alright people, i know i'm awful at staying on the site regularly, but i try my best to catch up with everything when i do pop on once or twice a month (again, i suck).

first off, i may have scored an insanely nice job working with a company associated with the military where i'd be designing cross-platform apps to control unmanned aerial and ground vehicles as well as their sensors. i'd be getting a security clearance and everything. gotta say that's pretty damn exciting.

secondly, my latest app just got released today. it's a universal iOS app called Maintain My Car and can be found here. if anyone feels like spreading the word about it, i would truly appreciate it. it's hard to get word out on apps, unfortunately, so word of mouth does wonders.

finally, it sounds like i probably have the apple store genius bar job. they said my application was great and i'm on the list for orientation. then they sent an email (which i never got).....so one of the higher ups there put my resume in the system manually as an employee recommendation. hoping some good comes of that.

and that's all. i hope you guys are all doing fantastic. *cyber high fives all round* (i really like high fives....)

    • i'm a terrible person

or a digital nomad. that sounds a lot cooler and actually better fits the fact that i'm terrible at sticking on a site for long. twitter is probably the only thing i'm almost consistent with when it comes to stuff like that. and email.

but that's all way besides the point. just thought i'd hop on and find out what everyone has been up to and leave some updates (got something that might interest chargerram77). i see some sweet halloween stuff seems to be going on, which makes me sad that i'm not doing shit. but there's reason for that.

so, two days ago, we had a snowstorm......in october. 5-6 inches total over the course of a day. lost power completely for just under 24 hours (it was cold). ended up having to take some of the branches that came down, cutting them up, and making fire from them. there were a lot of branches to choose from (trees with leaves still on don't much care for lots of snow this early in the year). but that all worked out pretty well. kept warm, anyway. but yeah, dealing with all that, i didn't try too hard to do any halloween stuff.

in other stuff, google+ is still crazy. up to 1556 people now, i think. i keep wondering how many people i need to be a "verified user" because that would be pretty cool.

the app is still sorta selling. think i just hit $200 in profit. that more than covers expenses to be a developer and buy a book i got when learning to program in objective-c, but isn't even close to paying for 5-6 months of work. maybe some day it'll get going. i did notice that a promo code was used two days ago to get a copy, which means an app review place used the code i gave them. having a review would be amazing to get word out. and holy hell do i need the attention on that front. users love the app, saying it's much better than anything else out there, but that doesn't help me much with such a small audience (from something like 10 separate countries).

now, chargerram77.....exciting news for you. i'm making (almost done, actually) an app for all iOS devices (including your phone) that is meant for car maintenance. keep track of all your cars, parts, inspections, repairs, mileage reports, where stuff was bought, how much it was, notes about the parts, etc. i got really fed up trying to go through all the papers and receipts for my car to see when this or that should be looked at and possibly replaced, so i say fuck it and wrote an app to store it all for me, along with remind me when things need done, from where, how to contact the person (if necessary), and how much to expect to spend. good times.

finally, i've applied to a couple places for work. this place called princeton consultants, which i think i talked about before (and still terrifies me a bit). and the apple store genius bar. considering i'm the go-to person amongst most of my friends and family for anything electronic, i thought i'd try to at least get paid for the info. being a global person (not just apple) would be more preferable since i'm familiar with just about everything (besides really detailed linux or windows mobile). anything else, and i can probably fix it no problem. but since i couldn't find something like that, i just went with the genius bar. i mean, i program for both OS X and iOS, so i feel that's a kind of knowledge that would be extremely beneficial for them. but who knows. i'm keeping my fingers crossed

    • what the balls is going on with google+?

      sev_ered

i dunno what happened, but i have to share this with someone cuz i'm more than confused. almost concerned.

so, i've had google+ since the private beta started. have a couple friends on there (most all from here, actually). i don't do shit on there, to be honest. it never really kept my interest long enough to try and make it feel useful. but that's fine. i'm glad people do use it. and i was really hoping that could be my place to go instead of facebook. but no luck. so i just stopped going to facebook as much, haha.

anyway, i've got about a dozen people on there that i actually know. once it went public, i'd get a couple invites here and there. maybe 1-2 a day. 10 at most.

as of yesterday, i had 36 people that have me in their circles. right now..........920. i gained almost 900 people in 24 hours. what. the. fuck. how does this even happen? and why did it happen? i mean, i guess i'm not really in a position to complain as this greatly helps get my name out there and network the fuck out of my skills. but still....

just to show the craziness, go to google.com. you know how they feed results while you're typing (before you hit enter)? start typing justin cra and stop there. at this point, i am now the FIRST hit. this blows me away.

i'm sorry since this literally has no real context to it, but i just need to share this shit with people so i don't feel as crazy anymore. now i'm up to 940 people that have me in their circles. 20 more since i started writing this journal. what is going on?!?!

    • so busy

      sev_ered

everything seems to be happening at once here. lots of confusion and trying to figure shit out. nothing awful, so nobody worry. but that's why i've been awol.

my app is doing pretty well. i didn't think i'd sell anything for weeks, and i've already sold 31. that's $152 in my pocket in just under 3 weeks. not too shabby. got a review in the works, plus three more hopefuls. i've released two updates so far also, adding new features and improving the shit out of its efficiency. working on even more shit to let people add documents and images (images part is already done) in questions. then got it ready for the release of iOS 5 so it'll run smooth on that. and finally i'm halfway through incorporating iCloud into the app so you'll be able to insta-sync the fuck out of it and store your data off the device.

been getting random job offers. someone wants me to design an app that i'm not so sure is legal, so i'm making them do research into it first. a consulting firm called Princeton Consultants contacted me, offering a full-time position. not so much an offer, but saying they are impressed with my resume (they found me through PhysicsToday, which got my information through my APS membership and career site). they then asked me to take some application survey, said i was a good fit, and may contact me soon. sounds great, but the impression i've gotten from them so far is that they are like wall street brokers with a hint of science. so unless i learn otherwise, i doubt i'd ever work for them because i'd hate them and myself.

i also had a president/ceo of a company contact me for potential work writing an application using streamcast for their company among other stuff. something i'd be more than capable of making.

my friend from TN and i met up in MD to go to the aquarium and explore inner harbor, something i do a lot. and he told me his dad, who is a long time military guy, is looking to start a company and wouldn't mind having me on board once he gets the funding. it'd basically be using sensors (IR, underground, underwater, etc.) to weigh potential threats. so i'd have to analyze what is a threat and what isn't, putting different weights of potential through algorithms on each sensor (and there will be tons of them) to assess the risk. i've worked plenty with sensors in the past and with weighted algorithms, so i'd be a perfect fit. it'd be contracted probably through the DoD or someone similar, so we'll see where that leads.

i guess that's about it. at least all i can think of. i'll be sure to let you guys know what happens with any of the current excitement when it happens. but that's life at the moment.

more to come later, but in short, my app is released. as in, on the market!!!!!!!! it was approved 8 hours ago and i put it out to the public. anyone that wants to see what it is (or wants to get it or pass it along to someone who might actually need it), you can find it here. i am so proud of it. and already have updates in mind (and are actually started in my code) that will take the idea to an entirely new level (streaming data rather than storing it on your device and/or storing everything in the cloud to keep your device uncluttered with app memory usage).

so yeah, i'm insanely happy. one of my best friends from grad school came up from TN and spent yesterday and today with me, which was awesome. then the app got approved and went on sale (at which point i immediately switched the price from $9.99 to $6.99 to make buyers less hesitant at the thought of purchasing the product). just........so much badass.

i'll try to get a journal up soon about all the features (with screenshots and shit) if there's enough interest. i'm just happy to say i'm now a legit developer

we're talking about the cyber group today. been wanting to have a discussion about them for a while, but stuff kept coming up.

from what i've come to understand, they originated on 4chan, talking in IRC channels, and were known mainly for tons of trolling. later on, they were led towards a more political stance as they more or less declared war on the Church of Scientology (for declaring legal action for a leaked video from Tom Cruise made for the church). the attack against the church were originally very erratic and not-quite-legal, bordering on hateful for some. this went on for about 2 years, growing in time to more civilized forms of attacks. exploiting DDoS attacks on the church and organizing protests around the world. it wasn't until the revoking of WikiLeaks pages that Anonymous seemed to expand their areas of interest. they made massive DDoS attacks against PayPal, MasterCard and Amazon for their participation in removing support and services for WikiLeaks. operations began in Tunisia at the beginning of this year where Anonymous provided aid and support to those protestors. they also took stances with the protests in Egypt, Libya and New Zealand. they led attacks against Silvio Berlusconi in Italy and against the legislators of Wisconsin who withdrew bargaining rights from their unions. then later against Sony for suing a man who bypassed the digital protection on playstation. a much more detailed story is one i read when it first came out found here.

the rest pretty much brings us to today. this form of cyberactivism continued to expand until a voice started to be heard on a much grander scale that the group was tired of people being subjected to unlawful actions and watching corruption in corporations and governments running rampant.

this is something i stood behind. it was a cause i personally believed in. still do, i suppose. but i'm not so sure i agree with the form of attacks that have recently come to be. at first, DDoS attacks were used as a form of protest. then they began leaking information that was hidden from the public. information that truly should be known. but lately.........lately they have started to leak information about people in organizations. there's the leaks from the Texas police station hack. though i can fully understand the reason for the attack, it didn't stop here. they released addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, etc. hundreds of them. this is where the line of my support starts to get hazy. these are innocent people that they are exploiting. combatting an organization that has done wrong, i get. but destroying the individuals associated with it?...not so much. the whole mentality of anonymous seemed to be keeping individual anonymity safe. yet they have started to do just what they have set out to protect against.

so the question is, where do they go from here? cyberactivism has started to cross a line into cyberbullying. will they return to their original purpose or not? what are your opinions? please feel free to leave whatever you think. i'm more than open to discussion

i submitted my app to the app store today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that's all, really. it's gonna be amazing. once i hear back, i'll make a journal about it with pictures and wonderful shit like that. but now i just have to wait and hope the review goes well (make sure i didn't do anything stupid like leaving a crash in there somewhere).

also gotta wait to hear back from dropbox to make sure they can sign off on it to allow full service from their API.

and yeah, that's it. i'm a happy cookie. and wish i had a cookie to celebrate with. or really anything. pomegranate-raspberry juice will have to suffice for now....

EDIT: still no cookies, but dropbox HAS approved my app for production status. so i will have full access to the site when the app goes live. this is good cuz i'm now thinking about adding a streaming function to the app where you can look at data without storing all the underlying information on the device. gonna be extremely hard with dropbox, though, cuz i'd have to restream the file each and every time you change a filter (due to how the objects are stored...no need to understand, just trust me, haha). which is no bueno. maybe with iCloud i can do it differently and store all information off the device, which would rock so much ass. i will be awesome

most of this is just stuff i've taken pictures of over the past couple months. some have stories to go with them, some are just funny.....and some have both! it's like an informercial of visual awesomeness!!!

anyway, i'm an asshole. with pictures, anyway. i've mastered the art of taking pictures in public, museums, etc., while appearing like i'm texting. been doing it for years and years. and have made many people proud of the deviousness. so we'll start there. with candid awesome pictures.

there's just something about kids on leashes that both offends me, but makes me laugh without regard to who notices

      IMG_0432.jpg
that backpack is WAY too big for the kid. is it possible to get hemoroids at age 7? cuz he's definitely on his way

      IMG_0438.jpg
the mullet on this kid........hot damn

      IMG_0459.jpg
speaking of mullets, i swear this guy was a kid rock lookalike. but with some of the most well-conditioned hair i've ever seen. he clearly takes pride in the glory of his mullet

      IMG_0439.jpg
i saw this person at a sheetz (i'm sure a lot of you have no idea what sheetz is, but it's the best gas station/store/food place ever. it has everything and i missed it so much when i lived in TN). ANYWAY, i couldn't help but think of Pat from the old SNL skits cuz i honestly am still not sure what gender it is...

      IMG_0460.jpg
i saw this guy two nights ago at roburrito's (best burrito place in the history of man) while hanging out with sam. if you don't know sam, you should cuz i've been friends with him for......9 years now? we went to high school together and he's pretty much all sorts of awesome. anyway, this dude looked a LOT like mike ditka, so i needed a picture. to many of you, that won't matter, but ditka is a huge inside joke in my family stemming from the old SNL "superfans" skits going on and on about "da bears"

now some shit from around the house

      IMG_0264.jpg
this is literally my glasses cleaner. dunno how it could possible be any cooler

      IMG_0296.jpg
i found this recently. it's from the booklet for South Pacific (i was in musicals during high school) and i seriously can't believe they let me get away with that. i'm justin, by the way, in case some of you don't know my real name

      IMG_0457.jpg
a friend made this for me recently. they found the sticker on the floor at work and decided to make it into a gift for me. imagine my surprise when i got that thing, haha

      IMG_0458.jpg
finally, there's my newly acquired voodoo doll. got it as a gift for watching a friend's cat for a week and a half. also got a badass hoodie that says "nothing tips.....like a cow" and has a drawing of a cow with its legs straight up in the air. apparently that was pretty big around Spokane, WA, where they were at the time

and that's it. hope you all enjoyed some of the ridiculousness

      STILL NOT FINISHED!!!!!!

i coulda had this thing released forever ago if i didn't try to make it useful for large corporations. damn my preparation.

anyway, i'd been doing tests with it. gathering tons of data, then uploading it to dropbox. then getting lazy and just downloading said data from dropbox (since it appends to the current results assuming it's data taken from a colleague), then uploading the new data and downloading and so on. helps you rank up numbers quick (yay math).

doing this shit led to problems where i literally killed my RAM by hogging it all. i was converting all my data to a dictionary, then converting the dictionary to raw data, then creating a file with the data and uploading. this is bad cuz it's holding 3 times as much space as i need. in short, creating a big file = FUCK YOU I CAN'T HOLD THAT MUCH.

solution: create a file, give it a file handle, then write the data to the file through the handle, releasing the memory as i go. but in order to do this shit, i had to convert my data to XML code. so i did that. all custom code. BUT WHAT ABOUT READING THAT SHIT IN? is something you probably aren't asking yourself. well, i'll tell you anyway. i had to write a custom xml parser from scratch. basically a file that reads in all the info from the XML code, knows what to do and when, then creates and writes to objects while running. and i had to keep the memory load of that to a minimum cuz it's a bitch ass and otherwise puts insane amounts of info on a heap. basically, it makes my RAM into a fatass.

anyway, in doing this, i realized my data storage could be more efficient. so i changed it. changing a framework like that means rewriting about a dozen files. once i finished, i thought of a way to make it ever MORE efficient and went through the progress again. had to almost completely redo how i analyze data for graphs. but fuck was it worth it.

so............CURRENT RESULTS (i hope these random caps are as amusing to others as they are for me):
before changes -- could upload 48MB of data at 50000 surveys before it crashed
now -- 130MB of data at 370000 surveys (my new structure only takes up 30% the space as the previous) and i don't yet know where it crashes cuz it's a fucking beast

      conclusion: i rule

We only raced local circuits and used an old E36 323 body stripped down with roll cage and with a lot of after market suspension. After we toasted the original motor we upgraded to a M54 from a E36 M3. It was fast in its class. On the straight a ways we could hang with most except the corvettes but we kill them in the turns.

I know now they have working with guy with a E46 M3 with the SMG trans. Guy has got money to spend. I look forward to helping them with that.

As far as GT1 class my buddy Troy worked on a pit crew for Porche. I was thrilled to see him do that. The did enduro racing where they race on a course for 24hrs. To see if the cars and drivers can hold up. He had to change clutch out in middle of the race. Ya have to wear kevlar to protect ya from the heat. If I hadn't been married and with kids at the time I would have done that.
But family changes perspectives and goals. I hope I hadn't bored ya with this.
