With all this community talk, I was inspired to update the RT Vegas logo. I was getting tired of seeing the black and red colors for the last three years, so naturally, I went for blue.

Guys, the lovely and ever so adorable @Chelsea just posted a page that lists out the active RT community groups, and it's awesome! Also, give props to @caleb because I know he's been hard at work with building this list as well <3 You can find that list here. http://roosterteeth.com/post/51258571

Based on a few of the comments, I do want to point out one thing.

Rooster Teeth does not create these groups. YOU DO. All of these groups were built from the ground up by people like you.

Do you want there to be a group in your area? Do you or someone you know want to take on the challenge of creating said group? Do you want some advice on how to start?

IF YOU ANSWERED YES TO THESE THEN CONTINUE READING.

It's so awesome that you want to start a community group in your area! Honestly, that's the first step in creating one. It'll be hard work, especially in the beginning but if this is something you really want to go for, then I support it 100%.

Do a quick search on the site for your location. Example, my area and community baby is RT Vegas. If you can see a group is active, then rock on and get involved! If you see that there is either no group or a group that has showed no activity in years, feel free to create one yourself. If you see that the founder of said group is active on the sight, give them the courtesy of messaging them and ask them what's up with the community group.

If you end up making a community group. My personal touch is create the group and bring it to life. Add a description, tell people what you want to do, and maybe slap together an RT community logo and use that as the profile photo. Canva is a great tool to stick a bunch of stuff together. Plus it's free! The overall message you want to convey is that you want people to see that the page is active and that you are serious about doing this. So make it presentable.

Do you happen to know other people in the area who love RT? Tell them about the group and tell them to tell their friends about it too! Start a Twitter account as well and start following other RT community groups. Get a feel for how they run things and interact with them. Just because you are located in different states/locations doesn't mean you can't form a connection. Lots of groups tend to livestream together or play video games, etc...The internet is a beautiful communication tool. Use it.

Once you're ready to have your first gathering. Test the waters and don't be upset if your first gathering is small. I tend to choose fairly inexpensive events like bowling or hanging out at an arcade and maybe we decide to go to lunch or dinner later. I'm pretty sure we will be doing mini golf next! Be mindful of everyone's travel/budget. This is where you have to really get a feel for your local community. What do they really like to do? How much do they like to spend? Are they sociable? Be open to suggestions too. Every group is different. What may work for one group may not work for another. Again, this part can be difficult, but don't be frustrated. Remember your overall goal: you want to build a place where people can get together and enjoy something they all love.

Set deadlines for yourself. Did you know that RT Community Day is the 15th of every month? Use that as a reminder to get things in gear if you want to organize a gathering. Sometimes, the 15th lands on a day that isn't convenient for most people, and that's okay! Celebrate on another day! If you want to have semi-regular community shenanigans, then set hard deadlines for things you need to do. Sometimes, it's as easy as HEY, SHOW UP HERE and people do, but other times, you may need to take some extra steps like... make reservations, or coordinate with other community members (depending on what you're doing). Be prepared.

Any time you start a community, it will take a bit for the ball to get rolling, but you cannot let that break you. You have to keep maintaining the group like a garden. It's a lot of responsibility and it will take extra time because it's all about coordination and organization. Once you have a few people who are interested in hanging out, tweet a date/time/location and/or update the group news post and have fun with it. And keep going. Interact with other people, search the forums for others, just keep going. Learn from your mistakes (because you will make a couple here and there) and always seek to improve what you do.

Local communities are about socializing, having fun, being silly and making friends. You've taken the first couple of steps toward that. I wish you the best of luck. I am so excited to see what you can create.

I'm trying to consolidate most of my content into one hub for people even though I will also be maintaining individual sites as well. Thank SWEET BABY GEEZUS a lot of this stuff syncs together. I revamped my blog, so please check out the NEW HOTNESS. Also, if you guys do the Facebook thing, I will also be adding content there as well! Please give the page a Like if that's your go-to platform for stuff outside of RT. https://www.facebook.com/Geekyfriedrice

I would like to collaborate with more people to create stuff because not only is it fun, but I've come to the realization in the last couple years that I would want my legacy to just bring good things to the world. Whether it's helpful blog posts, entertaining gaming videos, or silly Vines... speaking of, I made one with @Newbs (check it out here https://vine.co/v/idvttnguUAu), I just want people to feel good whenever they come into contact with anything I've made. If I made one person smile, feel better about themselves, see the world differently, make them forget any hardships they may be experiencing, then all the work put into these things is beyond worth it.

Let me know what you guys think. <3

Shelly goes into her surgery tomorrow morning. The surgery will last about 5 hours. They will be removing her colon to determine the stage of her cancer. Best case, it just stayed inside her colon. Worst case, they start chemo.

Can you send her some good vibes? She's foxymenace on Twitter.

Tomorrow, I will start streaming around 6:30pm PST. Hope to see you there.

I gotta be honest, I don't know how to feel right now. I am so scared for her, and the only way I know how to help is to continue streaming and sharing her page. I wish I could do more for her, but this is all I can do. It doesn't feel like enough. I just don't want her to suffer anymore like she has her entire life. I should probably stop typing before I start crying all over my laptop. Thanks for being so supportive you guys.

      Less than three you.

    • There are two faces to every community. Today I am talking about the cosplay community

      kriss Community Manager

We can get into a long, healthy discussion about the culture of the cosplay world, but I wanted to focus on three things in particular.

      1) The cosplay community is so vibrant, beautiful, creative, and awe-inspiring. I watch videos of cosplay groups, I see people magically construct outfits and props, I see people bond, connect and build something amazing together. That is such an amazing thing to witness, I hope that the cosplay community stays around forever.

      2) Sexual harassment and sexual assault is a very real thing in this community and it can happen to anyone. I cannot and never will be able to wrap my mind around the existence of this mentality, but it is very much present in our society, and that both infuriates and saddens me very much.

      3) The concept of said harassment is sometimes exploited and that makes me even madder and more upset.

I read an article today and it was about a young woman who called out her harasser stating the following: "Thirteen years ago, I was under 18- a minor. I was attending an anime convention in the Chicago area. A group of cosplayers, including myself, headed up to a hotel room to change out of our costumes. We were followed. While we were undressing, a photographer began slamming into our room's locked door in an attempt to break in. The room had one of those sliding locks, which broke open under the force. The photographer rushed in with a camera, attempting to get nude photos and/or video of underage cosplayers." That is a direct copy/paste from her article.

As you can imagine, the photographer being accused of the above lost credibility, lost work, lost contacts with conventions, etc... Said photographer uploaded a video of that exact moment. None of the the accusations were true. I will post the video below and if you look in the description, he links to all other correspondence/articles.

Her response: First and foremost, I'm not posting the video here. It would be triggering to some, and also NSFW due to language. You can find it yourself, gentle reader.

My reaction is this: No, clearly I did not remember all the details. It was 13 years ago, and I've tried to be honest and clear any time something new came to light.

I must call BS here. This guy's reputation has taken so much damage because of an accusation that was made based on a foggy memory from 13 years ago. She even goes on to say that he didn't remember exact details either. I WOULDN'T EITHER IF HAD TO REMEMBER SHIT FROM 13 YEARS AGO. She instigated this cry wolf story. She wouldn't link the proof against her because it would be "triggering". There was nothing in the video that would cause such a violent, mental breakdown on her part of any parties involved. Even in the moment that was recorded, there was no drama, no overreaction, just... nothing. Nothing was wrong. No one was screaming, a riot didn't happen, police weren't called. I highly dislike people who exploit the "trigger warning" concept and use that as a shield to hide behind.

Whatever her reasons for doing all this, it has done nothing for the community and it has damaged both herself and the photographer. Did he have an idiotic moment? Yes. You can see why in the video below. Did this moment warrant being accused of doing something illegal and have his reputation tarnished? Nope.

It is a shame that some within this community want to tear it down for the sake of popularity. A friend of a friend wrote a damn good closing statement to this whole thing: As much as we need to protect women and young girls at conventions from sexual harassment, we also need to ensure that people won't be subjected to unfair witch hunts over someone else's self-victimization fetish.

That being said and going back to point 2, there are very real situations that happen, and I will always be of the belief that people should say something and report anything that happens to them. There are legitimate stories out there, and probably tons more that are not told because people are afraid to use their voice. I will always encourage you to fight back and not stand for someone using you, bullying you, or think they can take advantage of you because you are enjoying a hobby you love.

Going back to point 1, I don't cosplay very much, but with my dabbling in this community, I will always believe that this culture should be about creating and enriching. It should be about learning new skills, acquiring more knowledge and achieving camaraderie. This community is absolutely beautiful in its heart and I want that to be its legacy.

I've found that River is pretty simple as well. If you get two boom shields and put them in the opening of the buildings it's pretty well impossible to get in there. Ammunition might be the only problem. We actually just all goofed on wave 26 or 27, but it was 1:30 in the morning and the three of us all had to work in the morning so we left. We could have easily finished it if we had decided, or if we had 2 others in the game. We got killed because we came out from the cover :P

Whoa! Those are quite the suggestions! I really appreciate you taking your time to reply!!! :)

Ha ha, I've got the grammar and spelling down. (I hate reading things that are horribly phrased and have spelling mistakes everywhere.) Although, I have to admit that my last few fanfics (from 5 years go) have loads of typos and mistakes but I'm too lazy to correct them... D:

Oh! The "carry pen & paper" thing is a good idea. I sort of do that, but I always forget to write things down. Another thing I notice is I tend to think about plot lines a lot RIGHT before I sleep when I'm already in bed....(which is stupid because when I wake up I forget the details).

I haven't read fanfics in a long time, would it be okay if I asked to read some of your recent original works. (Each time I read fanfictions now, I tend to get embarrassed because they all make me think of those stereotypical over-the-top cheesy fanfics...)

      Nice to meet you, Jackie.

Oh I know, whatever amount of effort that has gone into a pic, its still an effort. At least they've tried. Its harsh to negatively mod someone for actually attempting something.
