    • Have I changed?

      smellygnomes

I don't know. I'm certainly more "professional" now. Got a job, wear a tie, am in charge of people, all that jazz. Not a lot of free time.
Until about 4 years ago, I spent many, many hours on this site. Chatting in the forums, trying my damnedest to get staff awards. Making friends. This place was one of 5 or 6 sites I actually visited. Sadly, things changed. Was it me, was it this place? I don't know. But they did.
I've tried to make a comeback on here several times in the last few years, but I really haven't had much success. This place is so different now.
But, damn it, I'm going to try to get back into the swing of things. Who knows, maybe I'll be updating daily, like I used to.
Or not. Who knows. Certainly not me.
Who the hell am I even talking to?

    • FedEx lies.

I sat in my living room from 8-2 today, just to make sure that I didn't miss the FedEx delivery driver. Nothing arrived. Website said parcel went out for delivery. Called FedEx, they assured me it did indeed go out for delivery @ 11:30. Now get to go through the run around of figuring out where the hell my package is, as it certainly did not arrive here.

    • Canadian?

      smellygnomes

I have, and continue to, always identified myself as a Canadian. I have lived in America since 1995, which means that I've been in America 5 years longer than I lived in Canada. The thing is, that I don't really know what it would take for me to feel like an American. Are there qualifiers? Or have I already completely integrated and am just unaware. I don't know. I have a couple more years until my greencard expires and I really have to figure this out, but it's been on my mind a lot recently.

One thing that I always liked about this place is that it seemed like something thrown together by 5 guys that just happened to catch on with a group of misfits. There was that ever present air of unprofessionalism. I liked that.

RT is still a keen place, I guess, but it seems too clean. Too legit. I sorta miss the madness.

    • Two years.

Its been well over two years since I've been here.
I don't know what the hell is going on here anymore.
I keep up with the videos of Youtube every now and again, but honestly... I'm lost.

      I guess I'm back.
I don't know who, if anyone, will read this.
As a great man once said "hold onto your butts."

    • RTX and beyond.

Heading home after a week of madness and shenanigans.

RTX was a total blast, met very cool people, chatted with the staffers, and generally had an awesome time.
Reno was cold and snowy, which after 100+ degree temps in Austin was a welcome change. The family is doing well, it's always nice getting to see those guys.

Now, back to miserable Iowa. *sigh*

    • Unpacking:

I still had a couple of boxes in my room that I never got around to unpacking when I moved back to Iowa (in 2008.) So I thought I'd take a look through them today and see what I could find...

It was like Christmas. There were a few t-shirts in there which I had totally forgotten about, some original x-box titles, and a coffee mug with some random dude's fishing picture printed on it. There was plenty of unexciting papers and the like, but I'm happy I finally opened them up.

I was going to post another lie-journal reminiscing about something ridiculous, but with this discovery and my RTX pass, I'm too happy to properly tell a lie this weekend.

    • I remember:

There was this one time in 1988 I stopped into the local Avondale to pick up a Charleston Chew and a pack of X-Men trading cards. I had just finished paying, when who should I see browsing the NES carts, but an aged Natalie Wood. I walked over to introduce myself, but before I could utter one word, Ms. Wood stared over a copy of Blaster Master and directly into my soul. "Beware the fox, he spies the chicken coop" she whispered to me... Shaken to my core, I turned and left. As I was about to leave, it struck me: "Natalie Wood drowned in 1981..." I turned back around to confront her, but alas she was gone, with nothing but a cold shiver up my spine to prove she was there.

    • Snow:

Being a Canadian expatriate it kills me to say this, but I think I'm officially tired of snow. Cold I can handle. But the snow is wearing on me.

Snow was all fine a dandy when I was a child, and didn't have to drive to work.

AND, you'd think that living in Iowa, I wouldn't have to worry about crap drivers, as we get snow every year. BUT, no, people seem not to learn from past experiences in our wintery wonderland.

      Hmpf.

aw yeah... well hopefully I get all my 20playthroughs of DA2 done by then... lol but heck.. what is it with everyone hacking dragons just cause of Dragon age every damn games wants dragons...
Yes I know the history and shit of the Elder Scrolls.. but they didn't need to include actual dragons, although the shout and whispers things sound pretty cool so maybe it will be alright.

and then Crysis 2 will come out soon..I don't even know the release date of that... which is sad... but yeh I need that I suppose... but I say why leave the jungle... oh well...
and then at somepoint everyone will spaz out over Gears of War3.... urgh... I'm so not a GoW fan....
but hey... Space Marine will be out soon and beat the shit out of it!

      thanks a much!

      and Bulletstorm is the shit!
I hyped the hell out of it in my video but yeh honestly it's fun as hell. Shame I'm gonna trade it in for Dragon Age2 when that comes out in like 10days but I've already completed it 3times and now I'm doing a VeryHard runthrough which isn't that hard really... now I just gotta get the last like 6stars so I can max it out on Echo.

I only played Anarchy once though last night.. that's fun as heck too but I really need three friends to get this game already for more fun. why the heck no one I know has this game is killing me.. what the shit...
      (sorry I spaz out alittle...)
      but yeh...

      rant ends.

Yeah I know! Facebook pretty much took over my life at this point. Plus I have limited access to Internet right now.
To answer the other question: It's cold. Cold and snowy.

Hell yeah I did, that game was great. I don't remember much about the first-person game anymore, but the multiplayer was great. My brother and I got up to some pretty ridiculous stuff in capture the flag and all that, haha.

And thanks, you seem like a cool guy yourself. Looks like our book lists have a lot in common. I love classic sci-fi so very much.

Cool! The only problem with Gamefly is the cost. They are very expensive.
