Hey, all; I posted about this on the Geeks2Go forum, but I'm having hell of a time getting help there, so I'm posting here to see if any of you can help me out:

Hopefully this is a quick question. My system is set up to dual-boot between Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional. When I'm in Vista I'm able to use Audacity to record "Stereo Mix," that is, I can record exactly what comes out of my computer's speakers. When I'm in Windows 7, however, I'm not able to select that option in Audacity; furthermore, "Stereo Mix" isn't an option when disabled and disconnected devices are showing in my system's sound settings. Does anybody have any idea why this is, and if there's a fix or a workaround for it?

      Here are my system specs:

Thank you all for your help! smiley0.gif

One Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Upgrade Disk + clean key. $40 obo. Disk hasn't even come in the mail yet. You need to be running Windows Vista Business Edition to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro, which is the mistake I made. Any takers? I'll even ship it to you, if you're in Canada or the US.

      Hey, guys,

I love my shortcut keys; I use Ctrl+Alt+N to open Notepad, Ctrl+Alt+C to open Calculator, Ctrl+Alt+W to open Word. However, when I tried today to make a shortcut key to point to my Documents folder (Ctrl+Alt+D), I couldn't get it to work. I was able to assign the shortcut key to other folders, but just not the Documents folder.

Anybody have any insight? Am I missing something?

Oh, right, I'm running Vista Home Premium.

    • Valentine's Day 'n Shtuff n' Things

      realdeal_55

      Hey, everybody!

So I know I totally fail at keeping you guys updated, but of the 41 of you who have me on your watchlist, I think maybe four still come on this site frequently. Still, even if I were to keep you guys updated regularly, I'd just be posting from my blog, BC in BC, verbatim. Check it out if you want to keep up with me; I update it weekly on Sundays.

I come to you seeking advice that I can't ask for in a public place such as my blog; my GIRLFRIEND can see my blog, but she doesn't even know this site exists, never mind my account on here. So, yeah, the first thing you need to know is that I've happily with someone since October 4th. She's pretty awesome. And, believe it or not, it's the same girl I talk about in this friends-only journal from back on August 28th. We decided we'd try the long-distance thing, and it's been working out greatly, thus far. Seeing her over Christmas was so awesome. I can't wait to go back in the Spring and spend a bunch of time with her. smiley0.gif

Anyway, yes. Advice. Personally, I don't really approve of Valentine's Day, but my girlfriend, being a girl, likely does. I haven't asked her because I know if I do, she'll tell me that "it doesn't really matter...", complete with the "...", indicating that it does matter. A lot. And if I were in the same town as her, this would be easy. However, I've never done Valentine's Day from a long distance and all I can really think of is to send her a card. I'd love to do more, but I've got no clue.

So, that's my question for you guys: What should I do for my long-distance girlfriend for Valentine's Day?

Any advice would be appreciated (of course)! smiley0.gif

That's it for me; if you're really itching for more updates on my life (unlikely), feel free to hit me up on Facebook or on my blog.

      DFTBA, and of course,

    • Intermittent Wireless Connectivity

in Forums > Intermittent Wireless Connectivity | Follow this topic

      realdeal_55

      Hey, everybody!

I've been experiencing intermittent connectivity to my Wi-Fi and I'm wondering if you could help me out. It's been good for the last few hours, but I find whenever I think "oh, my connection has been good for longer than usual," that's when it goes out. It'll probably go out as I'm composing this post. :-P

If I attempt a "Diagnose and Repair" through the network connection icon in the tray, I get one of four results:
1 - Connection was automatically re-established while it was diagnosing, returning a "no problem" message,
2 - Windows Network Diagnostics returns with an issue which it can resolve on its own,
3 - WND returns with a message simply saying that it has confirmed a network connectivity issue, but doesn't know what the problem is, or,
4 - I lose total connectivity for a few minutes and am unable to connect to my network at all.

I know that basically covers the gamut of possible results that WND can have, but there's no way to predict which one will occur. It seems to be fairly sporadic.

I'm using a D-Link DWA-125 Wireless 150 USB Adapter to connect to my Wi-Fi network from my custom-built, desktop computer running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 and Ubuntu 10.10. The issue doesn't present itself as often in Ubuntu.

The drivers for the adapter are up-to-date. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software for it, as well, and that didn't help either.

Any guidance you can provide me with is highly appreciated.

      Thanks! :-D

    • iTunes-type Help

      realdeal_55

Hey, all! Quick question for you if you're familiar with iTunes:

My friend's music library is absolutely massive, so she bought an external hard drive to keep it all on. However, whenever she adds something to her library, it copies itself onto her computer's local drive, so she has two copies of every track, and her local hard drive is nearing capacity. Is there an auto-backup setting in iTunes she can use to stop this from happening? I'm not familiar with iTunes, and I'm in a different province than my friend, so I've got no idea how to help her.

      Please and thanks! smiley0.gif

    • Weight Loss & Getting Fit

in Forums > Weight Loss & Getting Fit | Follow this topic

      realdeal_55

Almost three years ago, I came to the forums looking for help with losing weight. For the life of me, however, I can't find the thread I posted in, and I can't find any really relevant thread using the search tool, so I'm starting one.

Anyway, three years ago I weighed 350 pounds. Since then, I've changed my eating habits and have gotten more active, and today I weigh 222. I feel like I have more energy, I look a lot better, and I generally feel better about myself. I think it was DiMono who gave me the advice I worked off of, so Chris, if you happen to come across this thread, thank you so much. smiley0.gif

My problem at this point is I seem to have hit a wall. I only weigh myself once a week, and I've been stuck at this 222-pound mark for over a month. School has started again, and I appreciate that with school comes more studying (or in my case, practising (I'm a music student)) and there's less time for being active. However, I've been fairly regimental with doing DDR's workout mode for 45-60 minutes a day, five days a week, and going to the gym and doing cardio there for an hour once a week. I walk everywhere, including to and from school, which is a 1km walk each way. I haven't reverted to my old habits of eating out every night; not only can I not afford to, I refuse to live like that, anymore. I'm not living on Kraft Dinner, either; I cook pretty well for my roommate and I.

Anyway, I'm not too sure what to do at this point. My goal is to get down in between 150-175 pounds, but this wall is really starting to frustrate me. Also, losing almost 130 pounds has left me with what feels like a bunch of empty, awkward, flabby skin that I'm not too sure what to do with. I could start doing weight training at the gym and fill it out with muscle, but I don't want to be a bodybuilder, and I don't want to put on more weight.

So I'm a little stuck, and I appeal to you, the always-helpful RT community, for a touch of advice.

      Please and thanks! smiley0.gif

    • Thirteen Years of Fort McMurray

      realdeal_55

So Saturday is moving day. I've moved four times since I started at Keyano College almost three years ago, so significant part isn't that I'm moving: It's that this time, I'm leaving Fort McMurray. I haven't lived outside Fort McMurray since my family moved here in the summer of 1997 from Calgary to be closer to my Dad's side of the family. That's thirteen years of this town. We moved here when I was almost eight years old, and I'm twenty-one, now; while I wasn't born here, I certainly did my "growing up" here, and even though I might not technically be "from" here, Fort McMurray is the place I call home.

People like to rag on Fort McMurray; I guess it's an easy target. This town is painted as dirty and dangerous, and as an artistic wasteland. And that's all accurate. Let there be no mistake: Fort McMurray is a working town where oil is king. People are scared to bring up their families, here. A good deal of people here are apathetic, and it's led to a level of stagnation. There's little to do, here. However, if the bad is all you look at, then that's all you're going to see, and if you judge Fort McMurray without giving it a chance, you're cheating yourself out of a wonderful experience.

Fort McMurray is an amazing town. There's beauty everywhere; there's nothing quite like driving (or walking) down Beacon Hill in the autumn when the trees on the hills are changing colour. Yes, Fort McMurray is a working town, but people work to support their families, whether or not they live here. And they should: If parents are as involved as they should be in their childrens' lives, they come up great. Apathy is an issue because the people here work so much; the people here haven't been engaged, and I hope that the upcoming municipal elections change that, and that the candidates make engaging people here a priority. The people who say that there's nothing to do, here, simply don't know where to look. There's something for everybody at Keyano, from the Theatre to general interest, non-credit courses. There's always some kind of musical act going on at the local bars and taverns, and the diverse ethnic communities here have regular celebrations of their cultures which are open to the public.

My apologies for rambling, but this is my home. I love it here, and I hate all the negative press this town gets. I've said for a while that a reporter from some big newspaper or magazine needs to bring their family up here for six months and do a long-term piece on what it's really like to live here, as opposed to coming up for a night and hanging out on the corner of Franklin Avenue and Main Street.

I look back on the last thirteen years and the feeling sinks in that I'm going to miss it, here. I've learned so much about myself, here. I've made the best friends I could ever ask for, here. I've gone from whatever I weighed back in 1997 up as high as 350 pounds back down to the 226 I weigh, today. If you had told me five years ago that in the years to come I was going to be president of my high school's student council, president of my college's students' association, and a member of the governing body of my college, I would have laughed at you. There's been romance and heartache, loving and laughing, learning and teaching. I've done a lot, here.

I know that there's a lot for me to discover, however, and that my life is only just beginning. Vancouver Island University, Nanaimo, and British Columbia present me with exciting new opportunities and challenges. Am I nervous? Am I excited? The answer to both of those questions is "heck yes, I am." I have so much more to learn about myself. There's more romance and heartache to be had, more friends to meet, and a hell of a lot of learning to do, both academically and otherwise. I'm looking forward to it.

But I'll never forget where I came from: Fort McMurray, Alberta. Home of the Oilsands. Home of the Oil Barons. And Home of so many of my friends (past and present), family, teachers, professors, co-workers, and mentors, many of whom fall into more than one of those categories, who have shaped me, and made me who I am.

Thanks for everything, Fort McMurray, and DFTBA.

www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm and download dBpowerAMP Music Converter. After installing the application, go to www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central-mp4.htm and download the following codecs mp4 & AAC Decoder,Pystel mp4 Encoder, FAAC mp4 Encoder, AAC Codec (The others are optional, but this ons is required to convert to aac) ,AAC >> Mp4 & Mp4 >> AAC Codec.

After downloading and installing these, open the music converter and choose the files to convert.

Or you can just download and install iTunes, use the built in conversion, and then uninstall it...just a thought.

Aww, that's too bad. At least you know you -should- be playing it. smiley8.gif I'm lucky enough to be one of those idiots who can take any instrument home and have a fairly decent ability (around semi-alright high schooler) to play it within a few hours. Oh jesus man, take up the trombone. It's -fun- and it sounds so much better than a baritone and/or euphonium in jazz. There's just something about a slide that makes those parts so much more entertaining and fun to play. It's all a numbers game too, 1st position is open valve, second is just like holding down for an F or Bflat (in treble clef that is), etc etc. C'mon, you know you want to.

    • Nalin

I played 2nd chair trombone(senior year) and 2nd chair trumpet (sophomore) (I kind of like to solo) on that song. It's amazingly fun. If you can get a good group together, Hunting Wabbits is amazing, same with Bubba's Revenge. smiley0.gif

We had to just let a "tech" (if you can even call him that) go for berating a customer on how stupid they were for not knowing how to properly input equations into excel. The customer was doing it right, there was a problem with excel, and the tech refused to look at it.

It was the straw that broke the camels back, he'd been transfered from all six of our metro locations for issues like this.

He was fired the next day and then we had a party.

I had to tunnel into the network since I wasn't in the office, and then download a dameware application so I could get inside the machine's desktop and click "OK" for the image to start. As to imaging software...it's based loosely off of GHOST, that's about all I know of it, and because of that it's a pain in the ass.
