Well, here's another reminder, wholly governmentally endoresed, that I haven't found that special someone. *sigh* This entry is for all my fellow romantics spending this night alone. While you're making yourself dinner, watching tv or a movie tonight, or even fragging others out of sheer frustration, just know we're all there with ya.

It can't be all depressing though. If it weren't for Valentines Day then we wouldn't have the reason to push ourselves to do the unexpected next time. New Years is for chumps. It's time for Valentines' Resolutions. I hereby resolve to do things differently than I normally have been, give others the benefit of the doubt, and above all else, TURN OFF MY BRAIN AND THROW FEAR TO THE CARRION BIRDS!! I don't take my own advice, and that's after i was telling Punkgirl what to do.

So here's your wisdom for the week (and life):

Follow your heart. Don't dwell on impulse for too long or your head will talk your heart out of the current plan of action. What's the worst that can happen? The earth will not stop turning...the universe will not cease to red shift...and Zeus will not drop a thunderbolt on your arse. Hoepfully I can take my own words to heart.

      "Let Go"

      Drink up baby down
Are you in or are you out?
      Leave your things behind
'Cause it's all going off without you
Excuse me too busy you're writing your tragedy
      These mishaps
      You bubble-wrap
When you've no idea what you're like

      [Chorus]
      So, let go,let go
      Jump in
Oh well, what you waiting for?
      It's all right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
      So, let go, l-let go
      Just get in
      Oh, it's so amazing here
      It's all right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown

It gains the more it gives
And then it rises with the fall
      So hand me that remote
Can't you see that all that stuff's a sideshow?
      Such boundless pleasure
      We've no time for later
      Now you can't await
      your own arrival
      you've twenty seconds to comply

      [Chorus]
So, let go, so let go
      Jump in
Oh well, what you waiting for?
      It's alright
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
So, let go, yeah let go
      Just get in
      Oh, it's so amazing here
      It's all right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown

      [background sounds]

      [Chorus]
So, let go, so let go
      Jump in
Oh well, what you waiting for?
      It's alright
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
So, let go, yeah let go
      Just get in
      Oh, it's so amazing here
      It's all right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown

      In the breakdown
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
      The breakdown

      So amazing here
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown

Anyone catch that great action? I mean, get a load of the streaker! And all those clydesdales! I'm glad there were those sports commercials or I'd never find a chance to take a bathroom break. But seriously, if the Giants couldn't win this one then I'm glad the Steelers pulled it off. I went to college with Antoine Randelel; the guy's got a lot of talent. He also graduated with a decent degree so he's got my respect ;-) So really, who out there watches the SB for the commercials? I know I do. When was the last time the M&M's had a commercial? Seems like forever. The highlight this time around has got to be the "Magic Fridge" commercial. Who's with me?

On a personal note, I took up the guitar this week. I already play a bunch of woodwinds so how hard could it be, right? Ok, I can read music better than anyone I know but DANG! So far i got strings and frets 1 - 3 semi under control. You should hear me rock out to Yankee Doodle. Practiced for about 3 hours last night...got a blister on my thumb. Guess that means I'm on my way to stardom, no?

Another great concert at the Bird this past weekend. Again...too much cuervo. I do believe I inadvertantly walked in to the "Band Only" room on my way to the bar area after the concert...man did they have surprised looks on their face. Mildly embarassing. And yes, I was following a girl so I guess I got an excuse? Why is it so hard finding a woman that wants to go out some time instead of just having a single night of excitement? Feh, guess I'm just a hopeless romantic.

Alright, I need to leave this on a positive note...impart some of my worldly wisdom on "all y'all" (that's southern plural for "All of you". By the way, I'm from NY...just learned that in GA). Let me think for second...ok, this isn't going anywhere fast. Alright, I figured it out...this is the importance of Breakfast everyone. If you don't have your morning meal, by the time it's lunch you just can't think straight and you wind up typing a journal entry on the keyboard, babbling, when as soon as you finish it you can go to lunch, but NO! You have to finish this entry for some unforseen reason...and that reason is because hunger affects the brain :-) Later all...I'm getting something to eat.

      Ahem...I am the MASTER!...and the commander :-)

Guess who's burning out on Backup Administration? No...guess again. Dang, come on people, it's me of course! At least it's not boring and time sems to fly when you're floundering. On the bright side things seem to have finally gotten under some control.

80's Rock was awesome and DMB on Saturday was great...too much Cuervo though. How many times do I have to say it? When shots of Cuervo are $0.75 each, shtuff is going to go down. For the most part it was relatively civilized. Although, I've come to the realization that if I want to play the "What did I do last night?" game, the correct number of shots to take is 6 - 8 over the course of the evening. As far as I remember (yeah, I played the game...and this is a Journal...so I won't forget) I got in to a minor arguement with the friend of a girl who chastised me for dancing with her friend. I believe the words hurled at me were, "Her boyfriend is over there. he's going to kick your $&%^##& @$$". Where my retort was "A) I'm 6'3", 220lbs, and I know Martial Arts...the only person in that club that can kick my ass is the bouncer (who just happened to be my old Sensei...no way in hell I'm messing with him); and B) Maybe her boyfriend should be dancing with her?" Because that's how i roll. What? Did you think I was a beligerant drunk? Nah, I'm a teddy bear and I give great hugs :-) And masages :-) Ok, moving on... I vaguely remember fawning over another girl for spelling my last name correctly (well that was strange) and I do believe I kissed her hand...NOTE TO SELF: Lay off the Cuervo. Her friends, as I "recall", were blind stinking sober so...what did that look like? On the plus side she responded to me on TheFacebook so all's well :-)

So as I end this little rant, I feel I need to leave you with some words of wisdom. Hmm...let me dig deep...hey, a quarter! What else do I got in here? So that's what happened to my Drivers License. Ok, if there is anything I can impart on you, whenever you go out the night before, if you are ever in doubt, make sure to wear the same pair of pants...it'll save you from awkwardness at a later time. But that's another story :-)

It's been a while since I updated this thing, hasn't it? Well, there doesn't appear to be any sign of vacation for some time to come and as usual these days, my time is occupied by banging my head against the keyboard trying to figure out Tivoli Storage Manager since I've been put in control of on-site / off-site backups. There's nothing quite like being asked to research a and evaluate a system for usage at a site and then, since you're the one who now knows how to semi-use it, it becomes one of your duties. TSM...the print server...kick start for linux...UPS powerchute...on the plus side I'm building a pretty nice resume here. On the down side I haven't quite mastered any of this so I'm still in the moderate, freak-out stage. When is the next vacation anyway? At least I got weekends to look forward to. This one is going to be pretty nice too. Hairbangers Ball, a classic rock tribute band will be playing at the BlueBird on Friday (I do love my 80's), and the Dave Matthews Cover Band on Saturday. Oh, that, 2 new Roosterteeth videos, a new StrongBad e-mail...this week ain't so bad afterall. Just a few more days to go as well. Uhm...W00t! Take it easy all.

Well, I'm back from the Carribean. Hope everyone had a good holiday and New Years. Were you aware that Cozumel sunkduring one of the recent hurricanes? It was news to me but Costa Maya was nice too...even if I don't have any haggling skill and ended up paying $20 for a polyester island shirt. Man, that was a long boat ride. 8 days is just waaay too long to be stuck on a ship. I'll see about getting some of the better pictres up in the near future.

Oh, word to the wise: If someone tapes you doing Karaoke of a song that is not remotely anywhere near your vocal range...it's not a good idea to watch and or listen to it yourself. I think I shot a few of my nerves in the first millisecond. Living on a Prayer...what the hell was I thinking?

Well, I feel I should get this down now since I probably won't have another chance come tonight. Come Monday I'll be boarding the cruise ship cound for uncharted waters; adventure on the high seas! Then after I wake up from my euphoria we'll probably just follow the navigation charts provided by the cruise line and head towards the pre-determined ports of call. Anyway, it should prove to be a major source of buffet, burning to a crisp in the sun, and very much discounted alcohol and illegal Cuban Cigars if you're adventurous enough to try and bring them back home. This year should be slightly more interesting as I hear there are a bt more amenities on this cruise than in yester-years, such as skeet-shooting off the back of the boat. I haven't done that in about a decade. Anywho, I'll be sure to take lots of pictures and catch you all in about a week and a half.

Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukah! Good Kwanza! I appologize if I forgot any other holidays. Oh, and Happy New years!

This past weekend made me think about all those cruises to the Caribean I've been on. Just think about it, every day a ship drops anchor in port and thousands upon thousands of well to do people disembark, and pretty much make themselves at home in someone elses front yard. For the first time I think I finally got a taste of my own medicine...if even as a spectator.

Finals are over here at IU and all the students have pretty much made an Exodus from campus leaving the locals to rule over their domain. Saturday, I got talked in to going to the Bluebird to check out a Gunz n' Rozes cover band called Paradise City...I'l admit it, they were awesome. Now, on a weekend like this the club is usually packed with the usual suspects...you got your Frat boys with their pink shirts and popped collars (Can't wait to get in to a fight with one of them, but anyway...moving on), Sorostitutes (you can pick them out no problem), Geeks (Slightly out of place but hey, trying to have fun), Jocks (Fresh from the football field), and Stoners (too much facial hair and / or somewhat goth). Now this is a nice mix of people, and the norm for a weekend out. Well, the ship has left port, and took the normal crowd with it. What we're left with is the local color, and might I say a somewhat shallow dip in the gene pool. Now I know for a fact there were no proms that weekend but that didn't stop a few of the ladies from showing up in full dress. It also didn't stop mom from taking her 21 year old daughter out to the bars for her birthday...and to Taco Bell afterwards (yeah, I was there). Now the 18 years old stripper...not sure how she got in to the club but hey, the lead signer signed *her* none the less and had no qualms with showing it off. Come to think of it, none of the ladies had a problem with it. Also, when did going to the dentist become passe? I happen to like my full set of teeth in my opinion.

So to sum it up, coming from the east coast I don't think I'll ever classify myself as a Hoosier. Also, I can't wait to get a cleaning from the dentist...I feel like I've been taking my chompers for granted as of late. The band did rock though...ah hell, it was a pretty good time. You shoulda been there.

Well, I took my 64oz of beer like a man and made it home by 1am so I got up for work just fine. Go me.

Interesting day so far. Got to work and got the message that the director forgot the Root pasword to the linux box that controls the all-important X-ray machine. Great...not that anyone needed to change anything on this system for at least 5 years but lets take a look. Resetting root passwords on a linux box is a snap with the use of Knoppix CD and a few commands but of course this system had to be difficult. For starters, the Bios does not suport booting from the CD-rom drive. And why is that? Because it's an IBM from 6 years ago...a PIII 450mhz pos running Debian Linux and a Reiser filesystem. No, I don't know what that means either only no one uses it anymore and any tools you'd use to interact with it may end up borking the system. Fantastic. Well, after rebooting the machine ~6 times with minimal heart attacks that it actually took 6 reboots to get the OS back up, it was decided that it probably would be best not to touch it.

And the kicker? The root pasword was needed because the users are too lazy to print from an alternate machine. They HAVE to print from this one. The critical one that if it fails something BAD will happen. Woohoo. Someone say...PRIORITIES!!

Ok, that's the morning for ya. Lunch was nice. My old boss from my previous job got an offer from LSU to head the tech department so we had a goodbye lunch for her. Got back just in time to hear carolling from down the hall where there was a supposed "Christmas Party" going on. Dodged that bullet nicely. Grabbed my free diet coke from the barrel of ice and made back to my computer in one piece. Again....go me!

Alright. Last time I tried this it didn't end well...on multiple accounts. Tonight, at the Bluebird, local band going by the name 40% Steve will be playing their final concert of the semester. Interesting enough, only 20% of the band is currently "Steve" since it underwent "Steve" reduction surgery, but still tastes like regular "Steve". Anyway, whoever is still left on campus will be swarming this place tonight which means any 19 year old with a fake ID will be in attendance. Should make for a much debaucherous time indeed. But I get away from my point...

I got talked in to going to the bars durring the week last time they played and of course, as luck would have it, $.15 beers. I know what you're thinking, I got drunk and 'euked all over the place. NO! Shame on you for even thinking that. But I did have way to many, got to bed around 4 and woke up a few hours later to go to work. THAT was NOT a fun morning. Didn't wake up next to anyone either. Oh well, surprise meeting at work too. Nothing like spacing at the conference table in front of the facility director for an hour and a half. Not sure I got anything done that day but it did keep me from going sledding on the biggest snow storm we will probably have this year.

The moral of the story is, I like pie. Preferably apple. If you're going to bring a pie desert to dinner, make sure it's apple. That is all.

(P.S. - If I can remember anything that happens tonight I'll try to remember to update this with something meaningful)

On the high note, I managed to roll out of bed this morning. The network diagram for the building needs some serious work done to it so the project for the rest of the week will be scouring the racks, closets, and anywhere else I can crawl to find little labels taped to network cables with numbers on them in an effort to discover which wire goes where. If only this had been done correctly the first time I wouldn't have to do it now...lesson to the rest of you.

Here's something to ponder...why do people that can't do technology things for themselves look down on the IT department when they clearly need help?
