well gosh golly it's been a while since I've blogged

I'm graduating next May with a Bachelors in Graphic Design and a Bachelors in Digital Media. If i stay for another year i can get a minor in marketing and a minor in photography... plus some awesome debt.
I'm going to Vancouver this July for an Ed. conference... expenses paid through a grant. I talk for an hour and i get a week in Vancouver free.

Ummm I'm still playing my PS2 and my friends current-gen consoles

I've been writing some - apparently I can write well [who knew]

I'm not seeing anyone, pretty okay with that.

Driving a 99' jeep cherokee. I love that jeep.

Aaand i'm cautiously optimistic about Obama.

Also i'm a freelance designer. For a year and 2 months now!

I'm on facebook and twitter more than RVB, email me at caseynotinjapan at gmail dot com cuz i really don't know when i'll get on here again.

I'd really like to reconnect with a couple of you guys, I'll check again throughout the week.

I've been reading XKCD for quite a while now, really quite clever humor, and happened upon one of the earlier comics.
You can imagine how great it'd be to have even just a room filled with playpen balls. That would be more awesome than the megaman quilt, no lie. So I did some searching and happened upon this handy little applet that calculates your cost by square foot and depth.

So I looked online and could only find sketchy sites offering the balls for sale, really didn't know what to think until I found this playpen-for-sale site. Then I thought holy crap, how awesome would it be to design these for a living!! I remember back when The Discovery Zone was still under operation, ah the good ole days when food magically appeared in the fridge..

      Anyway
Still in school, not spending Singles Awareness Day alone, got work to be done but it can be pushed back. Got a nasty virus, but it's managable with enough ibuprophen.

Had a number of conversations with my advisor, who happens to be the Digital Media Department Head, about the new digital media program he has been working on. I'm really excited about it, we've been talking a lot about potential courses and concentrations and even complained about the affluence of the incoming freshman. I've got a lot if ideas, and being a potential upperclassman pending the outcome of my portfolio review [should be fine, got a lot of great stuff, just got to take the time to do it right.] I think I could prove a good example for the froshies. I really believe in the program, am really excited to see where it goes and how he takes it; I think i've decided that I'm going to finish my degrees here and get my masters elsewhere or even just dive into the workplace. Be here to support the program, it's really that impressive.
It'll be interesting to see where things go in these next two and a half years.

      ALSO
I've been doing some video editing for a class, nothing especially fantastic, but it should be funny. I'll post to youtube or stage6 and share.

In the ever evolving world of Multi-nation existance, internation ties evolving into fierce rivalry or brotherhood and many products coming from overseas, how do we classify someone as being cultured? When virtually everything in your posession having the stamp of internationality: product designs being produced in the United States, molded and printed overseas, packaged in Mexico and shipped to Wisconson for consumption by pretnetious flatlanders, what is the products identity? Furthermore, what is our identity, if we surround ourselves with ambiguous items?
I believe now more than ever this question is relevant, what does it mean to be worldly? Is it merely a title given to those that are well traveled, or is it more a question of ones involvement and knowledge of the countries outside their boarders? Or is it more simple than that, just having an open mind about oncoming experiences?
When it is no longer rare to find international workers in the workplace regardless of their position, when it is no longer strange to find students learning second or even third languages by adulthood, truely what is the purpose of claiming someone well versed in the way of the world, when it's a necessity to get by? Can there be well traveled, worldly people when it is now commonplace or even expected?
What are your thoughts on the subject?

Went to the BUDA Ultimate Players & Coaches Conference yesterday, it was was a great conference, made some connections and honed my abilities as a captain/coach. We're getting sweatshirts, and the school is paying for them. God I love student government.
Here's a pic of us at the conference. Aaand those jerseys, fit so badly, not form-fitting at all. We've got to get new ones. I'm the second from the right.

Ate lunch across from a trio of ultimate girls. We started talking about school and frisbee:
      Them: What's your major?
Me: Graphic design and Digital Media
Brunette: Traffic Design? Like signs and stuff
Blonde: You can go to school in Vermont for that?
      Me:...
      Me: What're your majors?
      Brunette: Aerospace
      Blonde: Biochem
      Black-hair: Engineering
      Me:...
      You can make your judgement.

After finding ad_713's offer for free mods I just had to jump at the occasion, little did I find out that it was merely a ruse to make you seem just the least bit silly.
So I put in some numbers and tried to find the unique error messages, didn't find anything too amazing like a trout or anything, but I did find a few that made me at least chuckle.
The gauntlet is thrown, Ms. AD, the first to find the elusive Trout-smacking error message will be victorious.

Actually, to tell the truth I've had plans since I was in high school. Granted, they've changed over the years, but from about junior year of college on they've been pretty well set with only minor deviations. I don't like being without plans. I'm really hoping I can get back on a campaign as soon as I get out of Peace Corps. It will be the midterm elections, and I've got a friend or two still working in the political world that I'm hoping will help me get on a campaign somewhere (or I will be able to manage that myself). I was thinking of working on a campaign and then matriculating into grad school during the winter/spring semester somewhere, but I'm debating whether or not to delay grad school and work for a politician or political group for a year or so after the elections are over, and then just matriculate into grad school in the fall of 2011. Not sure about that yet.

As for what I'm going to do immediately when I get back, I'm going to go first to one of my favorite restaurants in Boise. It's a really nice Basque restaurant with wonderful food and drinks called Bardenay. After that I'm going to Java, which is my favorite coffee shop in Boise, and get myself a Bowl of Soul, which is to this day the best coffee I've ever had; thick, freshly made whipped cream and all (not usually a fan of whipped cream in coffee, but it fits well with this particular drink).

So, what's your Twitter account and how should I find you on Facebook? I just recently started using both of those. We can keep in touch better that way since you don't use RvB much anymore.

Well good on you then; that's probably a wise decision. I know that I wasted far too much time on this site during college that I should have been spending doing homework. Granted, I used this site more for the P&CE forum than the gamer culture, but nonetheless it often detracted from my work.

I do, in fact, get out next year. I'm coming up on a year at the end of May. Gods that's crazy to say. In some ways I feel like I've done so little, though my days are fairly well filled with classes, lesson planning, and work at this peace NGO I'm working with. But I tell you, though I'm totally satisfied with my work here, I can't wait to get home, or at least to get out of the country. Going to Tbilisi for a week next week and then taking 3 weeks of vacation in Europe this summer, and I have the feeling that's going to make the longing to get out even stronger.

I honestly expect our relationship to end when I leave in May. There's just no way that I expect either him or me to sustain a monogamous relationship from 6,000 miles away when I probably won't even have the ability to contact him very often. Perhaps if we had been dating for several years I could see that, but not for two months.

And good for you! You should have journaled about it, but I forgive you. smiley6.gif

Worry not. I'm not giving him much of a chance. I unfortunately already made the date, and I'm not going to break it; I will, however, find a way to bring up the subject, and if it's true then I don't see it going anywhere.

It's true, and you should. There is no hotter hairstyle on a man than a mohawk. That may just be my opinion, but I'm always right.

Alas, no I don't play. I haven't the time to play anything really, and if I did I'd probably get back into WoW; I really do miss it, as much as I hate to admit that. But luckily, I don't have the time between my jobs, the gym, and snowboarding. Actually, I don't give myself nearly enough time for the latter two either.

I sort of understand the draw of Starbucks, in that I enjoy good coffee in a good atmosphere; however, Starbucks coffee is not particularly good coffee unless measured against Folgers. Furthermore, Starbucks offers very little in the way of real choice for your coffee and isn't nearly as good of atmosphere as the indie shops, I've found.

I never understand peoples' fascinations with farmwork either when they come over. I'm sure it's all well and interesting if you only have to do it for an hour once a year; otherwise, it's just tedious most of the time.

    • Chewey_Delt

I actually grew up on a ranch. I lived and worked on my parents' cattle ranch until, like you, college came and I no longer was relegated to feeding animals and digging ditches. I don't necessarily remember the work part of it fondly, but I do remember the experience as a whole fondly. I can't even begin to describe to people who didn't grow up on a farm the amount of fun I had inbetween the work sessions.

Much of the same music reminds me of summer that you mentioned. Ace of Base anyone? Actually, Ace of Base just reminds me of the 90s, not summer in particular. Hootie and the Blowfish was a personal favorite. I don't know what it is about the genre that Hootie was in, along with Blues Traveler, that is just so quintessential summer for me. I would say it's just because that's what I grew up with, but Led Zeppelin and CCR also make me think summer.

    • Chewey_Delt

That song made me smile for a good five minutes straight. I remember loving that song as a kid; it brings back memories of summertime, listening to the blaring radio outside as my brother and I did farmwork or played. I haven't heard it in ages.

My eve was, alas, spent working. I'm actually at work right now at good ol' Campus Safety. This whole "having 3 jobs" thing is really starting to cramp my social life. Sure I'll have my credit card paid off in 2 months, but I'm don't have time for anything.

Oh well, no use in complaining. I just finished watching The Rules of Attraction, and I've got Gattaca in the wings waiting to be watched.

      Y tu?
