      School update.
Calculus sucks. So much so that I flunked Calc 2. It was so bad that I changed my degree to something less math intensive. I changed my major to Information Technology. I can still transfer to George Mason as they have a good IT degree and still come out with something from using my GI bill.

This semester is all the IT stuff. Easy A. At least I hope so. I thought Calc was going to be easy...........

Wow. has it been two years already? And have I taken this long to write something? Life moves fast when your married with children. You will see.

So I think the last time I spoke was Christmas of year before last - wow. Alot has happened. I went to my parents house in Louisiana and that was a blast . I ate gumbo everyday and pretty much ate like a big pig. Folks there are doing fine. My sister is still stuck in a FEMA trailer and mom is doing fine in here little house that she was able to buy. OH! I switch contracts. I'm finally able to get into some real computer networking and use my brain for a change. That other job paid the bills, but to be honest, it sucked. I'm so much happier. Folks that see me in the hall complement me on how happy I look. They also complement me on my wieght as I have lost another 10 pounds or so. (that is after the wieght I gained over Christmas) As a matter of fact, with the short hair cut and weight loss, some peaple think I'm actually still in the Marines.

My wife is now a realstate agent, but of course it is a horrible time to be one of those as nobody is buying houses. The kids are kids. My oldest is just starting to ride without training wheels - if she can just steer away from telephone poles and the neighbor's car............

I could be here all night but that's the short story. I'm still married, still got my job, and I'm still out of the CORPS! Ooh Rah. Or something like that.

    • Merry Christmas / Happy New Year

Hello folks. I hope everybody had a very Merry Christmas this year, I know I did. We went up to Cadillac Michigan and hung out at my In-laws house for a week. It was fun to watch the kids open up thier presents; not so fun watching them fight over the toys. All in all a good week.

This year, I resolve to lose 20 more pounds and to keep it off my getting back in shape. I also resolve to work hard to finish my associates and cut over to my Undergraduate studies at the end of this year.

      What are your resolutions?

The good news is - for the last 2 months I have lost 20 pounds and no longer look like a Navy Chief. I feel much better about myself now that my Vietnamese barber here in town doesn't yell out "when your baby due" to me anymore. I thought that Thanksgiving was going to ruin my progress, but so for it hasn't.

The Bad news - Things are sucking pretty hard back home in Louisiana. Mom and stepdad lost thier jobs for good. My Stepdad is legally blind and can't get another job. My mom is now recieving disablity for something and the job opportunity my sister was going to get was shot all to crap. The FEMA money is gone, the insurance money is gone, and the mainstream media has forgotten that many towns in South Louisiana are gone. But hey, at least we get to hear about f^*@#* New Orleans (which is still standing). Not that they don't have it bad - they do. It's just now you don't hear anything about Rita victims anymore.

Nail biting. The contract I'm working under is up for renewal. This is scary stuff. Right before the Christmas holidays, I will find out if I'm either going to keep my job, have to work for another company for less pay, or get laid off all together. Funsies. Though we may end up winning, but who knows. More on that later.

Whey any good news arises, I shall let all the good peaple on here know.

      See ya.

I'll have to catch up later.

Oh yeah, update on the crap in Louisiana - life is still sucking for them down there. More on that later.

    • My trip home.

As some of you might know, my hometown of Cameron Louisiana was directly hit by hurricane Rita. I was able to drive down for the weekend and go with my mom to salvage what we could before they closed the town off so that they could clear everything out. Niether words nor pictures can accurately describe what I saw and experienced. The place looks like somewhere in a third world country. Most of the trees have been stripped of all thier leaves and most of the grass is dead. There is a thick coat of mud everywhere you go and the smell of mold in the air.

There isn't much left of my mom's house. It was so destroyed that we could not find one piece of wood that could have been the house, in fact the whole neighborhood is destroyed. My mom only found a few small items, the rest was swept away by the wind and storm surge. To add insult to injury, the hospital permenently laid off a bunch of workers to include my mom. She had worked there for 16 years, but it didn't matter one bit. The only folks they kept behind were the ass kissers and the brown nosers. They did offer my mom a job cleaning laundry for half of what she used to make - more insult.

Right now they are staying in a house that somebody gave them temporarily and they seem to be doing ok. But they are tired of two things: they are tired of hearing about New Orleans and the Katrina victims, and they are tired of getting screwed by either FEMA or the hospital where they used to work. I would like to say that things will get better, but who knows. It's a really bad situation down there.

The local officials have shut public access to Cameron so that they may clear the whole town of deris, to included tearing down houses and clearing them out. I saw trucks from all over the country there helping to rebuild. The Arkansas National Guard is there and is doing a good job. General Honore is very well respected by the locals because he is a no non-sense guy and gets the job done. Police, fire and rescue teams, and power companies from Maryland, California, Minnesota, and even Prince William County Virginia were there and doing a great job as well.

If you have given to the Red Cross or any other charity involved in the hurricane relief effort, you don't have to wonder if it is getting to the peaple in need - because it is. Maybe not as fast and how much some would like it, but my mom and my Step father appreciate it.

I'm a loser - a loser of 10 pounds in 2 weeks! The only bad thing is I will have to buy all new clothes. But beats feeling like a pot bellied "old guy" and the paintball fields, or just feeling downright disgusted with myself.

Oh yeah, I'm using the South Beach diet.

Last Thursday night I came home and my told me that there was something wrong with the computer. What was wrong with the computer was that it froze up on her, and could not do anything with CTRL-ALT-DEL, so she turned the computer off after which it would not boot up. The boot files were intact, but it seemed that Windows could not see the rest of the drive. From what I can piece together, I have a hard drive with an 8 MB cache - which was enabled. Evidently part of the profile, or at least the pointers to the profile, were in the cache when she turned it off. Bottom line, I was able to recover most of the hard drive with checkdisk, but the home profile, to include 2 years worth of pictures is gone. I bought a new hard drive, installed XP on that and recovered what I could from the battered partition. I blew the whole partition on the old hard drive and created another - which I'll use as a secondary back up. Mental note: BACKUP YOUR DATA!!

So you worked on the Presidential Helicopters eh? Nice. My grandfather flew Army One back when he was a pilot. He flew for Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Nixon. My father sat in their chairs a few times when he was a kid. :P My dad said that Kennedy Jr. would sometimes sit in my grandfather's lap when they were flying which I thought was kind of cool. My grandfather died many years before I was born though which is kind of sad because I would have loved to know him.

Hello, looks like another Marine in the midst. I was a helo mech as well (H-1) in Atlanta, got out about 5 years ago. Back into it now (again) working on Hueys, live in Fredericksburg, and just trying to make it through the winter (I HATE the cold).

      Best to you.
