I went with my parents to the Finger Lakes (Central NY) where there a bunch of wineries. I sampled some red and fruit wines (dry wines...yuck) and then had lunch at a diner (It was called Connie's Diner). At this place, I ordered something called "the Quickie". It consisted of a cheeseburger and fries which were both slathered in brown gravy (seriously, I can totally see Grif ordering something like this...I have to believe that I would have made him proud yesterday smiley8.gif ). Oh yeah, I also got a vanilla milkshake (really thick one). Needless to say, I was stuffed after eating all of that and I napped in the car on the way back. Yes, Saturday was definitely a good day smiley1.gif .

As some of my friends here might have noticed, I haven't been on much lately (lately meaning 5-6 months). Here is a brief synopsis of what's happened since April:

At the end of the spring semester ( work in a library), the powers that be decided to go ahead with a major revamping of the entire library. We (meaning co-workers) all knew this was coming but weren't sure exactly when it would happen. The restructuring took almost all of my time at work and I as pretty tired (drenched in sweat and all sorts of disgusting tired) at the end of the day. I also went full stupid towards the end of the summer (over two months ago) and sprained my ankle at work (missed the last step because I wasn't paying attention and landed on my left foot...the one that missed the step...trying to balance myself). That really sucked.

On the bright side, I did convert three of my student workers over the summer to the joys of Red vs. Blue and they now watch it on a regular basis. We were all working on the evening shift, so we'd watch 4-5 episodes every evening during our dinner break.

On the weird side, we also found out that the library is haunted. I suspected it for some time, but the construction throughout the summer kicked up all sorts of activity. We were too busy to record anything but a bunch of stuff happened in the evening. I think it's primarily because our library was closed through the summer due to the renovation and not many people were in here. I'll probably make a separate journal entry for that. Whatever it was, the ghosts weren't malevolent so it never went beyond startling us from time to time.

Restructuring was moving and processing literally thousands of journals and books out of the library throughout the summer. These materials were going to an offsite storage area on campus. This was all done in a building that has little to no air conditioning and also in (usually) 85-95 degree temperatures (RTs who live in warmer climates will see this and think "that's it?"). Oh yeah, did I mention the dust? Lots and lots of dust. The library literally looks entirely different now than it did last spring. Construction work is still going on in here.

Now that things are more or less back to normal, I'll be able to post more regularly and I can continue working on my RvB story (which I've already been working over for a week now).

    • A sandwich fit for Grif

      grifisgr8

On Saturday, I made an Elvis sandwich for lunch (yes, this is an actual sandwich). It wasn't really planned, but I got a sandwich book from the library the other day and I remembered this one in particular. I had all of the ingredients, so I just said to myself "to hell with it" and made it. It really wasn't that bad. So what exactly goes into an Elvis? Well, here it goes...

-2 slices of toasted white bread
      -peanut butter
-most of a banana cut lengthwise and cut smaller so they fit onto the toast (I actually used about 2/3 of the banana)
      -honey
      -bacon

Ok, you toast the bread (duh), spread a good layer of peanut butter, put the banana slices on, pour honey on top of that and then add the bacon. I used only a few slices, but the book said The King put on as much as a pound of bacon on it.

So there you have it. A fairly tasty and artery-clogging sandwich worthy of Grif's gourmet tastes. smiley6.gifsmiley0.gif

I actually debated this with myself this morning since it's possible no one would believe me. I have posted the second chapter of "Where Rejects Dare" on RvBFics.com (under grifisgr8). Hopefully, three months won't pass by before I get the third chapter up.

We're doing a bunch of restructuring at the library, so I've been pretty busy this semester...more so than usual. This summer is going to suck because we'll be moving books/journals around on the upper levels. It's an old building (built over a century ago), which means that it'll be ridiculously hot up there and there's dust all over the place. Hoo boy, can't wait for my sinuses to go haywire. Oh well...

I bought a new car on Friday (will pick it up this coming Friday). It's actually the first new car that I've bought (all previous ones were used). It's a 2012 Subaru Forester. It's the baseline model (2.5x), but I really like it. I have a 2002 Forester, and I like this model because it handles really well in the winter. Very happy about this.

This was a few days ago.

I heard Rihanna's "We Found Love" song on the radio and I honestly thought she was singing "we found love in a homeless place" so I immediately conjured up images of someone falling in love in a soup kitchen or something.

You should play Halo in the middle of the night without the lights off for about an hour. Then when your done, turn the Xbox off keep the lights off and walk around, also make sure you can hear your breathing. You'll feel like a real Spartan because somehow you feel that your wearing the real armor. I've already tested this, it looked as if I had the helmet on to because I saw all the functions of the helmet right before my eyes. So give it a try.

I'm not on deviantart so I do not know.

But it also appears no one has read it to the full. These people keep on attacking, their idea is to drive every 'bad' artist off of deviantart, and then possibly expand to other sites too.

That is in no way, shape or form, right.

Also, once one of the Predators or Aliens died, wouldn't a flood infection form be able to take over the body? Win.

    • Warpek RTX Guardian

Haha, wow, I had actually forgotten about that conversation...

First of all, you mentioned the acidic blood and saliva. I wanted to bring up, however, that the plasma weapons the Covenant have are still pretty powerful. While it may not seem very strong in-game--specifically during a multiplayer match--plasma is very high-energy and can melt or burn through armor.

I certainly agree, though, that Predators are badass, but assuming that both Spartans and the Elites have the capability to utilize special abilities such as an overshield, even occasionally, would give them the upper hand.

Of course, there's definitely uncertainty when it comes to close quarter combat due to the specialties and weaponry that both the Aliens and Predators possess, but at the same time, Elites and Spartans are fairly skilled on their own.

I think what it boils down to is whether or not the various Halo species would band together to take out both of these enemies, or decide to fight separately. If the UNSC, Covenant, and Flood all fought together, I think Halo would come out the winner. I will admit, however, that my judgment is based solely on the belief that Halo would outnumber Predators and Aliens. If there were equal numbers on both side (like 12 Aliens vs 12 Predators vs 4 Covenant, 4 Flood forms, and 4 UNSC), the Predators would probably have it then.

Here is a good way to replicate Vegemite. First take some yeast and vegetables, mix it into a paste and allow to sit. After a day add a bucket of seawater and some tar, spread it over your toast. Take a bit. It will taste so salty and weird you have to have another bite just to be sure your tastebuds aren't lying to you and before you know it you've finished off a loaf of bread.

A grommit is basically a beach blonde surfie, so everything you'd expect. I can't believe how hard it is to get news of home over here although I'd have to accept that. The last time I was in Canada the only time I saw Australia on the telly was when they were covering a streaker at the cricket.

Yup, Handsmaid Tale is different than I expected. I love how detached the main character sounds, so dead and empty and then interspersing randomly with flashbacks of her past life. It's filled with dread and paranoia.

Hell yeah come to RvBTO, I wouldn't miss it for love, money or rock and roll!... I'm on an Elvis kick.
