• That Promised Update...

n4cer2002

Well, as i said i would, here's a more in-depth updates as to whats been going on, and also to prove wrong the claims of a certain person who said i wouldn't *COUGH*veteran*COUGH COUCH*.

Well, for christmas i thought i'd treat myself to a new speaker set, so i bought myself the rather delicious Logitech Z-5500 set:

Old subwoofer on the left, and my new one on the right:

Again, old sub on the left, new one on the right:

as you can see, the new one is quite a bit chunkier than the old one.

Old sub in front of new sub:

I'm impressed as to the huge difference in the sizes of the exhaust vents for them, though the picture doesn't really do it much justice.

Finally, the "setup":

Those wanting more info can find it here, and for those who can't be arsed to click, the main points are:

Speaker Type: 5.1 Surround
Subwoofer dimensions: 13" X 13.3" X 18.1"
"Powerful, distortion-free bass: The new, larger 10-inch long-throw subwoofer driver with flared bass port delivers 188 watts of thunderous bass."
Max Output: 1010 Watts - I guess i should point out, that my old set is no more than about 20-25 watts, and apparently for live gigs and things, the speakers used are around 400 watt or so (or so i'm told)

So yeah, i'm pretty chuffed with them, they sound incredible, and as you'd guess from a sub that size, the bass is quite stunning. On the day i set it up, i put the sub volume up to a quarter volume, and then about the same with the main volume, and the wardrobe on the other side of my room was vibrating.

Other than drooling over them, its just been pretty usual, lectures and things for uni, though theres some talk of me perhaps getting a car, which would be awesome.

I'm also going Airsofting for the first time this sunday (basically paintballing, but with bb guns instead) so that should be a laugh, and theres talk among my mates that if we like it, we may all get ghillie suites (the sort that snipers use that makes you look like a bush, actually, i'll find a pic):

ghillie-flage_suit.jpg

CHAMELEON2.jpg

so thats' gonna be fun.

I also went house hunting a while back for somewhere to live in my second year at uni, and found a restaurant, which we went to, only to discover they were celebrating Chinese New Year, and had an indoor festival thing going on with dragons and drums and stuff, but it was full so we couldn't eat. We went back there this wedsnesday, and its brillant, there's sushi and noodles, and egg fried rice, crispy duck, chocolate fountains, and the works.... just a tad pricey though.

I've also been reading a fair few books recently, so thats been keeping my occupied, though i'm still waiting for a few more to get delivered...

Anyway, i'll see about posting something as to how maimed i get at airsofting and stuff like that. I do check this kinda frequently, though its not quite the half-hourly basis it used to be, so still free to message me or for those who have me on msn, i'm on there still.

Adios, and has fun !!

n4cer2002

Well, its been a long time since i've done anything on this journal, but short of uni, theres not really been too much going on.

Anyway, to the job at hand, i just got one of those "friendly reminders" from RvB saying that my sponsorship is about to expire, so if anyone out there would like to sponsor me in return for mods or something, then please let me know. its currently set to expire on the 14th of this month, so thats less than a week.

Hope everyone is doing alright.

• Relentless-athon.

n4cer2002

Today has been pretty entertaining all in all.

Had my first lecture which was alright, pretty mediocre, but not so bad. Was waiting for my second lecture when one of my mates walked up to me with some Relentless free gifts. For those of you who haven't heard of Relentless, its an energy drink like Red Bull, only you get twice as much and its cheaper than red bull too.

Anyway, 10 minutes before the next lecture started we legged it over to the stand, and i got myself an inflateable can holder, and a Relentless branded tin water bottle for 20 texts, and entered a competition to win some Relentless branded deckchairs, which were awesome before legging it back to the lecture.

The lecture was pretty entertaining, although i have no idea what it was about, as i was more entertained by one of my mates messing round with chewing gum. so that was pretty entertaining.

After that, we headed back to the stand, where we just loitered for the next 3 hours or so, just larking round.

At one point the bloke doing the stand said we could have a downing competition and the winner would win the remaining cans in the crate (it was a fresh crate, of 12 cans, minus the 2 cans that we used in the competition so 10 cans). It was pretty funny, as i think i started really well, but about 3/4 of the way though, it just became rancid and the other guy won. Bearing in mind that they're 500ml cans, 3/4 is pretty good to say i'd been having a load of the free samples before that too.

Anyway, later on the people were packing up, and one of my mates had been asking them if he could have their table, and the lucky git got it at the end. i just found it hilarious watching my mate wander off carrying the huge table over his shoulder, especially after he'd been doing more advertising than the actual people there had been.

The whole thing was a laugh, mainly due to the people around, but it was sooo much fun, and its been an awesome day.

I've now gotta figure out what the hell to do with some of the stuff i have.... Relentless branded inflateable can holder anyone ??? how about Relentless branded postcard set ??? Relentless branded metal water bottle i'm keeping, Relentless branded mugs / shot cups anyone ???

Nothing beats my mate's Relentless branded table though, thats for sure.

Anyway, have fun everyone. ^_^

• Week In Check...

n4cer2002

Well, its finally the weekend, and about damn time...

This week has been pretty busy, and been doing a fair bit of work, and non-work related stuff.

Been learning to play poker, which has been entertaining. The first night of games i played, i was less that useless, however, last night we had another game, and apparently there is some rule whereby if you play the entire round blind (ie, not look at your cards once, not physically blind) then you only have to bet half as much as everyone else. I decided i'd give it a go, and carried on betting as normal, hence, making everyone else bet double. The best bit, was that i actually won..... SOMEHOW i managed to get a straight, without looking at my cards... I was just loving it and couldn't stop laughing for ages.

In other news, something is up with my gran, so that can't be good. Apparently she fell over and has done something to her arm, so thats not good for a 93 year old... At least mum's with her atm, so that should help.

Also, i've now been bugged into getting a Facebook account, which i find pretty entertaining, as in less than 24 hours on there (not 24 active hours, i have been sleeping and eating and going out and counting that as the 24) i've managed to get over 50 friends. ^_^

And finally, i've just been sent something, and I don't have a clue why i like it, but its damned catchy and pretty entertaining. So you can find that in this convienient link here, although bear in mind that laughing too much hurts....

Anyway, i need to be fed, as all i've had to eat today is..... a single slice of toast and a single biscuit...

Laters all, and enjoy the link thing...

• 360, Or Not 360... That Is The Question.

n4cer2002

Ok I need a hand with a decision:

Basically, as most of you probably know now, i'm at uni, and thus far am without my xbox 360:

Personally, i want to get my 360 brought up here, so that i have a way of relaxing in an evening if i dont feel like paying a crap load to go out and watch people get drunk. So basically, i've come up with these pointers of why to have my 360 up here:

Its mine, and i paid for it, so theres technically nothing to stop me bringing it up.
Its one of my interests and something that i enjoy doing.
Theres a fair few games coming out for it that i really want (Assassins Creed for one).
Its one of my few luxeries bearing in mind that i dont smoke, drink or do drugs or anything.
If i don't then, bearing in mind my games and xbl subscription, it works out to be about £1200 ($2400) at least, down the drain as its no use me having it if i can't use it.

Parents arguement:

I'm here to work and having it here is just another distraction.
I spent too long on it over the summer (theres squat all to do near where i live so if i didn't have it i would have gone out of my head)
"We're not paying for a TV License for you" (thats gonna be £135, roughtly $270)
You're there to work. (i accept that, but i still wanna have it here for when i don't have to work)
You can go out and have a soft drink if you dont feel like drinking (yeah, but thats still at least a fiver for entry to the Union before anything else)
You'll be too busy working (i know i'll have a lot of work, but if i don't and theres nothing to do, i'd rather be able to play something than sit around racing my printer to grow a beard, or gather dust...)

So basically, I need a hand in deciding what to do:

Listen to me and bring it here, have fun in the times when theres not much to do, can use it as a socialising point for when mates come over, and generally have it here. Plus, if i have it here and i am too busy to play on it, theres nothing lost, but if i dont have it here, then i want to play on it, i can't as its 150 miles away.....

OR

Listen to parents and leave 360 at home only playing on it when i go home at the end of terms, at which point i'll have work to do over the holidays, resulting in either me working all holiday and not getting to play it, or playing all holiday as its something i've not been able to do for ages, and then fail at working.

I've booked a train ticket to go home in 2 weeks time, so any help at all in deciding before then, would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

n4cer2002

Ok, well.

Aside from changing rooms and all that, which i covered in my last journal, theres still been a lot of goings-on.

My mum came up and brought my speakers for my computer, so now i have them, although i don't remember my subwoofer ever being as loud as it seems... when i got my speakers, i thought i'd test it out, just to make sure it had travelled alright, so hooked it all up, and got some tunes on the go. Now, its at this point that i should explain that my desk, with speakers and sub are in one corner of the room, and the bed and hence, bedside cabinate are in the opposite corner, as far away as possible. So, testing out my speakers, cranked up the volume a bit, and thought it was pretty cool, nudged the volume up a bit more, and the whole beside cabinate started vibrating a LOT. I've since turned the whole lot down a lot, but even with my sub on half volume theres still a hell of a lot of air coming out the exhaust vent, and a lot when the sub has the volume down as far as it will go...... ahhh well.

My posters are now up, so thats awesome, i've managed to get 9 posters up, 8 being predictably dragons, and the other of a Lambourghini ^_^. I find it pretty entertaining the way people will come in, take a look around, and theres just walls covered in dragon posters, mind you, i'm lovin' it, as they're awesome.

I'm gonna try and head home weekend after next so i can pick up my tv and 360, ready for Assassins Creed to be released, although that then means paying £135 ($270) for a Tv license, which blows.

Whats more is that with the new games out that i want:

Halo 3
Assassins Creed
GTA4
PGR4
Army Of Two
Splinter Cell Conviction,

they all total £240 ($480) which kinda sucks. At least with not drinking, or smoking then i'll have the funds that most people waste on them, to put towards my 360.

Food is going alright, mum brought me some homemade lasanges, cakes, and chilli, so i'll be working through that. Also, one of my brothers who lives nearby has been awesome, been taking me out for meals, and shopping, so thanks to him, i've got a huge bag of chocolate, sweets, games, frisbees and other things like that, and he also brought a crap load of booze for people which was left over from the wedding, although scariest of all is the way that everyone thinks that he's my dad......

Lectures have started now, so thats a mixed blessing. On the one hand, its something to do, but as can be seen by my lecture notes from one particular "Money Matters" lecture below, some of them are less fun:

2lhffr

Personally, i thought they were pretty damned fine lecture notes, especially as the homework they set includes the question:

"Which of these is the biggest?

1/4 50% 0.43 5/4 90%"

so thats alright.

Anyway, i'm pretty hungry now, and there should be space in the kitchen now, so i'm gonna go make some food.

laters all ^_^

• Uni: Day 5

n4cer2002

Well. Its been one hell of a rollercoaster week, thats for sure. Highs and lows and everything in between.

As those of you who read my other journal probs got the jist of, i was pretty much hating every second of being here.

Now though, i've changed rooms, and i have a bigger room, and was lucky enough to get an en suite. I think it was kinda "meant to be" as when mum was phoning up seeing if i were able to get a new room then the keys were made available, after being reserved for someone else who hasn't showed up, when mum was still on the phone.

So thats a plus, and now i have full signal on my mobile everywhere in my room, and whole block, so thats awesome, and a lot more reassuring.

In other news, a few nights back we had an unplanned trip to the local A&E department when my mate turned yellow, and keeled over, so that wasn't great, but it turns out all they have is an ear infection.

I've been invited out for a meal or something by one of my brothers again at the weekend so i can see how that goes and take it from there.

I'm still thinking about maybe coming home and transfering to a different uni, but at least while i'm making that decision, i'm happier in the mean time.

If i stay, then at least i'm in a good place, and apparently i've already got more mates than some people have in the whole time they're at uni, so thats a plus. Also, if i stay here i may see about getting my 360 brought over so that will give me something to do in the quiet times.

The internet is still screwed for my computer, so for the moment, i need to try and get that fixed ASAP, but i'll try and use my mates comp as often as i can, plus that can get me on msn as well.

I'll try and check this as much as i can. I still have a lot of thinking to do about what it is that i want to do, be it stay or go home. i'll just have to think though.

• Uni: Day 2, 2 years 364 days left...

n4cer2002

Maaaaan this is shit scary.

Thanks everyone for words of support, but i'm still bricking it. At times i've been so worried that i've been visibly shaking all over. i'm still trying to get used to it, but its damned hard.

I'm gonna give it a good shot, but if that fails i can always head home, and go to a uni nearby, or get a job or something.

I'm just gonna have a major think 1 week in and then 2 weeks in. if i'm in this much of a state then its not healthy.

Some things are just not helping at all. The showers are too small, and don't even come up to my shoulder, the beds are waaaaay too short, so sleeping is pretty damned hard. The internet here can be pretty lame, slow and what not, but worse of all, when you log on to the network, you need to install one of their programmes to do so, but that says that you're not allowed to use any P2P stuff, so no limewire, no torrents, and oddly enough, Skype is counted as P2P, so i can't even damned well call people. My phone is shite here, i have no signal inside any of the buildings, but full most other places.

I've not really been eating right yet, so thats gonna screw me over if it continues. Mainly though the lack of sleep, and just being "emotionally fragile" atm just isn't a good mix.

However, in good news, my roomie hasn't turned up, so theres a chance i could have this room to myself, which would be awesome, though they could still turn up in the next few days.

I really just need to think if this is what i want, as in the first 2 weeks i should be able to switch course, or even uni if i need to.

Its just getting to me that you've always got to lock the room each time you go out, even if its just through to the kitchen, and you've gotta pack everything of value away each time, so my laptop is in and out all the time, no more just open the lid and go from there... *sigh*

Thanks again for the words of support, but so far 24 hours in, i wish i wasn't here.
