    • College Final Decision

Well, the final letters are in and I unfortunately did not get in to Tulane, Washington, or UCLA, but that doesn't matter because I am now committed to the University of Texas. Couldn't be happier. Well, maybe if I had like a Reese's I would be happier, but other than that, my decisions couldn't have made me happier. UT Class of '17!

It has been some time since my last update. So on the school side of things, I finally finished my first semester of senior year. I finished it with a 4.1 which I am very happy about. In college news, I haven't really received updates from the other four schools I am waiting on, UCLA, UT Austin, UW Seattle, and Tulane University, which should all be coming in about a month. In sports news, Track season started, and after a great start to practice this season so far, I have been hit with an injury that will hopefully not keep me out of competition for too long. I tore my oblique muscle, which because I am a jumper, high, long, and triple, will affect me a lot. I really hope this doesn't ruin my senior year of track too much. I was also invited to an invitational next week I really hope not to miss. In gaming news, I am 2 achievements from getting 100% in Halo 4, just the warthog jump and the Mantis stomp achievements. Far Cry 3 was one of the most amazing and beautiful games I have ever played, the freaking Broncos franchise tagged my player in Madden 13, and the Mass Effect DLC won't play for me unfortunately, but overall, gaming is kicking ass. So yeah, that's my update.

I am happy to say that I have been admitted to several schools already. Among the schools I've been admitted to so far are New Mexico Tech, University of Alabama, Arizona State University, Oregon State, and today I got new that I got admitted to Rutgers University! Now it's just a waiting game for the other 5 schools I'm applying to, University of Washington, Tulane University, UCLA, Stanford, and University of Texas. smiley0.gif

    • Senior Year

Finally, I'm starting my senior year of high school! Looking forward to the benefits of being the big man on campus.

This past week, my high school football team wen to Ireland where they won 27-17, beating one of the top teams in the nation coming out of Arizona.

Thanks to the football team, the entire school has had off since Thursday, making for a relaxing 5 day weekend. I started off the break with some Moneyball, which was an awesome movie making one rethink the order of sports and how things can be calculated as opposed to simply felt. The following day, after a 2 mile run, I ended up watching the movie Contagion. That movie has the weirdest cast ever, filled with random people including Ross's dad from Friends, Morpheus from the Matrix, and Dimitri Martin. At one point in the move, Matt Damon, the main character, called someone in the movie, and almost on cue my own home phone started ringing.

In other news I got my first college acceptance letter from New Mexico Tech. They seemed very excited to have me when I visited them about three weeks ago, and now I've already got an acceptance letter from them. Looks like I'm going to college for sure now, although hopefully I can get into a bigger school. Among the other schools on my list are Stanford, UCLA, University of Texas at Austin, Arizona State University, Oregon State University, University of Washington, Rutgers University, Tulane University, and Alabama University.

    • College Trip 2012

I just returned from an awesome trip with my pops, traveling along the south, visiting the schools I am considering. I flew from the Bob Hope Airport, with two connections to get to Birmingham, Alabama, then drove over to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. That school was awesome! Tons of space, yet not too spacious, a nice city/town nearby, a cool Rec center, and an Awe-inspiring football stadium.

After that, we drove down to New Orleans, Louisiana to visit Tulane University. It was amazing to see how well they were able to fit their campus into the crowded spaces of New Orleans. The campus was perfectly spaced out, almost to a small-city feel.

Then we flew over through Dallas/Ft. Worth to Austin Texas to visit the University of Texas at Austin. The campus was gigantic! Took us about 3 hours to tour the entire campus. The football stadium was also really cool, especially because the tour guide let us onto the field, that I got a video of. The only thing that was bad about the place was the way traffic flowed in Austin. My dad and I had trouble finding our way through the city since we had to lean to navigate the freeway/highway thing that Austin has going on. Also the one way streets proved to be a worthy adversary to our navigating skills. While there though, we managed to find Bacon as recommended by the RT Podcast, which was awesome.

After that we made our way to Socorro, New Mexico, about an hour south of Albuquerque, NM. It was in the middle of nowhere, but the surrounding environment was gorgeous. The campus was tiny though, almost as small as the high schools around here. On top of that there wasn't much to do around Socorro. On cool thing (or not so cool thing for a guy like Joel) was that the highway patrol cars were Dodge Chargers.

The next day we flew over to Phoenix, Arizona to drive on over to visit Arizona State University at Tempe. The campus was also pretty big, one square mile total. Even with all that space, the campus was well built, with a lot of cool buildings, my favorite being the Computer Commons where tons of PC's and Macs were being set up. Even though it was 108 F, it felt really cool surprisingly. If anyone ever visits Tempe, look around for a place called Fuzzy's Taco Shop, they make some awesome tacos and sandwiches.

I saw the Dark Knight Rises today and I must say it is probably one of the best movies I have ever seen. The amount of depth the movie has makes it amazing. It was truly crazy to realize by the end of the movie that close to 3 hours had already passed. Normally with a movie that long I will occasionally check my phone for the time, but this time I checked not even once. The big question for me though is will there be a second series? One on Robin maybe?
