Hey guys, just gonna throw this out there:

I haven't been on this site in ages, but I remember all my friends here being good conversation. If any of you care to stay in touch, feel free to friend me on Facebook. My name's Michael Sotomayor, and I live in Rolling Meadows, IL (though FB might say Schaumburg). Shoot me a line, but make sure you include your old username on RvB so I know who I'm talking to.

I'm still working on the comic right now. So far, I have sunk about 200 hours into it. Just at a guess, I have about 120 more hours worth of work to do on it.

Currently, I am taking the scans of the pictures I drew earlier and I'm giving everything flat color, while filling in the background with the appropriate scenery (space). Pretty much, I'm taking white pages and covering up all the white space with color. Even the buffer zone between the panels is getting a color treatment.

So, in any case, still busily chipping away as the largest project of my life. :)

      Cheers,

Hello, I'm Demiurge on KOL. My goals in the game strictly pertain to doing Hardcore Oxygenarian runs. I am currently trying to collect all the passive skills that I find useful (I still have 20-some-odd left out of 30 or so), and I am saving up money to by Mr. Accessory items in the mall that will help with ascending, like the Libram of Candy Hearts summoning, and more importantly, the Tome of Snowcome Summoning. The new Mr. A item has caught my eye as something possibly worth getting as well.

What about the rest of you? What is your main mission on KOL?

Well, we had a death in the family recently. My grandmother's cousin, named Maxine, ended up passing on a week or so back, and this last weekend my parents went up to see her funeral. On their way back, they informed me that somehow I had managed to get onto this woman's will. I had met her all of about three times in my life or so, so I was rather bemused by this. Turns out, I received a small monetary inheritance from her, but I don't know how much that is exactly. However, after going over all of her stuff, my parents and my aunt and uncle found that no one had dibs on the car. They went through the proper channels, and my parents effectively paid for half the value of the car to my aunt and uncle and made it legally theirs. So, guess what I'm going to be getting?

      Witness the pimp mobile!

I'm thinking that I'm going to need some racing strips on this bitch, with hotrod flames coming off the side. Pneumatics would be ballin'. Oh, and of course, I'll need subwoofers in the trunk so my bumper will audibly vibrate as I drive down the road. To complete the picture, I'll put spinning hubcaps on my tires and put a sticker on my rear windshield that has my name in Old English font.

      Psyche.

      A comic.

When I'm done, I'll copyright all my stuff, start a thread, post lots of pictures, and go to great length explaining my story. Bring your critiquing cap; I would like some feedback when we get there.

So, I couldn't help but notice that the Earth was not consumed by a gigantic black hole the other day. Seems that the Large Hadron Collider went off without a hitch. With any luck, they should be able to perform experiments that could provide evidence that supports string theory.

They even have a webcam set up at the location to show the inner workings of the LHC.

So, I was walking into my dorm one night, when I hear a, "Hey Mike! Up here!"

I look up, and on top of the roof of the cafeteria attached to the dorm are two of my roommates, Jake and Alan. They tell me how to get up there, and instruct me to come up. I go to the third floor, walk into the lounge there, and find the side room where the vending machines are located. In the side room, a window is open, and the roof of the cafeteria lies beyond. I go out through the window and proceed to shoot the breeze with my friends for a little while. When we've decided we've had enough, we head back in. I was the first to go back into the side room with the vending machines, and as I walked into the lounge, I heard a guy say, "Holy crap, there are guys coming out of the vending machine."

Without missing a beat, I said, "Yeah. Hey, does anybody have a dollar? We still have a guy stuck in there."

As I was falling asleep last night, I had the song "Tattoo" stuck in my head by some contemporary female singer that I don't know the name of. At one point, the song goes:

You're on my heart just like a tattoo. (Just like a tattoo, I'll always have you I'll always have you, I'll always have you)...

I thought about it, and I felt it would be really funny if the words were changed to:

You're on my heart just like a tattoo. (Just like a tattoo, you'll need to be removed by a high intensity laser)...

we jsut use pictures to describe things in our RPs and it strikes that armour design is perfect for a super pseed character.

Yes, yes I did. Ironically the series (made by Decorgal) has gone downhill a bit recently, both in storyline, which is becoming a bit drawn out, and in film-making quality with all the keep changing frames to save on lip-synching and stuff, which makes me feel dizzy.

Yeah, I can do the base outlay, it's the texturing and shading that I would absolutely struggle with in a face of that detail.

As for the nudes, it's still odd when it's your girlfriend's father asking why.

Other than that, it's odd that you chose that root word and it ends up working in more than one way, the relation to Hyperion-Helios as them being creatures of fire, and he being a creature of the heavens directly related to the sun, which is a huge ball of fission-ing hydrogen. And I wasn't asking for that bit on Lucifer, I understood that with perfect clarity, I was asking if you ever went more in depth and did a layout of the comic or anything, it would be a great read.

I've got to go to sleep.

    • Novus_Virtus

Either gender, it's odd to explain to your girlfriend's dad when he spots the outline through the paper you're drawing on. Neutered or not (I don't draw that) it was still weird to explain to him.

And I was referring to Hyperion. You were mentioning Hyperion in Hypodeity, weren't you? He was one of the titans, named Helios-Hyperion, and in early classical mythology, was described as the god of the sun, but was later distinguished into two entities, Helios, god of the sun, and Hyperion, a titan who was father of the moon and the sun.

    • Novus_Virtus

I know what you're saying, and I know that a lot of artists do that, the only problem is that anyone who doesn't have a general understanding of art, doesn't get it, and it could be a bit akward if they saw that in your notebook heh.

Anyways, the Hypodeity ended up being a great practice for form that was easily explainable, and nice cross reference to Greek Mythology.

I would normally agree with you on skill over emulation, but I think that when learning, you can achieve a balance, an arguement sustained by comparison to...oh, let's do cars. You can always create a niche by making your own design, but you'll always end up following rules set by others because there's a certain balance in what you can do, in that case, design versus aerodynamics. In art, it's the taste of others, represented by the fact that it was pretty cool, and I wanted to draw it, so I made an excuse.

At any rate, I do draw a lot from life, I have a couple in my profile, just simple sketches of people. They're fun to do though, if challenging to create a design that works traslating what you see into two tone portraits that are simplefied but recognizable. I have what appears to be a consistant style though, which on one hand this early on is kind of frightening, I don't want to settle for how I'm doing, because it's mediocre at the very best, but it's also nice to know that I can have that consitancy in the future, although I still am looking for a good way to do eyes. I can draw them individually, but I've yet to find a style that matches.

Well, my rendition is complete, I will probably email it to you tomorrow. I would tonight, but my camera's batteries are dead, so I had to set them on the charger, and that will take...oh, I'd estimate approximately an hour, but I'll be going to sleep around then, then I have school in the morning, so sometime tomorrow afternoon. The right (the character's left) arm is kind of botched because it was lit up by light from my source on my left, and it was the only place where shadow didn't fall, and without realizing it, I compensated automatically, and I took it into the light to get a better picture, and realized it's much darker than the rest of the picture, I'll try to fix that when I get my erasor, but it's going to be a pain. Other than that, the results come with mixed appraisals, on one hand, I had to revamp yours a lot when I realized that I went off track with the individual pieces, but it ends up beings successful regardless I think. I'd say I'm about seventy percent satisfied with it.

By the way, where at roughly is Kirksville in correlation to the nearest large city? I'm curious because your email is marked as Truman, and I used to live in the area, in Belton, about fourty-five minutes north-west of Truman. I now reside in Kansas, still not too terribly far off though.

Your friend is saying some people don't like Mirror's Edge? I think that's untrue, so far, it seems to have appealed to many demographs of gamer. I have yet to try it myself, lack of funding.

just entred the shading stage, shouldn't take too long, I'm decent with that, it'll be hardest to keep the rocky look and keeping the things symmetrical again. I've ended up going with kind of a hybrid of a more traditional smooth shading mixed with repeated lines overlapping for shading and a bit of cross-hatching...it looks okay... I'm concerned for the left arm though, that was difficult, and I'm wondering how to cover that with shadows to hide the details that I've botched a bit, but I'm fairly pleased with how the right arm turned out.

I'm actually surprised at how the story is working out, I'm still not very far, the XBox has been hijacked by my roommates again (They've got Mass Effect playing right now) but my brother got further in than I did and I was watching the cut scenes and I found it pretty interesting. I think the gameplay is awesome, aside from the button controls which make my knuckles lock, but that's okay, I can manage. I'm also pretty impressed with the voice-overs. They're pretty good. I'm just enjoying it overall, I dunno why so many people are saying it's no good. *shrugs* I guess it's just not Halo, right? /sarcasm

    • Novus_Virtus

Oh, I do self edit, I understand the importance of it. I used to favour "manual dexiterity" (I do commend you on your choosing of words) but moved to quicker rougher sketches that I could edit more easily with many lines that eventually formed something I could then pencil over with smoother more defined lines until it was right, but I did that so much that neither of the two pencils I have at hand have any erasor on them, and I left my big erasor in my coat pocket in my locker, a bit problematic since I need it.

    • KaliYuga

What hooked me into the concept of Mirror's Edge in the first place was the fact that it was written by Terry Pratchett's daughter. I love Terry Pratchett, soI was hoping the story would be awesome. So far, it's living up to my expectations.

    • Novus_Virtus

That seems to be a perfectly acceptable compromise, and it's great that you're having a good time progressing with your artwork.

I will refrain from posting it until you procure a copyright, but if you message me your email, I would like to show you the final product. I don't have the skills to essentially do it piece for piece, so I'm more working with the general concept, and it's not turning out too bad the first time, not too satisfied with what I have, but at least if I were in your shoes, I'd be interested in someone else's take on my design, just message me if you would like to see mine. I might yet do a couple more attempts until I get a finished product I'm happy with. Right now, I put down the wire frame, and am penciling in some of the body lines, and am finding that the hardest part is keeping the proportions right, and keeping the body symmetrical with the angles and keeping everything even, it's a challenge, but I'm enjoying it.

      And thank you very much.
