After afew days of "intense" training (skills in this game are uploaded to your brain through a neural interface) I finally got the ability to fly a frigate, instead of that crappy n00b ship that I've been flying. I had a 125 mm railgun installed, as well as some sensor jamming equipment (since my character specializes in electronic warfare). I also bought a mining beam, some afterburners (which increase your ship's speed), and some cargo space extenders. Up until now, I've been wandering the central part of the galaxy in search of work (usually courier jobs), but I've finally decided to settle into a system and start a mining operation. The nearby asteroid belts are rich with valuable minerals and are completely deserted most of the time. One of the many advantages of living in a quiet corner of the galaxy, I guess... Pirates do pass through the system occasionally, but as I found out yesterday, I can easily destroy them without taking any significant damage.

Just 3 days of gameplay have already convinced me to buy a 50 day game card...... If there are any other EVE players reading this, my character's name is "Eric Kirby", just incase you want to talk to me for any reason.

(Note: If you did not understand anything that I have just said, just PM me and I would be happy to explain.)

As you may or may not have noticed, I haven't been on much recently. That's mainly due to the fact that my life has been completely swallowed by EVE, a SciFi MMORPG. I read about it on the CAD website on Saturday morning, downloaded the free trial, and the next time I looked at my watch it was 9 PM. I actually spent my entire day playing it. I didn't eat lunch, go outside, or move at all. I just played the damn game. Moving on, the people I met are very nice. They actually think that being a n00b is something that you should "enjoy while it lasts". One person even gave me 600,000 credits, (which is enough to buy several ships) after he heard me say I was poor. Most of the people who play are hardcore role players, and I admit that it takes some getting used to, but after you do its actually quite fun. Aside from the vast complexity of the game, I would have to say my favorite part of the game is the existance of stargates, which act as interstellar portals (located in space) that transport you and your ship to other solar systems. I would give a more in depth explanation of the game, but I don't want to get anyone else addicted......

I woke up this morning to find that my neighborhood was still covered with a blanket of a mysterious fluffy white substance. Even though it’s sunny right now, the mysterious white substance has remained as white and fluffy as it was yesterday. I don't know what it is about snow that's so fascinating to me.... When it started snowing yesterday, I actually wanted to (this may shock some of you) go......out.......side. Yes. Outside. And do all of those snow related activities that I had never been able to do since I've spent most of my life in a Japanese tropical paradise. Then I realized that most of the fun snow stuff that I wanted to couldn't be done alone and required other people, so after standing in the snow for five minutes, I went back inside. *sigh* One of the many disadvantages of not having any friends..... At least the snow is fun to look at..... On a more positive note, I don't have any school today, my mom has been rendered unconscious by the ultra fluffy pillow that she got for her birthday yesterday, and I can basically do anything that I want (in my house) without being yelled at. Oh, and I just got a beta of Microsoft Office 12, which (in my opinion), is very awesome. Only the basic programs have new UIs (user interfaces [the nice shiny thing that you click on]), but the other programs (Publisher, FrontPage, etc) make up for that with an abundance of new features. I will now demonstrate how awesome the new version of excel is by showing you a shiny new graph:

      pie.jpg

Bow before the clear, crisp pie graph! BOW! *evil laugh* Ahem. ............... As you can see, I'm very bored. Very, very, bored....

I spent most of yesterday experimenting with Premiere, Photoshop, and the "Adobe Title Editor", and I eventually came up with the neat little video which you can download below. After I finished the actual video, which turned out to be 214 Megabytes after I rendered it for the first time, I spent the rest of the day trying to compress the damn thing. Unfortunately for me, the only reliable video codec that's embedded into Adobe Premiere is "Microsoft DV AVI" which renders everything at nearly Hi Def quality, which takes up 2 Megabytes for every SECOND. After I lowered the quality some, I realized that the file was still too big, so I ran it through another video converter (hence the Lo-Res version) and compressed it (Hi-Res version, see note below). It's just a test video, so I would appreciate any questions, comments, and any CONSTRUCTIVE criticism that you may have.

      News_0001.jpg

      Low Res (6 Megabytes)

      High Res (52 Megabytes)

Note: In order to upload the High Res version (which was originally 174 Megabytes) so that all of my wonderful fans could enjoy it *cricket noises* I had to compress it using a program called WinRAR. If you're a PC gamer, you probably have WinRAR already, since most downloadable game maps are compressed using WinRAR, but even if you don't I recommend that you download it. Not only does it compress files very well, but it also allows you to explore CD image files and .CAB files.

I've had the program for a few months now, but when I first got it I thought that it was too complex and I uninstalled it. However, when I decided to start on my Red vs. Blue Season 4 project I realized that the current program that I was using (Windows Movie Maker) was lame. I reinstalled the program afew days ago and ever since then, I've been obsessed with it. It looked complex at first, but once I started using it and starting playing with all of the filters (and other stuff) I realized that the program wasn't very hard to use. Now I can't stop using it. I just keep making more and more videos. First I finished the HiDef Rvb Season 4 project, then Season 3, and now I'm working on Season 2. I JUST CAN'T STOP! Somebody please help me....... smiley3.gif

Btw, if you want to watch the weird RVB PSA thing that I made, you can find it here. smiley0.gif

Last Saturday, I went to Best Buy and bought the Iriver U10:

      IMG_2317.jpg

which, in my opinion, is the best MP3 player ever. It has a built in FM tuner and FM recorder, it can play music (duh), watch video, record voice, play flash games, and view pictures. Also, if you look at the picture, you can see that it has no buttons. How is this possible? Well, all you have to do to navigate the player's menu is push down on the black frame around the screen. There are also several buttons on the side (volume, power, etc) that you can't see in the picture. One of those buttons is the "perspective" button which allows you to change the orientation of the screen:

      IMG_2320.jpg

The player can hold 1 gb of data, which is enough for my entire video collection and afew episodes of stargate. smiley0.gif One hour of compressed video takes up about 100 mb, so that means that player can hold a maximum of 10 hours of video. It has a lithum ion battery which (supposedly) lasts for 32 hours, and it charges when you plug the player into a USB 2.0 port. The only downside to this is that you have to buy an AC adapter seperatly.

Later this year, Iriver plans to start selling the U10 cradle, which has built in speakers, built in Line In/Line Out ports, and a built in USB cord so that you can connect it to your computer. It also comes with a remote:

      iriver-u10-2.jpg

On the top of the cradle is a snooze button, which can be used in conjuction with the player's Alarm Clock feature. Just in case you are considering purchasing one (you know you want it smiley0.gif ), it comes in 1 GB, 512 MB, and soon they will release a 2 GB version. The 1 GB costs $250, the 512 costs $149, and the cradle (when released) will cost about $50. smiley0.gif

Yes, but the Daleks were created by a chap called Terry Nation and he retained the rights to them - he's dead now, and his estate were reluctant at first to let the BBC use them.

Similarly, the Cybermen were created by Kit Pedler and Gerry Davis. I dunno if they retained the rights or not, to be honest, but they still get credited as the creators.

    • PetersonZF

Very true. They had all sorts of problems trying to get the rights to use the Daleks, and they were lucky they didn't run into similar issues with the Cybermen.

Showing the head in Dalek was kind of like saying to the fans, "don't worry, we've secured the rights to use the Cybermen".
