a day of good eating and feasts
an exchange of presents and treats
for some a celebration of birth
for others one of gladness and mirth

but regardless of where your thoughts lie
make the most of hours passing by
so as snowflakes and full bellies fall
let me say merry christmas to all

Don't ever hire DJ Milkman to do an event for you. He's pretentious, overrated and has shit remixes. Oh, and he'll leave early on your ass.

I should put this in some context: last night was the five-house formal at the Boston House of Blues (FANTASTIC venue, probably the best of any formal I've been to). The planning committee had a Battle-of-the-Bands and selected two student acts to perform at the event; they also hired DJ Milkman for a two hour set. This totaled 3.5 hours of the 5 hour formal. I volunteered to put together a playlist to fill in the other 90 minutes (beginning of formal, inter-act music, end of formal).

Milkman was scheduled from 10:30-12:30. So imagine my surprise when at 11:55 he announces the next song will be his last**. Cue me scrambling to the sound booth to put more songs into the last playlist. Then I kept running back and forth between the floor and the booth to adjust the order based on how I thought the crowd was reacting. Because of this, I spent considerably less time on the dance floor than I'd hoped. But everyone else seemed to enjoy themselves, so it all worked out in the end.*

He was probably gone by the time they came around, but I made a point of playing "United State of Pop 2009" to remind people what GOOD mashup music sounds like and "Fuck You!" to...well, let's just say my middle fingers were directed to the stage at the appropriate points in the song.

*I got lots of complements for the playlist, but putting that shit together was hard (even before the Milkman thing). I tend to be really picky when it comes to Top 40 music I actually like, so shittily-constructed but popular songs like "We Found Love" get left out. And I generally don't care how "old" a song is as long as its good, but most people will probably want to hear current music. Luckily the time frame I had was conducive to what was in my library, so I only had to go for three, four songs pre-2009 and almost no "filler" (e.g. "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" or "Born This Way" [Gaga caveat:"The Edge of Glory" is a much better dance song IMO]).

      EDIT
**So later I found out from Arch and James that the contract actually stipulates that the set could go anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 hrs. So DJ Milkman (technically) didn't do anything wrong. In fact, we really had no way of knowing when he would end. Still, it's kind of sucks that he'd only do the bare minimum or not give us a concrete estimate about for how long he'd actually perform.

No matter how good it might turn out to be, you're not convincing me to pork over $15 a month for this thing. $5-8, MAYBE (what I currently pay for Netflix). But not $15.

      Re: JediPoet's Elimination Game

It seems we're Bat-fans. It also seems that we can't leave either opponent alone or they will balloon in points. Here's what I propose: Myself and TheBeta will continue to + Batman and - Spider-Man. At the same time, JediPoet and Contractor will + Batman and - Iron Man. This way, The Bat keeps climbing, and neither of the other two can gain much ground. There are others voting for Bats, too, so we can get them in on it later if necessary.

You in? *puts hand in the centre of the circle*

      Busy this weekend, unfortunately.

It seems like something keeps happening.

Maybe Bill Gates is using his mystical powers to curse us so we can never get it.

Or, y'know, "it" happens. And by "it", I mean shit.
      That's more plausible.

But that would be interesting if Gates did have magical powers.

      I start on el Wednesday.
Today is the convocation speech given by el senor mayor and college orientations and free lunch (although such a thing doesn't actually exist. smiley7.gif )

Tomorrow is the "vendor fair" where folks from school services come and say "Hey, we're here for YOU!" and the New Student Involvement Fair which is where all the orgs get together and say "Hey! Come join us!"

Wednesday afternoon is the President's Picnic out in front of the library. Then that evening is the Presidents BBQ and that night Seth Meyers is performing. And he'll be signing autographs afterwards. Groovy biscuits Yes, I actually say this. I'm weird, I know. If you need me, I'll be in the corner talking to the flies. They're the only ones that understand me.

Willow is only evil for three episodes, so no, she's not really the big bad of season six. The geek trio KIND of are, but I think a lot of the evil of the season is Buffy just dealing.

Also, duuuude. Just remember a C or D at Harvard is a B anywhere else, outside of the Ivy League.

Also, may I recommend Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 and 5? (IMO, 4 has better multiplayer but 5 has slightly better campaign (you get to play as tanks and as a plane gunner...how awesome is that!?) Might I also recommend Halo Wars? And Assassin's Creed?

I'm guessing the teary-eyed moment of which you speak is the wonderfully moving reconciliation of Iroh and Zuko.

No, but that usually gets me. Didn't this time, though (almost, but not quite).

The part that always makes me cry is the end, when Aang takes down Ozai... and then he pulls in the tide to put the fires out... It's a very powerful scene, and gets me every time.
