    • A Tribute to Monty Oum

      godofearth

(This was written for my personal website, fishandcherries.com, so that's why it tells of things that most RT fans would know.)

It is with a heavy heart that I must once again take to my keyboard to write about a tragic loss to the online community. Monty Oum, the artist behind Haloid, Dead Fantasy, and RWBY passed away yesterday due to a severe allergic reaction during a medical procedure that took place some days prior. I am told that he died surrounded by loved ones from his family and from the offices of Rooster Teeth as well. I have never met the man, even though he and I allegedly attended the same Fanime Con together, but his loss is still felt.

Monty was a great artist, pouring a lot of passion into his work. RWBY was his foray into writing and creating a whole world and while it wasn't always perfect, his passion for the project was still felt by many. He never resorted to unnecessary fanservice or cheesecake, treating all of his characters and creations with profound respect. Even if you're not a fan of RWBY, you can still tell that he put a lot of thought and detail into the world in its look, its feel, and its internal mechanics. I don't know how or if RWBY will continue without him, but the loss of such a great and devoted artist certainly makes the world at large a bleaker place.

Fate can be cruel sometimes and such a man dying at 33 because of a mere fluke definitely qualifies. But this isn't a screed to make you paranoid, it's a call to celebrate life. Monty Oum wasn't one to sit back and hide from the world, he worked tirelessly day and night to make something worthwhile and give it to his community. The blood, sweat, and tears in his projects, his animation, and especially his Dance Dance Revolution moves were always felt and I will never regret experiencing any of it. Remember Monty Oum and with him, remember that a moment expressing yourself is never a moment wasted.

So I'm not sure if any of you have seen this but...

      rvb.roosterteeth.com/members/journal/entry.php?id=2097555&page=1

I've got to say, when I took that picture more than five years ago at a friendly poker game, I didn't expect that it would catch anyone's eye. Now, both Burnie and Joel (see the picture's comments) have taken notice and, well, some people seem to think it's funny. I'm going to have to thank Burnie if I see him at Comic Con.

      In the meantime:
I finished my sophomore year without failing anything.
I got my 360 and LIVE after all.
My LIVE account glitched pretty badly, but it was fixed by playing Halo 3 online (remember kids, guns don't solve problems, but virtual guns fix everything).
I have a job with a film company in LA for the summer.
I got kicked off of a film set that I never meant to be on. *shrug*
The Odd Thomas stories are amazing.
I found out that "Hardcore" on Gears of War is an understatement and refuse to try Insanity without co-op.
Alan Moore is awesome (as a writer, anyway).
I have made NO PROGRESS ON THE MOVIE!! RAWRGRRCHOMPCHOMPFUCKITALL!!

      That is all for now.

    • Wow, I'm the featured user.

      godofearth

Sweet. Don't know how that happened. Anyway, here's some long awaited updates from me:

The movie's still not done! Dammit.
I'm celebrating the holidays with my family.
I've finally got through my 4th quarter of college. So far I'm waiting to see what grades I got.
I'm probably going to be getting an X-Box 360.
I might be getting Live with the 360.
Dead Rising, Mass Effect, BioShock and Assassin's Creed are freaking awesome.

That's pretty much it. I know I haven't been doing much online lately, but that's because I'm really busy. Anyway, that's all for me right now. I'll get back to you later.

...and as of this past Thursday, I'm 19. This has been one of my best days so far, but I've been going through a self-improvement process, so almost everyday's a good day.

I know it's been an extremely long time since I've posted anything, but I've been really busy with some other stuff. I'm still working on the Galactic Tournament XXV movie, but I've put production on pause since I'm is college and everyone else is down in San Diego. I've also been working on improving the script and the casting while I'm up here. I think I may have to star in the movie, since my original star did something insanely irresponsible. I'll let you guys know as soon as there are any developments. I'll put up some pictures from the scene that I filmed more than a year ago.

    • The Trailer is up

      godofearth

The official trailer for my movie is now up on YouTube. It's entitled "Galactic Tournament XXV Trailer." Or, if you don't want to search for it, here's the link:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELNVlQZkKio

Special props to Alpha1, who played Corporal Alex Velarde, the most screwed up guy in the Halo universe. Well, maybe he's not that screwed up. If you have a YouTube account, leave a comment on the video so that I know what you think. If not, leave the comments here.

    • Kingdom Hearts 2 and FF7 Advent Children

      godofearth

Well, I'm not sure if you guys have noticed, but I haven't posted anything in a while. Basically, here's what's been happening: I turned 18, I passed my senior exhibition, I got a girlfriend, I got accepted into UC Santa Cruz and I'm most likely going to be graduating in 27 school days. I also finished playing Kingdom Hearts 2 and watched Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and I'd like to review them both.

      Kingdom Hearts 2
I know what most of you are thinking. "Isn't that Disney? Lame." Suprisingly, that is not so. The game is actually quite kickass. Of course, if the series wasn't good, I would have stopped playing at the first one. The game has gone through some good improvements. First of all, the Reaction Commands, which are special commands that appear in certain situations in battle, were much appreciated, due to the fact that during the boss fights, they came along with some good cinematics. I was also very pleased with the fact that they added a limit command, which is the Limit Break/Overdrive from the Final Fantasy games. I should probably also add that Square Enix worked with this project alongside Disney, which made the game appealing to all ages in a sense. It was also very gratifying to fight alongside Jack Sparrow and Auron. The storyline was also very good, adding somewhat of a darker tone and invoking some sympathy for the enemy bosses. Finally, I liked the Drive Forms, in which Sora (the main character) merges with an ally or two to give him new abilities, such as wielding two weapons at once and practically flying. If you are intrigued by my description and/or if you want to take a stroll down memory lane, I'd recommend this series. But if it doesn't interest you, you don't have to.

      Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Hands down, this movie was awesome. A lot of people bash the english version, but I say, "If you think dubbing is so easy, why don't you try it, jackass?" Seriously, I've tried dubbing myself and it's not easy. Anyway, the movie had a really good plotline and it was really well directed. It takes place two years after the game ends and it brings into play Kadaj, a crazy guy that wants to finish Sephiroth's work. As my friend Alex (Alpha1) pointed out, none of the characters have any concept of the laws of physics, or at least their bodies don't. I mean, when someone starts falling after another person, he isn't supposed to fall faster than the other guy. Then there's the fact that people were tossing other people up while in midair. Where does the momentum come in? But yeah, Alex's side commentary was really funny and the movie was even better. See it immediately.

    • ASB Ball

      godofearth

Friday, I went to the ASB Ball. I've never been to a school dance before, but I can easily say that it was one of the highpoints of my senior year. I went with Miriam Kriegor and we both had a great time. Here's how the evening went.

Well, after my mom dropped Miriam and I off at the Marriot Hotel, we suddenly realized that we had no idea where to go. We assumed that it was in the hotel, but having never been in, neither of us knew the layout and would have probably gotten ever more lost. Thankfully, Gary Gamza and his crew of eccentrics showed up and began to migrate in a certain direction, so we decided to follow them. Sure enough, they led us to the dance area. Thank you, Gary. Without you, we'd've been dead. Oh yeah, and for the record, Jessica Hubbard is still a rotten bitch.

      Now to the dance...

Well, to be honest, I didn't know what to expect. But Mr. Lee was taking tickets along with Mrs. Morales, so that was a nice start. Inside, the DJ was blaring the music and a bunch of people were dancing. The music was so loud that you couldn't hear another person talk, so many people contented with shouting themselves hoarse and needing drinks. The drinks were all soda and being that I don't drink soda, I had to content myself with drinking ice. The snack bar was okay, but the ice cream bar was fantastic. You could basically make your own sundae and if you dance right after you ate it, you didn't throw up.

Now as to who I saw there...

Miriam and i saw awhole bunch of people that we knew. There was Dustin, obviously, since he was ASB President, and with him, as always, were Shane and Micheal. Dylan was there, accompanied by Allie, who was, in turn, accompanied by Sarah, Carrie, Leigh and Chris. Then there was Emma, dressed in her unique blue frilly dress. Alina was there, though she was more excited to see Miriam than me, but that's okay. Kristine Torres and her crowd of friends were there, but I only saw them a few times. Norman and Krysta were the first ones to greet me. My ex was there, quite intimately involved with someone who was definately not her boyfriend from school. I mean, I know what the guy from school looks like and that was definately not him. Yet she was definately kissing him and letting him hold her in very intimate ways, but what do I know? Ashley and Sal were there, along with Wendy, Delaney and Melanie, who, believe me, can really dance. Jarel was ther with Lia, who I had not seen in the longest time and had missed very much. Then there were Josh and Jon, or Shark Asm and the Cameraguy, who were just the perfect pair. There was also Domenique and her friend from Government/Economics class. Of course, Brandon Wilson, Andre Caston, Austin Turner and Vincent Hardy, who never miss a chance to perform, were there. There were a few other people, but I can't recall them right now. Oh yes, I can't forget Dr. Martinez, Pricilla and Don Rob himself, who were keeping order and still having a good time.

      Now to the dancing...

Oh man, do I love to dance. I had my own little dance style going on which was quite contagous. Even Mr. Robinson and Dr. Martinez caught the fever and were "tearing it up." Miriam was kind of shy with her dance movements at first, but she got the hang of it. I even taught her how to partner dance. I'm not sure that I'm a great teacher, though. The music was mostly modern radio music, but not all of it was crap. Still, I danced, even to the stuff that i dn't like that much. I danced so hard that my legs were aching and my calves were actually mooing in protest. Dancing for four straight hours... man, it was crazy. There was was also a part where Norman blindsided me and rubbed his butt against me. That was... special. Anyway, I danced so hard that I didn't even realize that it was midnight and that the next morning, my upper-body muscles wuld be incredibly sore (wtf?). Even so, it was worth it to hear Mr. Robinson's comentary throughout the fashion contest and other such events. That guy cracks me up. Anyway, at twelve, the dance ended. Miriam and I said our final good-byes and headed out, where I passed by a water fountain and got my first actual drink since I got there. My mom picked us up, dropped Miriam off at her house and we went home.

So why am I late in posting this?...

Well, that actually capped off the whole wonderful evening with a cherry on top. As you may expect, on the car ride home, I experienced what most people would call adrenaline crash. It's like a sugar crash except moreso. It also tends to simulate drunkenness, as I discovered on Concert Choir's trip to Las Vegas. So it's more than likely that I fell asleep in the car. So when I got home, I got into my bed and went out like a light. It was here that I experienced an excellently vivid dream. I won't go into too much detail, but it involved Jedi, Halo 2, boxing and playing PS2 on a giant theater sized x2 screen with Mr. Lee telling me, "Wow, man, you're so screwed." I'll give you one excerpt from this dream: I was following Anikan Skywalker down a long tunnel in a Warthog, an armored jeep with a mounted machine gun, with Mom in the passanger's seat crabbing at me about my driving and one of her friends in the gunner's seat. Needless to say, it was a blissful dream and I would wake up nine hours later, just as blissful.

    • The time is now

      godofearth

Sometime today, I experienced something that turned my life around. It opened my eyes to certain facts that I had been ignoring and I realized that it was time for a change. For too long I've been completely stoic while things I can't stand have been going on around me. But now it's time for me to step out and be active. What happens in my own little world can wait. It's time for me to actually make a difference in other people's worlds. When tomorrow comes, you may see a very different me and in terms of the internet, you may see very little of me. My time has come.

I am timid no more forever.

    • Star Wars: Battlefront 2

      godofearth

I expected this game to surpass Battlefront 1 in every way, but I must say I was dissapointed. Not to slam any of the fans, but the game was so sub-par. Honestly, I would ask for my money back if it wasn't a Christmas present.

GOTCHA!! Seriously, how many of you actually fell for that?

Actually, the game does surpass its predicessor completely, not only in gameplay, but in keeping you in your seat wanting more even after the story mode is over. The story mode itself is much better and has an actual plot as opposed to being, "we're sticking you in a battlefield, so win." The Galactic Conquest mode has advanced as well, adding a Risk-like element to it. Even the instant action has improved, adding a large variety of modes to it. The designers added new excellent battlefields such as Mygeeto, Space (of course), Jabba's Palace and Mustafar, but removed some old favorites such as Bespin and Rhen Var. The Hero feature is also excellent, making so that the hero that you play as is powerful, but not invincible. Even the AI has improved, shouting out commands and acknowledging you for the exact class or hero that you are at that moment. Honestly, get this game right now. No seriously, go out and buy the game right now.

      Are you buying it yet?

lol Oh God, that movie. That takes me way back. Sorry to say, but that movie never really came together. It is officially vaporware. I'm still doing films, but they're a lot shorter and more manageable. Actually, I've got my own website now. Check me out at fishandcherries.com and see what I've been up to.

THe angel side of the costume came with wings, a halo, and a wand... and I ask myself, what the fuck does an angel need a wand for?! So... with the wings and the wand... I made my friend Justin a fairy.
