This is why I want to help out my friend. And this is why I am livestreaming this Saturday.

    • I rarely do these, but I am asking, can you please help?

      kriss Community Manager

There have been a couple times where I have mentioned a good friend of mine and her health struggles, and in my most recent update, she has informed family and friends that she is now diagnosed with colon cancer. She is also five months behind on fighting it because her doctor moved practices and he did not get her the results of all her tests until recently. RAGE. So right now she and her husband have left Vegas to continue her treatment in Cleveland.

I first met Shelly in 8th grade. When we reconnected about five years ago, I had the pleasure of hanging out with her and her husband, and I was so happy to see that she had found happiness and love. She has always been in physical pain in her adult years. She's had multiple transfusions, surgeries, illnesses etc.. due to her lack of an immune system. A year after we had reconnected, her husband unexpectedly passed away and seeing her mourn and break down was one of the hardest things I ever saw. She's my age. People shouldn't have to say goodbye to their loved ones so early in their lives. Years later, she found love again and I was able to see her get married this time. After all of this, Shelly has been an amazing positive force and she is always encouraging and supporting others. She was just told she had colon cancer and she was out voting and telling others to do so because she gives a damn about what happens to her country. Her husband has never left her side and he has cared for her and her dogs since I met him. They are one of those couples who can give you cavities via their facebook posts.

It pains me to see them like this. And I want to help them. They set up a gofundme to help with medical costs and I would like to help contribute in any way I can. It's no secret that I absolutely abhor Bloodborne, but I managed to beat it last weekend and now I am on New Game +. I will play Bloodborne for as long as I can and livestream it for your entertainment (apparently seeing me rage and fail is pure gold to some people), and I humbly ask if you could donate anything, even if it's a dollar, to Shelly's page.

I will set up the livestream for March 5th and play until I can't anymore. If I can help generate even one dollar on Shelly's page to help her fight cancer, then playing a game that wrecks me to no end is completely worth it.

You can find my livestreams here: www.twitch.tv/geekyfriedrice

I will start the livestream at 9am PST

To anyone who donates, shares this on their social media accounts, or joins my stream to keep me company, you have my eternal thanks.

Thanks for reading yet another wall of text I wrote. Less than three you guys.

I don't believe these guys get enough of a following here, but there is a community group called BIGBITE and they feature a lot of community related content. They're doing stuff with @Becca and you all already know how awesome she is. If you're an artist, you may want to pay attention to the wall of text below:

Original post can be found here.

BIGBITE group can be found here.

      Original post by @jxdalton:

By now, I'm sure that you've seen Becca's efforts to bring fresh, non-video content to RoosterTeeth.com. Well, community artists, I have the privilege of being the first to tell you about Fan Art Fridays! Every Friday, Becca will be featuring some fan art made by a member of our community!

But how do I get my art featured?

Well I'm glad you asked. That's where BIGBITE comes in. After all, featuring content created by the community is what we do best! We're partnering with Rooster Teeth to run a weekly contest to get your art on the front page of RoosterTeeth.com!

      So, here's the rules:

      • Upload your fan art to this thread. Feel free to add a title and/or caption if you'd like.
      • Need help uploading images here? CLICK HERE.
      • Entries must be received by Wednesday, 3.2.2016
      • The top 5 modded posts will be selected as finalists (read: GO TELL YOUR FRIENDS TO VOTE!)
      • The winner will be selected by BIGBITE and/or RT staff.
      • Winner's art will be featured in Fan Art Friday on RoosterTeeth.com, and featured in the following month's issue of BIGBITE Magazine.

If you have any questions, shoot me a message.

Good luck, and we'll see you on the front page!

      Sincerely,

      Joe Dalton

    • I couldn't sleep so I wrote my very first RWBY fanfic

      kriss Community Manager

I've been having a lot of unsettling thoughts lately, so I decided to write. I just threw out some words and two hours later, this is what I put together.

Spoiler warning if you have not been caught up with RWBY.

      One's True Destiny

A moment is all the time one needs to unlock a cluster of memories that had been stored away but stayed close to the heart. The smallest fraction of time brought back the rush of emotions from years past and in that same instant brought everything to fruition.

She remembered being a stubborn child, a brat who wanted instant gratification as most children do. Wise but simple words echoed in her mind ‘To become who you are meant to be, allow your victories and failures to shape you.’ Her mother. She missed her.

Years flashed by but she could still recall the first time she wielded Miló and Akoúo. They were so foreign to her touch at first and she struggled to find a balance with them, but things that are meant to be work out as they should. They became the perfect trinity and soon she realized she could not have chosen more suitable weapons for herself.

Soon after came the brutal successes of her training. She was not only a role model for those in her generation but she became the target of envy, admiration, jealousy, marketing ploys… Her triumphs came at the price of isolation. While she put on a big smile for all to see, she remembered feeling very alone in the world.

She guarded her heart as Akoúo shielded her in battle. She believed her purpose, her destiny was to become a Huntress, and she wouldn’t settle for anything less. She saw no other path than the one that lead to making the world a better place and that was her only focus. Though she was grateful for all she had learned in Sanctum Academy, those memories became a blur. It wasn’t until she came to Beacon that she felt destined to be more than a Huntress.

“Do you believe in destiny?” These were her final moments, but the memories still came. She thought Beacon would be the same, that she would spend years in another school being gawked at, challenged and silently ridiculed. She remembered the moment she was completely wrong. He had no idea who she was, and that was oddly refreshing. It was his open, warm and completely genuine heart that made her drop the carefully placed barrier she had kept up for so long. Even though she trained him, he taught her that the world was a better place and all he did was… exist.

A quick stab and her heart now ached. Her body stilled and the last few memories faded in. All she could do was keep pushing forward, keep fighting. Her new friendships, the young women and men she now called family motivated her, inspired her. They were destined to right the wrongs of the world and pave the way for a brighter future. In the back of her mind, she always wondered if she was on the right path. Was being a Huntress really her destiny?

Just a short time ago, she was confused, baffled, and even scared. What had this all been for? All of her training, everything she had to endure for years had now come to this point. And she didn’t know why. She wasn’t meant to be a Huntress. She wasn’t meant to fight the Grim with her friends until they were old and grey. She wasn’t meant to be the Maiden. She wasn’t meant to be with him. So why? She thought to herself as she stared into heartless, amber eyes.

As she gasped for air, trying desperately not to show her enemy any weakness, she wondered if the dead truly left the waking world. She would miss everyone. She would miss him. Her body gave, but she felt a warm and friendly aura nearby. It comforted her and gave her hope.

With a single touch from her enemy, her physical body disintegrated away. Her presence in the world began to fade, but not before she felt a sudden wave of enormous power. It was in that moment that she realized her destiny. She did help her friends after all. She would help save the world. Never did she expect through all her hardships and heartaches that her destiny would lie in being a catalyst for another. Comforted with the knowledge that not all was lost, she released her hold on the world and wished victory to her friend, a little girl with silver eyes.

    • Traveling 101: Hotels

      kriss Community Manager

First off, @ErinM does an AMAZING job of breaking down the financial and mental obstacles you may be up against when it comes to making plans for RTX. You can read all of her compiled journals here. Seriously, you need to read this stuff. I am super serial.

There really isn't much more I can offer but I can give some very basic advice based on my own experiences. I also must remind you that my priorities may differ from yours because I am a Guardian and we are on a little bit of a different schedule that attendees.

*Hotels blocks have been listed on http://rtxevent.com/Hotel blocks really just mean that a certain number of rooms have been reserved by a company/event planner at a discounted price specifically for said event. However, just because it says book before X date that does not mean rooms will be available up until that date. Once the room block is filled up, it is filled up. And if there are other rooms available, they will be full price. The long and short of it is, room blocks don't offer a huge discount, but it is helpful if you are on a strict budget. If that is the route you want to go, then booking sooner is way better than waiting until the deadline. Take it from me, the $200/night range is actually pretty cheap for hotels near a convention center. You need to have a credit card ready and if you want roommates (which I highly suggest you should have), you can place additional names on the reservation. Be careful though because adding a crapton of names can result in additional fees.

*Read the fine print. I'm going to be crass only because this is something you need to do and understand. If you are traveling and you are a cardholder or one who is responsible for booking, then you need to take full responsibility for what you are about to do with your money and that includes accepting the possibility of a mandatory deposit or certain hotel fees. All this stuff is listed in the hotel's policy. READ THAT BEFORE YOU BOOK. Cancellation policies are another thing you need to be aware of when booking. Once you reserve a room, you have a certain timeframe in which you cancel without getting charged. But if you cancel within 24 hours (generally) of your reservation, you will likely be charged a portion of that room price. That is not on the hotel, that is on you for not informing them of your status. This is part of adulthood.

*Calling is much more effective than emailing. We are in a technological age where we would rather not speak to someone and even though I am a social media butterfly, I will be the first to tell you that calling a hotel for questions about hotel blocks specifically is much more effective than using their website. If you do happen to book a room over the phone, make sure that they email you your confirmation and if you DON'T receive a confirmation within an hour, call them again. Don't assume you are in the system. Convention season breaks computers sometimes. Don't forget that.

*Don't be afraid to ask if the room comes with special accommodations. Two items that will definitely help you in your budget is the use of a fridge and a microwave. Even though there may be an extra cost, you have to compare that to the food you will be buying throughout the weekend. Convention food and dining out is expensive if you are on a strict budget. Go to a grocery store (everything you need is within walking distance), and store some food or if you happen to dine out, take your leftovers back with you. A lot of food tends to go to waste simply because there is no place to store it or heat it up. Snacks and water will definitely save you too. In multiple ways.

*Don't fuck up the room. I am serious when I say this. Respect the hotel room. I don't care what you do at home, but a hotel room should be left in the same condition as when you first entered it. I'm not talking about leaving clothes everywhere, I am talking about breaking things or destroying property. If you are in a non-smoking room, don't smoke in it. That is not cool. If you happen to notice something not working properly or if something is broken, immediately inform the front desk. That way they will not assume you did something and make you pay for it. And tip housekeeping. They have to clean up after you.

*Most hotels will offer some type of laundry service. Again, this is on you to double check with what the hotel has to offer. Some hotels have washer and dryer units stored either in one section of the hotel or on every floor. In that case, you will need quarters and probably have to buy detergent from the front desk. Other hotels will offer an actual service. They will give you a laundry bag and a list of services they provide (like dry cleaning) and you throw your dirty laundry into the bag, mark if you require special care for your clothes and then just leave it for them to pick up. They will return your clothing at a later time. This can get pricey. In rare, extreme cases (and I have done this), you can always wash your own clothes in the shower and hang them to dry.

*If you want to explore or do other things before your flight after officially checking out of the room, hotels will generally hold your baggage until you come back to claim it. That's really self-explanatory. It's like valet. You give them your luggage, you get a ticket and when you want to claim it again, you give them the ticket and you get your stuff back.

Aside from airfare, hotel will be one of the larger expenses in your budget. Again, I recommend roommates, and if you are someone who prefers to sleep in every day and you are a light sleeper, I would suggest not rooming with someone who is a Guardian. We have very early schedules and a lot of us have to be up at ready to go at 7am. That means being at the actual convention center at 7am, so you can imagine what time we have to wake up. But going back, if you can fill your room with the maximum occupancy, that will definitely help you save financially. And I highly suggest that you get to know your roommates before the convention starts. I'm not going into details, but there have instances where we had to provide people with a floor or couch because their roommates made them feel extremely unsafe and uncomfortable. That is an unfortunately reality. I'm not saying this to scare you, but it is something you need to consider. And with ANY convention, always be as safe as possible. So get conversations going, get to know one another because you will be sharing a space for 3+ days. There are tons of people who are either searching for space or offering it. You can check out the room share thread here. We have months before RTX is here, so start making friends!

      kriss Community Manager

Here are somethings that you may not know.

      VIP tickets are sold out.

Weekend passes are $85 + $13 service fee

Day passes are $45 + $9 service fee

The passes work for both RTX and SGC (Screw Attack) events.

You can find them here: https://rtx2016.frontgatetickets.com/ I cannot stress this enough, but I highly recommend you read up on the policies and procedures as far as buying tickets in bulk and how to transfer information to another individual. RT cannot process anything for you. Go to Frontgate.

Paypal is not an option but all major credit cards are accepted

The hotel blocks can be found on the RTX website towards the bottom. http://rtxevent.com/ If you've ever traveled before, you know to take advantage of the room blocks as soon as you can. Just because there is a "book your room before this date" does not mean that rooms will be available at the price until the very last day. Rooms fill up. That's how it works.

There is a hotel room share thread: http://roosterteeth.com/forum/rtx-2016/topic/32067...

There is a general FAQ thread: http://roosterteeth.com/forum/rtx-2016/topic/32067...

There is a "how much will things cost thread: http://roosterteeth.com/forum/rtx-2016/topic/32065...

If you are a sponsor, you should have received a 5% discount code via email which can be applied to the purchase of an RTX pass.

RT will NOT be mailing badges this year. Just like last year, they will have badge pickup onsite at one of the three venues (Convention Center, Hilton, JW Marriott). Because of this, while you can certainly buy a badge as a gift for a friend, you would need to call Front Gate PRIOR to RTX to update your name to your friend's name. This is the only way they will be able to pick up their badge once onsite since you would not be with them. (per @Bethany's journal)

The limit is 10 tickets per transaction.

That being said, I highly encourage you take a look through Bethany's journal post here: http://roosterteeth.com/post/51199127 because it seems to have formed into an FAQ forum, and she has been wonderful in answering many questions (some I am sure you may have as well!). So before you ask an RTX related question, read through the posts in that journal or feel free to post in the RTX 2016 forums. That's what they are there for.

I know a lot of you are either attending RTX or traveling by yourself for the first time. Trust me, don't worry. Take baby steps, plan ahead, read up on information that may serve as guidance to both travel arrangements and the convention itself and you will be fine. The unique thing about RTX is that you will have something in common with everyone there. So you automatically have friends! And the community has got your back. Don't be afraid to ask questions, but also don't be afraid to take the initiative and learn some pretty valuable adult knowledge. Traveling and convention attendance is a HUGE learning experience, so don't feel discouraged if you run into a few bumps in the road. It's happened to all of us. The bottom line is that you are embarking on a journey to meet up with one of the best communities in the world. Embrace that and all the struggles of getting there will disappear.

I am very much looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can during RTX. Who's all going?

    • Today

I had this long ass post about how Vday should be a day about love in general. If you're in a relationship, great! If not, also great! Just don't forget to love yourself and those in your life, etc... It was a LONG ASS post and I was writing it while waiting to see Deadpool.

But stuff has come up and it has adjusted my perspective. A few days ago, my friend Shelly asked me about a video we created four years ago. It was for the Red vs Blue Season 9 community contest and it was basically creating a music video to go along with any of the S9 OST songs that were created by @williams. I had no idea what I was doing when it came down to video editing software, but I had an idea and I went with it. I called Shelly up and asked her if she could play a part in the video and we had so much fun creating it. It's not spectacular or mind blowing. But the memories I have with her are most cherished.

I had wondered why this was brought up. Today, I found out. Recently, Shelly received some distressing news about her health. Not going to really sugar coat it. She has colon cancer and she is months behind fighting it. She goes in for surgery in a few days. In light of this, I want her to be surrounded by nothing but good memories that will strengthen her and constant reminders that she is loved. She totally kicked ass in this video and to me, has become part of the RT family. I had to read her message a few times to fully process it, so I can't even imagine how she must be feeling. She's a true fighter, and if you believe in positive thoughts, karma any of that, please wish her well.

Even if you don't "celebrate" Vday, take the time to remind someone you love them and always take the time to create memories to cherish.
