    • time for a quickie...

      gruntfan

no not that kind of quickie you dirty bastards you!

anyways, time for a quick update. doing this from my dads laptop in the basement cause my computer still does not have working internet. my dad figured out that my computer isnt getting an ip address from the switchbox or its the wrong one. which is something i already knew, but he wouldnt listen to me. now comes the question of trying to fix that problem i tried a few things that were supposed to work but they didnt. also we called some tech line for the switchbox but got connected with some guy in india whom i could understand but my dad couldnt. that wasnt the problem of why my dad got pissed. my dad got pissed cause he hung up on my dad!

any who other stuff: im really pumped cause i got my ACT scores, and got a 28 (which i'd say is pretty good for not studying) i plan for a retake in october and am going to shoot for a 30. this got me excited cause i also took the SAT but those scores werent as good.

other school news, science olympiad state finals in two weeks WOOT! Yes I'm proud to be a nerd-herd. I'm hoping we do well, I took 2nd and 3rd in events and our team took 6th overall at regionals!

yet more news! Prom is coming up and have no clue how that will work. I most likely will not go to my schools prom cause Katie will be out of state for a horseshow. And personally going without my one and only to prom would be kinda awkward to say the least. so we'll probably go to Katie's prom which i think is in like three weeks. Which means i need to buy a tux and set aside some money for food. we'll probably pool our money together and get a limo too.
well i think thats about all i have to say about myself for now. kinda messy and filled with junk i know but i figured i do a little update for you guys.

BUT BEFORE I SIGN OFF THIS
I want to say how much my heart and and condolences go out to the families who lost loved ones, and the students who lost their friends at Virgina Tech in the school shooting that took place there this morning. I can't say how much sorrow I have for them and I hope that I never have to go through anything as worse as they are now. So guys and gals when you think how shitty it may be at your school, and how big of the jerks the people there can be, be thankful that you still have your friends and that something like this hasn't happened to you.

      That is all

    • TECH SUPPORT FOR A NEWBIE

      gruntfan

Yes I know I'm sure you're all enjoying the fact that I just called myself a newbie, but the fact is I need some help getting my internet back on my computer.

      THE PROBLEM
I have no internet on my computer duh you probably already figured that out.

      HOW IT ALL HAPPENED
We had a lightning storm last week and the weather was really shitty. After this really big strike of lightning my computer flashed an icon saying a network cable was unplugged. Obviously I knew that rumble of thunder didnt just unplug my cable, so I knew my internet was down. Turns out all internet, phone and tv in the whole house was down for the next day. Then a guy came and fixed it the next day. Everything else worked except the internet on my computer in my room. The cable is fine. The problem is I can't connect through our switchbox. When I plug in directly to the reciever it works fine (so does Xbox live so I know it isnt the cable) but when I plug my cable into the switchbox the stupid "network cable is unplugged" error icon keeps flashing. See my internet is setup in my basement. My dad's laptop hooks in there to the switchbox an so does our old pc running on windows 98. My cable comes down from my room into the switchbox. This worked fine before the storm but now it doesnt. Which doesnt make sense because my dads laptop still works fine connected to the switchbox.

Well I think that about sums up my problem. If anyone out there with experience of computers and networks or just anyone with an answer could help me it would be greatly appreciated. And of course when I say "greatly appreciated" I mean the first ten people to post me an answer will get 10 mods. Thanks guys.

what exactly I felt after watching this.

      Just Wow

    • Haven't been on in a while...

      gruntfan

Things have been kind of crazy for me and busy, so I haven't been on much. I said there would be some excess reading material for you guys so here I am! Let's see here, started going back to Tae Kwon Do again now that Christmas break is over. Turns out I had it the week before even though we had no school I didnt know and consequently didnt go, woops. Schoolwise: I've been talked into doing Science Olympiad this year, because for some reason people got the notion in their heads that I'm smart. Thats nice of them to say. Started running again to get ready for track. Which is just going to complicate my schedule even more. See I decided to do the year long thing of Science Olympiad but decided to drop to the backup team that gets done in February so I can get a job. I know in February I can get a job at my coach's greenhouse and thats really important to me. Mostly so I can make some money to get a car once I finally get my license. Yes I know I'm a loser, I'm 17 and I can't drive.

I told this all to Katie a little while ago when I called her. She just seemed kinda quiet and didnt say too much. I told her about my day when she asked and I asked her about hers and she said a few things and then told me she wanted to hang up cause she wanted to go watch a movie. Normally I call late and she doesnt want to get off the phone but tonight it was only 8:00. It kinda bugged me a little. The other thing that did was that her mom told me she went to go ride her horse when I didnt call her to come over. I didn't call because she told me the day before she wouldnt be able to anything cause she was gonna go riding. But then today she expected me to call to do something, I just dont know. I mentioned it to my dad, and he said it sounds like theres a little tension and I said no theres not and left it at that. I dont know, what do you guys think?

the mother of the family walked in carrying a big dish of steaming hot beans. The TV family of three sat around an oak table adorned with Christmas decorations, plates, and silverware. The family just sat there smiling in their matching Christmas colors as the mom set the brown dish down and started to scoop out helpings. Sally stepped closer to the glass, her breath starting to fog the windows. They were three seats around the table. One each for the parents and the third belonging to their young son who looked no older than twelve. Sally peered in with her eyes so much now that her forehead was touching the glass. Her eyes fixated squarely on the table. Sadly there was not a fourth chair. No chair for any possible older sibling. Any sibling who may have been missing out on the ridiculous feast of beans. She wanted to cry. The family, the three of them by themselves, looked so happy. The father and son each tried a sample of the steaming beans and smiled with delight. The mom tilted her head in that way beckoned you to buy whatever she was selling, as she held up a spoon of the beans and the brand name’s logo came on the screen and the commercial ended. She nearly jumped as the sounds of the downtown atmosphere rushed back to her. Her mind snapped back to reality and she tried not to shed any tears. Alas Sally could see no more and didn’t bother to wipe away the cloud of fog in front of her. She dropped her head slightly and stood there in front of the window display. And as she did so a man walked up and asked her,
“Hey there, everything alright?â€Â, and soon as he did so Sally was quick to snap,
“ Do I look like I need your help? Get out of my face!â€Â, the man took a step away and looked at her with disgust in his eyes, clearly taken back by her demeanor. He turned and kept walking in the other direction from her. Sally sighed and kept moving down the street. No, Sally was most definitely certain, she could not could back to her parents. To do so would only perpetuate the cycle of apathy she felt by continuing to forgive her parents. “Why do I even need to forgive myself? They’re the ones that need to forgive me!â€Â, Sally thought silently to herself. If she did go back it would just be another one of those times. The kind of time where Sally had felt the need to be adventurous only to be struck down by the hand of authority that was her “parents“. At least if that was what Sally was willing to continue calling the people who had raised her. No, how could she? The only thing they had been there for was to strike her down and tell her she was a failure every time she tried to do anything at all with her life. A painful wave of memories rushed over her. The first call from school, the first boyfriend, the first piercing, the first time she “tried†to run away, to name a few, they were all the same. Sally had been right all those times too, but she didn’t want to stick up for herself. Well now she was going to, and she would do things differently this time. Because if there was anything that certain to her it was that she would suffer the indignant reaction of her parents once more, just like she had all the other times in her life. And Sally had learned that deja vu was like an annoying dog that kept creeping up to bite you in the ass. The only question to her now was, how would she do things differently?

It was a cold night in the city and the wind bit at his skin. Jason crossed his arms together in a futile attempt to rid himself of the numbness. It didn’t really do much and by moving his arms, the icy cold feeling in them had crept back and made things worse. As he walked along the street, a speeding car came by and splashed him full of water. Drenched, cold and really pissed off now, Jason just wanted to get off the street. He walked a little further and then crossed into a dark alleyway. Jason did a quick search of the surrounding and decided that either it was too cold even for the bums in these parts, or that they were all sleeping in the dumpsters occupying the ally. A deeper side of him had to admit the truth that he still held sore memories of when things were better. When he had a place to go home to. A place that was warm and welcoming and decked in colors and beauty, not dark and dank; filled with rats disease. But the stronger side of him suppressed those memories once again and he tried to forget that place. It was a place but it wasn’t ever coming back. He rummaged around for a while and then found what he was looking for, a couple of torn cardboard boxes and some rags. He clothed himself in the rags and managed to set up the boxes in a way so he had his own little space to himself there in the ally. It wasn’t much and it offered little but adequate warmth from the encroaching rainstorm. Jason, now satisfied that he could relax for a moment’s time and sit back, did just that. He looked at where he was and laughed. Maybe there weren’t any bums here because he had scared them all away. He tried to laugh again but couldn’t. From an outsider’s point of view, Jason probably looked like scum sitting there in his alley, wrapped in rags and huddling behind boxes for warmth. But then that’s all there was anymore, he didn’t have any insiders in life to know the real reason why he was sitting there in that alley. Truthfully, Jason wasn’t even sure he himself knew that reason. Regardless, he pushed the thoughts of a better life out of his mind and embraced the reality of things. He was hungry. He reached into his jacket and pulled out a can. Tonight’s delicacy would be one of raw beans from the can. It was all he had and he was not willing to dig through the trash for scraps of other people’s discarded food. The can of beans would just have to do for tonight. Before opening it he reminisced on how the can had come into his possession. After a fruitless night of rummaging for food in more places than he could count, Jason had given up and visited a homeless shelter. He despised doing so, citing that he had chosen to cut off his former ties of needless dependence and chosen to live purely for himself. Coming to others for food seemed wrong to him and he did so with aversion. Reaching his other hand into his back pocket, he pulled out his knife and flipped out the blade. Clutching the can carefully with one hand he took his other hand and thrust the blade of the knife through the top. Jason was careful not to spill any of the juices from the can because the fact of the matter was this can of beans really was it and he didn’t have a beverage with him. Carefully like a craftsmen, Jason carved open the can and held it up to his mouth. The aroma of beans was unbridled joy seeping into his nostrils. Even if Jason did despise the method in which he had acquired the beans, they were still beans. And they would still taste all the same in empty and starving stomach. For too many nights he had tried to get a decent meal, a snack, a scrap, anything he could get his hands on. And now he did, perhaps this outlook he held didn’t have to be so bleak after all. But as this thought entered his mind, it quickly passed for the storm had picked up. A bolt of lightning blazed through the night sky and struck the metal staircase attached to the side of the apartment. The bottom tier of stairs shook and fell down, colliding with the top of Jason’s hastily made shelter. The already rain soaked cardboard ceiling quickly ripped allowing the pouring rain to gush in and drench Jason even more. “Oh for fuck’s sake!†The lightning cracked once more, and was followed by even heavier rainfall. Jason stood there in the rain, fresh out of brilliant schemes for the night and kicked his cardboard house aside. He looked up at the night sky, seeing the moon sheathed in wisps of clouds. “Bon appetite.â€Â
Sally as loud and obnoxious as she was still cared about her family even if it didn’t seem like they really cared about her. Shivering as she walked in the cold outside, Sally thought about her last words before she had stormed out of her parent’s apartment.
“I hate you! I hate all of you! God I wish I had never existed! It certainly would have made life easier for the two of you.†Sally was going at great lengths to anger her mother now. She picked up a set of plates and flung them across the kitchen, screaming as she did so. “I despise you. Every part of you is one more thing I hate about myself because I know it’s a part of me as well.†This last insult hit home like a freight train. She had done it. Sally’s mother stared at her with a deep gaze, her face blank with astonishment.
“Fine, go ahead leave. You don’t want to be here and I’m sure as hell not going to you hold you back, now am I?†asked Sally’s mother.
“No I suppose you wouldn’t would you?†Sally told her mother as she turned around and left the apartment, slamming the door behind her.
Sally cursed under her breath as she walked along the street shops. She almost considered going back up to her parent’s apartment and taking back everything she had just said and then she glanced into one of the windows. There was a multitude of TV’s each playing different things. The big one in the center seemed to grab a hold of her attention. On it was a commercial for some popular beans brand. Sally gazed with her eyes through the glass; watching the commercial a
