like eating leftovers, listening to music, and laying on the couch with no pants on.

Back when I was in high school I used to make up excuses NOT to go out and party on the weekends. Most of them being "My family is gone and I need to stay home to tend my dog" or "Sorry, but Boy Meets World is on tonight".

I love being with friends and having a good time socializing, but occasionally its good to just be alone.

Damn, I'm in such a good mood right now.

      Dudes.
After spending hour after hour e-mailing off a copy of my resume to numerous employers and wasting time at job interviews that a) I didn't qualify for or b)I just didn't like, I have finally found the perfect fit.

      Job Title:
      Professional Bather

      Job Description:
In charge of Bathing and drying dogs in preperation for grooming, trimming nails, and cleaning ears.

Basically I shampoo dogs full time. Most people have cringed when I mention this, but I think it's going to be a great job. I love dogs. Dogs love me. Also I'll be able to certify to be a dog groomer, which is the more respectable of the two. Who cares if i come home every night with the scent of wet dog all over me, better that than the scent of boring old office employees.

      I need a new job!!

      -----------------------------------

This past weekend I was reintroduced to my love of camping. I hadn't really been in a while, probably due to sheer laziness, but getting off my ass and taking a trip down to southern Utah was probably the best decision I've made in a while. We left early saturday morning for a 4 hour drive down to Zions National Park in southern Utah. Now, if you are big into camping, than Utah is the place to be. The state may have too many white people, as well as too many mormons, but all that aside, the camping here owns. Of all the places i've seen in my past days as a camping junkie, Zions is probably among my top favorites. Its got a good variety of hiking trails for all levels of hikers, theres a great river running straight through the canyon which keeps it cooler than the other deserty areas of southern Utah, the downtown area is full of fun shops,...and its BEAUTIFUL.
We arrived around 4 pm just in time to go on a quick 3 mile hike of the west rim.
      miscellaneous152kg9.jpg

Awful picture- but who ever looks good when theyre camping...

The next day we woke up early to beat the crowds over at the narrows river trail. This was probably only all together a 2ish mile hike but took us about twice as long as any other hike of that length. We had to be cautious and walk slowly as the whole thing was upriver with slippery sharp rocks below our feet. We hiked up as far as we could (some parts of the river coming up to our necks) before we had to turn back because of flash flood warnings.
      narrowska9.jpg

The rest of the day was spent packing up and hanging out at the shops downtown. Oh how I wish the trip could have been longer. Upon returning I had a new realization of how overpopulated and crowding we are of the earth. The air is smoggy, the roads are constantly filled with cars, and we spend way to much money on material things. It has become a lot more important to me to start living my life in a more "earth-friendly" way.
I think I'm going to strart a camping club. And plan trips maybe once a month. There are so many cool places here that I still need to see, and a lot of places I need to revisit. You guys are welcome to join.

Other than that I am still on my never ending quest to find the perfect job. I've got some good leads, but we will see how they turn out. Tomorrow is Pioneer Day (Utah's day of birth) which means going to a 10 minute parade that consists only of little kids dressed up as pioneers, hearing some awful live music and a BBQ(which makes everything worthwhile). Ive got a couple shows coming up. Supposedly tonight with The Dutchess and the Duke ,one the 29th with The Cheat and possibly one on August 14th with a great band called Brimstone Howl.

If you havent checked out my band, The Split Reactions , I recommend you do so now.

I've also got an electro hip hop group in the works,...but more on that later.

      Looking for a new job.

I can't stand being a receptionist anymore. When I first got hired my first thought was "nice, I get to look at the internet all day and do pretty much NOTHING"

Which is exactly the reason why I now find myself regretting the position im in.
Perhaps I'm complaining too much, but being a receptionist does absolutely nothing for me. There are few skills i'm learning that will in turn make my life more meaningful and i work with a bunch of old rich people that I cannot form friendships with. Basically there is just no self fullfilment in answering phones all day and sitting in a chair.
Some people would love my job, but I really have no intention of turning into an office zombie.

Thus I am looking for another job. Yuck.

As a business, it is rightful to assume that if someone is buying your product, and signing into a long term contract (basically promising you $$$), you would have the decency to treat your customers with respect.

      Not such a crazy theory.

I have been trying to get wireless at my apartment for months now.

We were considering which internet provider to go with and weren't sure which would give us a good connection and a good speed. Then one evening, as if as a sign from God, a comcast sales person knocked at our door. He said he could give us high speed wireless internet for around $25 a month. Our friend had told us he paid about $40 for qwest, so it seemed like we were getting quite the deal. The man took down our information and said he would call us later in the week to set up an install time and give us all the information we needed. Finally we were getting the much needed internet at our home, and I was pleased.
A couple hours go by and we receive a call from the salesman we had just spoken to.
      Conversation was as follows:
comcast: "Sorry, I just realized that I misquoted you on the price for your internet. Its actually going to be $ 35 a month, plus a $3/month rental fee for the router"
us: "Well......thats not really what you had told us in the first place....."
comcast: "Ya,..Im really sorry guys. But if you want, I can get you guys a good deal if you want to sign up for cable too?"
us: "We just want internet though"
comcast: "Okay, we'll itll be abound 40 a month then, can I set you up for an install next week?"
us: "we'll think about it, and give you guys a call. Thanks"
      *click*

Before being laid off this past winter I was working for a company that sold home security systems. If there was one valuable bit of information that I learned there it was NOT to trust most salesman. Reps would say one thing, and then do another , resulting in the customer signing a contract that was completely unlike what they were promised. Due to dishonest sales tactics, the company filed for bankruptcy and I lost my job.

Now an extra $15 a month may not seem like a big deal, but if you let people push you around from the beginning, they are going to be pushing you around till the end.

We talked about it for a few days, and were still undecided as to which provider to go with. Comcast had since called us atleast once a day, asking to sign up and set up an install date. We had also received notes on our door while we were at work saying they had come by the house to install our wireless, without asking us first.
We finally got in touch with them and told them we felt like we should be given the first quote of $25 a month. We finally settled on an agreement of $25 a month plus the $3 router charge for the first 6 months. After 6 months we have the option to cancel or to renew at $40 a month.
See,...being an annoying customer does pay off.
I'm not sure why but comcast will do this thing, where they will call you, talk you into signing up, and then set up a call back time to set up an interview. Thats one unnecessary call! But oh well, they say they'll get in touch to set up the install.
So we wait, and wait and wait. Then we call them about 2 weeks later. Finally, the install was set up for this morning at 8:30. Our credit was run for the $3 dollar router charge and everything was ready to go.
The technician comes to the apartment and starts looking around figuring out how everything will be set up. When my husband mentions the router, the technician replies with "OH! They didn't tell me you were getting one...are you sure thats what your getting?" How this happened is a complete mystery to me, comcast must have the worst internal (and external for that matter) communication ever. Anyway, after figuring out that we indeed ARE getting the wireless router the technician informs us itll be a set up fee of $150 but that were still getting a "great deal" because all the other installation charges are FREE. Those jerks.
He then offers to set up yet another install, but says that he can atleast hook up the modem for now. We figure since the guys already here, we might as well have him get part of it done, so he goes outside to get it hooked up. A few minutes past and he comes back to tell us something was wrong over on the comcast end and he'll have to come back.

Now, maybe i'm just one of those difficult customers (you know the ones who come in 5 minutes before closing, or the ones who spend 25 minutes with the cashier arguing over coupon expriation dates) but it seems more to me that comcast is just crap.

Holy cow...I'd almost forgotten about that one. You'd think it would be more important to me (my oldest brother met his wife when she was a cashier there over 10 years ago).

The only thing I don't like about that 7-11 is that there used to be these guys who hung out there begging for money. Last year, my younger brother almost beat the hell out of them for trying to take his change out of his car while we were inside...*sigh* those were the good ol' days. har har har har

I should go clean out their stock of sugar cookies too.

Are you talking about the 7-11 on state street (ish) or the one off Freedom Boulevard?

Either way, both of those 7-11's laughed at me for cleaning out their sugar cookies yesterday after work (I work here in Provo).

A Mountain bike, as goofy as it may look, will work just fine for town riding, so I'd get something that can handle the terrain you want to ride on and use it.

Apart from that, there are hybrids, that do a little of both, but not very effective, and still lack style.

Personally, I like Cyclo Cross and Road bikes. You could totally find a Steel framed cyclocross bike that would look sweet and handle most terrrain.

Unless your pictures are a dirty communist lie, you'd look fine.

Plus only the "pro-fit" jerseys are "skin tight"

I'm not a huge fan of looking like that tool that wears all the fancy gear, but its a whole lot nicer.

Plus the padded shorts make your ass feel SOOOO much better at the end of a long ride.

    • cg1985

Well, when you get there, you feel a little moist, but it's not too bad, especially if you get the fancy. super ventilated bike jersey's that have a wide weave, and are moisture resistant.

      I just wear cotton shirts.

Mostly, it's cool in the morning, so I don't sweat too bad. Its when I ride home and its 90 degrees and 85% humidity, but then you can just take a quick shower.

Hmm, I suppose it wouldn't be all glitz and glam. A couple of my friends in high school who were in a band got all angsty with each other over which direction to take their music and split, rather than compromise. It was kinda sad, because they were actually really good.

..by high school garage band standards, at least.
