      dragonmanweb What's this?

In the middle of playing Halo: Reach, too. Oops, be right back, game's starting. Ah, that didn't go well. Okay, journal time again.

So yeah, girl at work. Been texting with her all day, when we weren't chatting while at work. She's cute, and clearly digs me. We're gonna hang out on Thursday, and see how things go from there.

As far as work itself goes, it's been getting pretty busy. I'm hitting at or just under 40 hours a week again. It will likely stay this way through the end of summer. That's fine with me, of course. Even though the job can be tough sometimes, I've never had the chance to work with so many people I actually like. It makes putting up with the ones I don't like much easier. smiley0.gif

I've been upping my exercise, too. I'm now at 20 lbs for the weights, and instead of just running, I've started bicycling again. I rode without a helmet before, which is unsafe, but perfectly legal in this state. I just couldn't afford the money for one at the time. Now, though, I have a new helmet, bike lock, and kickstand (since strangely, the bike didn't include one). Makes using it a lot more convenient all around.

Anyway, not much else going on. I hope you guys had a good weekend.

      Peace,
      Me.

P.S. I find this more hilarious than I should.

    • Weekend Update

      dragonmanweb What's this?

Even though it's only the weekend for a couple more hours.

Work has been busy as hell, lately. We are officially in the busy season as of tomorrow, but even so, it's been crazy already. I work three 8 hour shifts back to back to back this weekend, on account of Memorial Day. Today I was supposed to work a 9.25 hour shift, but they let me go home early as things started to slow down later in the night.

When I'm not working it seems as though there is an endless amount of stuff to do anyway. I've had to do some cleaning, I helped a friend move, I've been trying to spend time with my grandparents, and next week is my mom's birthday, which I still haven't had time to shop for. I at least need to get her a card or something, which I guess I'll try and do tomorrow night after work.

I've also been keeping up with my exercise. I haven't done any running this weekend on account of all the walking at work, but I have every other day this week. I worked my way up (or down?) to a 12 minute mile - 5 mph for a full mile. It damn near killed me, but it felt good, too. I've also lost 9 lbs since I started watching what I eat and exercising more. Not once since I started have I gone over the limit on my daily calories (though I have gotten close a few times - I do an extra run on those days).

Anyway, I'm off to bed now. I hope you all had a good Memorial Day weekend (for those in the US, anyway!), and if any of you made it to RTX, write a journal about it or something! I need to be able to pretend like I went. smiley6.gif

      Peace,
      Me.

P.S. I love The Simpsons. So much.

    • Six Flags: Recap

      dragonmanweb What's this?

I would have made this journal sooner, but I was dead tired from Six Flags on Friday night, and the same from an 8 hour shift on Saturday.

I had a blast at the park. It ended up being just me and my buddy Kurt, since we couldn't get anyone else to go. It worked out well, though, since we both love roller coasters and just focused on that all day instead of any other rides, which never happens with larger groups in our experience.

In total we hit 9 different coasters for a total of 13 rides in one day:

      Goliath
      Colossus
      Scream (twice)
      Riddler's Revenge
      Apocalypse (formerly Terminator: Salvation)
      Déjà Vu
      (Break for lunch)
      Viper (twice)
      Ninja
      X2
      Viper (again)
      Apocalypse (again)

Rides we hit more than once were the ones with really short lines. We even left the park for lunch to save money, and also left about a half an hour before the park closed, leaving both of us pretty surprised we managed to hit so many rides while there.

As you no doubt have heard, the predicted apocalypse didn't occur, which I expected, but I figured if it did happen, then at least I would have one hell of a final day on Earth. Of course, my body is complaining now. No matter how much fun it is, I can't slam into a restraining harness at 50+ MPH over and over again without some discomfort. My collarbones and lower back especially seem a little bruised. Totally worth it, though.

Anyway, I hope you all had a good weekend.

      Peace,
      Me.

P.S. Wolverine is such a mature, balanced individual.

      dragonmanweb What's this?

On Wednesday, I was scheduled to work, but my shift was cut due to bad weather. Because of that, I ended up having 5 days in a row of no work, and was disappointed that I didn't manage to do anything really fun in that time outside my house. As much as I enjoy video games (which is really more than I can say with mere words) I do like to get out and experience life some times.

So I spontaneously decided that a trip to Six Flags would be fun. I called up my buddy, and he agreed, so we're going today. Thankfully Coca-Cola is doing their usual summertime thing, where you can get in cheaper just by having a Coke can with you. Every time I've gone to Six Flags I've either gotten tickets cheap in advance, or bought them on sight using the Coke can discount. Makes me feel sorry for the poor saps who don't plan ahead. smiley0.gif

Anyway, it's Friday again, so another update on my exercise is due. I've been at or below my recommended daily calorie intake every day, and at or above my recommended exercise each day. Thanks to that, I've actually lost a couple of pounds in the past week. Additionally, I feel better than I have in a long time, both physically from the exercise and eating better, and mentally because I'm actually doing something to improve myself.

Well I have to go finish getting ready. I hope you all have had a good week and are ready for the weekend.

      Peace,
      Me.

P.S. Note to self: don't ride the bus anymore.

      dragonmanweb What's this?

I went to the midnight launch, because I know all the people who work at that GameStop, seeing as I used to work there. It's always fun hanging out with a bunch of other nerds, something I don't get to do often enough.

They had some body outlines on the floor, but other than that, there wasn't much themed stuff. Still, they had music, sodas, and games for people to enjoy, so I definitely had fun hanging out for a while waiting for the game.

After I got home, I played for a few hours, came to the conclusion that I was a terrible detective, but had a blast playing the whole time anyway. I've only done the first few cases, and even though they are pretty obviously starter cases, they don't treat you like a complete idiot. It makes it feel natural that you're investigating things. It's pretty cool so far.

Of course, the biggest reason I went to the launch party and played so long into the morning is that my anti-virus flagged an attack, and I did a full system scan, which considering my 4 TB of storage took about 7 hours in total. I started it, went to the midnight launch, had fun, got my game, came home, played it, and finally went to bed, all without it being finished. It just helpfully informed after it was done how long it took. Still, a clean PC is worth it.

Now it's off to do laundry and deal with my grief at losing the RvB skin on the site.

      Peace,
      Me.

P.S. Ah, so that's how it works.

    • Worn out

      dragonmanweb What's this?

Just finished my daily exercises. Thanks to Britte I downloaded the My Fitness Pal app on my iPod Touch, so I could more easily keep track of what I was eating. For the first day, I changed nothing, just to compare to what was recommended for me to lose weight. Turns out (big surprise) I was consuming a lot more calories than I needed.

Therefore, I've started to cut back. Don't go for seconds, don't get a refill on the soda (or preferably, drink water!), don't grab a snack just because you're bored. I know weight supposedly fluctuates day to day, but weighing myself today I'm two pounds lighter than I was on Monday. Progress!

The only downside is that I'm still adjusting to this new routine. I've been weightlifting for a while, but not getting a lot of cardio, which is needed to burn calories. Doing at least a mile or more a day was exhausting at first, but now I'm just generally sore all day. That's how it was when I first started weightlifting, though, so I figure I'm doing okay for now.

I haven't decided if I'll exercise tomorrow or not, considering I'm scheduled for a 10 hour shift. I bought a new pedometer* so I guess I'll see how much walking I did for that time, and decide if it's needed.

*Pedometer/watch/heart rate monitor/other cool stuff. Great for someone trying to get in shape, like me! Also will be much harder to lose strapped to my wrist.

Not much else to say. I hope you've all had a good week. smiley12.gif

      Peace,
      Me.

      P.S. Oh god, the puns.

I would never play through with mods on a first playthrough...but yeah, some of them kept it fresh and some of them just gave me random cool armor and stuff lol. And you get achievements on the PC version too soooo...yeah.

I've never played Diablo, but my best friend plays Diablo II and he liked Borderlands more than me so that could kind of explain it. When I watched him play Diablo I was reminded of OG Fallout ironically enough...a game I also really want to get back to and beat but I can never get through the whole game before getting distracted and playing something else :P

Yeah or if I get suckered in by limited edition stuff. If I had money, I'd totally be a collector of game memorabilia...as it is I'm looking to get into Game Design so yeah...limited edition stuff is the way to sucker me into buying something I can't really afford haha

Fallout 3 is my favorite game ever...I saw it at E3 08, thought it looked cool, put it on my XMas list...hated it. Went back to it a few months later after beating my other XMas present...gave it another shot, took the time to really learn the system...just couldn't get enough. Ended up giving that to my girlfriend at the time and then went out and bought the limited edition for myself. Got all the achievements in the 360 version and eventually bought the GOTY edition for PC so I could start modding. It was only recently that I stopped with the PC version...don't QUITE have 100% there yet.

But after all that time playing Fallout 3...Borderlands was a bit of a disappointment. I was expecting it to be more like Fallout 3, but it wasn't...and it has that weird art style. It's cel shaded but...it tries to be realistic nonetheless. Gives me a headache. If you're gonna go cel shaded, do like Wind Waker did. Such a beautiful game. Even so, I can't deny the epicness of the co-op...assuming you have 3 friends in real life who are gamers. The gamers in my area take nerdiness to a whole new level that I just can't even begin to relate to (which is just sad considering how hooked on games I am) so I mostly hang with people who DON'T game.

I never used to be that way because I had to rely on my parents. They wouldn't buy me Rogue Squadron unless I beat Shadows of the Empire on Jedi difficulty for example. Though normally the rules weren't THAT strict. I dunno why they made it so tough for Star Wars games...I STILL have trouble on Jedi difficulty haha

But yeah...nowadays I'll see something, buy it, start playing through it until a friend lends me a game, then I play through that until I'm reminded of one of my old games, which I then play until I see there's a sequel to that game which I don't yet have so I'll go to the store to look for it and find another new game I haven't seen while I'm there...the cycle continues. Usually by "new game" though I mean "used game" since I'm a fucking cashier...don't get paid enough to get every new release, though I did save up to get the Legendary Edition of Reach and Collector's Edition of New Vegas...but even with those games (the sequel to my favorite multiplayer game followed by the sequel to my favorite single player game) I'll be begging people to lend me Force Unleashed 2 and Portal 2 :P

Oh really? I suppose that makes sense considering the first Fire Emblem in the US was released on GBA and they finally translated the original NES game and ported it to DS recently...I had just been under the impression that the Tactics games were on the PSP. It's so hard to find GBA games now though...as much as I despise emulating I might have to cave if I can't find any of the games I've been looking for...

In the meantime, now I'm having a dilemma thanks to this conversation: I want to finish Final Fantasy XIII AND Pokemon Heart Gold...AND Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn (or Path of Radiance...whichever one is for GC, I can never find the Wii one ANYWHERE) but they all involve lots of strategy and I can't play them all at once :P

    • b51 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Now THAT...sounds tricky...yet awesome. But that grid system wouldn't happen to be anything like Fire Emblem would it?
      Fe9mapscreenshot.png

Technically it is indeed turn based, but I always think of turn based in the more traditional sense, like Pokemon, or the original Final Fantasy (as much as I didn't like it...) whereas this is more akin to the most badass game of chess you will ever play. Because Fire Emblem also has some of those things such as classes and terrain (if you're in a thicket when an enemy attacks you, for example, they're more likely to miss) but not to the level you're describing...and there aren't random rules for each battle.

Either way, if they make a Tactics game for 360, you can bet I'll be picking it up...I still buy games for other systems on occasion but typically I prefer it if I get to whore some achievements :P And seeing as my ex took her PSP and PS2 back I no longer have any Sony consoles which is what most FF games are developed for...

Alright so from 7 onwards are the ones I'll enjoy! Glad to hear it. That's the same system as 13 and it's the first time I've ever played anything remotely like it...playing turn based games no longer compares...shame too, I had several turn based games I loved but now I just want to see how they could be improved using FFXIII's combat system.

Sounds like the Tactics games are pretty standard though. What makes them stand out from other turn based RPGs?

It's great to hear Snoopy's little cackle as you take down enemies.
HAHAHA That one is one of my favorites, but I just have to choose the Religion is Bullshit bit instead.
And that's cool enough, I've seen Advent Children and so I like the characters in VII...but I don't have a PS2. Is it turn-based or had they started to move into the current cue system?

So looking at your pics and profile, you like Pulp Fiction, Snoopy, George Carlin, and Final Fantasy eh? Epic win.

      So, following that same order...
      g650g6003709.gif
Have you played Snoopy Flying Ace?
What's your favorite George Carlin bit?
And finally, have you played Final Fantasy XIII (the only FF game I've played...though I started the first two and didn't like them despite loving the victory music and the design of the Black Mage)

I just found that it was a bit more difficult to get used to. I was expecting something great, it fell short of my expectations. I haven't touched the game in so long that I might be able to give it a fresh go over the summer, but that is a "as time permits" thing.
