      What-up, RTers.

I'm writing this out quickly before I head off to work. How have you all been? Long time no see, eh?

I haven't logged on to the RT website and checked the forums much recently, but I'm still here avidly watching RT/AH and Funhaus videos. I'll post on the forums later.

Hope you're all alright. I'll try and hang out here a bit more.

I know I haven't been here for a while. I am here, just not *here* all the time. But I want to repost something I put on Tumblr following the terrible news on Monday night.

A Few Words For Someone I Never Met

It's so odd crying and feeling empty with sadness over the death of someone I don't know. I have the same experience when young sports men and women die young. I felt sad and upset and like some part of my world had crumbled away because someone had been taken from this world so young and before they had their time to prove how great they were. So I find myself feeling desperately sad and upset over the death of a man called Monty Oum.

I have been a member of the Roosterteeth community for a couple of years. It started when I watched the Slow Mo Guys and then a Minecraft Let's Play and now I watch their content every day of every week. I found it a relief from the horrible and depressing reality I was dealing with a few years ago when I was having money and health problems. I still watch their content and I love it, despite the occasional naughty word and saying borderline insensitive things. They're funny and damn good at what they do and have an amazing community supporting them every step of the way. From raising a million dollars through a kickstarter campaign for their own original movie to raising half of that for a local children's charity in a 24 hour live stream of silliness, chest waxing, macaroni cheese and video games. For the kids.

So then there's RWBY. If you don't know it, go and watch it. It's an anime series from Roosterteeth started in 2013 that animator extraordinaire Monty Oum raised from the ground up as his concept and baby. He guided fellow animators in the look and feel of the show and in the end created a beautiful and brilliant animated series. I was super excited for the release of the show and it didn't disappoint.

I know RWBY isn't the only thing that Monty has done for Roosterteeth, he was an incredible animator and creator and has many more achievements under his belt, but RWBY is what sealed the deal for me. The whole show was his idea, his concept and he brought it to life with his skills and guidance of a team of people. I am staggered that such an extensive background to a show came from the mind of one man, right down to universe mythology and what currency the characters use and geography of the cities. A whole world came from him.

It's only a show on the internet, but it's brought together a family and community in a shared passion and, today, united that family in grief and sadness at his passing. Roosterteeth is a family, today of all days. I still can't believe this has happened and I can't believe we're talking about Monty in the past tense.

I never met the guy, I doubt I've ever been on the same continent as him before. But his hard work and dedication was an inspiration and he gave us a beautiful thing to remember him by. It's only a show on the internet, but it gives some of us a little silver lining to what is sometimes a grey day. And for that I can only say thank you.

      Goodbye Monty. Rest in peace.

      WAFFLE-O.
