Again, if you're purchasing by September, a LOT is going to change, especially if you're looking at Intel parts. They are releasing the midrange counterpart to the Core i7 line, and they'll be starting to phase out the Core 2 chips, along with the entire LGA 775 socket. CPU selection has everything to do with your motherboard selection, and vice versa. A good gaming motherboard with decent overclocking options will run about $150 on this side of the pond.

AMD has always been a solid choice for gaming, and though their CPU line doesn't beat anything Intel has at the top of the line, their midrange parts are very competitive. SLI is nVidia nomenclature (AMD calls it Crossfire), but it just means two or more video cards working in tandem. Unless you had a lot more money to burn, it's probably not worth it for you.

For a decent gaming rig, be prepared to spend some money on the power supply. Even if one comes with your case, it's often rubbish, and a lot of the nicer cases don't even come with power supplies.

If you've got a website where you plan to buy your parts, I can start looking at some options. But again, shopping for computer parts two or three months out is completely laughable. You shouldn't nail anything down until you're actually ready to purchase with funds in hand.

Sure, I'd be happy to help you! I keep an eye out on Newegg, and maintain lists of components for computers in various price ranges. The lists aren't posted anywhere, though, as Newegg's wish list feature leaves a lot to be desired in that respect.

Computer hardware and pricing change often, so when you nail down a budget, and you're within about two or three weeks of actually purchasing, let me know, and I'll help you put together a system. smiley0.gif

Thanks for stopping by my profile. Please don't bother anymore. I have neither the time nor patience to deal with another bleeding heart liberal that doesn't have a clue. Have a nice day.

yeah thats pretty cool story there. yeah anything in the car business has its downs mostly, and its not for the faint of heart. and not a whole bunch of experiance. it was kinda of a hobby growing up, but ive only actually been in the business for 4 years. i kind of came up fast through the ranks so to speak. but ive had a lot of great mentors.

i bet it is cool. id like to work on a race team, but meh, i bet its not all its cracked up to be. and yeah, Dale Earnhardt Jr is the most popular driver in NASCAR. i like him, but hes not my guy. im a big Ford guy so yeah.

as for work i work at a Lincoln/Mercury dealer as a service technician, im a ASE Master certified and Advanced level specialist in gasoline engines, and a Ford Senior Master. basically, if i get my last like 2 diesel things, i have it all. im not too worried about that though, because over here in the states, diesel isnt that popular, just in the big trucks. but i know all about those, i jsut havent taken the time to take the tests for those certs. but if you ever have a question, especially about Ford, im sure i have the answer.
