I won't post a lot here, but I wanted to say that I just applied for a position at Rooster Teeth in accounting. I love my current job so much, it was hard to not feel bad applying for something else, but it's Rooster Teeth.

I have no idea what to expect or if anything will even come of it, but when you bump into an accountant for RT at a Sidequest even and she mentions how they have an open accounting position... well I'm not going to ignore the opportunity.

Anyway, prayers and encouragement are appreciated.

Edit (8/21/2018): I didn't get it. Seems they were close on a candidate when I applied. That's okay, though. I still really love the job I have. Hopefully they'll have call for another accountant at some point.

So a the clan I play destiny invited me to play D&D with them, and I've probably built 5-6 characters, but I finally settled on one I like narratively and mechanically.

I've written a lot about this character, how he became who he is, etc. and I think it will be fun.  He's an Eladrin (Unearth Arcana version) Druid of Dreams, so like, double Fey. Eladrin have this cool character trait that they move between personalities that are extreme and characterized by the seasons. So in some ways I get to play four distinct personalities. I added an aspect with him that his hair changes with his moods. They also attune to a season which grants them a cantrip for the day (firebolt, friends, minor illusion, chill touch), they can attune during a long rest (I have the character's eye color reflect this).

He's chaotic neutral, mostly because he is a lordly elf exiled from the feywild. He has used his druidic skill more for work than anything noble since. His emotions really will drive a lot of his behaviors, but what makes it more fun for me is that I'm really prioritizing some feats and proficiencies around socializing. He's an urban bounty hunter so he has proficiency in  deception and persuasion (plus the ear to the ground feat giving me a contact in nearly every place). He gets Insight (and arcana) as a druid, and perception as an elf. Currently, I'm looking to boost the social skills  a bit more by taking the diplomat feat to double my persuasion bonus, and get an extra chance to charm.

I just rolled the stats and they weren't half bad.the worst two were 10s, three 13s, and one 14. with the feats and other bonuses it comes to two 15s (wisdom and charisma), two 13s (Constitution and dexterity) and two 10s (strength and intelligence).

Well it isn't perfect, but I did make a little video that I'm fairly proud of, and it just went up today!

I grew up in a family that was always a bit stressed under the weight of financial uncertainty. My parents had good jobs, so why were things so unsteady? Because neither of them really had a strong sense of financial literacy. After some wandering, I became an accountant, and slowly but surely started to see what it was they were doing wrong, the things they didn't understand, or at least didn't apply well. So I made this video, hoping to help others find a bit more peace through understanding finance a bit better.

As RTX ticket season approaches (at least for those of you coming to Austin in August), I know that a big hindrance to people attending is the cost.Maybe this will help you be able to join the rest of us there.

    • Halo: Spyro Involved.

matteflowers FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold Cappy

The ladies over at WhatsGoodGames posted a video asking what would your dream video game mashup be ( Link here ), and of course they tended toward their favorite games/franchises for this. I thought it would be interesting to do the same mental exercise. below are the results.

I would say combine Halo and Spyro the Dragon (specifically the original insomniac run) into turn based Final Fantasy-esque RPG. They are two of my favorite video game series and the idea of taking those disparate styles and elements and making the highly serious Halo characters deal with zany spyro characters (or visa versa) would be entertaining.

I think it would be great to use an area based system (a la Grandia II or Final Fantasy Tactics) given the different skills and weapons involved, but I suppose a more traditional line em' up and knock em down rpg battle system could work. Your team can be broadly built, with the Master Chief and Blue team (Fred-104, Linda-058 and Kelly 087) joining forces with Spyro, Hunter, Bianca and Elora.

The universe traversing powers of the Spyro universe cause a mishap (as they often do) which disturb Halo's fragile subspace travel while the Halo characters are involved in a chase/conflict. Thus, Spyro, his allies and his enemies (An army of gnorcs and rynocs lead by Gnasty and/or Ripto) in a world between worlds where Forerunner Prometheans and zealous new covenant members are waging battle with the UNSC.

The characters would all slot decently into the 3-5 character system of turnbased RPG. Each gaining most skills through a leveling system and/or a materia-like system of upgrades with slots related to a weapon and a piece of armor. This would give both sides a chance to enhance using the magic/tech of the other group (dragonworld magic in UNSC weapons/armor and tactical tech in magical weapons). Each possessing a specialized overdrive skills as well. I see the characters breaking down like this:

Blue team's skills would largely lean toward physical/concussive or energy damage. Their weapons would be principally guns (with knives/ordinance/sidearms being skills)
John (Master Chief) would be a mid-range balanced fighter, use an assault rifle and have a few heavy hitting skills (and higher luck rolls). Armor piece would be his actual overshield pack. Overdrive skills would focus on vehicles with the signature being to drive and warthog into the enemies and somehow survive the explosion.
Kelly would a roguish close range fighter with more speed to cover distance, take more turns but lighter hits from her pistol  and cqc moves, but with a few high-caliber ordinance moves later in game. Armor piece would be her leg gear. Overdrive skills would be heavy ordinance with the signature move being to call down a shot from a MAC in orbit.
Fred being a close range brawler is slower, but hits given are more damaging, best knife skills and has a shotgun as a primary weapon. Gloves for armor slot. And his overdrives would be a series of attacks against all enemies, with the signature being working his knife with expert skill.
Linda being a more ranged fighter with her sniper rifle, she would be for use against flying or distant enemies. lower armor ratings so keep her from the frey. helmet related gear for her armor. Linda's overdrive would focus in on a single target and be a high impact shot of specialty ammo into the perfect weak point.

The Dragonworld crew's skills would move across a broader variety of magics, but with the trade-off that more normal damage as done by Blue team is low.
Spyro would have a similar close to mid-range attack scheme to John, but with most mid-range attacks leaning toward magic. His weapons would be various forms of flame and his armor would equipped along his ridges. His overdrive's would relate to Dragonworld powers Spyro gains at times, with the signature being the beam like blasts of superflame from Spyro's 2 and 3.
Hunter the cheetah would use a bow and boots thus be a lighter hitting ranged fighter. He'd have less range than linda but with more mobility. His overdrive's would relate to the various minigames he set spyro on (manta ray races, skateboarding, etc) but his signature would be moving at a high rate of speed and sending ricocheting shots that hit a multitude of enemies all at once.
Elora the Faun would be like a white mage/summoner with the summons being various player characters from Year of the Dragon and various NPCs (Like Moneybags (who would require a payment to act), the dragons from the original game, or the Professor). The use of a summon spell would replace her slot on the field with the summoned character until they were either recalled, defeated or used more than a certain number of turns. Her weapons would be talismans from Ripto's Rage with orbs as her armor slot. her overdrives would allow for extra powerful summons (lower skill costs, higher damage, etc., with the signature being to summon a group of them all at once for a single fierce attack)
Bianca the Bunny would be a traditional black mage with spells ranging across the elemental spectrum. Her weapons being various spell books and her armor being cloaks. Her overdrives wouldn't need to be particularly amazing, honestly something like Lulu's black magic overdrive in FFX would work perfectly.

So yeah, there's the madness, I actually would love to see something off the wall like this. What games would you mix, how might the resulting game play, and why?

    • The Last Jedi was just fine. (No plot spoilers)

So I saw The Last Jedi last night. I managed to avoid spoilers about what happens, but a lot of what I saw was heavily leaning to the negative. So I was tentative at best. and I must say.... I liked it.

Was it the best Star Wars movie ever? No (That's Empire Strikes Back and don't you forget). That said, it was better than 4 of them (Prequels and Rogue one), as good as one  (Return of the Jedi) and worse than the rest.

I thought some of the best Star Wars moment I've ever seen were in this film, and some of the worst. Plot wise some plot lines were great and enthralling a few left me wondering why they were there. They managed to play with expectations in a fascinating way (that really challenges what a Star Wars move can or even should be)

If you like Star Wars, see it. If you don't care about Star Wars, see it but then message me whether or not it seemed good to you.

So in a post a few months ago, I mentioned how I had this new show idea, but I felt like maybe the idea was a hard sell so I'm working on the pilot now to help others get an idea of what I'm working on. I've shared the first snippet with a few folks, but I'll toss it out here as well. I'd love to hear your feedback.

PS (I already don't like the floating words, gonna nix those in the final)

Hey y'all, so I've been working on this new idea for a youtube series on my channel. It wouldn't be about gaming really. More of a pseudo-educational series about business, accounting, corporate and personal finance. At least that's the starting idea, I'd love to expand it into more topics, but I'm starting with a passion of mine and something I know decently.

The working name for it is "the Growth Show" (vague plant/flowers pun intended), but if you have other thoughts on that let me know. Other than that, I wanted to know what questions or topics you would be interested in? Currently I'm planning on high-level chats about things like: business health metrics, taxes, basics of retirement accounts (like 401ks and IRAs), credit cards, loans, interest, as well as how to make basic financial statements and the differences between traditional business (accrual) accounting and the usual cash-basis most people use, as well as interesting business models (I personally love to look at how different companies and individuals make money in different ways).

Those are just some ideas, but I would love to hear what's on your minds. And even if it isn't businessy finance sort of stuff, maybe there's a place in the show for episodes around those things as well.

    • Introducing Offbeat Bloom

Hey everyone, I know some of you have missed seeing me stream. A lot of that is work related because it's our busiest season, but some of it was because the weather was nice and I was walking to work so didn't really have another 3 miles of gaming in me. I started thinking about how the treadmill gaming is fun, but limiting. Sort of felt silly to log in and stream, but be on the livefromthetreadmill account and not be on the treadmill.

So I spent time thinking about it and decided to try something different. That's where Offbeat Bloom comes in. It is a more generic branding to make for more versatility in videos. The name itself is a vague reference to my name (Flowers = Bloom) and offbeat had a nice bit of symmetry to it. Mainly I'll be posting to youtube, and right now the site only has a few of the currently running series for LFTT on it since I will be continuing those.

You can find all of the different social media up in the banner, and note I'm planning to use Youtube Gaming for streams going forward.

*EDIT* and if you're wondering the bloom symbol is a blooming Dogwood flower.

On Christmas Day, 1993, Sybill Trelawney, professor of Divination at Hogwarts, joined several of her pupils and fellow teachers for Christmas dinner in the castle's Great Hall. She was fearful upon noticing that twelve people were dining in the hall, believing that were she to sit down, the first of the thirteen seated to rise would be the first to die. Fellow professor Minerva McGonagall expressed doubts regarding her fears.[3]
However, if Peter Pettigrew in his Scabbers disguise is counted as a person, there were thirteen people before Trelawney arrived. Since Dumbledore rose from his seat to greet Professor Trelawney, and assuming Derek and two other unnamed students did not die before Dumbledore's death in 1997, Professor Trelawney 's prediction was correct.
