      I'm back!!!

Didn't really leave, just too lazy to post anything news worthy.

(why walk when you can slide?)

Been thinking about post a list of games that I played this year. Sort of take it a bit further though. A list of games that I played, the ones that I actually finished and then do a top-list kind of a thing (but only like 2 or 3 games).

Everyone is doing it. But since the year isn't over yet, I was thinking of waiting until Jan 2013. Wanted to play Journey and compare it to the rest of the awesome games that came out this year.

Was also thinking of doing a movie list this year. Mostly in-theater movies I've seen but I might sneak in some rentals that I found; mostly because it's my own damn list and I can do whatever I want with it but more importantly, I want to add Resident Evil: Damnation....

      ...and smiley12.gif Ada Wong smiley12.gif

(there are some other "juicy" moments of the movie I wanted to post but I don't want to spoil it for anyone)

      I'll think about it....see ya!

      Nov 28

      So even though I have:

      -Halo 4
-Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
      -LEGO Batman 2
      -Need for Speed: Most Wanted
      -Assassin's Creed 3

....I'm playing Batman: Arkham City GOTY and reading Cold Days by Jim Butcher.

Kind of a weird thing. I'm still playing some Halo 4 Spartan Ops and some occasional NFS:MW but for some reason I re-bought and am playing B:AC GOTY.

I playing B:AC when it first came out but because my account was hacked at the moment, I beat the game using my brother's account. After that, I didn't feel the need to re-play it....until now. For some reason this game is better than all the new releases.

Can't stop playing it. And I know I'm going to get suckered into trying to unlock everything so it's going to be a while before I stop.

But I'm not complaining. I already know the whole story. Now I'm just playing the game just to have fun. It's kind of nice.

      As for Cold Days...

...so far I'm loving it more than Ghost Story. GT seemed like a weird side-step for the series. Maybe it's just because Dresden's a ghost and I wasn't getting enough of him fighting with magic?...I don't know. I just know that after my first reading, I didn't really like it but after the 3rd time, I came around.

But so far it's just been awesome Dresden story. I'm going to be sorry after the series ends (*GT is #14 and I think he said he planned to end the series at #15) but I think it's pretty amazing on how the story keeps adding up. In the first book you can see how he's a young, "un-experienced" wizard but by book 10+, you can see how the years have caught up to him (I specifically remember how he was complaining about how much his knees hurt while he was running even though they're never hurt him before).

I love the whole series and I can't wait to keep reading some more Harry Dresden smiley0.gif

*edit: I think I'm confusing this series with Supernatural (they plan to finish off the series in 2 more seasons.) On www.jim-butcher.com/books/dresden, it says,

"Jim has commented in the past that he’s got ideas for running the series into the lower twenties, at least — here’s hoping the publisher agrees!"

...so hopefully there's even more Harry Dresden to come! smiley12.gif

      Oct 31 / Nov 1

      Top 5

      1. Trick 'r Treat (2007)
-decided to watch this one on October 31 and let me tell you...it's fucking excellent! Captures the Halloween spirit perfectly. Really got me into the Halloween spirit. Only reason I bought this movie was because of Anna Paquin
but she plays a very small role in this movie (small but very sexy part!)

It's essentially four stories that intertwine into one amazing Halloween night. Each story adds more and more to this little puzzle of the things that go on during Halloween. By the time the movie ends, you're just left with this amazing story that just seems to burst with Halloween naughtiness.

I just can't explain why this movie was so good. It was October 31, night time, I could hear trick-o-treaters walking outside my window (my window faces the street), there was a full moon, I was alone (except with my dog)...all these little things added up to making my movie-viewing experience feel really special.

-first story told in the movie.

-The kids part of the story was actually good. The kids knew how to act and it didn't feel forced.

-perfect Halloween costume. May do this next year.

And of course Halloween can't be Halloween without the complimentary slutty costumes. Enjoy...

      perfect ending photo

      2. Halloween (1978)
-a really creepy movie that still scares, even today. Best movie to start off October.

      3. Jeepers Creepers
-Can't believe I hadn't watched this. Excellent movie with an even more excellent monster. Loved that ending (O.O)

      4. Silent House (2011 - US version)
-really creepy, slow-building movie that managed to really scare my brother and I. Loved the ending!

      5. House on Haunted Hill (1959)
-loved the characters. Strongest point of this movie.

      Middle 5

      6. Sinister
-only one I saw in theaters. Some really scary moments in the movie. Definitely worth watching.

      7. Wrong Turn
      -worth watching smiley0.gif

      8. House on Haunted Hill (1999)
-not as good as the 1959 version but a guilty pleasure of mine. Plus...

      9. Pandorum
-worth it if you're a big fan of Dead Space

      10. Saw I
-the best out of the first 3 movies.

      Oct 31 / Nov 1

So October is finally over and my month long-horror filled movie excursion is sadly over. Didn't go exactly as planned but I did watch a buttload of movies. Ended up watching 15 movies! One every two days. Was originally trying to do at least 30 or more but some things came up and you know how life is. I'm actually surprised that I managed to watch 15 of them.

This was actually a lot of fun to do. It made October seem darker and scarier and I love that. October is meant to be a horror filled month but with all the slutty costumes and "bright and cheery" decorations, we tend to forget that. That's why I decided to do this. I wanted to connect to a more primal, fear-inducing nature that October should be about.

I'm going to do a top 5, middle 5 and bottom 5 overview of them to see what I saw and how I ranked them. That way, I have a nice, long list for next year so I don't re-watch anything.

I'm thinking of adding more Halloween movies next year. This year it was just all about the horror and feeling it through the month but I found that the Halloween themed ones got me more into the Halloween mode. Or maybe alternate? One scary, one Halloween? Anyways, here's my list...

(if I've already talked about the movies, I'll just do a quick summary. If not, I'll just do a quick rundown of what I liked about it)

      Bottom 5

      11. Apartment 143 (2011)
-don't bother watching the trailer. It does it no justice. Small budget movie but they got some excellent actors. You can feel the characters descend into madness as things get worse and worse for them. Paranormal, hand-held camera shot movie but with a twist. Free on Netflix, worth a shot.

      12. Saw II
-better than 3 but not as good as 1

      13. Saw III
-not as good as 1 or 2 and watching spinets of it on TV ruined it for me.

      14. The Thing (2011)
-not really scary but not a bad movie. Just not as scary or as good as the other ones in my list.

      15. The Amityville Haunting (2011)
-easily the worst movie I saw this month. So bad it was more of a comedy movie.

      Oct 29

Although I'm still watching Supernatural, Destination Truth, Ghost Adventures...I can't I forgot to mention one of my favorite scary shows to watch, especially with my brother in Octorber...

      Paranormal Witness

Although the show can be incredibly cheesy at times, the tone and atmosphere it manages to convey is so good that this show has managed to creep us out more than some horror movies. "Real-life stories" with some sometimes-good special effects...this show manages to capture our attention and creep us out at the same.

      Really good show.

      Video Games

      Resident Evil 4

I think I just gave up on Resident Evil 6. RE4 is just soooooo good with the continuous scares and low ammo...it makes you worry and run around with partial health just because you know Leon can sustain one more hit before you decided to use that very useful first aid.
(I'm constantly walking like this because I know he can take that one more useful hit before using my first aid)

Really creative boss fights, different environments, low ammo, useful weapon upgrades...I never played any of the older Resident Evil titles but RE4 remains the perfect example of a horror game done right (and a RE game done perfectly). RE6, Leon's campaign, was this with just a bit more action and that was fine.
      (We know what Leon wants)

I know eventually I'll go back and play some more RE6 (especially when the new DLC happens; it let's you play Ada's campaign without having to unlock it first), but with finishing RE4,
      Halo 4,
      Hitman: Absolution

...I'm going to be a little busy during these next two-three months (plus CoD: Black Ops, LEGO: Lord of the Rings and Far Cry 3).

I'm probably gonna try to watch a couple more horror movies from now until the 31 (and hopefully finish RE4) so my next (and final) update is gonna be November 1.

I'll probably keep updating this journal. It's been nice to have a place where I can write down what I'm watching and playing and having an occasional person chip it with their input. I probably won't see any more scary movies until next year. I like having this one part of the year where it seems extra scary because I watch scary movies. Maybe I'll keep all the other horror movies I haven't watched and start from September 2013? Two whole months of scary movies! (November doesn't strike me as a scary movie month...more of a giving being thanks of what's happened all year, up to that point).

      Just something to think about.
