      dragonmanweb What's this?

And all my plans about trying to keep up on here have failed miserably. I think it's the new layout. I just feel like there are way more stories and alerts than there ever were before.

Anyway, today is my birthday so I figured I'd come on here and say hey, and see what you crazy cats are up to. I'm 23 today, something that drives my poor mother crazy. smiley0.gif

My plans today: do laundry, play video games, then have a birthday dinner with my girlfriend and roommates. Should be fun.

      Peace,
      Me.

P.S. This never bugged me until I saw this image:

      dragonmanweb What's this?

Except that I have very nearly zero free time anymore. Between work, girlfriend, moving, and getting over this bitch of a cold that's hammering me down, I've had no time for Internet-ing.

I keep scanning my watchlist occasionally, throwing out mods and comments when I can, but for the most part it's rising back to levels where I might have to scrap it all and start over again.

The biggest news is that I didn't make it into school. Not enough people dropped out of the two classes I wanted to take, but that just means I try even earlier next semester.

Second biggest is that the summer season has officially ended at Sea World, so hours are massively being cut back, forcing me to find new work. I'm hoping to get hired back on at the GameStop that hired me last year, but we'll see if they actually have any hours to give either.

Aside from that, life is progressing as usual. I'm losing weight steadily (I'm sitting around 190, less than I've weight in literally 5 or 6 years I think), and in much better health overall than previously, even counting my cold. I'm also still dating Alex, who is doing well. We're very happy together. smiley12.gif

I'm sorry I haven't been able to spend more time here, but a sleepless journal at three in the morning is all I have time for. Hopefully I'll be able to get more caught up in the next few days, between looking for work and everything else.

I hope you're all doing well. Hit up my comments and share your day or whatever. smiley0.gif

      Peace,
      Me.

P.S. The Mac vs PC debate may be old, but I always love gems like this.
      PC_vs_Mac_Wall-E.jpg
P.P.S. Oh yeah, I've also made it to 8th most online on the site. smiley0.gif

    • Fuck yeah, Internet!

      dragonmanweb What's this?

So I moved out of my old place on Tuesday, and just got Internet today, hence my barely being on here at all. Also the several days of frantic packing had something to do with it. Not much else. Full update later. smiley0.gif

      dragonmanweb What's this?

Finally got in to talk to one of the counselors at the community college I applied at. Was unable to actually talk to a counselor, because due to budget cuts, walk-ins are no longer allowed. smiley5.gif However, their networked computers were much more able to handle their crappy site, and I managed to waitlist for a couple classes. Starting in a few weeks, I'll be sitting in English and Spanish classes, hoping to god someone drops out of each class so I can actually get in. Unfortunately none were open to full registration by the time I managed to do anything. smiley3.gif

In much happier news, I'm moving next week. My friend, his girlfriend and I got approved for the apartment we applied for last week. smiley0.gif We could have started moving in right away, but in order to save a couple hundred bucks each, we decided to wait until after the 15th, as that would make it a half month's rent instead. It works out better anyway, as that gives us more time to pack, plus my next day off is the 16th. I'm pretty excited to be getting out of this house, since I've been living here for years despite hating it entirely. The only downside is the actual move itself - those are kind of a bitch. But oh well, it's still awesome to be getting out of this place. smiley13.gif

Work is slowing down, since summer is winding down, but I'm gonna start applying at other places for part-time work, to cover the lost hours. I'm hoping to get back on at GameStop, with more hours this time, but we'll see how it goes. I'll also apply for partial unemployment, and between these should have more than enough to make it through the slow season at Sea World.

Not much else. Hope you're all doing well.

      Peace,
      Me.

P.S. Slightly exaggerated, but still mostly true.

    • It's Friday!

      dragonmanweb What's this?

Hey so this is just a quick update. I spent the last two hours or so slowly clearing all my alerts for the past week, since I've been working and hanging out with Alex.

Just felt like sharing that I've officially weighed in under 200 lbs today, something I haven't done since high school, and that was only because I was shorter back then. smiley0.gif

Additionally, I'm trying to register for classes this fall, since I am trying to go back to school. Unfortunately, my Internet here is being super shitty and making it hard to do anything online, so the application keeps timing out on me, since letting it sit for anything longer than a minute apparently means you've abandoned your computer entirely and must be logged out. smiley5.gif

If it continues giving me crap, I'll just do it tomorrow morning. Not much else. Hope you're all doing well, which most of you seem to be. Have a good weekend! smiley0.gif

      Peace,
      Me.

P.S. You can't tell me what to do!

    • Oh my word I can't think up a title

      dragonmanweb What's this?

So this year's RvBCA has come and gone. I didn't make it there until fairly late in the day, but it was still a blast seeing several old faces and quite a few new ones. I'm tired (and lazy) so I won't link you to all the people I met and hung out with, but you can check out the group's recap page to see more. I took a couple camera phone pictures, just to see how they'd turn out, but you can't see shit, since it's a crappy camera. You should check out the photos thread to see some good stuff. smiley13.gif

In other news, I had jury duty today. Had to be there at 8 AM, which sucked, because I didn't even get to sleep until around 3 AM. Thankfully, I didn't get called to serve on a jury, since you only get compensated $15 a day (and nothing the first day), so I'd be losing money like crazy.

Of course, the reason i didn't get to sleep until 3 AM was that I finally saw Captain America last night. Holy crap, that movie was freaking awesome. I love all the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and they just keep building up the excitement for The Avengers in 2012. Should be a hell of a good time. smiley0.gif

Work is going fairly well, aside from my not getting the assistant supervisor position. I kinda felt that I might not get it, since I knew I wasn't the kind of person to grovel and beg for it, but I had hoped that my hard work and dedication might actually mean something. I guess kissing ass is a little more important, but fuck that. I'd rather not get the position than get it for that reason.

Working out is going much better than my actual job. I've lost over 30 pounds since I started my diet, and my exercise is paying off, too. I've been doing pushups to help build muscle, and I can now do a good 40+ push-ups in one exercise period before I get tired out. I'm just keeping at it, since my end goal is to get my BMI down to average levels, since I am tired of being overweight. Considering I've gone down from technically obese to just overweight, it's definitely working.

Tonight I'm hanging out with Alex, and having dinner with my dad, since he moved back to town out of the blue. Mostly I'm going to try and enjoy the rest of this day off work, now that the jury duty hassle is out of the way. smiley1.gif

      Peace,
      Me.

P.S. This has slowly become more and more true in my life.

      dragonmanweb What's this?

I know, it's been a while since I've updated my journal, but at least I've been keeping up to date on all my alerts.

Just wanted to post a quick update to remind everyone that the RvB CA meetup is tonight, and I'm definitely going to be there. I'll also probably be bringing my girlfriend, Alex, in addition to supplies for the party. Should be an awesome evening, so I hope to see you guys there!

If you're going to be at Comic-Con and need a ride, message me on here (which I'll try to check) or just send me a message on Twitter, which gets sent to my phone. I'm Mikekearn on Twitter. Just remind me who you are. smiley8.gif

I hope you all have a great Saturday, RvB CA related or not. smiley0.gif

      Peace,
      Me.

P.S. Saw Harry Potter last week. It was pretty good, but not nearly as funny as this.
      short_harry_potter.jpg

    • I give up

      dragonmanweb What's this?

I did something I haven't done for years - I used the "Clear all alerts" button on my homepage because I just couldn't make it through all the alerts.

Seriously, I've had very little free time the past few weeks. I've been working 6 days a week, working out, hanging out with Alex, applying for federal aid to go back to school, looking for a new place to live, getting my car fixed, and keeping in contact with friends and family. My life has been a storm of activity, and the Internet kind of got bumped off the list of things to do with my time.

Today is the first day in a while I've had any free time, and it's only this late at night, after having had a very busy day.

Suffice it to say, I'm very tired these days, but life has never looked better.

Let me know what's going on in your life. I feel like clearing alerts is the cheap way out, but I knew I'd never get caught up otherwise.

      Peace,
      Me.

      P.S. Sound advice.

      dragonmanweb What's this?

You guys update a ton. I've gotten through maybe a third of the journals and stuff you guys have posted in the past week over the previous hour.

Anyway, I'm still dating Alex, the girl from work. We've gone on a handful of dates, and it's going really well. I'm very happy about how things are going these days. smiley0.gif

Work is super busy, which can be tough, but I'm getting a lot of hours (and therefore money) out of the deal, so it works for me. I've also been trying to keep up with my diet and exercise, and both are proceeding along nicely.

Overall, life is being good to me right now. I hope you are all having at least as good of a time as me these days. smiley8.gif

      Peace,
      Me.

P.S. I hate movies that do this.

If I were to suggest a place to start, it would be at least at the beginning of the Yuuzhan Vong series(which is the largest to date with 20 novels. You can start prior to that, but it's that series that really brings Star Wars to life. Everything after that is golden.

Man, it does. The only thing I've rendered out so far are 6-second logos for my school's video news program. They take, on average, around 3 days to render.

Pain in my ass. I've ceased being interested in 3D because of that (and its tediousness)

It was more of a joke journal, since selling both of these wouldn't put me past the amount I need for a macbook. I do still use both of them VERY frequently, and I wouldn't be able to survive the rest of this year without them (3D animation class :\ when the desktop is rendering, laptop is being used).

      I appreciate it though.

    • Alex_vanPutten

Well, laptop is a piece of shit, basically. I would feel like I'd have to PAY someone to take it. (only 4 years old, but slow as fuck, plus the battery doesnt hold a charge).

My custom PC is nice. Originally cost about $750 to build, but I've since added an extra hard drive, a better wifi card, and a blu-ray drive. So I'd price this thing around $900-1000.
Specs are here, only difference is the wireless adapter (now much faster) and the addition of a blu-ray drive and an extra 335 Gig hard Drive (front external SATA drive no longer works because I took its port).

Of course, this still wouldn't get me a macbook, so I should probably get a job first, instead of pawning my stuff. Man, I'm a loser.

Yeah man thats totaly what i was thinking! Like 1920x1080 grew in popularity from the ability to be compatible with telivisions and HDMI output. And the multi-monitor method is deffinitly the way to gonnow adays. I have a friend who has multiple setups, each with atleast 2 monitors and man... Its one of those things where you don't see the big deal at the time, but you miss when its gone. smiley9.gif

    • Schraver Party Hard

Oh no, I don't mean like it might be a possible corruption or infestation.
I mean that when a few of my friends also got they're computers that were also "gaming heavy" at the time they also had available resolutions set torward 1920x1200 like they were pushing for it to be the new standard.

But then we all noticed that its no longer a thing that most computers push and most media advertise 1920x1080 as the key point.

I had a friend say that "it might be because the native resolution hits home more parallel with television and theatrical media." I believe he is suggesting that they are trying to create a unified measurement to help bring all screens and televisions to a singular ratio for ease of cross talk.

What about you, do you think that may be the cause? smiley9.gif

    • Schraver Party Hard

My resolution is a native ratio set by XP. I have an Alienware laptop that i got in 2006 and it seems that around then Microsoft was trying to make the Elitists consider a wide array of different resolutions to different consumers. Possibly the wide screen ones for us PC gamers and such and I guess that's how i ended up favoring this ratio. But other than that i don't know what happened.
It seems like you may have some insight though. smiley9.gif

What a shame. The franchise is so amazing, it would be nice for them to do more with it. Hell, they could even make a movie out of the universe with an original story in order to keep from botching it up...I already have the opening scene playing in my head, with one of those Brotherhood vehicles from Tactics rolling into a giant Brotherhood of Steel fortress to the main theme of Fallout 3 (after the typical 50s song zooming out to a badass soldier in some crazy ass armor followed by a "War Never Changes" speech of course)...they could do it like the Clue movie too! Different ending depending on which theater you go to! The character will end with different karma in different versions! :P

I know, I'm not blaming you for the existence of the tabletop game haha. Why exactly aren't tactics and Brotherhood considered canon though? I mean they were different gameplay-wise...but didn't they still follow the canon? @_@

Even so, I want the full Fallout experience. I'm so invested in the universe (I seriously have Nuka Cola caps and a Vault Boy sweatshirt as well as the lunchbox and bobblehead from FO3 and if I could afford it I'd get the Pip Boy Clock off EBay among other things, not to mention how many hours I've spent in FO3) so I want more Fallout wherever I go, even when they're radically different. Having said that...are there more besides 1, 2, Tactics, 3, New Vegas, and that Brotherhood game?

Yup, for the Data Miner achievement! I just played through on the 360 version but I wanna knock this last one out quickly and then attempt to run through all the Fallout games before New Vegas comes out (hopefully I'll be more successful than my previous endeavors. I tried beating all the Halo games on Legendary before Reach came out but I failed. And I've never actually beat the original Fallout games. Oh and I don't have Brotherhood: Factions or whatever cuz I don't have an OG XBox...T_T)
