So its the summer, YAY? I'm workin out at some gas plant in the middle of nowhere (50km from the nearest paved road) and making money for my hopefully triumphant return to school. I decided to drop out of Computer Science and switch over to Business (keeping the Comp sci as a minor). I figure this will give me a bit more of a chance to get into the game industry without ending up being somebodys code monkey...I hate coding. Anyways the main purpose of this jurnal entry is to gain me enough Karma so I can post forum topics on how much I hate forums...until then...then (I know that doesn't sound smooth but I'm kinda drunk and don't care).

Currently at my University there is an official Dodgeball league with over 1400 members. Its a good time albiet a little dangerous (get a couple college level pitchers in there and you'll get the idea). I was wondering if any other campuses or organizations have anything similar setup?

-_n case anyone was wondering the League (called the LDL) was started by a student with a couple friends over 3 years ago and since then has "grown" significantly.

It has been an exciting couple of weeks around campus. For the first time ever I actually care about the outcome of a sports game. Why, you ask would a professed nerd and geek care about such a thing? It is because for once I'm actually an contributing member of the team. This is no ordinary sport its the LDL (the lister dogeball leauge). Thats right on campus dodgeball is a recognized sport. This year the leauge had over 1400 hundred particapants. I was on a team of 30 and we somehow managed to scrape our way into the finals. In finals something miraculous happened...we got our shit together and owned some N00b face! Thats right after a near elimination we made a come back and seized the championship cup in a flurry of matrix like dodging skills and sniper like throwing abilities. Truly we are cocky bastards to be hold. But this is well earned for now we are champions.

      Dodgeballwin006.jpg

After a brief cheap liquor fight we passed around the trophy and drank from it. (thats me up there)

-I have tasted victory...it tastes like cheap champagen which is actually pretty good, if not tangy.

I just want to say to all those who particapted in the LDL this year good games. And just as a note to everyone the LDL existed over a year before the movie dodgeball came out so yeah, don't poke at the originality.

I just got offered a full time making a rather large amount of money, do I take it drop out of school and go live life in the fast lane, or should I stay in school and persue my dream of being a game designer. Even though If I did make it as a game designer I'd be paid less than I would doing this job, I guess the question comes down to what is success? Happiness? money? A really really Fast car? the hell if I know.

-feel free to offer your opinion, I guarantee I will mock it, though matter how well construed or valid it might be

They had the memorial for the 4 slain RCMP officers today, oddly enough right where I live...well across the street from me (lister center) in the butterdome. It was quite the sight to see thousands of fully uniformed RCMP walk along the street where I walk to go to school. To know that the head of the government was in the lobby where I chew down breakfast everymorning was also quite a humbling thought. and lets not forget the snipers that were on the roof of my building...well that was actually a little disconcerting. I wonder where they were when cretien got pied. Either way it was a fitting service for 4 officers who died for thier country as heroes. Let us hope that thier deaths were not in vain and some change...some action will come from this tragic event.

Ok I haven't lived in my home town (Whitecourt) for any length of time since I moved out of it almost 2 years ago. Now the whole place has gone straight to hell. I mean holy shit in the last year alone theres been 3 cases of arson (2 houses and a huge ass church were burned) and now theres just been a fatal shooting about a half an hour south of the town that killed 4 RCMP. One of them was from Whitecourt, what the hell is happening in the rural community these days, and when was the last time anyone heard shit like this happening in the city? man really makes you think...

Update: my high school science teacher just got charged with fraud and removed from the town council...yep to hell in a handbasket

Ok this is a plee to anyone who sees this entry, if you have read life of pi at some point and remember enough of it to make a decent plot overview and you can do this before tuesday and post it somewhere I will give you a full 62 mod points...thats right 62 mod points for this one act of scholarly kindness

Oh just as a side note, if you have some advice about how I should have actually read the book and do my own work, keep in mind I've apent most of the previous week and the last 20 hours consevutive trying to get a dynamic search engine up and running for comp 115 so yeah the risk of "crazy-bastard" negative modding exists if such comments are made...

UPDATE: found a decent plot summary...w00t and well now I used half my mod points following an irrational grudge but hey thats what thier there for right?

    • Why UPN must die

I'm usually a pretty reasonable guy, I'm always the one who prevents the fight at a party by talking everyone down and reasoning with even the most drunken agressor. Personally I don't believe in violence, but UPN has gone beyond all reason they've crossed the line from being a mild irratating annoyance that I have to deal with everytime I decide to watch one of thier many syndicated shows. What syndicated shows you ask? well there was angel, but wait they cancled that, and even I a die hard angel fan can handle that the show was a made for a niche audience of sorts, so I could understand and even comprehend why they decided to axe it despite the sadness I felt.

But now, now they have decided to cancel another show...what show you ask a show that had grown and shows amazing promise and has not yet reached its full potential...Enterprise. Thats right once again startrek facing a cancelation. Totally unjustified cancellation, everyone likes this show and for good reason, sharp writing and high production values, you just don't find those two elements in sci-fi anymore (with one or two exceptions). Well UPN you've awakened a the angry nerd that is at the soul of every trekkie such as myself and man he wants blood.

Which brings me to my next point...if your a nerd, a geek or even a socially well adjusted person who happens to enjoy the odd episode of startrek we must rise up and stop this coporate monster from destroying one of the few remaining decent franchises on tv. Write a letter, throw a brick, start a riot, protest or at the very least visit www.saveenterprsie.com and sign the guest book or something.

As for me I'm grabbing my baseball bat of reasoning and heading over to UPN to "reason" with them. If that fails I'll take the old fists of justice and mess them up something freaky. Thats right UPN you now have an angry disenfranchised comp sci student with no money after you now! Yeah I'd be scared too!

[link=http://karma.ljuhome.com/archives/2004/12/red_vs_blue_cha.html] This is actually really quite funny, saw it on someone elses profile. I'm a sarge by the way. Sorry but given the chance I would deliver 10 megatons of fiery justice on Arnold's republican ass!

Well wasn't that fun now its back to coding, google watch out my homemade search engine may be horrifically unstable and inaccurate but I'll sell it to microsoft and they'll use it to put you out of business!
