One of my softball teams had our playoffs last night, and to say it was interesting would be an understatement. We'd been pretty flat the last week or two, and it was pretty cold last night. The guys just didn't seem into it, and we made a bevy of errors, like at least a dozen. It was sad and infuriating.

Anyway, we were down 22-7 to this team that is fairly obnoxious. We were the home team, so we got the last at-bat. I jokingly put on the Rally Cap figuring we were done. Naturally, we proceeded to put up a 15-spot and close to 22-19 with at least one guy on and two out. Top of the lineup is up, and the guy at the plate is a power hitter. I was in-the-hole and had dreams of a walk-off hit flashing through my brain.

And then our guy hits it off the end of the bat to second base. The guy guns the throw and nearly takes off the first baseman's glove, but he held on.

      Ballgame. Season over.

Obviously, it was the Rally Cap. Now, if only we'd had a squirrel...

Yeah, the drive into work this morning was a tad harrowing. Stupid snow, coming a day early.

Here's a cool article from The Denver Post about my alma mater's outstanding volleyball team, currently undefeated and ranked 12th in the nation:

      www.denverpost.com/colleges/ci_24310398/csu-rams...

If you've never been to a volleyball game, I encourage you to check it. I had never been until I was a freshman at CSU, but I was immediately hooked. The games are fun and exciting, and it's just a really good time. Granted, I'm biased by the phenomenal atmosphere at Moby, but it's definitely worth checking out. If you can make the trip to Fort Collins, do so. It's awesome, plus there is some really good food and drinks to be had afterwards.

So my brother got me hooked on the new Sim City--which is awesome, by the way--but it made me realize that I'm kind of a bad mayor.

Case in point, it's probably not a good sign when you name your city Future Superfund Site.

Since I'm not real thrilled with either candidate, I'm using different criteria to decide my vote.

Forcing the Bronco game to start at 9 is NOT the way to win me over Mitt Romney. Not at all.

Would demographic data on surveys really be anonymous in say, Alaska, if you're like the only minority there?

So I was watching the Bronco game earlier, and I saw an ad for the X-Factor that was touting Britney Spears joining the show (side note: when did she become "America's Sweetheart"?). They had a clip of her telling a contestant, "I don't think singing is for you."

No word on whether she added, "It's okay, though. You don't need to be able to actually sing to have a career in singing. Just look at me!"

    • Rum & Cokes + Call of Duty

      fastball_05

So I went out last night with a friend, and we had a few drinks. We didn't get crazy or anything, but driving certainly wouldn't have been a smart decision for me. When I got back, I figured I'd play a little Call of Duty, and in my inebriated state, I decided to eschew using the sniper rifle. My first game, my aim started off horridly, I managed to stick a Semtex grenade to a patio umbrella, and I called in a stealth bomber and then promptly ran into its path and blew myself up unintentionally.

I also was the top player on the winning team.

I did have one other funny moment: I was trying to throw a Semtex grenade at the enemy, and right as I threw it, one of my teammates ran in front of me. The grenade stuck to him, and he decided to run past me. Apparently when you realize you're stuck with an explosive, the best thing to do is run to your team and take them out with you.

Ya, this is 2-3 weeks earlier then it was here last year. But our district rotats the order of the high school's homecommings every year. Last year we had the latest homecomming in the city, this year it was the earliest. Just a small fluctuation.

And lol, ya no dude. That was 7 hours last week. Not seven hours a night last week. 7 hours, last week. lol. I may have been a bit unclear, hmmm...lol.

Ya, I hear ya. I got a property management job, so 20 hours a week I'm outside trimming or pulling weeds or whatever. I cooked myself two weeks ago. 2nd degree burns all down my neck.

Glad you enjoyed the game though. The last baseball game i went to was hot too. I think I actually got heat exaustion. Dont remember if I threw up or not. I dont think so though. Ya, baseball rocks.

That would be pretty cool though. It's still playin ball.

    • Cybercowboy

Yeah I enjoy it. I am ashamed of myself because I am super rusty, stupid school wouldnt let me keep my halo skills up. On top of that I am having some difficult adapting to the new control scheme, and in the heat of battle I get flustered thinking about the new buttons I have to push and forget the ones that never changed. For example, I was playing yesterday and I was on foot and I was getting run down by a mongoose. When it got close to me I tried to jump away from it, but ended up just side stepping and beating the guy off it. It was pretty funny. I saved the film on that one so I will have to show you.

Also, how can becoming featured user be considered a fame whore move. I didnt ask or do anything to get it. For all I know it could have, and probably was, a random selection.

    • thekingbeav

Okay, sounds like you got the info I was gonna look for then. But honestly, a side note, the branches dont care a whole lot. They understand that you dont have a choice of programs, you just got to roll with whatever is offered at your school. So if you are going into the Army after 4 years of any JROTC branch your goin in a pay grade higher anyway. Make sense? Like my brother is going from Army JROTC to Air Force ROTC next year and he's reeking all the same benefits that he would if he went into Army ROTC. So the only true advantage is just being able to get accostumed to the ranks, uniforms, drill method, etc. But you learn that in 10 weeks of basic so its not a big deal.

      Does all that make sense?

    • thekingbeav

If I have time the next couple of days I'll look something up and let you know.

    • thekingbeav

That's correct. Army JROTC. There are JROTC programs for every branch. Even the coast guard has one unit in Florida. But to answer in regards to just Colorado I do not know. Most of N. Colorado is Army, but once you hit Denver and south of that, you find more and more Air Force units. However I do believe there are a couple of Marines units, however I'm not certain. Why do you want to know? I can probably hit up some of my contacts and look up a definitive answer if you want.

The main campus is actually in Seattle. I plan to transfer there after 2 years in Tacoma. I figure I can get all my core classes out of the way at a smaller campus and then focus on my major at the main campus.
Yeah, UW is doin fairly well in sports this year. Football improved some. Basketball is off to a good start. Lets just hope they do well in league. They gotta go up against teams like Arizona, Washington State, and UCLA. The volleyball team made it to the Final Four again this year. Couldn't defend the championship, but it seems like its a strong program.
