Last week my family was in DC. It was fun. We left the saturday before last for DC. Took a segway tour the morning after getting there. The Segways were pretty fun. It was freezing and raining, but I didn't really care, I was on a fucking segway. We did all the big tours and those were fun. So! During the last election cycle my sister did a bunch of work on Congressman Harry Mitchell's campaign. He won and so we visited him while in DC. It was a monday night, so they were doing a bullshit vote to give people time to get back from their home states. (They were voting to name 3 post offices). Anyways! We got to go with him to the house and sit in the house gallery during the vote. His office isn't in the capitol building, so we got to take the little subway tram from his office to the capitol. Between votes he hooked us up with some voting cards. The congress people have have id cards (they look kind of like drivers licenses) that they normally use to vote. There is a box that they put the card in to and it gets who they are from the card and then they push the button corresponding to the way they want to vote. If they forget these fancy cards, or they accidentally hit the wrong button they grab on of three voting cards (No, Quorum, or Aye), fill it out, and turn it in. He got us each a set of these cards. They might just be paper, but it is pretty cool to have them. He then took us on a "behind the scenes" tour of the capitol. Stop 1 was the Speaker's balcony. This is where Yoyo Ma and that other guy were sitting during the inauguration. I didn't have my camera with me so I have no pictures of the view but it was incredible. It over looks the mall and it was just beautiful. We didn't do much after that in DC because the day after next we left for NY.
We were only in NY for 2 days. We went to see one of my cousins in a new off Broadway show. The show is called Happiness and is at the Lincoln Center. My cousin is not Matt Wall. Same last name as me, but not related. Happiness is good, go see it if you get a chance. The next day in NY I got to meet new cousins. My mom's family is huge and I've met very little of it. I got to meet an Aunt and Uncle, 2 new cousins, a cousins wife and their daughter. (Yes, I have one cousin in grade school and another 2 who are in their 30's). I've been working with one of my older cousins on a new project since getting home. This is what has been keeping me pretty busy, but I can't go in to detail about it.
For the flight home I bought a large bag (about 2 pounds) of m&ms and attempted to eat the whole bag on the flight home. I failed, but I was able to get through almost half the bag. I have a time lapse video of that attempt and I'll post the link once it finishes uploading to youtube.
I think that's all I wanted to talk about in this first journal. I'll be posting the next one later with info about what has been keeping me busy besides the cousin project. I'll probably also explain why I need to be kept busy. (Also! If you want to take a look at the pictures I took while in DC and at the national aquarium I've posted them on facebook. I'm way to lazy to upload them all again and so if you aren't my facebook BFF yet then send me a friend request there).
(I'm also enjoying watching all of the autodesk presenters at GDC trying and failing to remember that Softimage|XSI is now owned by autodesk and just Softimage. They keep calling it XSI and it makes me laugh).
