    • I have a college!!!!!!!!

I've been accepted to Michigan Tech University! The one college that I actaully wanted to attend. No offense to the rest intended, but that is the place I've been hell bent on getting into since I discovered how much I enjoy working with and on computers. I'm so freaking happy right now, I don't know what else to say. Oh this is so freaking cool, now I just have to worry about paying for it. But right now I don't care about that, I got in and I don't have to worry about it anymore.

    • Real Update

      jihp10

Okay, time for the real update I promised. Well to start, I'm now done with the first two weeks of my Senior year in high school. So far things have been good. I got the problem with my schedule worked out, but doing so meant that I had to drop Trig. But I got the class I actaully wanted though... Calc. Yeah, I've skipped Trig and went straight to Calc. I've also been spending time with the exchange students we have this year. I know of 4, but there could be a 5th that I don't know about. Well, I've actaully only been hanging out with three of them, the fourth one I know about just got in last night and I haven't just met her as I was typing this out. A friend of mine that's been hanging out with the exchange students a whole lot this year, just brought her over to met me. So, we have two Austrain girls, one Korean girl, and a girl from Indonesia this year as exchange students. They all seem pretty cool so far too.

I have three classes this year that are pretty hard overall and the other 3 are for the most part really easy. I'm not liking Honors English 12, but I'm just going to deal with it. Calc and College Physics, as it's now called, are going well and I'm liking them so far. The other classes are trivial, so I'm not going to bother bringing them up.

I thought there was more but, that's all that I can think of at the moment, if I come up with more later today I'll add to it in an edit.

    • Busy... not a real update

      jihp10

I've been really busy the past week and I will be this week too. I'll try to leave a good update about things this weekend. If not, I was either really busy again, my brain had a melt down, I went crazy, or something along those lines happened.

    • Finally, my own personal file server.

Well, before I had to go to Indiana I started to try to make a new Win 98/Linux dual boot system because the last one I had died on me, plus this one is a lot faster than the other one was. It's only a 766MHz Celeron, but it's a big improvement over 400MHz Celeron I had before. Well, for some reason I kept getting all kinds of errrors and such that prevented the install from happening. Well the day after I got back I tried again and after another error or two it finally worked. I discovered that it's not much of a dual boot system though because the boot loader can't find the Win 98 install on the second hard drive. That doesn't really bother me though, if for some reason I want to use Win 98 on it I'll just open it up and move the IDE cable. With it working I then decided that I was going to do what I had originally planned on doing with a Linux machine when I got it working. I turned it into a file server.

Well, that it's self had a bunch of problems. First after getting it all set up right the network folder wasn't appearing on my XP machine, then when it was I couldn't access it, then I couldn't write to it. So, after deleting it all and trying again two or three times with all the same problems, it finally worked yesterday. I was worried that it wouldn't work again, but today when I turned on my XP machine, the Linux one having already been on for a while, the folder was there and accessable. Only took me two or three days and a lot of confusion, but it finally seems to have worked. Now I just have to figure out what to do with the rest of the working computers I have in my room.

    • Back

      jihp10

Well, I'm back from the little trip I had to take to Indiana. I made it back alive and in one piece physically, but my mental state is a little questionable at the moment (not something I want to get into). I finally got my class schedule for school, but I'm not happy with it. I already called to ask about it and apparently there have already been many changes in some peoples schedules that they had nothing to do with and I just need to wait for the first day to find out if I'm one of them. So, all I can do it wait for the 5th to come around to find out if mine was changed and if so, hopefully in the way that I want it to be changed.

    • Temporarily Away

      jihp10

I'm going to be away for 4 or 5 days starting tomorrow (Saturday). If I do get any access to the internet it's going to be through a dial-up connection, so it's very likely that I won't getting online much if at all. If I do get online, it'll probably just be for e-mail and/or IMing. Just letting all of you that read my journals know.

    • That was fun

      jihp10

Well the LAN party went pretty well. We only finished two games of StarCraft this time, but it was still fun. The first game I was on the winning team that wasn't a team when the game started, and the second game I was the last one to die, but that's only because I was Terran and kept flying my command center around and landing and making a new base. One of the two guys left got tired of chasing me around the map so he turned against the other guy. That left me enough time to build a small force that held out for about 5 minutes before dieing, then I just said forget it, I have no chance at this point and let him take my command center.
As with any and every LAN party there are problems that came to be. One of them was one guy not showing, but considering that he probably ditched us for weed, forget him it was better without him. The other problem was that one of the best computers that I had for others to use wouldn't connect to the network and I couldn't figure out why because I had had that computer online through the NIC in it just the day before with no signs of problems. Well, needless to say we found out today that it was the network cable that was the problem. For a LAN party we had surprisingly few problems.
Now I have to get my computer back to my room, along with most of the other computer stuff I have now. Which means I'm probably going to have to rearrange and clean my room. Not to mention that I have to rearrange the basement again. Oh well, as this work I have had to do and have yet to do, has been worth it.

    • Hmm... no idea what to title this one

Well I finally got all 254 pictures that I took on my camera, plus one disposable camera, uploaded onto a Photo Bucket account. Not matter how good or bad the pictures where I put all of them on there. Here's the link to it if you want to look at the pictures. It takes a really long time to upload that many pictures, even on a cable internet connection. Well other than that I haven't done too much since I got back home. The first Friday I was home I went to boshimi336's house for a small StarCraft LAN party. We played three games in 6 or 7 hours. I took the first, don't remember the second, and I set up the third game and for some stupid reason put the computer in it, lets just say the computer destroyed us all. The next day, which is the same day we went to sleep on, I had my senior pictures taken. Then Monday I went to Michigan Tech for a campus tour and I now know for sure that that is where I want to go to college. Other than that, I've been playing around with computers pretty much the entire time. Actaully just today I dicovered why two of the six computers in my room were being given away. I had never bothered to check them before, but I now know that they are pretty much dead. Oh yes, and I also discovered why OS/2 didn't make it anywhere. To put things rather simply, it sucks terribly. That seems to be all that I have for this journal.

    • Major Update After My Return Continued

      jihp10

This is the continuation of my update. Please read the previous journal before this one.

That brings me to Thursday. We rode the trolleys out to San Diego State University and took a campus tour, nice college but not the one for me. Then we rode the trolleys to Old Town San Diego where we visited this tourist trap thing, but I just sat around with some of my friends in the shade of a tree waiting for dinner. I ended up staring at a dragonfly that was on the limb of the tree I was under for about an hour or more. I don’t know why but it was really entertaining, not to mention relaxing. Then I had to get up and go to dinner, but it was worth moving. I had the best Mexican food I have ever had that night. I don’t remember what I ate, but it was absolutely mouth watering. I could have eaten at least plates of what I had it was so good. I would have been feeling sick after I was done from eating too much, but I wouldn’t have cared the food was so good. I kid you not, I could have died right then and then and I wouldn’t have cared, because I would have died extremely happy.

Friday, we went to the so called “World Famous†San Diego Zoo and this really cool science museum. The science museum was fun and had a bunch of really cool things in it. One that I remember the most is that they had a machine that made small tornadoes that could be stopped by nothing more than a slight breeze, it was really cool looking though. After that is was time for the San Diego Zoo, which for being “world famous†I was a little disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a wonderful zoo and has some really cool animals there, but I just didn’t walk away as satisfied as I feel I should have. That might have something to do with the fact that they had some exotic tree there that was flowering, which I found out I was allergic to. It was no more than just a couple of seconds after I walked by the damn things my voice disappeared. I spent the rest of the day barely able to talk. After the zoo we went sight seeing for a while. It was peaceful and pretty relaxing, so I was happy with it. After that we went to dinner and from dinner we went to a movie. Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man’s Chest to be exact. It was a good movie, but I wasn’t able to stay for after the credits like I recently heard you should, so I need to see it again so I can stay to see what’s after the credits. If you like the first one, then I suggest to go see the second one. After the movie we went to the airport and hung out there, sleeping, talking, or whatever, until we had to get ready to bored the plan. After that, we got on the plan, flew to Chicago, separated into the groups that we had to travel home with and went home.

One thing that I have not yet mentions is what my group built in robotics. After we built the first thing, which was an individual project that we got to keep, we got into groups and build Lego Robots. Well, my groups was a head of most in our abilities with Legos and the programing of the robot. So we were given the directions for one core part of the robot, which happened to be a pincer, and we had to build out from that. We ended up making this weird tracked thing that looked like a scorpion with one pincer and tracks. Oh and it also played part of the song “Iron Man†the entire time it was running too. It was one sweet robot.

That’s all that I can think of and this thing a really freaking long already, so this is the end of my massive update journal.

    • Major Update After My Return

      jihp10

Well now that I’m back from San Diego I actually have enough time to make and leave a journal here. The program went very well, I had a lot of fun and caught up with friends I made there last year, not to mention that I made many more. The first weekend of the program we went whitewater rafting, ropes course climbing, and camping at the same place we did last year, heck they go there every year. The river was pretty low so the rafting could have been a lot better, but the rope course climbing was just as good as always. They have this thing called the corporate ladder on the basic ropes course, which is supposed to be the hardest course on it that they have, but I found it to be really easy. Then they have this separate thing that is just a much larger and harder version of the corporate ladder that leads to what they call the birds nest. Well I made it up that one too and the only reason someone else made it up it was because I helped them up it. I heard someone say that it take two people to get up it one time, but I could have easily gotten up it twice by myself. While I was in the middle of climbing up part the harder corporate ladder I had a thought pop into my mind that a few people completely agreed with. That thought was pretty much, “I’m a freaking monkeyâ€Â. I ended up trying to help another person up it, but he didn’t have the upper body strength to pull himself up to a position where we could move on, so we just said forget it, getting up to the top of that by yourself isn’t very gratifying. The last night we were there they had the pendulum swim again, which is nothing more than you swinging from a wire that is suspended between the main ropes course and the birds nest. Even though it is a really simple concept, it is still really fun and best if you do it at night.

The next weekend was family weekend so I came home for that, but I was doing homework pretty much the entire time, so I didn’t have time to get on here. When I wasn’t doing homework though, I was at this place called the Up North Lodge having my early birthday dinner. It’s not a Lodge anymore, but the food there is amazing and my neighbor is the manager so my dad got her have the cooks make a special birthday cake for me. Let’s just say that the cake would have been gone when I got it, had I not been so full from the ribs that I had. That’s about all the happened that weekend, but that week, when it was my birthday on the 5th, pretty much everyone at the program started singing happy birthday to me at dinner.

The next weekend we went to the Great Sable Sand Dunes and some waterfall by Munising. The sand dunes a blast. There is a rather large bluff that you can climb down to the shore and the view on the way down and at the bottom is amazing. The hardest part is climbing back up, which I did with my camera hanging off my side in it’s case. Keep in mind, this camera weighs probably about 4 or 5 pounds and when you are trying to climb a pure sand bluff a couple of hundred feet high, that’s a lot of weight. I made it up pretty with no real problems, but I had to help one guy up and the same girl I helped up the corporate ladder had a minor asthma attack after she got back to the top. We got her breathing right again so she was fine. I had a lot of fun with it though and I would easily do it again. The falls that we went to were very underwhelming though, we were suppose to go to a much larger set of falls that I can’t spell, but people don’t fully understand natures beauty so the voted to go to the smaller, closer ones. It was still worth the entire day it took to make the trip though.

The next weekend was study weekend so nothing special happened then. We went to a beach for probably about 4 hours though, and I forgot sunscreen. Needless to say, I got burnt. But, for about an hour or two I wasn’t in the water and somehow I had sand or something on part of my back. So, what ever it was blocked out the UV rays and prevent that part of me from getting burnt, creating this really weird looking white spot among red on my back. It looked really weird and was actually pretty funny. That was about all the happened that weekend that I remember.

The next weekend was spent cleaning and packing for our Monday departure. Nothing of interest that I remember happened then. Then we spent the day traveling and arrived at the Emerald Plaza Hotel in San Diego sometime that day, I don’t remember when though. Let me just say, if you are ever going to San Diego and you have the money, stay there. The lobby alone make it worth it the cost. When I can I’ll try to get pictures of it up. The next day we went to the San Diego Wild Animal Park. It was pretty cool and I don’t have any real complaints about it. After that the same day we went to a bunch of museums, none of which where very interesting. That night, went to a mall for dinner and shopping, but I didn’t but anything but food or drink the entire time I was in San Diego. The next day we went to my favorite part of the entire trip, the USS Midway. That thing was awe inspiring and one of the coolest things I have ever stepped foot in or on. We didn’t have enough time on it though so I didn’t get to see everything, but in an attempt to see as much as we could we go lost on the second deck. With the help of the RD for the program, who was also lost, we found our way out and got back to the rally point just a couple of minutes late. The rest of the day was entertaining, but not really worth mentioning.

For some reason it's not letting me post the full journal in this one so I'm going to continue it in another journal post.
