People love to talk about how great spring is! "It's symbolic of new life! All the flowers start to bloom!" Well you know what blooming flowers bring? Pollen. And pollen lives to attack me in my face. Fuck spring, give me winter back

      Sincerely

For two or three weeks now I've been able to sustain my double bass control as high as 140 beats per minute. HOLY FUCK THIS FEELS SO GOOD! Especially when the last few months I had been struggling to maintain control at 120. Results man, they are the shit.

    • My first RT birthday!

      joeymoller Lets Go Ducks!

So today is what I consider my real birthday here on the site even though I first made my account in 2012.

One year ago, as everyone knows, Monty passed away. I had been a fan of RWBY from the very first trailer and found the show, particularly the music, to be rather inspiring as an anxiety ridden musician. His passing hit me really hard, which was a surprise for me. I've been a fan sense I found RvB back in like '06 or '07 and I had been big into everything RT and AH had done for years, but mourning someone I never met was an odd experience for me. None of my friends are into RT like I am, so finding people to talk to about this required that I look out side of my normal friends group, so I logged on to the RT site to, for the first time, not watch a video.

Fast forward 12 months, I've got a small close group of friends I talk to on a regular basis, I've been to RTX, came in 2nd place in the RT dynasty football league, and I survived the great site reboot of 2015! It's been a great 12 months, and though I am busy playing in 3 bands and trying to start a recording studio, I want to try to be a little more active here again, there are more awesome people here that I need to meet!

It seems like my phone, an iPhone 4s, has died. It was in my pocket, running a podcast, I unplugged the headphones, and when I pulled it out of my pocket to turn the podcast back on, nothing. It won't respond to any of the buttons, or to the charger cable. There is quite a bit of data on there I don't want to lose.

I've got one last trick I'm trying that involves me just waiting and trying to keep my mind off of this shit storm. If that doesn't work, guess who's emptying his bank account?

    • On Paris

      joeymoller Lets Go Ducks!

Today Paris was turned into a battle ground, but only one side had combatants. Today we were shown what happens when fear causes a group of people to be marginalized, and what happens when the extreme version of that group strikes back. Today we saw, again, just how far religious extremism can push humans into the realm of violent, heartless monsters. Today 150 or more people were butchered for no good fucking reason.

This was a senseless and horrific act of violence that I cannot even begin to fathom. I've seen a lot of people talk about this too and talk about what should be done. A common theme has been what should be done in response to this attack. Of course, and understandably, the most common answer is wipe ISIS out. The problem is that there is no place to go to get ISIS, they operate all over the place (ignoring of course the fact that wiping them out would be genocide). And here is where my crazy, and probably wildly unpopular, opinion is formed.

      Let ISIS become a country.

If they actually become a state, all of a sudden they will be pulled out of the realm of guerrilla combat and terrorism and into the global stage, and the rules of global relations. If these fighters came from a country or were recruited by a country this would be an act of war. They would be invaded tomorrow and to their detriment. This ISIS country would also need trade, and could be crippled by countries refusing to deal with them at all. If the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was just that, a state, they would not be able to do this, not with out heavy consequences.

To step back out of the hypothetical, I'm worried for what is going to happen next. France and Europe in general have been feeling like Muslims have been trying to take over their countries, and have penned some...questionable, legislation in response. This attack has not just fed this fear, it has mainlined steroids into it. Ideally the government of France and the various governments of Europe will deal with the situation at hand, wait to decide on what, if any, legislation should be passed and decide on that with cool heads. But that is so unlikely that I might as well ask the sky to be blue white and red. I have no idea what the worst case scenariois here, but I do think I can say pretty confidently that I know who loses in all of this (outside of those who were killed of course). The Syrian refugees.

Running for their lives, bounced all over Europe, distrusted, hated, and literally kicked at some times, these poor sods have been the source of speculation for a long time. Everyone suspects they have ISIS people hiding amongst them and I'd be willing to bet that these people get fucked again and are the first to feel the backlash of this event.

There is no good conclusion to this essay really. These words do nothing more than manifest my thoughts. I have no practical solutions. Even if the world let ISIS have what it wants and become a state that doesn't help or change what happened today. 150 people are dead, many more are have been wounded and the death toll is likely to rise. All that is left to say is that I send out all of my love and support to the survivors of this horrifying crime against humanity.

    • I am finally feeling passionate about music again

      joeymoller Lets Go Ducks!

This year had been nothing but a nonstop disappointment from the standpoint of my music career. The band I have been in for almost two years has basically taken the entire year as a hiatus, the band leader is in denial of that, and on top of that does not think he does not take suggestions on how to address these things, he doesn't think he can be wrong. So all of this year I have watched as this band gets all of its talent wasted by the leader with total control.

So I branched out and joined every band I could. I went from being in one band to being in 3 in about 2 weeks. The indy band I joined is fun to play in, and helps me think about the way I approach my instrument differently, but I doubt they'll go far. I joined an old singer songwriter friend, she's young with lots of talent and potential. But I don't like her music and she's a little unorganized right yet. I really enjoy these side projects but it wasn't what I wanted.

But today, goddamn today. I joined a melodic metal/ Symphonic metal band by the name of Silence of Sirens and I am fucking excited again. After some miscommunications between me and the band leader and a little bit of roughness there, I finally got to play with them and see how they all work. For the first time in a long time I enjoyed a rehearsal and I am looking forward to the next one. Everyone works well together, there aren't clashing egos, and there is nothing but passion and dedication in the rehearsal studio.

The past few months I have been questioning my decision to go into music and if I really want to carry on, but now I don't feel that way. My drive and passion are back!
