Huh. I guess the time got away from me. I definitely didn't realize how long it had been since I posted anything here. Welp, here you go: post.

It's been a very long time since I've written a journal. How silly of me.

Well, I have spent most of the summer wading through homework and heat.

I did take a lovely trip to visit some dear friends in Louisville, KY.

I finally got to meet Que in person, which was fun.

I met a very charming British traveler who was staying with my sister's boyfriend for his stop in our fair city.

I did more homework and began preparing my classroom for the schoolyear.

I suppose that's the main summary of my summer. I do apologize for abandoning my journal post, per se. haha I hope no one is the worse for it. :-P

He seemed far older than she expected. No. That wasn’t it. He seemed as though he had lived many lifetimes beyond his apparent years. His eyes spoke the experience of an impossibly old man, yet his appearance belied that he’d passed his 60th year. She was certain that he was older by a number of years than his appearance spoke, but he couldn’t possibly be the age his eyes spoke. The result of this disparity was to heighten her curiosity about this man even more. She had to admit to having certain expectations about him based on the information she had been given for this commission, yet already he seemed to belie every expectation she had built. She found herself wondering about the young man she had been so coincidentally hired to accompany. Though it was very rare for anything coincidental to occur around her, she thought apathetically. She took no pride in her ability to maneuver circumstances to favour her success. That was just doing her job. Nothing more. She spoke first.
      “I seek the magus, Mentius.â€Â
“You have found what you seek, child.†His voice was powerful, yet the most peaceful voice she had yet heard. This was not a man who needed to prove himself. He was powerful and his power was something he wore comfortably, as most people wear their favorite sword. He waited for her to continue.
“I suspect you have already determined who I am,†she smiled affably. “I would prefer to leave soon, so that we will have time to set up camp on the outskirts of the forest.â€Â
“That is a wise choice,†he returned, bowing his head slightly in acknowledgment. “Come.†He beckoned her to follow him through the archway. “I will introduce you to my ward and provide the payment upon which we agreed.â€Â
She nodded and silently followed through the curtain.

Hmmm. I just realized something about the new XBox Live that I'm not sure I actually like.... I even tested it with people not on my friends list to see if it actually worked this way.... Now that there are avatars, I can't really hide that I'm a girl. hahaha. Hmmm.

      Rain pelting down,
      Candles burning.
      Silence interrupted only
      By patters of drops
      And peals of thunder.
      The wind occasionally tousles
      The trees
Teaching them a dance never learned
      Before.
      Candles burning still,
      Their light supplemented only
      By lightening;
      Appearing and them vanishing
      like fairies in hide-and-go-seek.
Rain continues to beat the ground,
      The windows, the roofs,
      Even the trees;
      Lulling the earth to sleep
      Only to be awakened
By the irate growls of thunder.
Over all there is an air of silence,
      Though
It is only natural noises which
      Pester the ear.
No automobiles; no beepers; no radios.
      Only nature rants and raves
      Save for one lonely moan
      Of a tree.
      No answer cries forth.
Only wind, rain, lightening, and thunder.
      And candles burning.

I would just like to remind everyone that "Change" and "Different" aren't always good things. Especially when the words are being uttered by a Marxist. Just a thought. I'm done now.

So about a 17 months ago I had to get a new-to-me car. This occurred because my previous car was a victim of carslaughter--death brought on my blunt force trauma to the nose. And so I bought a newer version of the car I had. The newer version came equipped with a cd player, which my deceased car did not have, and so became the $12,000 CD Player. Unfortunately, it also came equipped with the ugliest factory hubcaps that Honda ever produced. Seriously. The Ugliest. See?
      hubcap.jpg

No car should ever be a victim of these hubcaps. Not even an average silver Honda. And especially not a cute silver Honda with a manual transmission and a spoiler. It's not quite like asking a model to wear Crocs on the runway...but almost. About like seeing a well dressed businessman in bright orange Crocs. Incongruous. Awkward. You shake your head and wonder, "Why?" I was finally able to change that, to help my dear Phoebus have a better pair of shoes.
      rims.jpg

Please forgive the unshined tires and disks. I took the pic right after I had them installed. I think they do my little car a much better service. And when I get the money for a gunmetal grey paint job and new interior...well, they'll be downright spiffy. Yes. I did just say "spiffy." :-)
