Many of you probably knew that my Grandpa had been up and down the past few years with his health. Many of you knew it was strokes and that we almost lost him three years ago. He recovered and could live normally for a while but then a month ago he had another stroke and it did quite a bit of damage. They moved him to a nursing home and we knew it was one step closer to his passing. Then he had a bad stroke Friday night. We did not expect him to make it through the weekend and he didn't. From what my mom said, it's better that I didn't see him when he was bad because it was a pretty hard sight to see. He passed away tonight. He's leaving behind a wife of 64 years, 10 kids, 30 grandkids (15 boys/15 girls), and 14? great grandkids. Also what would be considered an adopted son. A boy in the neighborhood that didnt have great parents so my grandma and grandpa took him in when they could. He's now the head of the SWAT Team for the LAPD and bodyguards on the side. Including people like Jack Nicholson which is pretty cool. Grandpa's sons are all successful in business, many graduating from UNI and one even has his won wine business now and owns several vineyards and a winery. Others have gone on to be successful chiropractors. His four daughters have raised great families and all have careers of their own, all of them in the medical field in some capacity. He was able to raise all these people to be successful and deal with his lovable wife he happens to be very much Irish and very much Catholic and more than qualified with the discipline. I know its tough on her so I ask for your prayers for her. What I'm getting at here is that Richard Leese is leaving behind quite a legacy. If you measure success by how your children turn out, then he was as successful as they come.

I knew this was going to happen and knew that he wouldn't suffer any more after a few years of it. This made it a lot easier to accept. Still I cant help but think of stories with him. The time my parents were in Hawaii and I stayed with grandpa and grandma and they took care of me while I had the flu. I won't forget the fact he drove a hearse for most of his life (at least when I knew him). I won't forget the Volvo they have had for 23 years and how even though I was only barely able to talk, I recognized every Volvo as the car that he (Bompa as I called him back then) drove. I'll remember going over to their house and seeing the many models of street cars he had made. Most of all, I'll remember him sitting in his chair next to his radio and police scanner. The blue and silver scanner that I've seen several times a year for 23 years. I'll remember him being a Cub fan and Cardinal fan but cheering for the Cards when they played each other. I'll remember the ONE TIME he finally said something to my grandma when she was nagging him. I love my grandma dont get me wrong here, but she gets bossy. We were glad to see him finally stand up for himself. Not that it's abusive or anything. It was more comical than hurtful. Not really hurtful at all. (Hope that was explained well). I'll remember him dancing to YMCA even when his legs wouldn't allow him to stand. I'll remember his quiet demeanor. I'll remember the fact I get road rage from him any time I get it from now on. "What color of GREEN do you want?" he would say. I'll remember my Aunt honking the horn to wave at him and him flipping her off not knowing who it was and later saying that he was giving her the "Peace Sign" or at least half of it. Also the fact he smoked daily and never had any health problems because of it. I'll also remember how much the man loved beer. Not an alcoholic but a true German with his love for a good beer. I'll remember him parked in front of a little black and white TV every Thanksgiving, watching football at Holy Family School in Davenport. And finally, I'll remember that I never heard the man complain about anything EVER. Haha I guess I'll also remember what he said when my aunt finally divorced her husband about the way he REALLY felt about the guy.

Grandpa was an example of how to lead ones life. Put your trust in God, love your family, enjoy your work, and not worry about anything else. Take an extra job during the holidays driving a taxi or what have you to be able to give your kids something to open on Christmas morning. Love your wife even if hell hath no fury like a pure Irish Catholic woman. Proof that if you base your marriage on LOVE that you can be married 64 years and still love each other. In today's world where you are more likely to get divorced than stay married, thats one heck of an example of what to strive for. My family was blessed to have him as a part of it. We are blessed that this is the first member of the family that we are losing (weve beaten cancers and car accidents). We were bleessed to have the last few years especially considering many feared he wouldn't have made it this long.

I ask that you pray for my family, especially my oldest cousins who were a few years younger than my uncles. This is like losing a dad to them. And for my Aunt who is the one that has been with him the most the past few days. She's the one that had to explain a lot of what was going on to us who aren't so medically inclined. She's diabetic and the stress has been affecting her health. She's ok but the prayers for strength could help. Thanks for those of you that read this but also those of you who are simply going to pray. God bless and good night.

someone was requesting that i update this, so here goes...

one of my good freinds is in a reallyl crappy Zombie movie called Dead Men Walking he plays a security guard is all but it was cool to see him in it. Can't totally say that it is worth seeing though. Full of the typical buckets of blood, bad acting, and of corse since it takes place in prison, a conjacle (SP) visit. Great if you like Zombie movies or seeing strippers I mean actresses with fake boobs and even faker accents getting eaten by aliens, i mean zombies.

      ITS REALLY F-ING COLD OUT!

Ok, still not done with homework...decided to go out instead....anywho...

I like having my first class after noon. Very nice for me. Though I wish it were tomorrow since I am up so late. Oh well.

UNI: TV was a basic review of Begining Writing. Though we got to see some CNN footage that was the footage without a voice-over or explanation of what it was. Pretty damn confusing actually. There was a guy that looked like the Japanese version of Richard Gere. Seriously, they looked a lot a like.

After that was Oral Interpretation. The class still made me nervous. Its fun but I have no idea what the heck we are supposed to do or what is going on. And its not necessary. And I'm a music director for KULT. And as of tomorrow night, an announcer for sports there. And on DC at St. Stephens. And in a TV production class that the professor is saying its a buttload of work. And a Film class that means I have to watch a movie with the class Wednesday afternoons. Plus Tuesday night is the KULT meeting and my radio show. And Wednesday is Primetime mass. And RCIA is Sunday plus mass. Yeah, if its not necessary and a lot of work. Maybe I should drop it. Even if I might enjoy it. I want to have too much time, than not enough time.

So I met with my advisor and dropped it and my philosophy minor. I only picked that up so I would have something to take. Actually I picked both up just so I would have something to take. After that I ran down and did the music director thing. Its really fun to talk to the people on my contact list. Daniel had about 3 Red Bulls but was still really tired so he was goofy. That added with my ability for complete randomness and ability to drop random movie lines of movies few people have seen or lines nobody can remember meant it was a fun conversation that nobody else could understand. Hmm...me being random and talking and refering to stuff nobody knows about...kinda like my blog...er umm...beach blanket surprise!

Came home, after letting my car warm up for 10 minutes. DAMN its cold out. Seriously f-ing cold. Its the type of cold that you actually notice, holy crap its really cold out. The walk from the theatre building to Lang should be "lovely" tomorrow. By lovely I mean rancid, cold, terrible, and I'll no longer feel my own face. Damn weather.

I did a little bit of homework and then hung out with my freind Dan for a whlie. We ran to Tony's for an hour or so. Then to Jimmy Johns.

I probably should have done homework. Oh well, what can you do.

Soooo. all that NASTY weather we were supposed to get the past few days and MOST DEFINATELY today...never came. Yay for that.

Acting was fun today. We got to discuss actors or performances we were moved by. Its always interesting to get some insights into "the industry" from our professor. Its going to be a fun class too. A bunch of Electronic Media students, a few other majors, and a cheerleader.

The walk to our next class was a long one. We were only 5 minutes late today. Fun class as Ronnie's tend to be. Everyone gave Ryan crap since NOBODY misses hockey. Hey now, there are some of us. Not many, but there are some.

Lunch with Melissa after that. The place was packed. I waited hours to get my chili. Then I went to get some ketchup as the fries were cooking. The ketchup runs out ahead of me. The girl turns to me and says some snide comment like "oh that sucks, guess you'll have to find some more somewhere else." Yeah, I think there were high schoolers there today. They all looked young and were paying for meals in cash. College students don't pay for meals at a dining center in cash, they charge that to the U-Bill or use their Dining Dollars. That and the attitude of the girl above suggest high school. That oh so pleasant attitude. Hey I may be a sarcastic SOB but at least I wouldn't say some rude thing like that to somebody. I'd say "oh that sucks" or something.

Film Theory was fun. I was talking to people about shows that we used to watch as kids. Anamaniacs (especially Pinky and the Brain), Tiny Toons, Tail Spin, Hey Dude, Salute Your Shorts, Transformers the Movie, Today's Special (that show with the manicans that came to life at night - my FAV as a kid) and Duck Tails to name a few. It was funny to hear people remember shows they used to love. Oddly enough, Orson Welles, whose in the lovely overkilled Citizen Kane was also in Transformers the Movie. In fact, it was the last project he did before he died. It came full circle! I bring up Transformers the Movie in before class then the professor (who wasn't there before class) ends up talking about it in class. I'm a damn pimp yo!

Then I had a problem to solve. The film viewing didn't let out until after 5:30 and the Shuttle stops running at 5. So how am I going to get home if this nasty weather hits. I have time until the movie starts at 3:30 since its only 1:50. So I took the Shuttle home and grabbed my car and parked in a B lot hoping not to get a ticket. I didn't. Yay me. There was also a guy talking about how communication students should be better at Texas Hold'em Poker. I never thought of that but its true. We are trained to read people. And you do that in poker. I need to polish up my skills and give Phil Helmuth a reason to cry...though he'd pout like a little baby anyway. Don't know who he is, watch the World Series of Poker. It won't take long to see it.

Citizen Kane wasn't as bad as I thought it would be the 5th time around. I was actually entertained. I still tire of everyone proclaiming it to be the friggin Bible of films. And the Susan lady is so annoying. She whines and can't sing and her voice is just really damn irritating. The lady who played her did a wonderful job. I didn't know anyone could sing that bad. Orson Welles was a heck of an actor though. Can't believe he was the same age as me when he did this movie. That just boggles the mind.

After that was a quick meal and then off to the Panther basketball game. I ended up finding Miles, whom I'm going to be announcing women's games with soon. In fact I'll be doing the color commentary for Friday's game. Malia soon joined us. It was a decent game. We had a good lead that we almost lost. Hmm anyone remember when we were beating Cincinnati by 18 and then went into 2OT's only to lose. Oh yeah, the are ranked in the Top 20 right now, Cincinati is. We had them BEAT. And lost. Not good. We need to protect the lead better. Our freshman center had a nice dunk though. And he also almost made an alley-oop. The refs were terrible though. I think they just took some guys from Foot Locker and told them to pretend to be refs.

Second day of my new classes...only 2 today

TV Production should be fun but also challenging. Its going to take a lot more time than I thought. So something may have to be dropped. I'm thinking that my second class of the afternoon is a goner. I was suprised how few people I knew in my class this time. But there was a kid in there that wants to do somethign with sports, just like me, and we are going to work for the radio station, broadcasting games.

Second class. Oral Interpretation. That girl I keep going on and on about was in that with my freind Melissa. I'm waiting in the hall and find out that Teri's in my class. Its cool to have a class with her. Then guess who walks up but the girl that I just mentioned a minute ago. Damn, I thought I was never going to see her again. I honestly did. Yeah, it made my day to talk to her again. After she left, I pointed out the fact that was THE girl to Teri. She said "oh, good you never said anything if she isn't single then." Very good point. The class itself was really fun but its going to be a lot of work. We had to grab somethign out of a bag and we had no idea what it was. Literally, it was like what the hell is this thing? We had to tell a story as whatever thing we grabbed. This was totally up my alley for my imagination. Still, the class is going to be A LOT of work. And its not totally necessary. Hmmm. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Ran home after that. Then it was back to the Union for the first KULT meeting of the semester. Got a lot done. I guess I'm going to be doing a few girls basketball games soon. Then I'm going to be working on baseball games when that season rolls around. Holy Cow! I could be on my way to my dream of working at Wrigley. Hey, we all have to start somewhere.

The roads were fine coming home. But the sidewalk was a disaster. I could not walk. I had to slide my way to the door. I'd move my feet and slide about 5 feet. I'm surprised nobody broke their neck today. It was slick as hell to get into ROTH. I did homework and putzed around all night until our hall meeting. Is there anything more pointless than those? Seriously. Give me the time I spent, back. Oh, I also talked to Dan about getting an apartment next year. Almost as soon as I hung up the phone. One of my roommates came back and reminded me why I want out of ROTH...in fact he's doing it right now....yargh

So I got a lot accomplished today...I guess. Or I'm going to get some things rolling.

      First day of class...

And I actually woke up on time...early in fact. We'll see how long this lasts but with my classes being this good, I doubt I'll want to sleep instead of going to class...unlike in the past. Ahem.

Acting. I get to the building. First entrance and it leads to a few doors and nothing else. Next entrance is closed with Caution tape and stuff. I go through the next entrance but there are no numbers for the rooms. I run into some other girl thats in the same boat as me. We have no idea where the heck we are supposed to go. Some lady is kind enough to say its downstairs. Stairs? She leads us to some double doors and we head to the basement. Strayer-Wood Theatre has a basement? Ok. We find the room. Empty and pitch black. We see a huge area with couches and stuff. We head there. Now, I'm not expecting to know a single soul in this class. As Teri said last night, its cool that you don't know anyone in the class. Dylan walks in and then some more e. media students. Its a fun group though. Our teacher is really cool.

But we have to make it from the SWT to Lang in 10 minutes! Are you kidding me. Thats not possible. Heck, we even have to go to the 3rd floor and most out of the way room in Lang. At least we have a group though. Everyone is in that class. Half the staff of KULT, and a lot of kids I have class with before. It should be a fun class. We're discussing the effects of violent content on people and whether it makes them violent. Paisley used me to prove my point. We had to list all the games we play a lot right now. All mine were violent, Madden, Halo 2, Burnout 3, GTA, and wrestling. Hmmm. Paisley pointed out "Yeah but you got J.T. whose like the least violent guy ever and he plays nothing but violent games". Damn straight yo!....was that violent? er...umm bludgeon?

Anyway, lunch with Melissa and her freind Katie. Cool kids. After that I went to my film class. A few familiar faces but mostly new faces. Its going to be a fun class though. Cawelti teaches another film class after that so I stayed. I want to drop one class and this peaks my interest why not. Heck I'm sitting there with Ned, Dylan, and Paisley and Dan of all people walks in. A class with these guys is like bubble paper. Just waaaay more fun than it should be. Until we get into the class and I see how much work has to be done. About 60 pages to read a night, a 12 page paper and...yeah not taking that. If I didn't have work at the station or church. I'd try it. No wait, I wouldn't. Thats waaaay too much work for me. The class itself would rock though.

After that, got my books, stopped at St. Stephens, and got a haircut. Then I hung out with Katie and Melissa again. We made spaghetti. Amazing that none of us knew how. It turned out all right but the sauce was too damn hot. Like burning your hand on contact hot. So we had to wait for that to cool down. By the time it finally did (including my decision to put it in the fridge) the noodles had cooled too. Oh well. Watched Cocktail. Good movie. Typical hollywood bs ending. Sigh. Yup, I'm an emedia major with a minor in film studies if I want the UNHAPPY ending. c'mon, its unconventional.

Came home to beat the crappy weather that is supposed to be crapping on us. Lets see here...3 days of freezing rain. F-. Icy roads. Damn. I hate the weather hear. Crap like this in winter and humid as hell in summer. Yay us. Boo mother nature. yay naughty by nature.

      Oh yeah, Super Troopers OWNS!

Got up really late today and it was football all day. I can't believe that my 3 teams are OUT! The Chargers, Seahawks, and now Packers. I expected the Seahawks to lose. They limped their way in to the playoffs. But SD and Breen Bay were supposed to win. And I HATE the Vikings. Especially Moss.

Mike and Zach are back. Mike was all excited. Which raised the question...hey Mike why are you excited? We have school tomorrow...aren't you dreading that? Mike said that its good to be back because home was boring. No disagreement by anyone in our suite. Home was boring. Really boring. This is my home now. Still...going to class sucks.

Mass rhymes with class so we'll go there next. There were more people than I expected tonight. So that made me happy. I haven't been to mass in a while though. I couldn't go the weekend I got out of here because I was flying and Cancun doesn't have a church. Then we flew home on Christmas. And then I got stranded in the ice during New Years and couldn't make mass. So this was the first time I was actually able to make mass, and did so. It felt good to get back. It was also nice to see some familiar faces again. Though it sucks that some faces aren't there. But its worse for them to not be there. I know they miss it.

I also hung out with Melissa and her freind from home Katie. Cool kids. I felt a touch out of place though. They have been freinds for years and years so there were a lot of jokes that were right over my head. In fact a lot of it was over my head. It was great to see this side of a couple of people though. How often do you get to see people that are that comfortable with each other? We watched Night at the Roxbury. I wasn't impressed. Not a bad movie, don't get me wrong. But you're not missing much either. Oh, and we split a pizza. Thats another thing that is awesome about being back. The Papa John's here OWNS! Best pizza this side of Harris Pizza in the Quad Cities.

So it was 1:30 and I was going to head to bed...then my friend Will called and said I needed to go drink and watch some anime thing I'd heard of but didn't know anything about. I hadn't seen him in a long ass time, so why not. I wasn't that tired anyway. So now I'm getting home at 4 am. It was a cool show, Full Metal Alchimest. Will was pretty toasted which was funny of course. I didn't drink at all cuz its crappy out and I didn't want a DUI. Its not worth it. I've never had one, never want to get one. Plus I didn't feel like drinking though...

The Chargers blew it. Everyone wants to blame Kaeding but lets face it folks, they didn't play that well. They should have dominated the Jets but they barely hung with them. It was a GREAT game though. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Some questionable calls at the end cost them though. Play calls that is. I hope Kaeding is ok. I guess the Jets "played to win the game". Oh well, the Chargers still had a tremendous season.

The Seahawks also lost as the Seahawks like to lose. They are so good at shooting themselves in the foot, its amazing they made it to the playoffs. Then you see their record of 8-8 and realize they won their division with that record and promptly lose all respect for the NFC. Thats just pathetic. Oh, and Holmgren is still a good coach. His players just under perform.

Other than that, I moved back up to school. I finally got through all of the Led Zeppelin CD's. "Coda" was pretty good. Though "In Through the Out Door" is better.

I have school tomorrow. That sucks. Cue the McDonald's music...
