Well, I finally did it, canceled my XBox live gold account, after months of no online multiplayer, if I need to I can just upgrade through the dashboard. Although I did find it funny that the customer rep acted like he was doing me a favor by refunding all of my money. For those that don't know, according to Microsoft's company policy, if you cancel your yearly subscription within 60 days of purchase you will be refunded the entire amount.

I am considering changing my major, or transferring to another university. Since last year I've been having so many problems with the department of civil engineering that its just not worth it anymore, I had a professor last semester that showed up one day, the day of the final, the other days were taught by the TA, which is total bullshit, why should I pay for a professor if I'm just getting a TA. On top of that the administrative side is so unorganized they lose our papers all the time. We have a saying about the department, "if they haven't screwed you over, then its your first semester here."

Screw it, I might just take the job with the city and go to community college at night to get a drafting associates.

I know I've said this before, but I'm back, and I'll stick around for more than a week this time... probably. I've been incredibly busy lately, I don't know if you guys (oh who am I kidding, its probably just Bufford now.) remember but I was helping out with a con last year and this year I'm in charge of the video programming so I have to get in touch with the various publishers and get their permission to show their programs, I'm also helping with the gaming room and other general convention stuff. I essentially now have a full time job that pays nothing, on top of my other, paying, full time job.

My sister bought an HDTV last month, and a PS3. At this point I'm convinced that anyone who says they can see a difference between DVD's and Blu-Ray is just trying to justify their purchase. Besides, I honestly don't think the benefit of high-def outweighs the cost, I mean you have to buy an HDTV, then you have to buy a high def player, the movies are more expensive, plus you need to pay extra to get channels in HD. Now when Ultra-Definition comes out, you'll see me jumping on the HD bandwagon.

I've always had problems with titles, my academic life is riddled with composition papers entitled "(insert subject here) composition paper." Honestly, I don't even remember how many journals I've typed out here and ended up not posting because I couldn't come up with a title for it (good old error 199).
Anyway, who would have thought Halo 3 would bring me out of my gaming funk, I finished it the Thursday after it came out, by contrast Xenosaga 3 is still there, along with a stack of other games.
Speaking of which, I got home on Tuesday after picking up Halo, it was probably like 4 or 5 p.m. (I didn't go to the midnight launch) popped the disc in and was met with four flashing red rings, man if I didn't know what that meant I would have freaked the fuck out.

Awesome Video, its a fandub of Evangelion, its kind of old (the original was released in 2000), its about half an hour long so if you have nothing better to do watch it.

Or recite these quotes and earn instant nerd cred, which we all know is infinitely better than street cred:
"Damn those sorority girls and their no sausage parties, I'll show them."
"You want to do what? With my what?... Ok!"
"Shinji, Turn around, see that? That is a babe magnet."
"I have two breastesses, not one, but two."
"Bob Dole doesn't have to take this kind of crap, Bob Dole's a cyborg"
"Yes, plenty of womens, sure they'll do whatever you want... Well, maybe not that."
"I don't know! I'm going to suck the life out of you!"
"Kids don't make me smack you like a red-headed step child, oh... Sorry Asuka" (Asuka is red headed, and she's a stepchild)

Right, anyway, my digitizer crapped out yesterday, so I have to either try to get it fixed, pony up 2,000 for a new one, or see if a wacom tablet is compatible. Either way I'm screwed, well at least my tuition won't be that much this semester. My university canceled almost all of my engineering classes, they didn't have enough professors to cover the sections they had opened for registration last semester, so I'm just taking a couple of classes.

I make the worst choices when it comes to deciding how much memory to get, I bought the 30 gig iPod because I thought there was no way I could fill it up, I was wrong, I bought a 100 gig external drive because I though it would be enough to keep my laptop's hard drive relatively clean, once again wrong, and more recently I put in a 400 gig hard drive in my computer. I've had it less than a month and I'm already approaching the 300 gig mark. Well Iat least I have a spindle of 100 blank DVD's So I'll probably use those to archive the stuff I hardly use.

I just introduced my friend to 4chan, god I hope he goes into /d/, I just told him to avoid a doujin called "Mai Chan's Daily Life" and sent him on his merry way. 5 bucks says he's called a fag by the entirety of /b/ before midnight (its 11:50 my time). Anyway, now that I have an actual desktop instead of a crappy laptop, I can play the RTS games I love so much, I've been playing StarCraft, Age of Empires 3, Rise of Nations (the original, Legends and the Thrones & Patriots expansion).

How many of you guys play World of Warcraft? I played a little back when the trial DVD's first came out but I didn't really like it so I just stopped but recently a friend gave me another trial DVD and I figured I might as well see if its gotten any better (people are willing to piss into jugs for this game, it must be good right?) any of you guys play? and if so on what servers?

School starts on the 27th, and its looking like my university screwed me over for this semester, but more on that later, when I know for sure. Well I should go to sleep. I have to go to work in six hours.

Journal Notes (How much of a nerd am I? I actually have to provide journal notes so my normal e-friends know what the hell I'm talking about.)
/d/ is the alternative board of 4chan (seriously, I hope he goes in there, epic lulz will follow)
      /b/ is the random board
"Mai Chan's Daily Life" is... there are unholy things in that book, things no man should ever see or even think about and contrary to popular belief its not aww-righttt

    • New Specs

      spartan335

I promised to post the new specs of my computer and here they are:
I used a Nemesis Elite Case, AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600 processor, LG Dual Layer DVD Burner, 400 GB Hitachi Hard Drive, Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 Motherboard, 1 gig Corsair RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce 7100 Video Card. The motherboard comes with On-Board 7.1 HD audio so I didn't get a sound card. And I bought a 22" Samsung monitor.

I might not even have to overclock my processor, while testing it on Friday I eventually got to a point where I was simultaneously running Auto CAD, Firefox, Word, Flashget, Frets on Fire, Age of Empires 3, an anti-virus scan, watching some videos and burning a DVD and the processor load still didn't go past 85%. (I don't normally run two games at the same time, but I was testing out the processor). I will have to upgrade my RAM though.

I just got back from watching The Bourne Supremacy, someone needs to get that director a steady cam, seriously.

    • Finally

      spartan335

I got the parts for my computer this Tuesday and I just finished building it today, I'm testing it out right now, so far it looks good, I've been downloading stuff, installing programs, and watching high def videos and the processor load hasn't gone past 45% and I haven't even overclocked it yet. I took my sweet time building it, made the cables all nice and presentable looking (the case has a see through window so I couldn't exactly leave a mess in there and I'm sure there will be better airflow through the case thanks to that) unfortunately I screwed up the wiring for the case's LCD display and the clock/calendar reset every time I turn off the computer, and the temperature sensors need to be re-calibrated every time too. I'm just gonna leave it like that, I think one screw up is acceptable, considering its the first computer I've built, plus I'm lazy.

I scrapped the specs from last journal, except for the ram and Windows Vista,. I'll post the new specs in a later journal, for now I have to see how many programs I can run at the same time before seeing any significant lag. And I have to take care of my watchlist as well.

Yeah, my laptop has definitely crapped out on me now, it still works (somewhat, I'm on it now) but not as good as it did yesterday. So I'm gonna build me a new computer, I just went online to check out the prices and I can build it just like I want it for about $750.

      Specs:
Optical Drive: Lite-On IT Super AllWrite (It writes anything and everything I could ever need)
Hard Drive: 500 GB Samsung, 3.0 Gb/s transfer speed.
      Ram: 1 Gb Corsair SDRAM
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86 Ghz (according to different message boards I frequent, I can overclock it to 3 Ghz)
Mobo: Biostar I945P, and it came with a GeForce 7600 video card which is frankly more than I need.
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium, I really wanted XP but newegg doesn't carry the XP System Builders OEM anymore so it was either Vista OEM, or shell out 250 for XP.
Case: Antec Nine Hundred, this thing comes with four fans, which means I don't have to install a liquid cooling system.
I still haven't decided on what Sound Card to get, If I even get a sound card, I might just go with on-board audio, and I might add another Gb of Ram.

No, I wasn't caught cleaning the pipes Finch, you sick freak.
Anyway, I used to keep my door open all the time but then my parents started taking care of my nephew and he liked hanging out in my room for some reason. And my room is filled with expensive stuff, 1 laptop, 2 desktops, 5 different gaming systems, not to mention all my games, movies, cds, books, and random figures. Then I got home one day and found my 360, xbox, ps2, and one of the computers on and I started closing the door when I left for work/school/whatever.
But I digress, I got home from work today and my aunt started bitching me out, apparently my little cousins got into my room, and into my anime collection, and were watching Higurashi (the title for the region 1 release is "When They Cry") its not porn or anything, but it is bloody. Its a cool show, a blend of mystery and horror, and its rated 16+ for extreme violence and strong language. The weird thing is that I keep Azumanga Daioh and Kaleido Star right next to Higurashi and both of those shows are rated PG. So yeah, I obviously keep my door closed for a reason.

When did I stop being a gamer?
My 360 has been relegated to the lowly job of charging my i-pod, (if you see me online and I don't answer I'm not ignoring you, I just don't know you're calling) I should cancel my xbox live gold, its just collecting dust. Not to mention the numerous unopened games I have just sitting there.

If I'm not at work, I'm at school, and if I'm not there I'm trying to pick up women (with varying degrees of success).
I'm gonna try to get some Digaea 2 play in before I fall asleep.

The grade tolerance in a subdivision is half a foot, commercial lots only have one tenth, this particular jobsite is actually being made for apartments, not houses, and the grade was supposed to be .1 ft. below the curb (its now .33 ft above), so that when the bulding pad was poured it would be .23 ft. above the curb (as opposed to the .66 they would be if we poured them now). The pads are pretty close to the curb already so anything more than the .23 that was proposed and the ramps they need to put in wouldn't be ADA compliant. But that's not even the biggest problem, the job site is surrounded by existing streets and according to the drainage plan approved by the city (it was designed by the same engineering firm who screwed up the elevations BTW) the streets inside the job site are .2 feet above the surrounding streets, they're now .2 feet below, which means that whenever it rains there will be minor flooding.
Which isn't even that big a problem, but would you honestly live in an apartment where you would have to deal with 2.4 inches of water everytime it rained?

I think that what they're gonna end up doing is demolish the curb and charge the engineering firm that screwed up for it. Today my dad asked me to find out how much it would cost to demolish, dispose and replace the existing curb. The funny thing is, that the engineer who screwed up is the owner of the firm so he can't exactly blame any of his underlings, although I'm sure he'll find a way.

Gotta love the ADA, and their slope requirements. . . . Although their specs allow for a pretty good variance. I have the ADA code somewhere on my computer, but I'm not sure wheretongue.png; what is the runnout distance on the ramp? I find it hard to believe you can't absorb 2-3/4". Is your dad the owner of the engineering firm you work for??

    • FRUNTCASTER

I know how you feel, they hired an outside engineering firm to put down curb elevations at work and they (the supposedly professional engineers) used the wrong benchmark elevation. So all the elevations they put down for the curb are .43 feet below what they're supposed to be, which doesn't sound like much until you multiply it by the 2 acres that make up the job site, now we have to either export all the extra .43 feet of dirt, or demolish the 1000 feet of curb we had already poured.

Sounds like the standard crap. . . . But as the engineers, you guys get to flow the poo down to the workers (Which makes me want to be an engineer).wink.png It could have been worse, they could have been 4.43 feet off. . . . 5-3/16" is doable in the grand scheme me thinks. What's the tolerance on grade? I'd think that 5" spread over 2 acres could be worked with. Split the difference, and have them pour an extra 2 inches of asphalt.tongue.png Elevations are always a sore subject--I had some concrete dude miss a grid line for my structural columns, and his elevations were screwed. . . . Guess who had to modify his columns to match the mistake? . . . That's right. . . . Me, bottom of the poo-pile-guy.
