Okay, I haven't have the time to do anything on here until now so here's a short thing just to make sure you still know that I'm alive. Monday we go to San Diego, so I will have not access to the internet from then until Saturday or Sunday, I can't remember. In anycase things have been going good and I've been having fun. I'll try to leave a somewhat detailed journal about things that have gone on since I left after I get back from San Diego. Talk to you all later.

    • This is going to be a long one.

Well I have a lot to cover in this journal starting with computer related things and going onto me possibly not being able to get on here for about 6 weeks starting later today.

Well, the company that I friend of mine, boshimi336 to be exact, works for was getting rid of a bunch of old computers and parts and such. Well, he grabbed me a few things so now my room is full of computers that I'm trying to find the best parts of to use for a single decent computer. None of the parts are exactly good, but there not too bad. Okay they are, two of them are PII running at 266 MHz if I remember right and the other is a computer that he had, I think it's a straight Pentium running at 100 MHz. The 400 MHz Celeron that I have is still beating them, for the most part, so I'm just going to scrap parts of them to make it better. The fan connector on one of the PII's looks like it has been burnt a little and well it has been burnt a little. Another case that is grabbed for me so I would have a possibly working powersupply that put out more than 150 watts of power had a motherboard in it that has caught on fire and guess where the power connect for the CPU fan was. Yeah that's right, on the edge of the burnt part. The powersupply still works though, and puts out something like 235 watts, so I was happy. The one thing that annoyed me about what he grabbed for me though was a couple of Travan-4 tapes. Yes, you read right, tapes. The catch, he was able to get me more of them, but not drive for them. So, I have enough tapes to back up 48 Gigs of uncompressed information and 96 Gigs of compressed information, but no drive to be able to actaully use them. If anyone knows someone that has a Travan-4 compatable tape drive that works that's they are willing to give away, please tell me. I would like to be able to back up all of my documents on something other than a CD-R or RW since I have many Gigs of them and I don't have a DVD-R/RW drive so it might be cheeper for me to just get a tape drive for the tapes.

On another computer related note, that same friend grabbed a 733 Mhz PIII for himself and I've helped him getting up and running the way he wants it. Well he was having major problems trying to find a video driver, so I took it for a night and pulled the video card to find out what is was so I could look for a driver. Well, needless to say that thing is the biggest video card I have ever seen:
      video_card_2.jpg

If you will look below you will see it's about as long as the case is and the case isn't exactly small either:
      video_card.jpg

Oh and to add to it, the two hard drives are on a SCSI array, the floppy drive is on an IDE connection, the motherboard has power connections for both AT and ATX powersupplies, it has an extended PCI slot, and uses Rambus RAM. I'm sure there's more I could go one about, but that's all that I remember of the oddities of it. It turned out that the video card wouldn't work with a racing game he has, so his girlfriends dad gave him a GeForce2 card that didn't work with the HP computer he tried to put it in. I went with him to get the video card and I put it in for him. It works with the game so he was happy, then we found out that he couldn't use his stearing wheel because his computer doesn't have a game port on it. I gave him one of the sound cards he gave me, so that problem should have been solved.

Anyway, as to the me possibly not being able to get on for 6 weeks. I'm attending the same summer program that I attened last year. Last year I had some access to the internet and was able to get on here some, but I don't know what it'll be like this year. I may not have the same level of access that I had last year and I may have more. I realize this is really short notice, but I'm actaully leaving for it today. If I am able to get on I don't think I'm going to do what I did last year and leave short journals, poorly covering everything that I had done since I had last updated. If I do what I have the option of doing and come home for the weekend before the 4th or July then I'll leave a journal about what will have happened so far. That's about all that I can think of, I hope I'll be able to get on here again soon and if not soon, I hope that I won't have too much to go through to catch up on everything that everyone has posted.

    • A Few Things to Update On

To start the integrated LAN on my motherboard died about two days ago for no apparent reason. So, I'm now using a Linksys card I picked up today, which means I had to use the far out-dated LAN card that I have for my Linux machine if I ever get the thing running. Continuing with the computer problems, I got a hold of a copy of American McGee's Alice and FF8 yesterday, but I can't get either of them to work on my computer. Alice keeps giving me a message about not being able to find the CD-ROM and to please insert the correct CD and restart the application. Well, I've tried both discs and I still get the same massage. I tried everything that EA has on their website about the problem and it still won't work. FF8 just goes into a continous loop of playing the opening credits and not one of the standard buttons to stop opening scene will work. I haven't taken the time to look up ways to fix that one yet, but I'm almost to the point where I don't care anymore it's pissing me off so much.

On another topic of complete crap, boshimi336 has something in his journal of interest to those of us who aren't rolling in money like big businesses. It appears as if the larger communications companies are trying to gain complete control over the internet. This link will take you to a site called Save the Internet that gives more details than I could give and this link takes you right to a form that is part of a petition to keep a bill from passing in Congress that would give communications companies complete control of the internet. Which means that means they would be able to block all the sites they want, cause some sites to load slow, and more. Please pass this on and keep companies from gaining complete control of the internet.

    • Long time... no update

      jihp10

Well, it's been long a little too long since I updated and I'm no longer sure of what has happened since then. I know for sure though, the track season is over and I have three days left of school. Along with that, because the way my school is the seniors have already graduated, so in two of my classes there are only 4 total students left. I'm going to be having another Halo 2 party at my house, but this is going to be more of a graduation party for boshimi336 than anything else. His parents won't let him have it at his house, so it's taking place here. It's going to be interesting to see what happenes. I have about two weeks off then I go off to the same summer program I attened last summer so I'll have very limited access to a computer with internet for 6 weeks again. Then today we had a storm roll through that cuased lightening to strike three times somewhere really close to my house. Surprisingly, the only electronic devices that were damaged by it was two of our three land line phones. Well it did more than damage them, it killed them. So we only have one land line phone in the house that works right now. That's all that I can think of at the moment.

      EDIT, May 31:
There is this really cool thing in boshimi336's journal about our troops. Here's the link to it, I don't do the repost thing so I decided to link to it instead.

I now fully understand why it was that she broke up with me. It's a slightly complicated thing to explain, but it makes sense to me, so I'm just going to go with it and see where things go from here. Other than the fact that we aren't technically "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" nothing has really changed between us. So enough with that, on to other things. My school has this thing called Excellence in Education where the top 15 people from each class get to go to the local hospital and take a tour of a certain part of it. Then they go have lunch and get awards and they are excused from the rest of their classes for the day. Well, I was in it for the 3 year running. I took a tour of the IT side of the hospital and let me tell you, holy crap they do a lot. The are the ISP's for all kinds of other hospitals and doctor offices in the area and they personally maintain the systems at the offices if need be. They don't buy most of the programs they use, they write them. They have written programs that other hospitals have bought from them to use and they have a spin off company that is working on more. And that's not even scratching the surface. Let's just say it is freaking awesome. After that we went and had lunch and recieved the awards. Since I didn't have to go to class, I went with my ex (okay I'm going to start calling her by name, calling her my ex jusr doesn't sound good), Michelle and our friend Clara to the park. We ended up swinging for a while then sat around talking. It was awesome, to bad every day couldn't be something like that. Anyway, track has been going okay, but they have had to cancel two of the meets because of all the rain we are getting and I have a track meet tomorrow that probably won't be cancelled even if it is raining and just above freezing. The school that is hosting it makes too much money off of it to cancel it. Then Wednesday I took the AP Chemistry Exam in the hope that I will get some college credit for it. All I'm going to say is that the multiple choice section was easy and the free response section sucked horribly. I'm still hoping to get at least a three though. I'm hoping I will get lucky and it'll only be a little drizzly tomorrow during the track meet, but it's not looking good. So I'm planning for cold and wet weather...IN MAY! I know, it's the Upper Peninsula, it happens. I guess I should feel lucky though, some place in the eastern U.P. had 7.5 inches of snow today.

EDIT: I really should start using paragraphs, it would be easier to read that way.

    • Follow up on the last journal.

Well let me start by thanking DharkXero and labs for the congrats. And continuing with the fact that, it's only been two days but I think I'm already past the mourning period. It's really weird, I realized that if I didn't just let is go and move on I would be feeling depressed for who knows how long and I could loose her as a friend too. That and their is just something about her that not only made my like her in the first place, but also made it so easy to go back to the way I am when I'm single (a massive flirt at times). Heck, today at a track meet I was sitting by her talking and it felt like we were right back to the pre-relationship ways, well it did to me at least. I can't explain it, but hey it works so I'm not going to complain, I still have her as a friend.
Whatever happens from her will happen. I think I'm going to stay single for a while and just have fun with it. Last time I was single I was too up-tight about it and it sucked. I think, though, if I just relax and go about it not constanly thinking, "this sucks" I should be able to make have fun with it. The most I'll do it flirt, but hey that can be really fun.
Anyway, DharkXero the end of your comment on the last journal was awesome. labs I'll be sticking to the idea that things happen for a reason, because I believe things do happen for a reason. And boshimi336, I'll try to remember to talk to you about that idea.

    • Hmm... Two Major Things to Report On

      jihp10

Well after a crazy week last week I had some time that was mostly used to relax on the way down to Lansing, well technically East Lansing. After we got there the rest of the day was pretty much spent bsing to pass the time. The next day we went to the State Science Olympiad Competition. Two of the four events I was in we completely bombed. One of the others we did decent in, taking 16 or something out of 48. The remaining event we, being boshimi336 and me, took 6th place in and that is that last place that got medals for events. We could have done better, but either way we still got the only medals out of all the teams from the Upper Peninsula that went. So we felt pretty good about that. Overall minus one thing that I'm going to cover next it was a good weekend.
The other thing that I have to report about is, well, rather sucky. To be straight out, my girlfriend broke up with me Friday night when I called her. I didn't think about it at all on Saturaday so it didn't affect my preformance any. But on the bus ride home I couldn't get it out of my head and it's been bugging me all day. She's not the kind of person to lie, heck she's Catholic so lieing is really not something that she would do, so I know the reason she gave me is at least part if not all of the reason why she ended it. It wasn't because she wanted to go out with someone else so I'm not mad at her or anything. I just don't know what to do at this point, I really like her so I want to be with her, yet at the same time I don't want to lose her as a friend so I won't push to try to get her to go back out with me. If it happened it happened for a reason, whatever the reason may be. Everythime I go through a break-up that I didn't want I go through this mess of confusion, sadness, and extreme loneliness. (Being a romantic really sucks sometimes) I'll pull out of it and continue on with my life, but there might be a few journals left that is nothing more than an emotional rant until then, just so you know.

Oh and boshimi336 do me a favor and don't go around talking about it, I don't want people coming up to me and telling me they are sorry and all that other annoying stuff.

    • No hate in this journal title

      jihp10

I haven't updated in two weeks or so, so I figured it was time I did. To explain the title, I noticed that my last to entries have been "I hate..." so I figured that I wouldn't have an "I hate..." title again. I did go to that Halo 2/birthday part over my Spring Break and it was a good one. I crashed pretty early though, so I missed a lot. Other than that the only thing I did besides homework over my break was go over to my girlfriends house one night. It started out with her, her brother, her cousin, one of our friends, and me sitting around a fire in her yard. Her cousin had to leave early and then is started raining so the other guy left because he rode his bike there. Since we couldn't sit out by the fire we ended up playing a game on the only game system they have. It was the original Super Mario Bros. on the NES. After I left the week became a blurr of boredom and school work. Then there was the week of return to school. I had a track meet on Wensday and that's about all that happened for the week. Then to my surprise, two weeks to the very day that I took the ACT, my ACT scores show up in the mail. I got a 26 on it, I don't know how good that is by other people's standards, but I've been told that it's pretty good. I still think I could have done better though. The weirdest part about it is that I didn't have answers down for three of the questions on the reading part and I got a 28 on it. For the rest of it I got a 24 for English, a 27 in math, and a 26 in Science. I probably could have done better on the English part, but oh well. I know someone that was accepted into Michigan Tech with about the same score so I'm not worried about taking it again. I have a week that is going to go by way too fast for me coming. We leave for the State Science Olympiad Competition on Friday and I have a lot of work to do before then, including a book report that is due on Tuesday. If nothing big comes up before I go to sleep on Thursday night, my next update will be at the earliest of Sunday the 30th. If I really felt like it I could go on about more things going on, but I don't really feel like it.

On a note not very unrelated to what I last said, does anyone know of an easy, legal, and legitimate way to make money from the internet?

    • I hate ACTs

      jihp10

Well this week is Spring Break for me, but I have a lot of school work that I'm going to have to do during it. The only thing that happened last week worth even mentioning is that I took the ACT Saturday. The first day of Spring Break and I'm sitting same class room that I'm in for American History at 8 in the morning. The only thing I could think of was "what the hell am I doing here?" Then we started and I realized how much I hate them. Fourty-five minutes for 70 english questions, sixty minutes for 60 math problems (could have been about ten minutes less though), thirty-five minutes for 40 reading questions, and another thirty-five minutes for 40 science questions. I could have used a couple of more minutes for the science part, but I definately think people should be given more time for the English and reading part of it. Even as little as 5 minutes would have helped a lot. I hope I'm not going to need to retake it because that sucked. After that I was pretty much a vegetable for the rest of the day. Now I might be going to a Halo 2/birthday party tomorrow and I have no idea what else is going on for the rest of the week.

    • ...I hate trying to think of titles...

      jihp10

Well it's been about two weeks since I last left a journal. Not much has happened either. The boot drive in my Linux machine started to crap out and the only way to fix that is to go Russian on it, only I wasn't thinking and did it while it was on. I ended up corrupting the data in the boot sector and now I can get it to reinstall even after a reformat. Well it's actaully just the install program giving me crap. I'll eventually get it to work again. Other than that, track has been hell on my shins and ankles. (We should be getting on the tack Monday or Tuesday so it won't be too bad anymore) Also I started to get sick Tuesday night I think it was, and after going to bed a little earlier than normal for the next two nights I'm starting to feel better. Well as of right now I'm feeling better. There was also the Michigan standardized tests that I had to take this week, but those aren't worth talking about. The only thing that I can say about them is I got screwed over, next year Michigan is giving the ACT as their standardized test so the students get it for free and I have to pay for it. That's all that I have for the past two weeks that comes to mind. Well that's other than that Neoma is really gone now. She deleted her account so I'm not expecting to see her back. She'll be missed.
