This one says "holy shit, I am alive."

Honestly folks, I feel like a dick, but that's to be expected. For those of you who skimmed, I took a two week long vacation with my grandmother and family to keep her mind off my grandpa's birthday, that would have fallen right in there.

We went to palm springs and vegas, and, as you might be saying to yourself "sweet balancing bananas, that place is rocking!" -yes, it is rocking. But it's also the hardest part of the semester. So being away for two weeks meant assignments were piling up. It also meant I had to do them while there. I had assignments to do there.

I didn't get a tan, I just got a word document burned into my laptop screen....I had a 19 page paper due while I was there, a 7 page one due the day I got back, a video project due the day I got back (which had to be edited in the lab THAT DAY) and had to makeup a missed midterm. So that's what I've been doing since I've come back.

The good news out of all this? I will have all my assignments done by the 11th.
The good news out of that? I will be FREE

if by free I mean to work more and more hours. But work is fun when every night is play.

Also, I have got some grand and exciting plans in store for my hobbies...like finishing my warhammer army, and starting on building terrain for the new table Jarek and I will put together. Also, I will finish my three foot by two foot oil painting of the Slave 1. And Kyle's acrylic. I am EXCITED. School is almost done!

So, to make up for the piss poor friend I am, here is a photo journal. Mwah. Also, some of these pictures are like my babies. I love to take photos. Don't be all like, "dag yos, i taked dis."

my god his skin is gorgeous.
      palmsprings1112by.th.jpg

I'm upset that I wasn't able to eliminate all reflections from the picture, but I was literally no more than two inches from this cat. It was incredible, it didn't mind me at all.

this is now my wallpaper. this turned out brilliantly, or at least it did in the high res version.
      palmspring352cc.th.jpg

oh god how did i get here i am not good with safaris
      palmsprings0360up.th.jpg

      fuck yes I love birds
      birds0026yt.th.jpg

      they can be snuggly
      birds0049rd.th.jpg

I hear they can kick chuck norris' ass
      birds0057jg.th.jpg

gardens can be where the birds live, but I want to live there too
      palmsprings158ks.th.jpg

      apparently flowers live in gardens
      palmsprings0010qg.th.jpg

flowers can live in jars too
      palmsprings0189xj.th.jpg

hey, I live in a jar!
      palmsprings61pv.th.jpg

fin. You can all love me again now.

      Ultraviolet: don't.

About eight minutes in I started pretending there was no dialogue, and just looked at the pretty pictures. By fifteen, the chunks of my own flesh that I had rent from my skin in agony no longer served as effective earplugs to drown out the horror of the stupidity on the screen before me.
The writers should be hung by their toes from a rusty wire- the director was the same guy who did equilibrium. I suppose it's natural to choose him because of his success with guns and swords, but even he couldn't make this look good. In fact, it's like someone ripped off all the good parts of equilibrium, drove them off the edge of insanity, and then hired him to try and bring them back from the darkside.
People started leaving about 15 mins. early. We stayed, and now a part of me is dead inside.

Who knew something that looked so pretty would turn out so horribly distorted?

      *sigh*

    • well, I'm still around.

Here I am, up at school. I most definitely won't be updating for about three weeks, as we're taking grammy on vacation. I hope it is good.

The only problem with this, is that it's the heaviest time of the semester. So I've had to hand in three projects on time, two papers early, two THE DAY I get back, as well as make up a midterm I missed. I am so fucked, and I'm just so tired of this. I'm trying to juggle everything and this most certainly does not make it better. I can't wait until april.

You know who went to the Sonata Arctica concert last night?

You know who got their ass rocked by a fucking prime live performance?

You know who got kinda drunk and got into a fist fight in the pit?

You know who spent the rest of the night in the front row?

What a fucking awesome night. I will post pictures if I ever get them off the phone. I will also post pictures of my face, because hey, who doesn't like to see the injuries sustained by stupidity?

Overall, I feel like someone gave me the once over with a two by four and I'm covered in bruises. However, the show was rad- they have great stage presence and they worked the crowd like a 14 hour day, my friends. I am now super excited for Kyle to go when they get over his way.

godamn, I want to go but I also want to keep talking about how awesome it was

    • hey biznizzies.

      crimsonclad

      So, I'm still alive, eh?

The universe just sort of decided to cut me right out of the loop there. Grampa dying was one thing, but then it got to 45 hours a week work at two different jobs, the new year, back to school and a hard drive crash that fragged everything I had. Everything.

At this point, I'm just trying to get back into my normal swing of things. I'm sorry I haven't been active. It happens, though.

I also apologize to the Vancouver RvBers and to myself because I missed the free booze party *pouts*

Other than that, life is going as well as can be considered. I'd post some pictures for you or something, but I have none. Curse you hard drive. Curse you to wherever it is you've gone to.

Pretend you're all excited to see me.

EDIT: oh jesus fuck, even Joe updated more than me.

    • my christmas miracle passed me by

      crimsonclad

This christmas, we're leaving an empty place at the table. That empty place is for my grandfather, and none of us foresaw that that he wouldn't be there to fill it.

My grandfather was a healthy, hearty man. He worked on a farm in Saskatchewan in an immigrant Ukrainian community. He built he and my grandmother's first house from the ground up. He used to do one handed pushups as though they were regular ones, well into his sixties. He'd get a whim and build something, which resulted in a fantastic pond, waterwheel and fountain system in his backyard. He helped found and build a Ukrainian catholic church , and went faithfully every sunday and to every mass for as long as he was alive. He restored a 1949 John Deere tractor on gut instinct- he loved machines. He could sing so beautifully, and with a good crowd, could dance the traditional dances as well as any of the youngest there. He and my grandmother threw fantastic parties, and he'd invite anyone in for a shot; he always used to ask if you wanted a "schnort?" My grandfather could do everything. But he couldn't hang on until christmas.

He's had heart troubles in the past, and had a pacemaker installed a few years ago. But, apart from the regular upkeep of that, he was perfectly fine to continue living life. At thanksgiving this year, he was walking, joking, laughing. He and my grandmother had just moved out of their huge house into a gorgeous condo in a retirement community. They had maybe three weeks to enjoy it before things began to go wrong.

Grandpa began getting tired all the time. The doctors prescribed bloodthinners to make his heart's job easier. By two and a half weeks ago, the tiredness began to turn into absolute exhaustion, from the most routine of everyday chores. By two weeks ago, he had lost the ability to walk. For a man like my grandfather, this was one of the most horrible things that could have happened to him. He'd try desparately to do something, only to collapse in exhaustion. We got him a rascal scooter, and we knew that things were getting serious when he thanked us and used it. He began not being able to keep food down. Chewing it wore him out, and his enlarged heart was pressing on the top of his stomach. It was a terrifying and sudden change, but he still was in such good spirits that we did not fear the worst.

Last sunday, I had scheduled to go and be with him for a while. We were thinking of playing cards, or just watching tv. I was prepared to be there for a while, since fifteen minutes of talking meant that he would need about an hour and a half of sleep. I was coming straight from work, and I will never forgive myself for not trying to sneak out early.

When I called to let them know that my mother and I were about five minutes away, a man's voice I couldn't place picked up the phone. It sounded like my cousin, and I wasn't surprised to hear from him- I started shooting the shit, until he interrupted with a terse "who is this?" I told him that it was L'il Red, and he said that I had called the fire hall. I apologized for dialing the wrong number, and I said that I was trying to reach Nick and Vivian. He said that he was an EMT, and that he would pass me to my grandmother. She was crying to hard for me to make out the details, but I got the gist that grampa had fallen.

The last stretch of that drive was the scariest of my life. Trying to keep my crying mother's hands on the wheel, hearing my gramma's sobbing in my head as we got stuck at every light that we possibly could along the way. When we got there, it looked like a murder scene. The blood thinners that were meant to help my grandfather made it hard to staunch the blood flow from his nose and lips. I could smell it, thick and warm in the air, and I only remember clutching my grandmother to my chest as the paramedics got him onto the stretcher. He looked like he was wearing some hideous mask, but he was concious and joking with the EMTs. It was horrible, as my gramma cried to us that his body had been blocking the door- she heard the thump, and could see his feet and a pool of blood through the crack, but he couldn't answer her and she couldn't get to him. How she got through that and managed to call 911, I'll never know.

As far as we can piece together with gramma's, his own, and the EMT's input, he ate some peanuts, and felt terribly nauseous. Instead of scootering to the bathroom, he tried to walk. The six or seven feet exhausted him, and feeling both dizzy and nauseous, he felt pressure in his chest. He took his nitro (which is to help the pressure), but the doctor hadn't told him that it shouldn't be taken if you are already dizzy or fainting. It effectively knocked him out. We're not actually sure what he hit his head on, but he had a wicked mark on the back of his skull, and his face fairly obviously hit something. One EMT asked him, "Nick, do you watch much CSI?" My grampa answered that he didn't, because he was always looking for sports to watch. The EMT said, "Well, I watch it a lot. And you know, I'm looking at this blood spatter, and I can say for certain that you hit the floor." They both cracked up and then they were out the door to the hospital. After the elevator getting stuck (with them in it) and my gramma trying to clean up all the blood and put the door back on the hinges (herself?? come on, grams), we all ended up there for the night. We couldn't stay with him too long at a time, because they were running tests, but he was awake and aware. I am so thankful for that- I got to tell him I loved him and still had a bit of visiting time. When I went home that night there was a bit of burden off my chest. He didn't have anything broken and was looking more chipper than he had in a while. My mother looked at his swollen, bruised face and commented "that's a fine how do you do now, isn't it?" He tried to snort (with
nasal oxygen prongs in) and said he'd had worse.

Today was my first day after finishing finals, and also conveniently the only day Jarek and I both have off from work this week. I went over to his place early this morning and had a lovely nap and a good deal of the snuggly time. We did a bit of shopping and then we went to go see chronicles of narnia.
That was a bloody good movie, I do say. Also, the white witch made me want to be her. No joke. I think I'd make an awesome white witch, if only for the dual swords and chainmail dress and general asskicking nature of it all. Oh hells yes.
After that, we grabbed a bit of food, went to watch my sister's school concert thing, came home and had more *cough* snuggly time.
      I feel rather content.

Also, pretend there is an awesome modworthy picture of me or that I have taken here. I know I'm dropping the ball.

Actually, a semi-colon denotes the connection of two unrelated sentences. Since I used a comma, it means that they are in fact, one. As is, I am telling you I'm fun. I swear that I am. Not, I'm fun, because I swear.
Sorry, it was a nice try at dorkery, though.

    • mizzle

      'i'm fun, i swear.'

shouldn't that comma be a semi-colon? everyone knows swearing is fun, but your statement is slightly misleading, what with the grammatical error. if i weren't such a nerd, i wouldn't have even mentioned, but, alas, we both know that i am just such a nerd.
