Hope Easter was pleasant for everyone who celebrates it (as I do).

Saturday I went to AnimeBoston and had a pretty good time (SO MANY POKéWALKERS!). I got to see Nobuo Uematsu, famed composer for the Final Fantasy series. Amongst other things, he told us:
      - Final Fantasy VI was his favorite game to score and play (play play, not conduct play)
      - If he had a random battle encounter, his Limit Break would be to drink as much beer as possible (this would also revive all party members)
      - The victory theme was written in five minutes at a last-minute request (which Square/Square-Enix does a lot, apparently). Furthermore, he's embarrassed that something which only took five minutes has appeared in every Final Fantasy game since the first.
      - Berklee College of Music in Boston was actually his dream school. Since he lacked the money or the English to attend, he stayed in Japan. At the same time, he's glad he didn't because he's glad to remain unrestricted by the "rules" of music (a very good point, I might add)
      - "To Zanarkand" wasn't originally intended for the game - it was an original flute piece he'd written and later pulled out after another last-minute request by Square-Enix.
      - Maintaining one's individuality is the key to making great music and living a fulfilling life
      - The next Black Mages album will probably be out next spring

Also, his translator was pretty hot (at least, I thought so).

      COSPLAY ROUNDUP
Most common: Kingdom Hearts, FMA, Sailor Moon, Link/Zelda
Most disturbing: Pedobear count of three
Slightly less disturbing: Guy cosplaying as Misty. EEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWW.
Disturbing second-runner up: Not cosplay, but I've never seen so many advertisements for yaoi manga in my life. Then I had to hear a 16 year-old girl asking if anyone in her group was over 18 so she could buy some.
Most confusing: Cross-cosplayers (both male and female) who pulled off the Japanese androgyny look
Most entertaining: Team Rocket and Giovanni. I pwned him in conversation
Non-Japanese gaming: Eddie Riggs, Ezio Auditore de Firenze (x2)
Most elaborate: A dude dressed as a tree, a dude dressed as a four-legged cat and a girl dressed as imp Midna
Best shojo: Two girls dressed as Kinomoto Sakura from CCS (one with the Clow arc wand and the other with the Sakura arc wand)
ATLA cosplay count: Two Suki (one Fire Nation), one Zuko and one Azula

Warning: Pictures galore! (Karaoke folks - if you're unnamed in a picture and wish to be identified, let me know which one you're in; I can also tag you once the photos are in my gallery)

So last night I finally met Jonathan for the first time along with a whole slew of RvBers who, unlike me, were actually attending PAX East. We headed for a neat little joint in Chinatown called Golden Leaf Karaoke and I rocked the falsetto like Bellamy sang a good bit, as well as many others. Of course, the lucky ones over 21 had alcohol. I was tempted to find and sing "Blame It" just for teh lulz.

I met SO many people last night - goodness, I met so many people. I've probably forgotten half their names already and the other half I won't find because I only remember their IRL names and not their usernames.

I plan to meet up with them again tonight, and I might even stay for Late Nite Jenga Jam depending on how I feel.

Photos (will post more once I get back from rehearsal) - they'll also be in my image gallery but I have to resize them first because they're all too big.

VIP Room, cuz that's how we roll.

I got my Stat midterm back; made a 97 - but see the journal title and you'll know why. smiley6.gif

Finished my SA70 midterm about 20 minutes ago and I think it went well. I had 10 identification questions and two short essays; I thought my first essay was a little on the weak side but hopefully gets the point across reasonably well to my TF.

Also, running a laptop on 1GB of unpaired RAM is a pain in the ass. I can't wait till the replacement for my 2GB stick gets here.

Before I talk about the Oscars, I went to Muse on Saturday night and it was WICKED SICK.

      So, the Oscars:
      - NP FREAKING H smiley0.gif
      - Good job to Kathryn (even though I didn't see Hurt Locker she upset Avatar, which is a win in my book)
      - Yay for Sandra

Spring break starts Friday. Woo hoo.

      Chopin1849opt02.jpg

      From Wikipedia:

Frédéric François Chopin, christened Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin (1 March 1810 â€" 17 October 1849), was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist. He was one of the great masters of Romantic music.

Chopin was born in the village of Zelazowa Wola, in the Duchy of Warsaw, to a French-expatriate father and Polish mother. He was considered a child-prodigy pianist. At age twenty, on 2 November 1830, he left Warsaw for Austria, intending to go on to Italy. The outbreak of the Polish November Uprising 27 days later, and its subsequent suppression by the Russian Empire, led to his becoming one of many expatriates of the Polish Great Emigration.

In Paris, Chopin made a comfortable living as a composer and piano teacher, while giving few public performances. Though an ardent Polish patriot, in France he used the French versions of his given names, and traveled on a French passport, possibly to avoid having to rely on Imperial Russian documents. After ill-fated romantic involvements with Polish women, from 1837 to 1847 he had a turbulent relationship with the French novelist Aurore Dupin, better known by her pseudonym, George Sand. For the greater part of his life Chopin suffered from poor health; he died in Paris in 1849, aged thirty-nine, of pulmonary tuberculosis.

Chopin's compositions were written primarily for the piano as solo instrument. Though technically demanding, they emphasize nuance and expressive depth rather than sheer virtuosity. Chopin invented musical forms such as the instrumental ballade and was responsible for major innovations in the piano sonata, mazurka, waltz, nocturne, polonaise, étude, impromptu and prélude.

Happy Birthday good sir. You made music special for me, and for that I thank you.

      Famous pieces:
Nocturne in E-flat major Op. 9, No. 2
Etude in C minor Op. 10, No. 12 "Revolutionary"
Prelude in D-flat major Op. 28, No. 15 "Raindrop"
Polonaise in A major Op. 40, No. 1 "Military"

      Not-so-famous pieces:
Prelude in C minor Op. 28, No. 20
Nocturne in E major Op. 62, No. 2
Polonaise in E-flat minor Op. 26, No. 2
Etude in C major Op. 10, No. 1
