... and yet when I open up my page it says I have at least one update. Site updates really do mess things up, don't they?

Oh well, it's not the biggest inconvenience the site has given me before since I normally check stuff manually to see if any older posts and journals get buried by newer ones.

As for me, not much has changed. Plenty of stuff happened though!

Sakura Con 2018 came and went a few weeks ago. I haven't posted my pics online yet, I've been a little too lazy to do so. Honestly, compared to previous years this con was pretty calm. Not as much seemed to be happening event wise but given how last year was the 20th anniversary and they went all out for that any follow ups would be considered weak.

Despite that, this year was more fun since a couple of friends who hadn't been before finally came this year! It was a first time to a con for one of them as well and needless to say he was blown away. "Spent ~$700" he said; probably could've spent a little less if I hadn't pointed out a Tae Takemi body pillow cover at the artist alley. Actually, why didn't I buy that?...

And remember how I said my cat passed away? Well, at the closing ceremony the winning AMV for the year was about a girl and her cat set to that one song from Toy Story 2. Yeah, I was in tears by the end of that. Funnily enough though, some girls behind me realized that during the reel of other AMV winners in other categories that they pretty much knew the overall winner and would probably start crying right away. They did.

      ----- -----

Before the con, like pretty much right after my last journal actually, my DnD group met up while I was a no-show. I did a 5k race early that morning and was staying at my aunt's house, so after I got back I collapsed on the couch and slept most of the day. Had them continue without me thinking they'd be fine.

Next day I get the news that everyone died because they followed a creepy god's plan to get back home... Via getting their souls sucked out so he could blow the hell out of some other dimensions connected via the magic elevators we utilised.

      Are you fucking kidding me?

So we're starting a new campaign next week after the DM had some time to plan. We're actually going back to the world of the campaign previous to this one that we thought was eternally screwed over but apparently a "chosen one" was born that fought back the darkness and the gods reigning over it and actually won. We were *supposed* to do something similar but messed up and got killed instead.

BUT WE'RE FINALLY SOMEWHAT BACK ON TRACK FOR THE VIDEO GAME BACKLOG OF 2018!!!!

NieR Automata: Endings A-Z achieved and a Platinum Trophy

Fire Emblem Warriors: story mode done, but still plenty of content left to complete

Shin Megami Tensei 4 Apocalypse: Ok, not done yet but I'm definitely at the very last, final  there-can't-be-anything-more boss fight. Struggling a little because he has at least two phases and partway through phases one he drains my team and I of HP and MP. Recovering MP midbattle sucks so by phase two he just picks us off and I'm pretty sure buffs don't carry over. Fight isn't terribly hard, just tedious since phase one is kind of a story set up for the real fight.

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor DLC - I came back two year later to finally follow up on the Lord of the Hunt and Bright Lord stories. Had to get readjusted to the controls since NieR controlled so smoothly and Mordor felt... Like a brick tied to pigeon. It felt slow and unrefined since that makes more sense than my analogy.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep Remix for PS3: time to finally get back to this series, especially since one of my friends keeps bugging me to so yet he won't get off Hearthstone to go through his backlogs of games and shows. Just started today as Ventus.

And we're almost in to March :p

Well, to get the most depressing news out of the way: my cat Tigerlili passed away last night.

She was 17 years old and we had her for 16 years, so she was pretty old. Last Sunday she started having trouble walking and didn't even try to eat whenever she got up, only drink water and pee. By Wednesday she couldn't get out of her pet bed.

      :(

video game backlog of 2018 (sad background whisper shouting "Yay")

I'm not gonna list every thing at the moment:

      - NieR Automata routes ABC and several other joke/bad endings

      - Fire Emblem Warriors - just the story, there's plenty to do in History mode!

      - Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has slowed down due to NieR but I'm pretty sure Morag Ladair is best girl.

      - Shin Megami Tensei 4 Apocalypse - WAIT HOW WAS THIS NOT THE FINAL BOSS?!?

Ok so scratch that last one hehehe. But I'm definitely in the final dungeon and on my way to the actual final boss. The dungeon itself is kinda meh: a lot of long hallways and teleporters.

NieR Automata has also been pretty great. If you haven't played it yet, I'd say do it asap.

      ---- -----

What the hell is up with my summons in Fire Emblem Heroes?!?

I've gotten some pretty great characters throughout the first year. A few of them had great stat spreads, some great characters got bad IVs...

And I failed to pull Winter Lissa back in December after 200 something orbs :(

As if the game wanted to rub it in my face, I pulled everyone else on that banner on top of a (admittedly pretty good) Sheena and Spring Chrom! I didn't even want those guys, just Lissa. They were all +Res boons too for better or worse. Some would console me saying I got "best girl/mage/armor unit" Tharja and that even with a -Def bane she's great (actually that bane makes it harder to tank stuff she should be able to), but screw that she's not my waifu!

The whole community fan vote thing soured it for me too since we're probably just gonna end up with Vanguard Ike or even Winter Tharja. Why couldn't we just pick a character individually? I knew voting Winter Lissa each time wasn't going to get her for me but I did it anyway.

So in the end I finally got off my giant pile of feathers and am building a *5 +Def/-Spd merged Lissa. She's at +4 right now but I'm thinking about throwing in these two other questionable IV Lissas. Her low speed means she gets doubled but her decent defenses means she can actually take a few hits. She'll be missing out on Wrathful Staff unless a few Gennys come home. I gave her Dazzling Gravity+ since I'll probably never pull Bridal Lyn, much less fodder her off.

Quite a bit happened in the last month:

For one, my job at FedEx went through its two week peak period before Christmas. We worked about 10 hours overnight and only got Saturdays off. Most people complained how tired they were most of the time and by the last two hours each day a majority of the people left. Meanwhile I still didn't find the job all that tiring (that's like a regular, full time schedule. My coworkers need to step it up!,) and I was pretty damn positive and hard-working throughout the whole thing. My perseverance paid off in the end and I ended up  as Employee of the Month! The last letter of my last name is wrong though hahaha

I'm gonna miss working those hours and the larger paychecks. May be time to start looking around at other jobs again. Probably won't find anything or even jump on anything for a little while though.

Second, I ended up sick twice in the same period of time. I caught a cold right before Christmas and I had what was probably food poisoning yesterday. I couldn't keep anything down, not even a piece of toast. And toast was on a list of stuff that should have been safe to eat >:/  I seem to be fine now and I didn't puke out my breakfast. I better not be sick, I'm on way to my grandma's place to eat tamales.

Christmas 2017 was pretty chill - we got a White Christmas! It snowed the day before as well, so our plan to go to my aunt's house almost ended up a bust. Gift wise it was pretty small too, but I was fine with that. Honestly, I almost didn't even have anything to tell my family. Then I noticed that my OG RWBY mighty wallet is in a pretty sorry state, so a new wallet was definitely in order. I also got Pokémon Ultra Sun, though I haven't started it since I need to finish Shin Megami Tensei 4 Apocalypse.

      And speaking of games...

Again, I didn't do too hot this year. I blame work, shows, laziness, and most of what's on my plate currently being longer RPGs rather than shorter action games like previous years.

I'd do anime 2017, but now I'm definitely being too lazy. Last journal of 2017 and all.

Will give you such a crick in the neck!

Alright, enough Aladdin jokes. I haven't said anything but I've been keeping an eye on my watch list here. As usual, I've been too busy/lazy to want to write anything.

First off, I got that FedEx job! After a little phone tag, I was able to schedule an interview. After a few questions, they basically hired me on the spot. No need for the resume I had written up. As for the job itself, it's been okay; it's not the most glamorous job, but it's simple and actually less stressful than my school job. On top of that, the managers see me as pretty reliable given that whoever is there, I'm usually called upon to do stuff. It was at a point where when someone called for me, everyone else would do the same.

The only drawback is not being able to get off before the last bus going home leaves. There are days were I worked way more than the 3-5 hours the job was advertised as and until recently, I was called upon to stay that late while everyone else was sent home early. I'd have no real problem with that if 1) I had a car 2) I started early enough that I'd still be able to catch the last bus home or 3) we'd rotate through people, especially since most of the others drive cars. It's only been within the last couple of weeks that other people have been asked to stay.

It won't be as big a deal when peak season starts since the buses should be running by the time we're done.

      ----- -----

VG backlog 2017 is still proceeding at a snail's pace, especially since I've been super lazy while adding more games to the list AND focusing so much on Fire Emblem Heroes. I WILL finish Persona 5 though. I'm so close to the end!

I've made up for my game log with shows though. Probably also why I can't finish my games...

      ---- -----

Oh yeah, and San Diego Comic Con 2017 happened! It's been so long I can't really summarize that well other than it was fun. Last day in California was definitely different since my dad, brother, and I flew in to Los Angeles due to being cheaper but since the flight back home was at the butt crack of dawn, we spent the previous day hanging out in LA to see the sights.

    • Tons of Stuff

      solblade44

Quite a bit has happened since the last journal that I was too lazy to write up at the various points.

Sakura Con 2017 came and went. Biggest points for me were:

      - stuff signed by Erica Mendez, Erica Lindbeck, Kira Buckland (AND we JoJo posed together for a pic!), and Christine Cabanos. They had a TON of people for their 20th Sakura Con.

      - among other stuff I bought, I freaked out and bought a Yuuki Konno figma

      - went to +18 panels for Todd Haberkorn and Erica Lindbeck/Natalie Hoover. We were all sworn to secrecy to not talk about what went down, but all I can say is that they were fucking hilarious... And Erica and Natalie had some shots before their panel.

      - Blue Exorcist Kyoto Arc premiere

      - amazing cosplay and pics

Ended off the school year at the school I work at. It was quite the ordeal this year since one kid was a pain in EVERYONE'S neck and we had the misfortune of having to deal with them and their siblings - who weren't nearly as bad but still a handful - Every. Day. The principal was never that hard on them either, preferring to give them chance after chance just because the kid promised they'd shape up, only to turn around and act like they never said that.

I gave that kid plenty of redos too near the beginning since they tried to behave, but it just went downhill after awhile. Sucks because when they aren't acting out, the kid isn't a complete asshole. Their upbringing is pretty bad, but with no proof as to what's going on behind closed doors we can't do squat and the rest of their family doesn't seem bothered by it. It really is a crappy situation, but that shouldn't excuse you from being a jerk 24/7, otherwise we'd all be jerks.

As far as better school endings go, my sister graduated from high school! And unlike her big bro, she actually has an idea of what she wants to do post high school: early childhood education. So something like a kindergarten teacher. College might be tough to pay for but given that she needed special ed help, she might be able to get more help and what not. Hopefully. If not she can join the workforce at least part time to help pay.

Then a couple of weeks ago, my friends and I went to the music festival Pain in the Grass. I'm not gonna lie, the main reason I wanted to go was to see Babymetal. The whole thing was pretty great though. It started off okay but as the day went on, each band was getting better so when the final act, Korn, came on stage, we were all pretty excited.

Lastly, I started looking for a new job. Current job has served me well enough, but it's time for a big change. One that will hopefully *pay* big change. Or just more in general. Of everything I've applied for, only FedEx has actually called back for an interview but currently the interviewer is out for today so I'll have to call back on Wednesday. Fingers crossed!

      ----- -----

AND THEN WE HAVE THE VG BACKLOG OF 2017!

... It's actually not going too hot. I had to cover for one of my coworkers quite a bit this year (yet the guy couldn't even cover for me the one time I needed it for my sister's graduation >:/ ), so my usual game time in the mornings got cut down. On top of that I've been playing too much Fire Emblem Heroes, so I really haven't played too much on my 3DS or Vita.

I do have the Switch though. Just Zelda and Arms. Both games are so much fun!

So, uh, how about the ANIME OF 2017!?!

      - Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid

      - Kemono Friends (episode 4)

      - KonoSuba

      - Little Witch Academia (episode 5)

      - My Hero Academia

      - Toonami stuff

Okay, so I haven't watched much either, but I got quite the backlog for shows. I just need to stop playing Persona 5, Zelda, and Arms long enough to watch more.

    • Persona 5!

      solblade44

... Is not crammed into my PS4 yet. I pre-ordered the Take Your Heart edition so long ago that it was from all the way before we moved, so when they shipped it, the package went to my old house. I was a big dumb-dumb and forgot to change the address :/

In a previous case regarding the Fire Emblem Awakening art book back in the fall, I couldn't just change the address because you'd have to cancel the first pre-order and then re-order it with a new address. Seems like a dumb, roundabout way to do things, especially in situations like this one where the premium edition has been sold out for awhile so you can't just re-order it.

So when my mom, who's name is on the order since we used her Amazon Prime account, called Amazon to resolve the situation, we naturally ran into other problems since the order had already gone out.

The representative told us what happened to the order - we all understood that and were on the same page. He told us that we could change the address and we gave him our current one. After putting us on hold for a little bit, the Amazon guy said that our current address was more than one mile away than the previous one, so he put a stop-order on P5 and would give me a refund.

This is where the communication sort of broke down: we did say before we were put on hold that if we absolutely could not get our order shipped somewhere, we would accept a refund. However, the rep didn't give us the opportunity to try a different address, he just went ahead and stopped the order without checking with us if we could suggest another address. But we did have a second address - that of my friend Nathaniel, who lives down the street of our old house - and we had even told the rep that when he came back on the phone. Despite that, the rep had already put in the stop order and nothing could be done since changing an order like this could only be done once.

So my mom and the Amazon guy have a little back and forth until my mom asks to talk to a supervisor. The supervisor, having gotten the notes from the representative, walked us through what had gone down. The rep had conveniently left out details like how we didn't get a chance to use another address, that we *had* given him one, or that we didn't give our consent to the stop-order after exhausting all our options.

Having heard all this, the supervisor told us that he'd have to make a bunch of calls really quick to see if he could rescind the stop-order and he'd call us back. Twenty minutes later, the supervisor told us his hands were tied and he couldn't rescind the stop-order since changes made to orders like this could only be made once...

BUT he had a workaround: he would refund me what I paid for P5 AND give me enough extra Amazon credit to pay for the Take Your Heart edition since the price had skyrocketed thanks to scalpers so I could buy it at the lowest possible price. Bro supervisor went above and beyond as well by actually going back and listening to the call with the representative and said that yes, the rep had not gone through all of the possible options with us before doing the stop-order. Finally, the supervisor had said that he really wanted me to have this game so he did all of this for me. WOO HOO!

tl;dr: Through a lot of heartache, I got the Persona 5: Take Your Heart edition for free!

But there's also a very important lesson to this story: make sure all of your orders have the correct address BEFORE they ship. I may have gotten cool, free stuff, but I could've also had the game already and avoided the situation.

      BREAKDOWN! BREAKDOWN!

I am waaaaay behind on what should be "breaking news", but truth is I've been too lazy to do a write up.

Three weeks ago, while attending a session of DnD, a freak snow storm hit Washington. I had heard about the incoming snow beforehand and figured not much would come of it. We were supposed to have a "massive windstorm" back in October but hardly anything came of it. Then 5 pm bits during our break between campaigns and we have several inches of snow, schools and workplaces are announcing closures, and alerts are going off.

The boss wanted to keep school open the next day, but the mass closures, bad road conditions, the fact that most of the staff and families commute from pretty far away, and the school down the street was part of the closures, changed her mind.

So we got to enjoy a surprise break for a few days and play in the snow. Now we don't need to see snow like this for several years.

      ----- -----

AND WE GOT THE VG BACKLOG OF 2016!!!!

It doesn't feel as impressive as 2015, but considering what happened during the summer and the fact that '15 had a few short action games while last year had longer, more involved RPGs/open worlds or story rich games, it's still good.

... Just gotta stop adding to the list :p

    • Welcome to the Velvet Room (Actually a Christmas post)

      solblade44

One of my presents for Christmas this year was a new set of velvet blue bed sheets. It's so comfortable that it feels like I'm floating. I don't know if I'd be able to go back to anything else!

As for other gifts, I got some new clothes, a couple of backpacks, a card game called Punderdome, some money, Pokemon Sun, and a White Mario New 3DS. That last one was a huge shock because it was one of those $100 ones released on Black Friday and I hadn't seen any of them, for obvious reasons. My brother got the black one. My sister could have gotten one too if they weren't limited to one per person.

However, the Flores family won't be getting together next year. A good chunk of them will be in Hawaii and no one on the other half wants to deal with the responsibility of planning it, especially since my grandma isn't around any more. It's kind of sad. At least I still have the rest of my large family to hang out with.

And hey, I actually got to give out quite a few gifts compared to previous years. Not sure what to get my DnD group though.

    • Three Wisdom Teeth Pulled Out

      solblade44

Last year I had one of my wisdom teeth pulled out. This year I had the other three pulled out because my dad had more money to spend for our dental insurance than usual and needed to spend it before the end of the year, so we yanked out them out.

Everyone was worried me since it's supposed to be super painful after the fact. I was feeling pretty confident about it since the top one removed last year hardly hurt and I even went to work right after. Admittedly the bottom two teeth hurt a bit more than expected, but I got plenty of meds for all times of the day and the pain is still bearable. Certainly don't feel like I'm dying

    • Break Time

      solblade44

My Christmas break finally started! I normally wouldn't be this relieved, but one of my co-workers has had a lot of things going on for him and I've been filling in for them. At first I figured the month would be short enough that he wouldn't be out at all...

Then the 7th rolled around and I'm called in at the last minute. After coming in that day I find out he's going to be out of town on the 14th and 15th, so I say I can fill in for him those days. Gotta get that extra money and working with Preschool kids for two and a half hours isn't hard. But it doesn't end there: two more days rolled around where I subbed for him.

Now, my problem isn't that my next paycheck just got a big boost or that 3 of these 5 sub days had him unexpectedly out of the picture. I don't even mind doing this, as long as we don't get another day where I'm called in 30 minutes before the shift (I live 45 min away from work as long as traffic is fine). No, it's just for the 4 months we've been in session, all the times I've covered for him have totalled up to one of those months AND he keeps getting allowed to bail out while almost everyone else has to come in despite any issues they may have. The number of times I've been in there have also thrown off the kids enough that we're pretty much the same guy now. Apparently just having glasses makes everyone the same to 3-5 year olds. Hahaha, kids :)

The irony to all this? He was complaining last year that he wants to work more hours -_-

      ----- -----

Outside of work, we finally managed to get 99% of our crap out of my aunt's basement and into our house. We got some of the stuff we needed... and a lot of the stuff we didn't. My dad just wanted it out of there, but now the garage is even more cluttered.

More added amusement: my dad didn't want to have another junk garage after we let the last one become a dump. At least we have an organized mess and more furniture.

Yeah, I saw it when I was at worked today. I honestly didn't think we'd get this far, but here we are. Hopefully things will get crazy at tomorrow's Salty Cupcakes and we get in a ton of money.

Just wondering, but did you get that Valentine painting yet?

Nope. Guy must have tons of snow still, despite it being weeks ago and all of the snow melted.

But hey, maybe it's mafia snow?

Nope. I'm guessing you didn't either?

Here's an article you might find interesting.

It's about Skullgirls and breaking down the costs for the people who seem to be blown away by the cost of one DLC character for a downloadable title.

Yeah, I read it after class earlier today since Peter posted it on the Skullgirls Facebook page. As he said on there: "And I meant every word of it."

So I know it's suppose to be played straight, but I can't help and laugh at seeing Baby K in his little armor holding a stuffed rabbit.

I found it really adorable. That part of the story was what made me feel bad about laughing at the kiddie ride thing. He was a really sheltered child.

Also, my reaction to his ending: .... what?

Just wondering. It's a 2d fighting game with a cast that mainly consists of females. Some of the chars seemed like ones you'd like.

It could have been better... a lot better. Most of the movie is spent hiding in a penthouse. The second the movie became good, it ended.

      No. Why is it good?

About the english adaption or about R+V in general?

    • Richardsan

I know just about as much as you know about R+V.

I think the fact that I only had to do 4 hours of community service is hilarious compared to other schools.

      Have to do a speech that can last minimum 10 minutes, make a power point, write a reflection paper, turn in a paper stating I did 20 hours of community service, and there was one last thing, but I don't remember what it was.................so yeah. -_-;;
