how soon till you teach all of your kids to handle the guns

That starts from day 1. Right now, even my soon-to-be 4-year old knows not to touch them and to find daddy if she sees one in the house. We'll probably have the BB gun out in the back yard plinking cans in the next 6 months.

The almost-2-year old right now knows how to say gun and knows that he's not to touch.

Both of them help me with cleaning, whether it's handing me patches or tools or rubbing CLP onto parts.

The one-month old will probably have to wait just a little bit. smiley8.gif

Familiarity means that they won't be fascinated by them later, and that's what I'm aiming for. I want them to want to shoot with me, but more importantly, I don't want them doing it without me.

It's a training plane that the AF uses to train pilot's to become fighter pilots.

Well every workcenter is different (even the same career field from one base to another). My job title is Nondestructive Inspection. What that means is that I verify cracks and defects on airplanes. Right now work is slow because we are in the process of switching planes. We used to have T-38s here but by fall we'll have the A-10. The third shift (because they are the first shift of the 24 hr period) does what we call PCAMS. It's special checks on our equipment to make sure that it is operating properly. Then we sit back and wait for either a job on an airplane sitting on the flightline to get called in or for parts that are dissasembled are brought into our shop. Hurry up and wait is the unofficial military motto. We have organized PT once a week and the other two times a week is durring duty hours but it's up to you to decide what you want to do. Normally we work an 8 hr day 5 days a week type shift. Sometimes we have to work 12 hr shifts and sometimes we have to work on the weekends but that varies from base to base. Then at the end of the shift the shift supervisor gives turnover to the oncoming shift about anything important that took place. Once you're released then you can go home and do pretty much whatever you want until work the next day. I can't talk for other career fields in the AF since I haven't been in any other jobs. Some may have a similar schedule and others may have a very different schedule. I do know that aircrew members (the pilot and co-pilot and everyone else that's in the plane when it's flying) don't work a typical 8 hr/5 day a week schedule theirs changes based on when they have to fly. There are some jobs that only have a day shift and others (aircraft maintenance) that have all 3 shifts it just depends on what it is. I hope this helps; if you have any other questions feel free to ask. SrAGray is also in the AF so he would have a different perspective than me because he works on the flightline as where I'm a backshop person.

Wow; that's a really broad question. Can you be more specific? It's ok I guess. Personally I'm a little burnt out in my current career field but overall things are ok I guess. I would love to talk to you about the AF but I need a little more direction in what kinds of things you're looking for me to answer.
