    • SGA Jacket commission - PART 2

      (see previous journal for details)
Basically, I've redesigned my jacket concept art:

Does anyone like it better than the previous one?

    • Stargate Atlantis jacket commission

      mercchurch

Lately I've been excited about a Stargate Atlantis jacket I'd like to commission. I think I've finally found a seamstress who could do it for under $100AUD, including postage, so here's hoping.

I decided to get a jacket in the style of Doctor Elizabeth Weir, but in the colours of my favourite character Radek Zelenka.

It's a pity the show has been cancelled, but that won't stop me from wearing a civilian scientist jacket!
Here's my sketch of the jacket (I've basically gone over the image of Doctor Weir, added the scientist colours of grey-brown and royal blue and extended the undershirt into a double-zip layout, not sure if it's possible, the seamstress and I haven't discussed details yet)

      sketchswatch1st7.jpg

Besides that, have been playing Left4dead with David, best co-op game I've ever played! After Doom II of course.

Yes, that's right, I was insane enough to make a Twitter account. Well shameful. I don't know what I was thinking. In other news:

-Holding a little Xmas get-together with my friends on Boxing Day, I wrote an adventure game (in the same style as Hugo and Leisure Suit Larry, but in word form. I'm basically the 'dungeon master' and describe a room/scenario, and they have to search the room for objects and find a way out).

-I have a new computer, my pride and joy. CAUTION: I do not nor have I ever reccomended an Acrylic Case to ANYONE. Pros: Sexy, big and spacy, beautiful, sexy, just gorgeous with cathode lights, and very easy to change fans. Cons: Nightmare removing/adding HDDs, screws come out after a whle and don't stay in, a little bit flimsy when being carried (so not ideal for lan parties) but did I mention they are just plain sexy?
      nerdfest26zm1.jpg

-Installed Halo 2 on my PC (successfully, I've had the copy for a couple of years) and it's pretty cool, there have been some very intense sniper and sniper-rocket games. I like the way the elements are the same as Halo 1 but better... the multiplayer, the upgraded but similar weapons, the sucky campaign lol. If anyone wants to add me I'm robot bride.

-My boyfriend David and I have been together for a few months, he's really awesome. He even got me into Star Gate Atlantis, which was a bad move on his part as I spend most of my time telling him how hot I think the characters are. And I honestly can't decide between Radek Zelenka and Carson Beckett. And then there's Rodney, and I mean RAWR.

-I was the top of my class in English. Yay.

Time to catch up on some alerts, and then kick back - it's Christmas Eve!
We get our presents tonight, my family is Hungarian and an "angel" brings us our presents. Sort of like ordering presents with Express rather than Santa... it just gets here faster.
MERRY XMAS to you all ^-^

      mercchurch

Has anyone else noticed the new award feature? It's available for non-sponsors apparently; my sponsorship ran dry yesterday - yay XD

I'd like to make a point from a cynical view:
      i) it's sad that Rooster Teeth have made such an obvious attempt to get people to scout through their website and comment in various areas such as the comics section and the forums to boost popularity. Sort of like that "Employee of the Month" rubbish corporations use to spur on employees.
ii) it's even sadder that I already have all the awards.

Speaking of Employee of the Month, here's my interpretation of one of my favourite corporations:
      mcdonaldsspaceship.jpg

btw. I don't want anyone sponsoring me, that's an order! I don't spend much time at this site anymore anyway

      mercchurch

So... I've picked up my Year 11 Subjects.
Literature, Advanced Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Software Development and Hungarian.

I'm taking a look at universities, Swinburne Uni of Tech. looks okay, I need an ENTER score of about 75, which I think I could get easily.

However, Monash Uni has a great course for what I'd like to do: sort of a cross between Doctor Who (Computer/Science Poindexter Geek) and Gordon Freeman (Theoretical Physicist). The ENTER score I'll need is something like 94.0003 to the power of a kazillion X Google X an Infinity Drive of a mind boggling number and against...

My destructive interference wavelengths are calling, so I best be off to study. Hope everyone's okay!

Here come the drums, Here come the drums...

      mercchurch

A little catch up on my life then...

      Lately I have been:
      *Playing Half Life 2

*Not playing Half Life 2, because my eyes can't focus properly anymore. Too much computer time perhaps, but I've stayed away recently and I hardly play games anymore, except maybe for 20 min. Unfortunately, my eyes still hurt like hell, even writing a simple journal.

      *Watching Doctor Who

*Picking my subjects for Year 11. I've got down advanced maths, Physics, Chemistry, Software Development, Literature and Hungarian.

*Reading a Physics text book, very interesting stuff. No wonder Gordon Freeman got into theoretical Physics. Last night I read about optical fibres and wavelengths (constructive and destructive interference). I think I'm really going to enjoy the subject, school starts January here in Australia.

*I'm getting privet dance lessons now, theatrical jazz and tap. It's brilliant.

At the moment, I'm off to give my eyes a rest because they are stinging quite a lot. Later on, I'll probably read up on noise cancellation, it sounds fascinating.

      Bai bai.

    • Drawing Journals?

      mercchurch

So I've said earlier that I'm not going to write about my life as I have too much going on. I got back from a 5-week trip in Hungary 6 hours ago. Will post photos maybe, eventually? It was really good, learned about my heritage and everything. Also, I'm single and happy; the single part having happened recently, and the happiness following soon after.

Okay so to keep it short, I want to draw stuff in my journals, so I'm going to steal nudge1's idea and do a poll. Choose what you'd like me to draw and I'll post it in my journal.

    • Crysis

      mercchurch

A comic based on Crysis, Fiachna wrote it and I drew it a few weeks ago. Waiting for another idea from him.
      turtles.jpg
I'm also leaving for Hungary in 18th (Sunday, weekend after next) and I'll be gone for 5 weeks. I'm taking my Maths homework with me as I'm doing a Yr 11 subject (in Yr 10), so hopefully I'll do OK on the exam when I get back on the last week of school!

Meanwhile, today was the last week of school for me, as I begin work experience next Monday at Colac Electronics doing retail and repair. I get $5 a day (And to think how I didn't mind that I'd get $5 an hour and a total of $125 for the week! I sort of tried not to think of the money too much, but when it went 'bye-bye'... yeah) which is pretty good. I never really considered getting paid anyway, I'm there for the experience in work, as well as to ask other people about electronics and computers, to get a pretty label on my resume and most importantly, to show off my Photoshop Hero t-shirt (those who met up with me in Melbourne w/ Nudge and Feyd on our little Rooster Teeth community get-together will remember).

So, looking forward to Hungary. Sort of.
      Hope you're all doing Ok!

This is true, but then I tend to find samplers of albums before I buy them. I also only buy albums from bands I know are good. So that always makes it easier and less likely to be dissapointed.

I've used many terms for using up a download cap. Bandwidth has been one, so has "oops leeched too much" and "Fucking damnit. This massive torrent was 99% complete and now it's going to take weeks to finish. Fuck" also "err, that went a leeetle too quick"

      Among other things.

See, I don't get that. The worst way to start off a conversation about music is to say "Oh, I hate the music that you like" I mean it may be true, but makes that person sound like an arrogant asshole... which could be true, still mean though.

I don't have much in the way of Tom Lehrer at the moment, I've got the Vatican Rag song and that's about it unfortunately. I don't download all that much music actually, call me strange but I'd rather buy an album, though it does make it difficult with old artists like Lehrer... though I did see a CD of his stuff at a JB-Hifi once.

Yeah, I know who they are. You have them listed on your profile, that's what I was referring too smiley6.gif

How can I not know Jonathan Coulton? Everyone knows him now. I mean godamn. Still Alive == Epic.
Tripod are always awesome. I remember when they used to be on the radio with Wil Anderson and Adam Spencer, some of the songs they came up with were fucking godlike.

Not to mention the others; Tom Lehrer == Epic. Flight Of The Conchord as well. Though I think the TV show is a little silly.

Lifehouse... they did that one pop song a while ago. They still around?

lol stereotypes. Hey, I love me my metal, but anything that's good is worth a listen to. *looks at list* No wait, you're right, your musical taste sucks smiley0.gif .

Though 6 out of 10 bands on your current list are awesome... Though I never could figure out how anyone liked Good Charlotte or Sum41. Each to their own.

Glenn Miller... Jazz right? You'd be surprised as to what music owes it's origins to jazz. *cough* half my list */cough*

The Sarah Jane series is new. Overseen by the same guy that ressurected the show, Russell T Davies, though the new series of Sarah Jane has had a staff change as well as main doctor who. Stephen Moffat might have a hand in new SJA episodes, but he also might not.

You definitely should! I hate the process of giving blood, but I still feel it's important to do - my dad had major surgery in 1993 and needed 8 units; a friend had a difficult birth a couple of years ago and also needed 8 units; my uncle had his life extended by regular transfusions while suffering from cancer... All the time gained with these people has been provided by others giving blood - how could I not show my gratitude but by trying to give the same?

Saying 'yes' a good thing? It is a very positive approach to life, I will admit! But sometimes, it takes a 'no' to either protect yourself, or to show others that they need to rely on themselves more... But for now, I'm coping at work, even if I am getting very worn out too.

And thanks for the congratulations for my parents - I have passed them on!

It's good to hear from you! It's been quite a while - I expect you saw my journal watchlist counter? You can see just how behind I am, and this includes some of your journals right now too. I apologise for that, but hope to be able to bring myself up to date soon.

K9 was going to have a series way back in the early eighties, uniting him and Sarah Jane Smith together but it didn't get picked up. It seems to be canon considering that Sarah Jane has him in the season two episode and the season four episode. Sarah Jane was previously a companion for the fourth/fifth doctors in the mid-seventies. It is the same actress, which is also pretty cool.

She has her own spin-off series, which the kid from the Series Four Doctor Who finale is from. You'll probably never see it down here on australian TV so you're best bet is to see if it exists on YouTube, which wouldn't surprise me at all. It's a good show actually. It was marketed as a kids show but does stand alone as a pretty good show in it's own right. I beleive that has a second series coming too.

That's a valid point actually, Not everyone has the bandwidth for stuff like bitorrent. Youtube fills the I wanna watch it now group I suppose. Though I do tend to watch Episodes, especially the Really good ones three or so times.

Yeah. It shits me off. Premiering the Christmas episode as the first part of the finale airs in england. I read one local review of the episode and it contained, and I quote "A christmass theme, which doesn't make any sense because it isn't christmas... but it's one of the many things about this episode you can ignore as it flies towards the Doctor saving the day in his usual crazy style"

This was a positive review. Baffles me. Really does.

Silly ranting aside, probably watching it on TV would be better than youtube videos IMO. Youtube is good for getting the gist of something, or videos made specifically for youtube but not anything else.

Star Trek is set on a spaceship and they go from planet to planet finding cool shit in the far future.
Stargate is set on modern day earth and they go from planet to planet via a series of wormholes finding cool shit.

Aside from that, there are some key differences. Enterprise is a damn good show too. It got much better by the end of the fourth series and then got cancelled. Which is a tremendous pity because it had plenty of potential.

I recommend both. Stargate Atlantis borrows heavily from old Star Trek... well, Voyager and Deep Space Nine including a couple of the actors, but is good enough that it stands alone as it's own show, and a logical continuation of Stargate SG1.

Actually, A thought occurs. The Season Eight finale episodes. 8x15 through to 8x20. Big episodes that build the storyline and still cover the basic premise.

The difference isn't quite so marked between old series and new like Doctor Who. Stargate just had a couple of new actors come in to replace the older ones. Hmm.

I'm trying to think of a decent starting point for Stargate. Actually, the original movie might be a great introduction. Though it is very much a 90's style movie. Though, the more I think about it, maybe starting at Season 9 and Ten and then going backwards might be a decent idea as well.

I myself am watching Season One again. The show does expand it's storyline alot over the years. So perhaps all the way from the start might be worth it.
