So the Grifball forum is basically shut down. I'm not sure why I really hung out here anymore anyway, but with the last reason to remain here gone, I will no longer be spending time on the RT forums.

Feel free to look me up on Facebook - but please do let me know who the hell you are!

    • So I built a distortion pedal.

      pwnmessiah

I follow a guitar related blog at tonefiend.com. Recently, the writer has been posting instructions to build your own guitar pedals. How could I refuse!?

      www.seymourduncan.com/tonefiend/guitar/build-the-worlds-wickedest-overdrive-for-under-30/

Based on the blog, I built a pedal based on a Dallas Rangemaster, a cool old 'treble booster' which also happened to distort your signal slightly - and distort your signal a LOT if it was slightly modified. The build took me three or four hours, but knowing everything I learned from this it could surely be done in maybe two hours. I called my pedal the Rarrmaster 2000

Check out my pics and clips below.

Just a little something I had been working on and then forgot about. It's a short clip of something I thought was awesome that never quite grew into something not-short like I had hoped. Worried about the audio quality? It was recorded on my iPhone! Don't notice the audio quality? Be amazed at the wonders of modern technology!!!

    • Mediocre Savants.

      Possibly offensive journal?

Today at work an elderly lady came up to me as I was on a register. She bought some assorted items and two candy bars - the candy bars were for her adult son. He was perhaps forty, unshaven, dressed in an old t-shirt - clearly looked incapable of looking after himself. He muttered and looked around - when I smiled at him he turned away from me - he clearly was clearly disabled in some way.

The total for the items was $13.27, and I held out my hand as she counted money from her purse and her son watched intently. She must have misheard me because she handed me $13.21. I repeated the amount and she apologized and reached into her purse for a nickel and a penny and gave them to me. I recounted the money and was about to complete the transaction, when the man said - with all the conviction in the world that he had just discovered the meaning of life - '13 27? that's the exact change'.

For whatever reason I found the idea of this man being a hugely mediocre savant hugely amusing. I had to suppress my smile as I completed the transaction.

I don't know if this story makes me a bad person. But here's a picture.

      600full-rain-man-screenshot.jpg

      $13.27? That's the exact change!

Qatar just won the right to host the 2022 world cup over Australia and the United States.

Qatar, with a population of under two million, who has never even played in the World Cup, who currently has only one stadium with a capacity greater than 25000, beat the United States and Australia, multi-cultural countries which rich histories of 'underdog' football triumph over adversity...

Because they threw enough money at FIFA? Because they made enough deals with voting nations? Would you travel to Qatar to watch your team play in the World Cup? How is the decisions possibly going to advance football in any part of the world other than Qatar, who has a population one tenth of Australia and one 150th of the United States?

      This is freaking ridiculous.

      Outraged Penguin is outraged.

There are a few things I wanted to get off my chest.

Although I've known you for less than a week, I feel that already we've developed a pretty strong connection. It's like I've always known you were coming but had to wait forever (six years, to be precise) for you to arrive, and now that you're here I am having some strange 'feelings' for you.

In the interest of open communication between us, I thought that we should discuss areas that we could improve upon. Areas which fall a little bit short of expectations. Specifically, my expectations. Of you.

For example, before we met, you told me that you would have 1000 cars. 1000! What a number!!! A little closer to your arrival, you admitted that of those 1000, 800 were actually 'standard' models as opposed to the fancier 'premium' ones. Which really isn't a big deal if you don't mind living without cockpit view, realistic damage, non-pixelated shadows, and photo travel mode. It's cool, I don't expect those from most games, so it's probably not fair to expect them from you, even if those seemed like part of your 'selling point'.

I also didn't expect that it would be quite so difficult to find my way around you. Clearly underneath all the clothing there's an amazing racing simulator, but getting there, well it's quite a hassle, wouldn't you think? Really, a lot of that clothing is pretty bulky, half of it could probably go and nobody would miss it. And you wouldn't nag me about doing the laundry.

Speaking of bad habits, why is it that you always default your brake balance to 50/50? You see, as a Gran Turismo and 'racing simulator' fan, I prefer to drive with all of the assists, Anti Lock Braking included switched off. I don't know about you, but trying slow down from 180mph is pretty tough when the rear brakes lock up if I so much as breathe on the pedal. Hell, even a Forza Motorsport fan would know that your brake bias should be way towards the front if you enjoy keeping your car pointed in the right direction.

All of that being said, and here is where I get to my point, I forgive you, and I accept you even with all of your flaws, however BLINDINGLY OBVIOUS some of them may be. The five hours that I spent last night driving go-karts with you were the most fun I've had electronically in the last six months, and I couldn't possible stay mad at you. And to think, we've not even been together for a week! Think of the possibilities our future holds. Imagine what we could accomplish, together!

How many races will I drive on your 26 beautiful courses and 71 different configurations?
How many of your cones will I knock over on my quest to hit gold on all of your tough but rewarding license tests?
How many of my peers will talk the lapped traffic into trying to take me out because my lead is so great on a kart race on one of my long time favourite tracks of yours, Autumn Ring?
And how many more surprises do you have in store for me? What are the 'Extreme' series races? Please, please tell me they are endurance races. Nothing else could make me so happy!

So, Gran Tursimo 5, I just wanted to let you know that I love you. And that no matter what anyone else says, you will always be dear to my heart. And that if anyone reading this wants to experience some of what I'm talking about they should join us some evening. My playstation ID is pwnguinmessiah.

I have finished uploading song number two of 'The songs that should've been on My Friend Penguin but were not'. It's short, but it's one my favourite pieces ever. Again, quick and simple video to accompany it. For a long time the song didn't have a name, but when I was choosing what video to put up with it, the song named itself, as you will see.

The clip is from Jorgen Leth's famous movie 'Stars and Watercarriers', documenting the 1973 Giro d'Italia. Check it out.

      Like Something in a Dream.

The audio for these clips is not all it could be, thanks to video compression and all that. When I'm finished, I'll put up some high quality mp3s for download.

Oh, I definitely, most certainly approve.

In the next week or two, if I have time and remember, I'm going to do something with that. Or at least I'll try. Hopefully what I do will motivate you to finish that amazing, fine-tuned longer version :).

We actually just went over that subject in my Sound Arts class. That would be the Noise Floor, where everything you do, needs to be louder than that. However, there could be some settings or something else that would be contributing to that, so I would just mess around with it, and do some troubleshooting to see if that fixes anything.

It was awesome, and I'm taking that guitar part at the end and putting it into the next podcast, lawlz

Here's a package with a couple different kits for recording different sounds. It's a good price.

      www.amazon.com/MXL-990-991-Recording-Microphone/dp/B0002GJI3C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1268410046&sr=8-2

Now, here's one that I've heard can be a little "meh" for some people, but the price is good. You could probably find a better standalone for about $50 more though (I myself am considering buying one of these for podcasting, since I've wanted one, and I don't need anything too fancy)

I don't use Auto Tune. I go all out! And I had some subpar equipment I was recording with. And I put in the article, I didn't really care about the vocals. It was still epic. WHY DON'T YOU LOVE ME!?

Nothing wrong with doing it for both! I really enjoy doing the audio production that I do. I LOVE editing the podcast for one. It makes me feel great when I know people are listening to it and comment on it. If I can turn that somehow into a career (not just editing podcasts of course) then I know I will be doing something I love, so I won't want to commit career-suicide as I get older. smiley7.gif

Naturally, at first, I will take what I can get. However, I honestly would like some sort of position in the gaming world. Whether I be producing, or editing, or even creating sound. I would love that.

But after I take this 2 year degree, at the bottom of that page it mentioned the articulate program at Metro State, which I will transfer there and turn my 2 year into a Bachelor's, further enhancing my chances at getting a better job. smiley13.gif

You can use an Image Map (http://www.w3schools.com/TAGS/tag_map.asp). Don't know if it's got a good tutorial there, but I think it's pretty self explanatory.

You could also layer a few anchor tags (links) over top of the various images, but you'd have to probably do a little more placement work, etc, with that. The CSS option is probably better from a design standpoint, but I don't know if you really care about that. smiley0.gif
