Well, I did up the internet advertisement last night for our previous house, we're trying to sell it privately at first and I found a website called Real Estate Guide, for a modest fee they list your house on their website and provide you with a sign, which is all we wanted. They're reviewing what I uploaded and will hopefully provide me with a link for the ad this morning sometime. All fingers and toes crossed for a quick sell!!

My friend Gabi had her baby last night I am SO excited, this is my first close friend to have a baby!! Oliver (love that name, so cute!!) weighted in at 3.66kg and is doing well. I can't wait to go buy cute little baby presents and go visit!! And of course I'm not at all clucky ;o) Nah seriously, Matt and I still want to do a bit more travelling and spend a bit more money yet!!

Just heard about Heath Ledger, dead from a possible drug overdose. What a sad sad waste of a talented young life....... My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Started moving into our new house on the weekend, each time we make a trip there we take the doggies with us so that they can start getting accustomed to their new home - I think they'll be ok!!

    • Anyone want to buy a house??

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!! Ours was fantastic and hot hot hot - a record breaking 44 degrees celcius on Boxing Day (about 111 degrees fahrenheit for those in the US) and slightly less than that on Christmas Day. Thank goodness for air conditioning!!!

Anyway yesterday we signed all the documentation to buy Matts late brothers house, picked up the keys, and will be moving in within the next week or two!! As soon as we got the keys Matt and I drove over there to have another look, and we starting working out where all our furniture is going to go, which was quite exciting. First thing we did though was checked that the air conditioner worked - it looks brand new and its a beast, it had the main living rooms/kitchen cool in minutes which is great!!

And hopefully since we'll be living closer to the telephone exchange we'll be able to get broadband back again hooray!!

So we have to try and sell our house as soon as possible. We need to do a little bit of maintenance once we've moved out and moved the dogs out but hopefully it won't take us too long. We're going to try selling it privately at first to save ourselves $10-$15K in real estate agents commission, which is just ridiculous!! So we'll give that a go and if we don't get any bites we'll go with a real estate agent - but we'll at least try for a private sale first.

While the circumstances of why we are buying the house are still upsetting, its still quite exciting and also Matt and I are certain that it is what his brother Mark would have wanted. This first Christmas without Mark has been very difficult for Matts family but everyone pulled together and supported one another and we think Mark would have been very proud. Miss ya buddy xxx.

      ****

So what is everyone doing for New Years?? This year we've actually had about 4 party invitations but I really just can't be bothered - I think we'll probably spend it packing. Must be getting old.......

Had my big work Christmas party on Saturday night - it was awesome!!! We had it at AQWA, formerly known as Underwater World - basically its Perth's big aquarium. What a brilliant place to have a function, we had pre-dinner drinks in the underwater tunnel with the sharks and the turtles and the stingrays and the fishies swimming all around us, then we went into our function room for a big Christmas buffet dinner - the food and drinks were fantastic. After dinner and a wonderful dessert we headed to the dancefloor where we boogied the night away until closing.

This was just the first of many Christmas functions I am going to this year. Next Wednesday, my work is putting on a big (free!!) Christmas buffet lunch in the staff canteen for everyone, it happens every year and its usually pretty awesome. Then on the evening of the 15th is the Christmas party with all the girls from my gym. On the 16th my department from work is going to Elmars in the Swan Valley for lunch. Then on the 21st everyone in my department is bringing in a plate of food and we're having a big lunch together here.

Thats what Christmas is all about - food, food, and more food!!!

Here are some choice photos from Saturday night -

      ChristmasPartyMattKerin.jpg
Aren't we the good looking couple?? How spunky is my husband in his new suit??

Me and my friends Erica and Denise, having our drinks in the underwater tunnel.

      ****
I also had an awesome day on Saturday even before the Christmas party - I got to ride on a Harley Davidson Fatboy (same model Arnie rides in Terminator 2) for the annual motorbike charity run for the Salvation Army. More about that when I get some photos through from my friends.

Just a quick update on what's been happening recently. Things have been hard since my brother-in-law Mark passed away, I still think about him every minute of every day and miss him so much. It has given his family some comfort though to know that Matt and I are buying Marks house, he was so proud of his house when he bought it but had barely moved in before he died. I think Mark would be so pleased to know that Matt and I will make his house a home, and that one day his little nieces/nephews will be running around playing there.

It is a fantastic house though, Matt and I had another look last weekend and we're getting really excited about moving in. Hopefully we'll be in before Christmas but there are a few complications that might draw out the whole process, but our fingers are crossed.

We're also planning to go back to Thailand for our one year wedding anniversary - while we vowed to stick together through the good times and the bad, we didn't realise that life would throw the worst thing ever at us pretty much immediately - so we haven't had the best start to our married life. Even though the loss of Mark has probably bought us much closer together as a couple, its still been a very difficult and upsetting time, and we've missed out on that happy excited newlywed period. So, we'll go back to Thailand for our one year anniversary, and start things afresh. Sounds like a plan!!!

Went to the Muse concert on Saturday night - they totally rocked!! It was f*cking awesome. Here is a quite good review from the Perthnow website.

IT'S amazing how much fun you can have listening to tales of doom, gloom and the impending apocalypse.

While conspiracy theories, corruption and the downfall of humankind might be their lyrical subject matter, Muse promise there is still time, there is still a chance and redemption is just around the corner. So ultimately you can sing along to the fact that "time is running out" without feeling the panic rising.

In fact there was a happy-go-lucky friendly vibe at Supreme Court Gardens as the UK three-piece kicked off their Perth show with the authority-blasting Take A Bow.

The trio were delayed after the barrier at the front of the stage reportedly collapsed and had to be replaced.

Weather-wise conditions couldn't have been more perfect. There was no sound stealing breeze blowing off the river and the balmy evening was warm without being apocalyptic hot.

Perth last saw Muse only nine months ago when they performed a jaw-dropping set at the Big Day Out. And if anything Muse's own show is even more impressive with stunning visual effects, fabulous sound quality and excellent musicianship.

The band are widely considered one of the best, if not the best live act in the world, with a plethora of awards to attest that fact. It is certainly clear why and there was little doubt that Muse were the best live act to blow into Perth since, well, probably Muse.

Hell even Justin Timberlake, who was busy doing his thing over at Burswood Dome was probably wishing he was there. After all JT famously declared his love of Muse when introducing them at the 2006 MTV European Music Video Awards.

The only thing that was slightly lacking during the band's two hour performance was banter with the audience. Still if Muse come to convince us to "fight for our rights" then perhaps a slight distance helps give them the air of authority they would like. As usual it was drummer Dominic Howard, sitting behind his reverse, left-hand drum kit who did the talking. Frontman Matt Bellamy is said to speak too quickly for anyone to understand, a fact many claim is an offshoot to his musical genius.

Of that genius there is no doubt. Muse's imaginatively structured songs are a whirling blend of classical music, science fiction and progressive rock. As a result Muse are something quite unique in a world of uniformity.

From Time Is Running Out to Hysteria, Starlight, Supermassive Black Holes and closer Knights Of Cydonia Muse maintained a powerful pace throughout the concert continually enticing more and more people to move forward for a better view.

As the words "you and I must fight to survive" faded from the screens and the crowd stopped chanting along as a mass of guitar distortion took over the sound waves, there was a feeling of satisfaction that the apocalypse was still some way off.

      Aussies desert MySpace for Facebook

      22nd October 2007, 6:30 WST

MySpace, the website that redefined the meaning of friends in cyberspace, is showing signs of fatigue, with latest figures indicating that Australians, or at least hip ones, are deserting it for rival Facebook.

Although one in three Australians visiting social networking websites still goes to MySpace, its market share has dropped 5 percentage points.

Facebook, meanwhile, has increased its share threefold in the 10 weeks to October 13, according to figures from Hitwise, the company that monitors internet traffic.

Visits to all social networking websites have more than doubled in that time. The reason for MySpace’s drop in share could lie in the survey’s startling finding that mums and dads keen to ride the social networking wave are turning to MySpace.

“The people that tend to go there now are more like middle Australia,†said Tessa Court, Hitwise’s head of marketing. She said Facebook was where more of the “thought leaders and influentials†went.

Launched in 2004, MySpace allowed younger internet users to express their individuality by creating profiles. They could link to other sites and create a network of friends. It quickly became the most popular hangout for teenagers on the web.

Rebekah Horne, general manager of MySpace, said more pages were read on MySpace than any other site in Australia and that rising membership figures showing it had 4.2 million members proved it was just as popular as ever.

      ****

I have recently become suckered into the addictive social networking website Facebook. I've actually found quite a few people from high school and some long lost friends on there. Message me for my details if you'd like to friend request :o)

    • To Buy or Not to Buy

      kermat

      That is our quandary......

Matt and I have some serious decisions to make, and soon. We've been offered the opportunity to purchase Matt's brother's (who passed away recently) house. He had only just bought it, and between coming to Thailand for our wedding and heading back to India for his next swing on the oil rig, had only spent about 5 nights there. His girlfriend is still living there at the moment but the house was 100% in his name and she cannot afford to buy it on her own, so Matt's dad and stepmum are currently covering the mortgage and handling its sale.

There are factors for and against us buying it. Factors for include - its an actual house as opposed to our current place (townhouse), so its got 4 bedrooms and a huge backyard, with a shed. Its in a great location, almost directly opposite some shops, and its closer to the beach than we are currently. The extra room would be great for when we have kids in a year or two and also the big backyard would be fantastic for the doggies. Factors against include - its a lot more expensive than our current mortgage. Our place has definitely increased in value since we bought it, so I suppose the next step is to get it appraised, then speak to a mortgage broker. It would probably mean we wouldn't have much $$ left to save to do more travelling, and it might mean a bit of a struggle when I have to stop work to have kids. Also, our current place was brand new when we moved in less than 2 years ago, and has 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets, this place is pretty old, it has a new kitchen and fairly new floors, and the paint job looks pretty recent, but its only got 1 bathroom and 1 toilet, and the bathroom is pretty old. Definitely livable and we could maybe make it a project to re-do the tiling etc etc, but I quite like having 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets at the moment!!

So anyway, unfortunately we don't have the luxury of time to consider our decision being as Matts dad and stepmum are paying the mortgage and so need to sell the house as soon as possible. I wish someone could just tell me what the best thing to do would be..... I don't want us to commit to a mortgage that we can't afford, but if we don't buy it will we regret it down the track??

I suppose first things first - get our current place appraised, and speak to a mortgage broker.

      Markshousefront.jpg

October is crazy birthday month - my brothers today, my mother-in-laws on Wednesday, Matts next Monday, mine next Tuesday, my mate Matts next Wednesday..... January/February must be fertile months!!
