It seems that Nancy Pelosi (with her single digit approval rating) has gone completely off the deep end and decided that she need not use logic for her arguments.

In a letter to President Bush on July 8th she says "

Since your Administration took office, the price of oil has increased from less than $30 per barrel to a recent record high of nearly $150, and the price of gasoline has risen from $1.47 per gallon to a record high of $4.11 per gallon.

      And..

In the Face of Rising Prices. In late 2000, President Bill Clinton authorized a swap of oil in which 30 million barrels were released from the SPR to address rising oil prices and alleviate the threat of a home heating oil crisis due to low inventories. The MIT expert testified: “The results were immediate, in spite of the fact that oil prices had not yet moved into the market - demonstrating the psychological impacts on the market when the U.S. signals its intention to act. . . By the end of the year, actual oil prices had dropped from $30.94 to $20.38 per barrel, a 34% decrease.â€Â

 2005 Hurricane Katrina, Drawdown. Your Administration also offered 30 million gallons of SPR oil (only 11 million gallons were actually withdrawn), helping reduce crude prices by about $5 a barrel.

Whats she saying? Increasing the supply will decrease the price of Crude and its processed products.

In a Press release on July 8th she says "

The Bush plan is a hoax. It will neither reduce gas prices nor increase energy independence. It just gives millions more acres to the same companies that are sitting on nearly 68 million acres of public lands and coastal areas.

"If the President wants to bring down prices in the next two weeks, not the next two decades, he should free our oil by releasing a small portion of the more than 700 million barrels of oil we have put in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

Now, a SPR release would hit the pumps in 2 weeks. However as she admits, investors bet on the future. 70 million barrels will decrease the pump price slightly, but only for a very limited time. the US uses 20 million barrels of crude a day.

Investors bet on the future right Pelosi? Well what do you think would happen if the investors were told that we were opening up vast untapped fields to drill? The price of oil would drop like a rock. Also, the oil from these fields would not take 1 or 2 decades as she implies to reach the market, but rather 6 months to 1 year.

As she admits, the markets bet on the future, so give them something to bet on. When Bush lifted the presidential order, Oil dropped like a rock. When the drilling bill failed, oil went up.

Its time for Pelosi and the Democrats to stop playing games with their rhetoric and release the fields. Or even better, its time to let the republicans take over again. Ya know, people who have better than a single digit approval rating.

      When tolerance is Intolerant

      When "Tolerance" is "Intolerant"

Now a days you hear allot about being tolerant. That we should be accepting of all world views and positions. People throw a big fit and accuse you of being intolerant, if you simply disagree with their viewpoint There is a bit problem with how it is used now a days though. The very definition of tolerance violates itself.

There’s one word that can stop you in your track. That word is “tolerance.â€Â

Let’s take a look at the confusing and mistaken ways tolerance is used in our culture today.

Using the modern definition of tolerance, you will see that no one is tolerant, or ever can be. It’s the “passive aggressive tolerance trick.†Let’s start with an example.

Lets look at these 2 statements. (Please keep in mind I am using these merely as an example. Kapish? I am willing to listen to an discuss all viewpoints.)

      Statement 1:

"All views have equal merit and none should be considered better than another."

      Statement 2:

“Jesus is the Messiah and Judaism is wrong for rejecting that.â€Â

Now, you probably agreed with the first statement but as soon as you saw the second statement you protested? Right?“You can’t say that,†you might be thinking with annoyance, “That’s disrespectful. How would you like it if someone said you were wrong?â€Â

Well in fact, that happens to me all the time, including right now with you. But why should it bother me that someone thinks I’m wrong?â€Â

"Because that's intolerant" you reply, "The second statement violates the first."

Lets look at first statement. “Is this a view, the idea that all views have equal merit and none should be considered better than another?†You agree right?

Look at the second statementâ€â€the “intolerant†one “Is this a view?†Yes it is. If you agree with the first statement, you are forced to accept the second statement, whether you agree with it or not. That is the "tolerance trick."

If all views have equal merit, then the view that Christians have a better view on Jesus than Jews is just as true as the idea that Jews have a better view on Jesus than Christians. But this is hopelessly contradictory. If the first statement is what tolerance amounts to, then no one can be tolerant because “tolerance†turns out to be gibberish.

How do we get out of this hopeless dilema then? Obviously the current definition of "tolerance" just doesn't work. Do do so you have to return to the classic view of tolerance and ignore the flawed modern distortion.†Look at these two principles.

      “Be egalitarian regarding persons.â€Â

      “Be elitist regarding ideas.â€Â

The first principle is true tolerance, what might be called “civility.†It can loosely be equated with the word “respect.†Tolerance applies to how we treat people we disagree with, not how we treat ideas we think false. Tolerance requires that every person is treated courteously, no matter what his or her view, not that all views have equal worth, merit, or truth.

France huh, lucky dog. Been tempted to do a similar thing In Japan, god knows I have the connections (Grandfather taught economics there, father was born in Tokyo.) Then again what kid doesn't plan on shipping off to the island nowadays, what with anime and all.

Seeing as College kids will eat most anything with or without an expiration date, even a hint of French handy-work in your cooking will seem like a royal banquet to them. Feel free to use it as collateral if the need arises.

Lovely. I was home schooled myself, was raised with a good level of respect for a well made meal. And thumbs up on French and Italian, I'm the same story.
