    • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Review

      10 years ago

      fore_runners

      Star Wars: The Force Unleashed from the damned Lucas Arts game studio attempts to capture the imagination with the most dynamic force system seen in a Star Wars title, coupled with an engaging story. The game begins with the player controlling Darth Vader as he wreaks havoc on Kashyyyk, taking full advantage of the euphoria physics implemented in this game. From here on, gamers experience the universe through the eyes of Starkiller, a previously unrevealed apprentice of Darth Vader. Starkiller's tasks consist of hunting down the remaining Jedi in the Universe and subsequently eliminating them. Furthermore, as Darth Vader's secret apprentice, the player will be tasked with leaving no survivors on the ensuing missions, allowing the player to enjoy annihilate militia and Stormtroopers.
      The succeeding story is one that can be appreciated by gamers and Star Wars fans alike. The plot is a cut above the three contemporary Star Wars movies and the recent cartoon release. Epic tale aside, the game possesses a host of issues, ranging from an unwieldy force targeting system to a dumb A.I. The force targeting system can be tiresome because Starkiller often doesn't pick-up what the player intended, this is due to the targeting being based upon the direction Starkiller is facing in the game, as opposed to where the camera is pointed. This takes some getting used to, and can often cause the player to harm himself unintentionally, particularly in tight enclosures. The boss battles can also be on the wearisome side, prevailing against bosses proves to be irritating as the player may feel that they cheated to obtain victory; and the button combo executions prove to be anti-climatic.
      For the most part, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed can have its better moments, whether your listening to a stormtrooper beg for mercy or pulling a star destroyer out of the sky. The game certainly delivers on what Star Wars fans want, with the empowering use of the force and a story that will surely be considered among the greatest Star Wars tales of all time.

    • Finally hooked up the new PC

      fore_runners

      So I have finally got the new PC running. Here's the specs:

      CPU: Core 2 Extreme QX6700 (Overclocked to 3.2GHz)
      Memory: 2 GB
      Hard Drive 2x 76GB 10,000 RPM Raptor in RAID 0
      Video Card: Dual x1950 Crossfires
      OS: Windows Media Center Edition 2005
      I will be upgrading to Vista within a month.

      Seems fast....but I really I haven't noticed any performance difference over my two and a half year old PC. If fact, it seems to be running pretty slow in the menus. Oh well, I'm sure the performance will truly show when I start up some games.

    • Metal Gear Solid 4 exclusive?

      12 years ago

      fore_runners

      Not having any evidence, nor any sources to reinforce this claim; I believe that Metal Gear Solid 4 will come to the Xbox 360, and here's why.

      * Microsoft has sold 6.4 million Xbox 360s to date, and has aspirations to reach the 10 million unit mark this holiday. Now take into consideration the price of the Playstation 3 (I have no doubt that it will be the winner of this console war), so seeing MGS4 launching in November 2007 (just like the last 2 games), we can assume that 8 million PS3 units will be sold at that time.

      *

      * Metal Gear Solid 4, costs mucho grande moolah to develop, it's no secret, and with the potential to sell a mere 2 million copies of the game on the PS3, is not going to cut it. You think more copies will be sold? Think again. What's the big title (or some may say, ONLY title) that the Xbox 1 has? Halo....Halo 2.
      *

      * Now you think that everyone who has an Xbox bought Halo 2, the fastest selling game in history, the most money the entertainment industry as a whole has ever made in one day? No, in fact one fourth of Xbox owners bought Halo 2 (6/24). Can you possibly think that such a large percentage of gamers will buy into MGS4?
      *

      * MGS 3 sold 3.75 million copies...with the ginormous Playstation 2 marketshare of 100 million consoles....not 8 million. That's under 4% of PS2 owners buying MGS3. 4% of 8 million would be....300,000 copies of MGS4 sold. Now granted the percentage will probably be higher, but not by much...just look at Halo.

      So taking into consideration the development costs for Metal Gear Solid 4, how Sony wants it to be an exclusive so badly, and that the sales potential for the game will not recoup development costs if it is only on the PS3.

      Thus, I'm seeing MGS4 as a timed-exclusive for the Playstation 3, coming out for the Xbox 360 roughly 6 months later. You can see things differently, seeing as this is only my speculation, not based on any tangible statements by Sony, Microsoft or Kojima Productions.

      The CE will be called “Legendary Edition†and is a replica of Master
      Chief’s helmet complete with four DVD discs. The first disc will be the
      game disc, the second will contain documentaries and developer
      comments, the third disc is all about the spin-off material that has
      been created (Red vs. Blue, Spark of Life etc) and the last disc will
      contain all of the cut scenes from Halo 1 to 3 in HD. (you can see it
      on the 3rd photo)

      -----

      Translated by Hyoushi

      On plot twists

      "Halo 3 will contain more plot twists than any other game in the series" --Jaime Griesemer

      On Gears of War being competition

      "We've played lots and lots of multiplayer and some singleplayer, and
      yeah, it's really good. But it's also quite a bit different from what
      we're doing. I realize that a lot of people are concerned that Halo 3
      and GoW are going to compete for the same audience, but I think that
      when people get to play, they'll realize how different the games are.
      Gears is a much slower game where stragegy and cover plays a bigger
      part." --Jaime Griesemer

      On graphics

      "A lot is still missing in this build. Weather- and water effects are
      missing, and most of our HDR isn't in there yet. We're still at alpha
      stage, but when everything is in place, Halo 3 will be the best X360
      has to offer." --Brian Jarrard

      "We definitely have another strategy than Epic Games when it comes to
      graphics. We'll never engulf our game environments in lots of details
      like that. GoW looks absolutely fantastic, but we want to avoid
      compromising Halo's unique visual style. That's why we're making a
      clean, sharp game as opposed to one with insane amount of details."
      --Brian Jarrard

      "There are many ways to convey emotion. Graphics is not the most important one." --Brian Jarrard

      On multiplayer and bots

      "Multiplayer has always been important, but it's developed in a
      different way which makes it look bigger for every game. We have a base
      that we always build the MP part on, whereas the SP mode practically
      has to be built ground-up every time. Xbox Live also made MP in Halo 2
      even more important." --Brian Jarrard

      "A lot of people ask us about bots. They think that the AI in Halo was
      pretty damn good, and would work well in MP as well, but it's really
      not that simple. The enemies in Halo are optimized for encountering the
      player in large numbers. They would be a lot worse at abstract thought
      AI like 'I have to defend my flag' and so forth. In short, to create
      bots for Halo would be an immense undertaking, and we rather put that
      time into making new levels, weapons and netcode." --Jaime Griesemer

      ------

      New Weapons:

      *Spiker: the weapon of choice for brutes.

      *Spartan Laser: An anti-veichle weapon, fires a red laser that pretty much destroys any veichle that is hit.

      New Vehicle:

      *Moongoose: The ATV that was supposed to be in Halo 2. It carries 2
      people and it doesn't have any weapons so it's mainly a means of
      getting from point A to point B as fast as possible."

      from gamefaqs

      Swedish magazine level has had the chance to play halo 3 in multiplayer and there are 3 levels which is revealed,

      Valhalla = blood gulch, High Ground = Zanzibar, Snowbound = Frost bite.

      New vehicle - Mongoose, mostly for transport 2 persons.

      new weapon- spartan laser, hard to use but extremely powerful vehicle destroyer apparently

      - nail grenade, sticks on walls and emits nails into the air.

      new weapon - spiker (brute weapon),

      your secondary weapon is visible at all times at your back. (THANK GOD!!!)

      New transportation system in multilayer- man cannon, launches you into
      the air through air streams, you can still be fired at and you can fire
      back.

      The X-button will have a special use which Bungie will not reveal.

      No bots will come to H3. that will be all.

      Bumper buttons can be used to reload both weapons independantly."

    • Playstation 3 or Wii

      12 years ago

      fore_runners

      I am just so confused about what system to get, this holiday or later. Currently owning an Xbox 360 (and loving it), I'm debating on which of the other consoles to buy this holiday....or perhaps later down the line.

      I'm really excited about the Wii, with it's potential to deal out so much fun when the family visits every weekend, with titles like Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Wii Sports. I was also considering the Wii because of its cheapness....but when I saw the contollers costing so much, I threw that out the window.

      As for the Playstation 3, I have been hating on Sony for quite a while, especially with the way they have handled the Playstation 3 so far, with a reputation for "over-promising and under-delivering". But at the same time, I know the PS3 is powerful, and will take off once it's 3rd party content kicks in. I'm loving how Resistance: Fall of Man looks...and regardless of what MS has said, the PS3 appears to have more potential in the long run, Sony just needs to do it right.

      The big thing I love about the Xbox 360 (with the exception of Halo 3) is Xbox Live...and both consoles seem to be offering mediocre services.

      So all in all, I'm not sure whether to just stick with my X360....get a Wii this holiday...or save for a PS3...

      All the options seem appealing to me. I fancy having all sorts of the new accesories for my X360, playing with friends on the Wii, or having the immense PS3 on my desk to pump out some amazing graphics.

      The only problem is that I need Laser Eye Surgery in order to qualify for a transfer, but it's all good, the Army will pay for it.

      We have finally settled back into our normal routines (not really), the "War Room" is
      no longer filled with empty Red Bull cans and candy wrappers.

      E3 has to be the most stressful/exciting time of the year for me.

      This year Marc and Derric (only 2 allowed...*sigh*) will be attending the E3 event at the Los Angeles Convention Center, which runs from May 10 - 12.

      Naturally, they will be also be attending the Pre-E3 events held by "The Big 3." Thus, we will have live coverage up on the site starting on May 8th, and running on throughout the show. Of course only premium members will be able to see the coverage and send questions to Marc/Derric (first screened by me).

      Well, I just hope everything goes off without a hitch (technically). Live streaming leaves no room for mistakes.

      Things I want to see at this year's E3:

      - Redesigned PS3 controller (we know it's happening, just what will it look like though)

      - Playable PS3 games that actually look good.

      - Halo 3 (a trailer, a picture, I don't care)

      - Gears of War (let's see if Epic was able to push the graphics even further

      - Huxley (how much will it cost monthly?)

      - HD-DVD drive price point for X360 add-on

      - PS3 retail price

      - PS3 manufacturing price (they won't say it, but maybe a better idea on our side)

      - Splinter Cell : Double Agent playable on the floor

      - Nintendo Revolution w/ controller doing some crazy shit

      - Red Steel

    • PS3 in November, games will require HDD,

      13 years ago

      fore_runners

      Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) announced today that it plans to launch the PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) in early November 2006 simultaneously in Japan, North America and Europe. Sony originally planned to release its new machine in the spring.

      PS3 will incorporate the final specifications of Blu-ray Disc and for that reason Ken Kutaragi, president of SCEI, blamed the delay on the belated finalization of the copy protection technology standard for the Blu-ray Disc drive that will be included in the PS3.

      "When we initially announced our plans to launch this spring, we had expected the standardisation work on all of the technologies to be completed by last August, but there were improvements that were decided on since then," said Kutaragi.

      Kutaragi said Sony plans to produce 1 million PS3 units a month for a total of 6 million units in the business year ending March 2007.

      "This may not seem like much, but it's more than the initial capacity for PlayStation 2," Kutaragi said.

      Kutaragi also announced that near-final tool kits to develop games would be available to software makers by mid-May. But instead it is now talking of a November release in Japan, the US and Europe simultaneously.

      At the Sony's PlayStation business briefing, Kutaragi revealed that a HDD will be required for games but it wasn't clear if the hard drive will ship with the units or not.

      "The hardware was developed with the hard disk in mind," Kutaragi said at the event. "We view the hard drive to be mandatory for the PS3. Rather than have developers create games for the PS3 with or without the HDD, we will be asking them to develop games as though all PS3s have the HDD installed."

      He continued saying that Sony hopes to avoid a situation where some units have the hard drive and others don't but then he said Sony "might end up installing it in all PS3s, though that depends on the market".

      So it's not clear if the PlayStation 3 will come with a hard drive or not but then how is it possible that all games require the hard drive if the company doesn't include one with every unit?

      Speaking about the PlayStation 3 at the special business briefing, Ken Kutaragi revealed the first details about the “PlayStation Network Platformâ€Â.

      The competitor to Xbox Live is planned to launch along the console this November and is set to include all the features currently available on Xbox Live except for an XBLA-like offer.

      Sony Computer Entertainment will run the service, which has been created with the help of Sony Online Entertainment.

      At the same time, Sony will allow game publishers to connect to the network, which they promise will be more open to the Internet than Xbox Live.

      PlayStation Network Platform features:

      * User registration
      * Avatar
      * Login ID
      * Friends List
      * Voice and Video Chat
      * Messaging
      * Lobby
      * Matchmaking
      * Score Ranking
      * Content download
      * Data upload-download
      * Online Shopping
      * Micro-payment

      Kutaragi mentioned that there will be a basic service that will be free but didn’t specify which of the above features will be included in the basic package.

      Sony also revealed the schedule for PNP development tools. By the end of this month, Sony will deliver the first PNP Development SDK, with a second update planned for April. Then, by the end of June they plan to deliver all functions on the server side. Finally in July developer will be able to test all functions and a full production environment will be available in September.

      It was also revealed that our sister company GameSpy will be helping with the network development.

      thanks
      *********************************

      Take 3 minutes and try this...it will freak you out!.
      BUT NO CHEATING!

      Don't read ahead...just do it in order! It takes about three minutes...it's worth a try

      First..get a pen and paper. When you actually choose names, make sure it's people you actually know and go with your first instinct.

      Scroll down one line at a time...and don't read ahead or you'll ruin it!

      1. First, write the numbers 1 through 11 in a column.

      2. Then, beside numbers 1 and 2, write down any two numbers you want.

      3. Beside the 3 and 7, write down the names of members of the opposite sex.

      NO LOOKING AHEAD...OR IT WON"T TURN OUT RIGHT!
      4. Write anyone's name (like friends or family....) in the 4th, 5th, and 6th spots.

      5. Write down four song titles in 8,9, 10, and 11.

      GO WITH YOUR INSTINCT PEOPLE!!!!

      6. Finally, make a wish.

      And now the key for the game.....
      1. You must tell (the number in space 2) people about this game.

      2. The person in space 3 is the one that you love.

      3. The person in 7 is one you like but can't work out.

      4. You care most about the person you put in 4.

      5. The person you name in number 5 is the one who knows you very well.

      6. The person you name in 6 is your lucky star.

      7. The song in 8 is the song that matches with the person in number 3.

      8. The title in 9 is the song for the person in 7.

      9. The tenth space is the song that tells you most about YOUR mind.

      10. and 11 is the song telling you how you feel about life

      NOW...send this to 10 people within the hour you read this...IF you do..your wish will come true. If you don't it will become the opposite.
